Hyperion Business Rule Error: Cannot retrieve connected root element for

Hi,
I am trying to open a business rule in EAS and I am recieving the following error: Cannot retrieve connected root element for Planning/Servername/Application/Database.
I am able to connect to the application via Planning Web, but I am recieving this message when I am trying to open the business rule in eas.
hoping if someone has come across this issue before and has been able to successfully fix it.

I have 2 BRs, one is with RTP and another without RTP (basically a clacscript as BR).
I don't have any issue with the BR without RTP.
When I try to validate BR withRTP, validation is failing with
Unable to run or validate this rule (ConsolidateTestRTP) against the following location: Planning/servername/appname/dbname for user abcd.

With thought of may be the syntax of RTPs in BR changed, deleted RTP in the code but still BR has RTP (I mean BR has RTP and is not used in calculations), still getting error during validation. I can create new BRs and associate to outline.

I am using the admin user. Is there a possibility that the admin has no privilege for the business rule? (Which is unusual because it should have all the privileges).
Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue?

I think you have to give access even to the admin user to validate/run a business rule
try giving access to that rule and then validate

Hyperion Business Rules cannot connect to Hyperion Planning

I've deployed these applications into one machine server:
- Hyperion Essbase 7.1.3
- Hyperion Planning 4.0.1 (including Hyperion Business Rules)
- Essbase Administration Services 7.1.3
Everything runs well except that Hyperion Business Rules cannot connect to the Hyperion Planning as described in some error lines below:

Have you followed the golden rule, start RMI, EAS, Planning, Log into planning application through the web, Open EAS, create bus rule, select outline of the planning application you logged in.

Sharing information between Hyperion Business Rules

I am trying to share information between two Hyperion Business rules in EAS console.
Suppose for example , I calculated a value and stored in local variable in one Business Rule.
I would like to have this information in another business rule.
Any idea about the possiblities.?
I tried to use Global Variables in EAS but the Global variables are fixed and cannot be changed.

Can you make a HBR local variable the target of a value? Doesn't that local variable have to resolve to a member in an Essbase database sooner or later if it's going to receive a data value from a formula?
Or did you create a local variable as Real and then used that as the target? Maybe that would do it? (Obviously I've never done this.)
Could you create a temporary place in the database to stick it and then delete it?
Something like:
1) Local variable = some kind of formula/calc
2) No Account->No Product->No Scenario->whatever = Local Variable value. The point is an unused member that will let you set a value without overwriting permanent numbers. That shouldn't be too hard to find in a Planning app.
3) In HBR #2, go after that member combination and number from #2, stick it into a local variable, and set that location in #2 to #Missing.
Kind of painful, but it shouldn't really be that tough. You will need to make sure you create the block in #2.

I'm trying to install orgchart live.
When I run OrgChart - I got following error: "Cannot find the root of your orgchart...."
Well settings are following:
a) data connection: ASHOST=xxxxxxxxxxxx SYSNR=xx USER=xxxx PASSWD=xxxxxx CLIENT=xxx (this is OK)
b) General settings: 50000051 (for OrgChartRot - which is OK)
If i check CDS log I got following:

Business Rules error-java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/hyperion/hbr/core/

Hey I recently applied the 11.1.1.3.04 service fix for calc mgr/planning which involved a few file changes for EAS as well.
I patched and re-deployed calc mgr/planning/eas without any issues in DEV
When I patched prod, and then redeployed the web servers, business rules is now failing.
This error is in the planning log:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/hyperion/hbr/core/HBRThinServer
and this error is in EAS log when I login to EAS:
ExecuteThread: '5' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)' com.hyperion.hbr.db.DBTable - Error while creating Repository object. Please make sure your HBR Configuration is correct.

Anyone run into this issue and have any advice how to solve it? I also opened an issue with Oracle

Thanks for the advice Nick.
I decided to redeploy EAS app server again, but this time also re-register the database. the register database step was not needed when I patched dev or test, perhaps because in dev and test planning and eas were on the same server. In prod, eas and planning are on different servers.
so after registering and re-using the existing tables so that I wouldn't lose my rules, the app deployed without any errors in the logs and all my business rule problems have been resolved.

Yes it creates a connection and populates information into EAS/HBR db table (HBRPluginData), not sure if it is exactly the same with the command line launcher though I thought it may be.
Its always been a pain that you have to log into planning first before business rules work correctly through EAS, probably never get fixed now as the push is towards calc manager now.

Business rules error

Hi all
We are using 9.3.1 ,this is a freshh installation I am able to login in to business rules through EAS previously without creating any separate repository for business rules. Now I am getting error when I am trying to access HBR in EAS . The error is
Detail:Error creating DBConfig object. Please check if there are exceptions in the log file and if HBR is configured correctly.
and can any one tell me ..how to configure the HBR with parrticular database(we are using microsoft SQL database) and also I need info regarding where I will find HBR log.
I appreciate if any one help me with this .

