Hyper-V vEtherNet taking IP from DHCP

I am finding strange behavior of Hyperv 2012R2 host vEthernet. We have created VM network where multiple VLAN's are tagged for different projects. Now when I create those VM network it also create vEthernet. All these VLAN's are DHCP enabled so that VM's
does PXE boot and connect to Citrix provisioning server.
But now I am seeing all the host which has vEthernet created also go and grab IP from this VLAN. This VLAN's IP are decided based on number of VM which will created. Say I have 10 VLAN's and 10 host
I will vouch 10*10=100 IP's which is not fair .
Is it the known behavior or we can control this ?

If you have the checkbox set to "allow operating system to share.." causes a vNIC to be created on the hypervisor and attached to that virtual network.
Considering that these are PXE streaming networks for PVS - I would ask: why is this necessary?   (because not doing this would solve your problem)
Also, default windows behavior is that when there is a new NIC, it is set to DHCP by default - Windows has behaved this way since I first began in IT with NT 3.51

  • Migrating from DHCP 2003 to DHCP 2012

    Hi,
i'm planning to migrate from DHCP 2003 to DHCP 2012 or DHCP 2012 R2 failover.
    Saw those instructions:
    extract the configuration in .TXT
netsh dhcp server export c:\temp\dhcp.txt all
copy this file on your server 2012 in temp or elsewhere
import the configuration with this command
netsh dhcp server import c:\temp\dhcp.txt all
if you have the error "TLS supported but not configured"
remove all the option in "Server Option" like 003 Router 006 DNS SERVERS and put it back after doing the import
    now i have some questions:
    1. is it recommended to build 2 2012 DHCP configured as failover on virtual machines ? (hyper-V)
    2. do those dhcp servers have to or recommended to be DNS also or can they be only DHCP servers ?
    3. my AD functionality level is 2003 - is it a problem for this migration ?
    4. virtual or physical ? whats is recommended ?
    5. any other considerations ?
    TNX

    Hi,
Virtual or physical will both work. It doesn't matter, as long as the two servers can communicate with each other.
You do not need DNS installed on the same server, but you can install it without hurting anything.
I believe that the AD level has no effect because you can have DHCP failover even on workgroup computers.

  • Guest OS not getting IP adderss from DHCP

We have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper V role installed on IBM x3650 M4 server. We have connected 2 LAN. When we create External Virtual Network & binds one physical adapter in Virtual Network manager, We loose the ping response from Local
network for that physical adaptor. Even if we create new VM (Guest OS) & we are not getting any IP from DHCP to that VM. Kindly help to resolve it.

"Please reply fast we have to set up the server as soon as possible."
This is not a support hot-line.  TechNet forums are volunteer driven, meaning that when a person has a few minutes of time, they will look to see if they can help someone.
"We loose the ping response from Local network for that physical adaptor"
That is expected.  In fact, when you select a physical NIC in Hyper-V to make it into a virtual switch, you are presented with a warning stating that might happen.  What happens when a physical NIC is assigned to a virtual switch is that all the
existing networking protocols that were associated with that NIC are removed and the Microsoft Virtual Switch protocol is bound to the NIC.  That is the only protocol than can be on that NIC if you wish to use it as a virtual switch.  If you want
the Host to continue using that NIC you need to select the option to share the connection with the host.
"Even if we create new VM (Guest OS) & we are not getting any IP from DHCP to that VM."
Are you using VLANs?  What is the network environment?  Subnets, etc.

  • Establish IP from DHCP but no Internet or Extremely Slow

Synopsis: Net Macmin, New Ethernet Cat 6 cable (approx. 90 ft), DSL Comtrend Router.  IP Connects, slow to no internet.
Added a 90' cable and ends across store basement from front PC to router in rear of business.  Standard non-crossover Cat 6 cable properly crimped.  Get IP Address from DHCP on front MacMini but internet is extremely slow.  I re-ran the cable away from parallel to power conduit, still extremely slow.  The light on the port which this cable is plugged in flashes at high rate with no pause, unlike three other connected to router.
Front MacMini works fine over wifi, but retail software recommended ethernet connection to ensure reliability should interference occur over wifi.  When I'm testing the Ethernet I do shut off the wifi and have, since started testing, changed the service order so wifi is second chosen to ensure tesitng with ethernet is accurate when wifi is on.
When you try to load a webpage (I used google) through safari it loads 25% of the load bar and stops until it times out a few second later.  Used network utility to verify connection to goolge, it took a few seconds longer than wifi but was able to ping google.  I don't own a ethernet tester and would rather not buy one for one project.
Based on the ability to connect with IP address tells me the cable is able to talk back and forth with the router, correct?  I've read a lot about ethernet port issues, how common is this, what else could be causing the problem?
Internet Source: MyFairPoint DSL for Business
Network Hardware: Comtrend AR-5381u DSL Router
Other Hardware on Router: Second MacMini, Dell Tower, Color HP LaserJet
Thank you to whomever can help and everyone that lends feedback!

My plan is to bring my MBP to the shop later this week to test this out.  I wanted to put this out there to see if any other troubleshooting ideas were brought up.  Thanks for the input!

I tried to track issue with microsoft network monitor I'm attaching the capture file also please help me to sort out this issue
    capture report https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=AFE3D0245A92F6F8%21183

The issue is that your machine is not being assigned an IP address / was unable to reach the DHCP server to receive one. The 169.254.x.x IP your machine is showing isn't assigned from DHCP, it's assigned by the local machine and is referred to as an APIPA
    address.
So something is preventing your machine from reaching your DHCP server, which could one of a number of things. In the first instance I'd suggest having a look at
http://epan36.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/eventid-1001-dhcp-your-computer-was-not.html which lists several of things that could cause this error and things you can try in order to resolve it.
If none of those work, can you confirm whether you have any other machines connecting via the same method on the network, which might indicate whether this is an issue at the machine end or somewhere between the machine and DHCP server?

