Error invoking hyperion configuration wizard

Hi,
I am installating Hyperion System 9 including Planning. I have completed the installation of Shared Services and Essbase. After the installation of Planning, while invoking the hyperion configuration utility, to register Planning tool, I am getting the following error,
" could not determine central location: use "-enginehome" to set manually" .
Please let me know if anyone has faced this issue, and possible ways to resolve the same.

I did not set the class path manually, I only used the sapinst wizard.
How to check the class path and if the com.sap.aii.adapter.lib.zip is not installed, how to install it?

Hyperion Configuration Console (CMC ) doesn't show all of our agents

Hi All,
We have a Hyperion app. using 4 server. Every server runs different part of Hyperion components. According to the "WORKSPACE - Administrator’s Guide" the CMC console shows every agent which registered into Shared Services. But in our CMC window I just see the workspace's server agent.
I started the agents and UI on every server.
Could you help me how should the CMC works? If its require further configuration, how can I do it?

Can't start hyperion configuration utility (Shared services 9.3.1)

Hi,
After the install of shared services the dialog box to do the configuration does not appear.
i tried to configure that by starting manually the configuration tool from start menu-hyperion-foundation services-configuration tool and i have a message that indicates i need to create a java_home system variable (jre or jdk not found JAVA_HOME is not set).
After creating this system variable JAVA_HOME with the right string pointing to java i started again the configuration tool but notuhing appear.
Note: I uninstalled hyperion and i removed all the keys pointing to hyperion from the registry og windows and i tried again but usually the same problem is found.
I m using windows 2008 64 bits.

Hi,
Your problem is you are using windows 2008 and it is not yet supported, you will will need to use a supported OS otherwise you will encounter problems.

Can't launch Hyperion Configuration Tool

I am installing Hyperion Shared Services 9.2.1 in AIX 5.3
After SS installation, the installer asks about to launch the Configuration Utility to complete the installation, activation and configuration.
i am using Xterm in order to see a GUI for installation.
After installation, Configuratio Utility is not launched and normal AIX shell appears
I tried to start manually the configuration utility in HYPERION_HOME/common/config , using "configtool.sh" script but I got the following error:

I was looking the configtool.sh file and I could see that this is an error caused by the anormal termination of the script since sh execution can't find this:

It seems your installation was not completely successfull. I'd suggest rerunning the installation.
In the home dir of the user running the installation you should find a file named .hyperion.$YOURSERVERNAME (so in your case user admin's home should have a file named .hyperion.aton)
you can use
ls -al to list also the . files
Make sure the file exists in your home directory. It should have a content like mine:
HYPERION_HOME=/opt/essbase9/common
export HYPERION_HOME
In your case HYPERION_HOME should point to your hyperion home (/Hyperion/common i guess ???)
Anyway this should already be there, unless you installed the sw on a different account you are using now to configure...

Domain User Removed due this hyperion configurations went to failed.

In our hyperion application domain user deactivated (removed). due to this our both hyperion financial management (HFM) and Financial data quality management (FDQM) configurations went to Configurations faield and we getting error message while logging into FDQM saying that "Primary Load balance server is unavailable -- attempting to use backup Load balance server" After that again we reactivated the domain user now application is up and running.
Again I tried to re-config (after re-actived domin user)the both HFM & FDQM configurations unfortunatully I am getting faild status.
But still configuration was in red mode only (Configuration failed). we cann't keep this domain user id no longer (Becaues it is related one user is no more with the organisation).
We want to create the new domain user & we need to re-config the both HFM & FDQM configurations.
Could you please help me out how to do this.

But still I have some questions could you please clarify me.
1. The movement we removed domain user the FDM & HFM configuration went Configurations failed (RedMark) status (Configure FDM Server, Configure DCOM, Configure Application Server)
2. How we can bring back to Configured (Green Mark) status.
3. I hope if we create new domain user we need to re-config (Configure DCOM) but I am not sure about this.
4. In case failure the new domain does it impact the Application & Data?
Could you please help me out what needs to be done.
Note: What ever domain user we removed earlier, we re-activated the same and application is up & running, but configurations still in with Red Mark but the problem is we can't continue this domain id because it is linked with user id.

