Hyperdraw - to replace Automation

Having entered the nightmare that is Logic automation and now being resigned to the fact that it is unworkable for certain jobs I am reverting back to Hyperdraw. ..... so oldskool it hurts.....
In tests with it - mostly the issue of moving data about it seems nice and solid.
What would be good is a list of contoller parameters for the pugins as they don't appear in the autodefine list as anything other than the device and a control number. I have found some in my manuel - evoc20 for instance but not every plug listed that way.
Does this list exsist anywhere?
Also can I midi / hyperdraw control the buss sends ?
any help appreciated.

still a bit baffled by how contol no's are assigned when multiple plugins share a channel strip. For instance i made the asumption that Formant shift on the EVOC 20 would always be control No. 90. However when the channel strip also had an EQ on it it showed up as control 26....... why dat?

Covert hyperdraw to Track automation

Hi
I've being trying to convert recorded C.C.(ajusting with synth settings as i play via bcr2000/nanokontrol) into track based automation,ie rba to tba.
I found that the command to convert visible region data works fine,but is tedious with lots of different controlers.So the convert all rba to tba seams the way to go except i can't get it to work.
I was wondering if this is a known bug or I am missing something.

Using hyperdraw for automation of Logic instruments

I'm pretty new to Logic and I have not figured one thing out even after browsing through these forums.
I like the drawing mode that hyperdraw offers for automation of synth parameters and such much more than the regular automation drawing.
Hyperdraw seems more like when drawing automation in Reason which I like very much.
If possible at all, how can I locate and draw automation for all the buttons and sliders on the Logic instruments (and VSTs also for that matter) in hyperdraw style?

Well, the Hyper Editor is really a MIDI editor, so you can create and edit MIDI data, including Control Change messages (like CC07 for volume or CC01 for modulation for example) - so it is like automation in that respect.
As far as I can see, using track automation is the best option because all the available parameters are there ready to automate as soon as you insert the plug in - perhaps I'm missing the point of what you want to do.

Standard report vis fail (error 1) after report toolkit loaded

Labview 6.1 report vis will not work (when dealing with standard report types) after loading the report generation toolkit 1.0.1. This is depite fixing the known issues found in the knowledge base. ie replace automation open with automation close in font style vi and recompiling the vis.
Running the text report example.vi included demonstrates the problem. Error 1 will be returned.
A sub vi in this called tables.vi appears to have 4 automation close vis two of which are inside for loops. I think these need to be outside of the loops? This then transfers the problem to the set font.vi which then returns error 1.

I have the same problem. I am using LabVIEW 6.1 and Microsoft Office 97. I have installed and reinstalled the Toolkit. Whenever I try to run ANY sample VI's that come with the toolkit (by going to "FIND EXAMPLES"), none of them run. The ERROR LIST says that none of the subVI's are found. Why are these subVI's not being found? I see that they are there. Is there a directory error? Both LabVIEW and the Toolkit were installed in their default directories. The Toolkit is in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 6.1\vi.lib\addons\_office

Logic 8- Midi issues-Please help an amateur!

I have trawled the Logic 8 manual but my head is melted reading it. Basically I have two queries. I’m a total amateur, as you will soon see from the questions I’m about to ask, with a project due so the pressure is on.
Can I put a fade in/fade out on a midi region? There are a number of different instruments playing simultaneously and I want them to all fade out together naturally enough. I think it’s something to do with Hyperdraw maybe or Automation?
Also, how can I put say a bit of reverb on one midi region? For example I have a lot of virtual piano on my music but in some sections I want to give it a different feel. Can I put the reverb on just one segment without having to apply it the whole way through the region and if for example there are 4 or 5 instruments playing together can you put reverb just on one instrument? I probably need a crash course in mixing but help greatly appreciated.

The first thing to realise, is MIDI is not sound. MIDI is just a series of instructions "Ok, play me a C3 quite hard now", and it's the instrument itself that resonds to these instructions and makes a sound.
Can I put a fade in/fade out on a midi region?
Yes, if you want to do this via MIDI (ie, put in a MIDI instruction that says to the instrument "Ok, please reduce your volume", you need to use a MIDI Volume message.
The easiest is probably to select your region, enable Hyperdraw on Volume, and draw in your fade where you want it.