  • AP gets always a new IP address from DHCP server

    Hello,
When an access points doesn't find a controller it gets always a new IP address from DHCP server.
    Does anyone know, why?
    thanks

    Hi,
From what I know this is to do with DHCP option 60 and 43.Normally when APs request for IP address, DHCP Server also returns the management IP Address of WLC if the VCI matches.
If the VCI sent by the AP does not match with the one configured under DHCP for that particulart AP type, the DHCP will never return the WLC IP and hence AP can not find the controller. And the AP keeps sending DHCP Req and sometimes end up getting two IP addresses!
So may be you can check VCI on DHCP server for that AP model.
    Let me know.
    Cheers

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here.
You've checked the purchase history on your account (Store > View My Account menu option on your computer's iTunes), and have you made any in-app purchases or have any auto-renewing subscriptions ?  If not then you can contact iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Apple taking money from my card?

So I made a new apple acount to start fresh and connected my debit card to my account.
I bought this 1 song called "Say Something" and succesfully it purchased. However I bought a free app, so i dont think that it counts but when I logged in my bank acount online my balance got decreased from what I remember after buying the song.
I checked my previous transactions and it says that apple has taken away $.69 from my account?! Its not that big of an ammount, but im afraid that it will conitnue!
I really want my money back because its frustrating to see that I hadnt purchased anything worth for cash except that one song, and apple is getting money from my account? Thats quite unfair and in the form of stealing money from me already.
I really wish apple would give me back my money, its given me a bad image on them now. Why is it taking money from my account when I only have purchased 1 song.

You dont understand, the moment i purchased the song, it already got punched in my credit card account when I checked my transactions online. However, just yesterday during feb 20(i live in PH so i am 1 day ahead it is feb 21 right now) itunes cut off 30PHP from my account.
I dont understand, why is it taking money from me?
    Heres proof
as you can see this is in PHP since i live in the philippines but please do something about this. The first 2 transactions from the bottom is when I BOUGHT SAY SOMETHING AND IMMEDIATELY GOT ADDED TO MY TRANSACTIONS
however, what is this **** 30 php thats being deducted from my account during feb 20? could you please provide an explanation as to why im getting my money taken away from me when I never even bought anything from the store aside from 2 free apps and 1 song when I checked my purchased history? where did this 30php come from?!

  • Unable to get IP address from DHCP

    hi all,
I have a AP1131 which cannot get IP from DHCP server. I have tried to configure static IP address and controller IP by lwapp command and the AP can successfully joined the controller. However, after I changed it to DHCP in WLC, it cannot get IP address and all lwapp config is gone. It cannot join the controller anymore only after I reset it and configure a static IP for it. The following error message appears after I changed it to DHCP in the WLC:

Any expert has some idea on it?
    Thanks.

Is that AP on the same subnet as the other AP's? The thing is, when you configure the AP with static information, you say the AP is able to join the WLC. This means that there is no issue with the AP. Now when you set the AP to use DHCP and not static, the AP does not obtain a DHCP address? Is that correct? If you have more than one AP on the same switch and on the same vlan, and only one has an issue, then maybe reset that AP to default and see if that fixes it. I'm also assuming that the vlan is being forwarded and you have enough dhcp address in the scope.

some times after 10 minutes, it get the IP address, but all the machines (PCs) connected to the same switch (SRW208P) hange.
Note: the PCs an IP Phones are connected with separate UTP cables to the access switch.
Is there any suggestions to solve this issue, please.

  • HT4098 i have turned off auto-renewal for magazine. it's also confirmed in my apple id account setting, but itunes keep taking money from me each month. ***?

i have turned off auto-renewal for magazine. it's also confirmed in my apple id account setting, but itunes keep taking money from me each month. ***? can someone clear me out? i've spending money for nothing!

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • HT2518 migration is taking forever from windows 7 via wireless. can i stop it and connect wired?

File migration is taking forever from Windows 7 pc. Can I stop and reconnect using usb 2.0?

Your only option in that respect would be to create an adhoc Wi-Fi network with the Windows 7 device. And no, you could not connect the iOS devices via cable to connect them to that network. You can share the iOS device cellular internet capability with a computer via Personal Hotspot, but the iOS devices do not have the capability to connect to a wired network or to a computer's internet via a cable.

  • [SOLVED] Help with going from dhcp to static ip

So right now I'm using dhcp on my arch box, but for personal reasons (file server, print server, etc...) I'd like to assign a static ip to the machine.
I've noticed that when I get a ip via dhcp, there are different broadcast ips, and frankly, I'm just getting confused. I was wondering if there was a way (probably) to setup a static ip from setting that are retrieved via dhcp.
I know that there's a wiki page as to how to set up a static ip, but there are still some things that I don't understand, so I'd like to know what information I'd need to get from dhcp in order to set up a static ip (essentially the same ip, but it would remain the same)
I will blatantly admit that networking is not one of my strong suites...

When you have a dhcp address, use ifconfig to identify the address, broadcast address, and subnet mask, and use route to identify your default gateway. All these should be added to the rc.conf NETWORKING section - an example is provided. Make a note of the nameserver address that was automatically added to /etc/resolv.conf under dhcp - it should remain there.
Before you do all that, you may have the option of using a dhcp fixed lease instead i.e. continue to use dhcp, but configure it to provide the same address to your arch box every time. That would depend on the capabilities of the system that provides the dhcp service.