Hi,
When you configured AAS using the hyperion config utility it will have created the SQL database tables which business rules uses, you must have done this already if you said you were able to login previously.
The hbrserver.log is in \hyperion\deployments\AnalyticAdministrationServices\server\bin
You can also try :-
\Hyperion\deployments\Tomcat5\aas\logs
You can change the level of logging from within EAS in the properties section
If you have configured AAS correctly then you should have hbrserver.properties in \Hyperion\AnalyticAdministrationServices\ which has the connection details for EAS to connect to the SQL repository for using business rules.
I have also seen in the past where if you are trying to use business rules with planning through EAS you first have to log into the planning web application.

Business Rules error when creating new classic planning application in 9.3.

Im trying to create a new planning application using classis planning application wizard in Workspace. everything seems alright untill i gets an error saying "Business rules cant connect to Planning"
other than this Business rules working fine and i can open business rules in other applications and i can access business rules repository in EAS.
Any thoughts on this ?

Further invesitgation bears this problem out.
Oracle support recommend wrapping the SimpleType in a ComplexType. This does work, but now I have an extra wrapper element to deal with. I either have to use the wrapped type in my other complex, composed Types and/or add an external wrapping element when trying to create Business Services in BPM to call the BusinessRules I've created.
This is a bit messy.
To be clear, this does not seem to be an issue with Business Rules; the BR editor and generation of Facts (including simple restricted types -> JAXB 2.0/Java Enumerations) seems to work correctly. There seems to be an issue exposing DFs as Services. The code which generated the WSDL and its supporting types seems to choke on restricted SimpleTypes.
As a side note, it seems that HumanTasks have a similar limitation

Check the composite for the schema DecisionPoint.xsd and make sure it has target namespace http://xmlns.oracle.com/rules/rules/decisionpoint. The schema is expeccted in the project xsd or businessCatalog folder. If the error persists, contact Oracle Support Services.

Business Rules Error when Decision Function surfaced as WebService in BPM

To use a BusinessRule as from a Business Rules activity,it needs to be surfaced as a WebService.
I've run into an issue where as soon as I check that box and save, the BusinessRule in question goes into a error mode when viewed from the BPM Project Manager (which is why this question is posted here).
The scenario is this:
My types are defiend in XSD. There is a SimpleType - FooStepTypeType - which is a retricted xs:string, the common way top create an enumeration. I import this as an XML fact, it creates a Enum bucketset, which is perfect. I create a decision function - DecisionFunction1 - which has an input parameter of this type and a boolean output. I set up a simple decision table to use the input and assert the output. The editor is happy.
At this point, I can't use the DF in my process, as it's not exposed a service, and won't be selectable via the the Properties/Implementation of a Business Rules activity.
A soon as I mark the DF as a WebService and save it, an the rule disappears from the Rules section of the Business Catalog and reappears at the root of the catalog in error. In some cases it can't be edited.
Hovering over the error file produced this error message:
The argument ‘step’ of decision function ‘DecisionFunction1’ could not build because of ‘BPM-71517: Unable to identify the parameter QName. Cause: ‘FooStepTypeType. Action: Make sure that the decision function parameter is of XML type and exactly one XML Schema Element exists that represents the parameter’.
My XSD previously did not contain a freestanding element of this type, but had elements defined in another complex type of this type. Adding a freestanding element didn't change anything. In fact it seems that elements are not avaialble to be imported as XMLFacts, only types.
At this point, if the Rules editor is still open, the DF can be "unserviced" and after saving may be recoverable with a JDev restart. If not, manually removing the DF from the .rules xml file can help recover the file so that it can be edited again.
SO: THE QUESTIONS.
Why can't I use a simpleType as an input parameter for a DF exposed as a WebService? What is BPM-71517 asking me to do exactly? I can't find any references to it via searching. Why does eveything seem fine until I expose it?
Addendum - using JDev 11.1.1.4.0 with BPM tools 11.1.1.4.0.5682
Addendum2 - upgraded to 11.1.1.5.0 and the problem is still there.....

Hyperion Business Rules and Essbase

I have an allocation business rule that uses the DATACOPY command to copy data from one cost center to another. I would now like to have the sum of 2 cost centers copied into the allocation cost center. In an Essbase calc script, I accomplished this by FIXing on some dimensions and then:
DATACOPY cc1 TO alloc_cc;
alloc_cc = alloc_cc + cc2
This works fine in a calc script, but the business rule does not like the "alloc_cc = alloc_cc + cc2" line. How do I accomplish this task in a business rule?