Automation is a way of automating the mixer. You so far haven't said what instrument is making your sound - a MIDI region could be playing back an external keyboard, or it could be playing back a software instrument inside Logic. If the former, you can't directly use automation. If the latter, you can, as the "sound" is already inside Logic.
Also, how can I put say a bit of reverb on one midi region?
Again, thinking about it logically - you can't put reverb on some instructions, that doesn't make sense. You have to put reverb, which is an audio process, on the instrument playing the notes. Assuming you are using a piano sound inside Logic, then you can insert a reverb plugin on that audio channel the sound is coming through.

Remember, we are adding reverb to the "instrument", not the region containing instructions. Yes, there are many ways to achieve what you want, but some of these would take a little time to explain and I'm not sure you'd follow me. (I don't mean to sound patronising, BTW!)
Typically, though this is not the only way, you'd put a reverb on a spare aux channel, and "feed" in the piano sound to this reverb. You can then automate this "feed" (called a bus send) so you can increase and decrease it throughout the song, to give you the desired increase or decrease in reverb.
Are you comfortable using Logic's mixer, inserting plugins, sending audio through busses etc?

Yes - again, if you have the reverb directly on the one instrument channel, the other instrument channels don't have it on, and so will have no reverb. Or using the bus send method above, you send only the piano to the reverb, and nothing else, so only the piano has reverb.

Yes, I really recommend getting some introductory MacProVideo.com Logic tutorials, or get a friend who knows Logic to walk you through some basics - it concerns me that you are working on a real project under pressure, and have very little knowledge of the basics. I mean, I admire you jumping in at the deep end, but it doesn't help if you drown on the first go...!

Using automator to edit text - find and replace

Now, I want to input the tips into a MySQL database with an insert statement like:

Are you familliar with regular expressions? If you are, then you can create a shell script and incorporate it into your workflow. Or you could use bbedit or textwrangler from barebones.com to search and replace in multiple files.

How to find and replace text in Excel with Automator

I am new to Automator. And I would like some help how I can create a service that will allow me to find and replace certain text in Excel. I noticed that there is an action to do this for Word documents, but not for Excel document.
Any suggestions how I can do this?

Easiest way to do it is the following:
- Open the PDF file in Acrobat.
- Go to Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Export Data.
- Save the form data as an XML file somewhere on your system.
- Open XML the file in a plain-text editor (I recommend Notepad++).
- Let's say you want to replace all the years in the dates from "2013" to "2014". Do a global Search&Replace of "2013-" to "2014-" (I added the dash just to make sure that only date fields are edited).
- Save the XML file (maybe under a new name).
- Go back to the PDF file, and now go to Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data.
- Select the edited XML file and import it.
- Done!

HT2488 Find/Replace text in document with automator: any suggestions?

I'm looking to replace a number of unique html tags for a number of documents: is there any way to do this without going through the documents one-by-one, tag-by-tag? I would imagine I might be able to do something with automator, but I'm open to any other suggestions. I have some knowledge of html, but that's about it.

So I take it this is something you do regularly, not something that needs to get done once? if it were a oneshot operation it would be simpler to use TextWrangler.

This will work if the indesign tags are unique and there is no complex syntax. It might fail if tags have overlapping names (e.g. "<bl>" and "<blue>") or if there's any irregular notation. If you need more sophisticated handling you'll have to use regular expressions. In that case, download and install the Satimage osax from this page, and use the following (similar) code:

Does iweb SEO tool from Rage replace the Google Analytics Automator?

Until now, I ran Google Analytics Automator on my website which is saved in a local folder on my hard drive, then republished the site so that my results (visits, page views, etc.) will show up in Google Analytics reports. I just bought the iweb SEO Tool so that I can add keywords so my site will get better traffic. It asks for Googles UA number. Does this mean that the iWeb SEO Tool replaces the Automator tool I previously used so that I don't need to use the Automator tool each time I make a change and republish my site? If I do both, what happens?