In general, I finally found out how to find technical content about ALL the former Hyperion BI tools on the Oracle Technology Network. It is a bit convoluted and definately NOT intuitive, so PLEASE DESSEMINATE THE FOLLOWING AS WIDELY AS YOU CAN:
1) Go to http://otn.oracle.com (Do NOT go to www.oracle.com or you will never find anything.)
2) On the left-side nav links, click on the "Middleware" link under "Products". (Do NOT click on the "BI & Data Warehousing" link, or once again, you will find nothing you are looking for.)
3) On the Fusion Middleware graphic that appears in the middle, click on the "Business Intelligence" object.
4) In the center list of BI products, click on the "Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition Plus" link under "Business Intelligence Foundation".
5) You will now see a list of ALL the products contained in OBI EE Plus, including all the Hyperion components. Click on the component of choice to view its specific product page.

Hyperion configure interface datasource problem

i installed hyperion 11.1.2.2 and installation finished succesfully.
I login to console http://ip:19000/workspace and i try to call "configure interface datasource" menu
i get error message.

I need some tips (if it is possible...)
1- I have a server with 2 quad-core processors. What should be the best value for MAX_CPU?
(the server works only for database, no other service is installed)
2- It has 5Gb of RAM.
My CACHE configuration is :
CAT_CACHE_SUPPLY int 48625
CACHE_SIZE int 388998 (3Gb)
Is this a good confioguration ?
4- In order to use 5Gb, I had to use a 64bit OS (Suse linux 10.3) and MAxdb 64Bits...Just for info...

two quad-core CPUs make up 8 cores.
If your server should do nothing else then MAXCPU=8 will enable 8 parallel threads for user tasks.
5 GB Ram is not very much for a database server.
What should the DB be used for?
CAT_CACHE_SUPPLY - don't do anything with this parameter. It won't really pay off. Why do you want to put 380 MB just for the DB catalog cache?
Any indication for that?
How many sessions/usertasks do the instance see at any given time?
Better: put as much mem to the CACHE as possible. 3 GB is nice - 4 will be better.

Sure you're using 64-Bit. It's not your playaround, laptop database is it? So if you're in serious, high volume database usage, you'll use 64-Bits nowadays
Anyhow, much more interesting than the Memory/CPU setup would be your storage layout.
Usually neither CPU or memory are the bottlenecks for DB systems - CPU is cheap today, RAM is cheap today.
Fast I/O on the other hand - not cheap, really not.
Whatever you have there, make sure to avoid using os-filesystem-buffering (USE_DIRECTIO=YES) and to set SIMULATE_VECTORIO=NEVER.
Also: no REDOs on RAID-5 and make sure to have multiple data volumes of the same size.

DIR should be create has master data records and only change exploradicatly. Within the Installations you might have to change from a DIR confirguration to another.

By Idocs or Manually. If it's done by Idoc's, customer validations need to be specified and implemented trought a ABAP development/enhancement. Error Handling is the biggest issue. Define fallback scenarios. Provid Business w/ tools to diagnosticate and solve the errors. Request replacemente Read (rectification) and so on.

Design and configuration tips & suggestions

This is the current configuration of switches I have setup on our network. Its about 150 miles long(east-west) and about 20 miles wide(north-south). All of the locations are connected via a wireless bridges(trango, tranzeo, smartbridges) or via an ISP private vlan. Currently I have the 3550's connecting to each other via ospf and they are all doing inter vlan routing. The 3550 at location 20(3550-20) is I guess one of the main switches. Its located at the data center and it has the most connections to other wirelessly connected buildings. I have it configured to do pbr to 4 different DSL connections and it also has the switches from the data center connected to it. The small to medium sized locations have 2950's or 2960's.
To give you an idea of what is all going on now:
18 Wireless Bridges
1200 Workstations
30 Servers
3000 Users
21 Mbit of internet access
200 Gig's of Data being Backed up over night
1 Local server at each location
We are planning on implementing a video conferencing system soon as well as voice services in the future.
What I would like to know is what is the best configuration for these switches to prepare them for video conferencing, data connections and maybe voice?
Vlan Configurations?
Trunking?
Routing?
QOS?
Any ideas or suggestions on configurations would be great. I want to make sure I go about this the right way the first time so I'm not reconfiguring when we want to setup the video or voice services.

QoS will be needed in any case and there are separate chapters regarding your different Catalyst switches.
Generally VoIP will be transported in separate Voice VLANs interconnected through IP routing. So you should also have a look into your overall LAN design. 3) gives you a guidance to a robust modern switching design.