Is there an automated way to replace a query with another in a workbook?

Hi all,
I have a bunch of Queries which I'm planning to phase out, and I have replacement Queries for them. The Queries to be phased out are used in Workbooks. Is there an automated way to replace these obsolete Queries with new Queries in these workbooks? Maybe a BAPI, function module, VB Macro, Tcode (so that a BDC program can be written) or some other way?

Replace text on files using automator

Hi
On an older (recently replaced Mac 10.4 etc) I used to be able to use Applescript to change the name of files within a folder very easily.
Is there an easy way to do the same using Automator?
This is used a lot during a normal day and would be very helpful. I haven't used Automator much, work keeps getting in the way!!

Your Applescript should still work, although it might need some modification.

How do I make an Automator script that will take a folder of text files and do a find & replace on each document?
These are txt files, relatively short, with one or 2 strings that I want to replace with other strings. Like to make this so it will do it for each txt file in a folder.

HI, according to this page, which looks as though it's a straight lift from the Microsoft help pages:
"You can't type merge field characters («« »») manually or use the Symbol command on the Insert menu. You must use mail merge."

Replace Text script returns error when dropped in automator

Hi Friends,
I have a series of pdfs that were saved with spaces in their file names. I need to put them into folders for a website (there's a lot). Pretty newbie on this too but I figured I'd try.
I tried using the example script "Replace Text in Item names" which worked on it's own.
(hd:applications:applescript:example scripts:finder scripts)
When I applied it as an action in Automator, I would get an error about "expected end but found on."
I think that resulted from the default script. So I deleted that. Put the replace script in.
I cut out the dialog boxes and specified folders, search, and replacement items. And cut out the second half (after the beep)
However as I step through, when I get to the script it returns the error: No result was returned from some part of this expression.
So I'm not sure what I'm missing.

It is hard to tell without seeing the mangled modified script. Your main problem is probably related to the run handler, which needs to be defined in Automator's Run AppleScript action. Every AppleScript has a run handler, but in the case of the Replace Text in Item Names it is implied (not explicitly defined). You will need to place the main statements of the script inside the Run AppleScript action on run handler, leaving the other handlers (for example, setitemname) outside of the run handler.

Batch automated replacement of RAW to JPEG in iPhoto

Hey.
I've been shooting with my camera for about a year and always did RAW just to have the option in the edit to make adjustments. Its time to trim back this monstrously large iPhoto library, so I was looking to find an automator to convert most of my RAW files to High JPEGs. With a few exceptions this is really fine for what I'm doing with the files. I have found a program that does exactly what I want, but only works with Aperture. See the link below:

Has anyone created something like this for iPhoto? I realize that I can batch export, than re-import, than track down ALL the raw files and delete them. This is time consuming and upon being re-imported I will have to once again divide up the photos into events, name the events, etc and the new converted JPEGS will be spread across an already large library of existing photos. Annoying to say the least.
I know I'm not the first to run into this problem, and I can find solutions for Aperture, Photoshop, and a few other but nothings for iPhoto.
Please send along any advice.

There isn't one, I'm afraid.
It's also difficult to see how it might work as the Original file in the Library is a Raw and you're trying to replace it with a jpeg. The Library won't recognise the jpeg as the original as it will have a different file name (the suffix).
So, one way or another, you're going to be doing this export/process/import/trash the original/ routine. You may be able to automate parts of it with Automator or Applescript.

Automator replace text, 1st occurrence only

using automator to rename audio files from a record date.
Not so much rename as name exchange.
The original files were wrongly named.
So what once was Audi L is now RF 3.
But there is also Mid Audi L that is also being changed.
Is there a way to limit the search to very specific text?

This will only replace text in a filename that starts with what you are searching for:
The Run Shell Script Action is:

In nname=${basename/#$2/$3}, the # is what determines that the search must start at the beginning of the filename