Troble configuring Hyperion Shared Services with SQL Server 2005

I recently installed SQL server (SQL SERVER 2005) in my machine and then am trying to install Hyperion (9.3.1) products. I started with Shared services. It was installed successfully. Problem is occuring when am trying to configure Shared service with SQL database using Hyperion Configuration utility (9.3.1)
The error which is popping up is
Unable to connect to the database for the product Hyperion Shared Services.
Things which I tried from my end
1. Made sure TCP IP Protocol was enabled in SQL server configuration server.
2. hypuser was created in SQl server.
3. hypdb was created in SQL server.
4. Was having dynamic IP address so install Loopback adapter to obtain Static IP address and port.
5. Port and IP address was correct.
Let me know where I am going wrong.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)
This problem may occur when SQL Server 2005 is not configured to accept incoming local and remote connections, which is disabled by default in SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and also SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. To solve the connection forbidden problem, SQL Server 2005 needs to configure to allow incoming local and remote connections.
Firstly, ensure that SQL Server 2005 is configured properly to allow incoming connections on the instance of database server, else enable and turn on the local and remote connections setting.
Click Start button, then go to Programs or All Programs, then select Microsoft SQL Server 2005, followed by Configuration Tools. Click and run the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
On the “SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration” page, click Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections.
On the “Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections” page, expand Database Engine tree, click Remote Connections.
Select Local and remote connections, or Local connections only which applicable only if there is no remote system tries to connect to the SQL Server, useful when you just trying to connect and authenticate with the server after installing.
Select the appropriate protocol to enable to local and/or remote connections environment. To ensure maximum compatibility, select Using both TCP/IP and named pipes.
Click Apply button when done.
Click OK button when prompted with the message saying that “Changes to Connection Settings will not take effect until you restart the Database Engine service.”
On the “Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections” page, expand Database Engine, then click Service.
Click Stop button to stop the SQL Server service.
Wait until the MSSQLSERVER service stops, and then click Start button to restart the MSSQLSERVER service.
Secondly, SQL Server Browser service has to be enabled to allow for local and remote connections if SQL Server 2005 is running by using an instance name and users are not using a specific TCP/IP port number in the connection string.
Click Start button, then go to Programs or All Programs, then select Microsoft SQL Server 2005, followed by Configuration Tools. Click and run the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
On the “SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration” page, click Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections.
On the “Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections” page, click SQL Server Browser.
Select Automatic as the Startup type to start SQL Server Browser service automatically every time system starts.
Click Apply button.
Click on Start button to start the service immediately.
Click OK button.
Finally, if remote computer needs to connect and access SQL Server, an exceptions in Windows Firewall included in Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2), Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista needs to be created. If you’re using third-party firewall system, the exception rules also needed to be created to allow external remote connections to the SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Browser Service to communicate through the firewall, else connections will be blocked. Consult the firewall manual for more details. Each instance of SQL Server 2005 must have its own exception, together with an exclusion for SQL Server Browser service.
SQL Server 2005 uses an instance ID as part of the path when you install its program files. To create an exception for each instance of SQL Server, you must identify the correct instance ID. To obtain an instance ID, follow these steps:
Click Start button, then go to Programs or All Programs, then select Microsoft SQL Server 2005, followed by Configuration Tools. Click and run the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
In “SQL Server Configuration Manager”, click the SQL Server Browser service in the right pane, right-click the instance name in the main window, and then click Properties.
On the “SQL Server Browser Properties” page, click the Advanced tab, locate the instance ID in the property list.
Click OK button.
Then create an exception for SQL Server 2005 in Windows Firewall.
Click on Start button, the click on Run and type firewall.cpl, and then click OK. For Windows Vista, type firewall.cpl in Start Search box and press Enter key, then click on Allow a program through Windows Firewall link on left tasks pane.
In “Windows Firewall”, click the Exceptions tab, and then click Add Program.
In the “Add a Program” window, click Browse button.
Click the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe executable program, click Open button. MSSQL.1 with is a placeholder for the instance ID that is obtained from previous procedure. Note that the path may be different depending on where SQL Server 2005 is installed.
Click OK button.
Repeat steps 1 through 5 for each instance of SQL Server 2005 that needs an exception.
For SQL Server Browser service, locate the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlbrowser.exe executable program, and click Open button.
Click OK button.

Hyperion 11.1.2 Configurator Error

I have a hit a wierd Hyperion configurator error during configuration of an installation. I have already configured some components using the configurator but it seems to have corrupted when I came back to it to finish of the configuration. You're in luck...we experienced this issue. We are in a distributed environment and had configurator open on two boxes. Our theory is that the configurators get into a pushing match and lock out the Shared Services database thus causing Configurator to never launch again.
We dropped the schema in the Shared Services database and then configurator was able to run again
