Hyperion Essbase upgradation question

Hi viewers my name is prasad.. i need one help right now we are in the doing the up gradation of essbase11.1.1 to 11.1.3 but we don't have an experience in the previous. can anyone guide me that what is the precautions we need to take for that and how to take the back up for that 11.1.1 while we are doing the up gradation .

Nothing is like rocket science yeah u need to test in ur dev server then i think u would be able to do ,...give a effort first
first back up ur server and apply ..what i mean is start installer and there should be step or option where u want to upgrade ...hmm dont remember exact terminology

Upgrade Hyperion Essbase 7.1.3 to 9.3.1.2

Upgrade Hyperion Essbase 7.1.3 to 9.3.1.2
1. (BSO/ASO/attributes, security, report scripts, partitions)
2. (load rules, calcs, security) (ASO and IRB extracts, Reports, Batches - custom or new in Reports, custom web forms)
3) (EIS testing)
Migrate all above essbase applications from Prd to Dev boxes, including:
l Outline,
l Calc scripts,
l Reports scripts,
l Load rules,
l Subsitution variables,
l Partitions,
l Related shell/Maxl scripts,
l Data
l Sample user security
l Filter.
In addition, for Collect, we also need migrate all objects EIS related, including OLAP model, metadata outline, drill-through setting and others.

First you should make sure that you run the most recent version of Leopard, or even consider to upgrade to Snow Leopard. Then just Install Logic 9 either over Logic 7 or from scratch, both works well. You should not install LP 8 first.

Dear all,Our existing version of Hyperion products are as follows:1) Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server version 5.0.1 Patch 7 under SunOS 5.6 on Solaris Server2) Hyperion Wired for OLAP version 4.1.2 under Microsoft Win2000 Server on Intel machine.And we are going to upgrade Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server from 5.0.1 Patch 7 to 6.5.4 under SunOS 5.8 to get Windows XP support on Essbase client in client users' PC.Besides, we also intend to upgrade Hyperion Wired for OLAP v.4.1.2 to Hyperion Analyzer v.6.5. However, as client users' PC configuation don't meet the requirements for Hyperion Analyzer 6.5, we may need to postpone the Hyperion Analyzer 6.5 upgrade.Here, I have a question that can Hyperion Wired for OLAP v.4.1.2 can access Hyperion Essbase 6.5.4 OLAP applications.Finally, I also have a question that since Hyperion Analyzer 6.X, repository in Paradox format has been faded out, RDBMS for repository has been introduced since then. I do not think wired will even work with the 6.x runtimes. Your only real option is to put off the move untill you can manage the a6.5 upgrade.

Hyperion Essbase QAT Menu with Excel 2007

I just upgraded to Hyperion Essbase 11.1.1.3 and I recently upgraded to Excel 2007. Moving to XL2007 made the Essbase add-in two levels deep in the ribbon so I wanted to move this to the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT). I found a great tool to develop QAT menus authored by [url http://www.rondebruin.nl/qat.htm]Ron Debruin.

Everything worked great for a few month for both myself and about 75 coworkers but once we upgraded to Essbase 11.1.1.3 from 7, the menu macros stopped working for almost everyone except for myself and a few others.
I set this macro in the xlstart folders so that it opens with excel. The QAT menu still appears for everyone, but when selecting any of the menu items to run, nothing runs.
Example: When running

End Subfrom the custom QAT menu, nothing happens. What should occur is a popup login for Hyperion. I've even tried to run the code outside of the QAT menu and it does not work so this leads me to believe something is wrong with my Hyperion code. Now mind you, this work fine on my machine.
I'm unable to determine the cause for the macro to not work. Any help or troubleshooting pointers would be appreciated.

Hi Mathieu,
As per support matrix documentation, Essbase 7.1.3 is not supported with Excel 2007.
You may have to upgrade to client version 7.1.6.7 which supports Excel 2007.

Reverse engineer error with Hyperion Essbase and Planning

We are getting the following error in ODI Operator (3rd step) when trying to reverse-engineer Hyperion Essbase and Planning models. com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Cannot invoke a rollback operation when the AutoCommit mode is set to "true".
Our ODI repository resides in SQL Server.. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You should upgrade to the latest patch of ODI available on metalink.oracle.com 10.1.3.4.4.
There was an issue in 10.1.3.4 ODI with the intial reverse when using SQL server. If you shutdown all the ODI UI's and then restart. And then reverse it should work correctly. But you have to make sure you shut down all ODI tools.

Essbase Upgrade from 7x to 11x version

Hi All,
I am working on essbase upgrade from 7.1.0 version to 11x version, Just curious if somebody can help me in my basic question
1) I have read many blog suggesting that to upgrade to 7 to 11, we have to follow two step process i.e 7 to 9 and then to 11. Is it true?
2) If i am installation the 11x on completely a new either windows are linux box, can i just the load the data from 7x version cube to 11x cube?

This has been covered many times, if it is a new install then you could use the migration wizard to connect to your existing environment and migrate, you will need to take data separately.
Or you could just create the apps in the version 11 env, export the data and copy the objects from your 7 environment.

Hyperion Essbase Error: 1002097 Unable to load database [PlanType1]

Hello,
I am running Hyperion Essbase 9.2.0.3 version. This has happened 3 times now since last 2 weeks. I had to restore the APP folder from previous backup.
The message that i see is Error: 1002097 Unable to load database [PlanType1]
I have searched google and no luck. Anyone knows how to fix this or why we get this message. I don't want to restore from backup everytime.

Try run essmsh script to recover broken block's.

Unable to load data to Essbase (IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (DATA)

I'm trying to load data to Hyperion Essbase. Unfortunately it isn't going so well. I've followed the instructions but I keep getting this "BUFFER_SIZE" error. I haven't changed the default BUFFER_SIZE (it is set at <Default>:80) and I haven't changed any other parameters in the KM.
Appreciate any thoughts...

Yes! That's great but I'm not out of the woods yet. I had applied the patch incorrectly before -- I'd extracted it to the wrong directory. Now I get this new error: Missing standard dimension column for data load
Any thoughts on how to get by this one?

Odi 11g - IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (DATA) log file always empty

In odi 11g when using *"IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (DATA)"* setting the the "LOG_ENABLED" = true,
only an empty file are generated.
Just "LOG_ERRORS" file (if errors occurs) are created.
Is this just an my issue?
Can someone help me?
p.s.: the same issue, I got even with the *"IKM SQL to Hyperion Planning"*

Hyperion Essbase 9 and database.mdb

Hi all, I have installed Hyperion Essbase 9
- Hyperion essbase 9 server
- Hyperion essbase 9 administration services
- Hyperion essbase 9 cliend add-in for excell
Now i want do olap analysis on a database foodmart.mdb. I have problem to load it on essbase server. I can create only new db.

Sherpa,
Of the 24 tables in your Access, not all have data in . You might need to code SQL to pull the required data or make one smart data source file to load it into the cube .For that one needs to know what exactly the final presentation of your reports would look . I see few tables are just meant for description and other tables have data . Firstly,Request you to understand the essbase load process, which includes the campatible data sources and their formats .
As Andy suggested , DBAG or essbase tutorial is a good option . "SQL interface " documentation along with all Hyperion documentation can be found in the following URL

Unable to Obtain a Connection to Hyperion Essbase from Planning Application

Dear All,
I have installed FDM+Foundation+HFM+Essbase+Planning 11.1.1.3 (Tomcat)
I have stacked with the following problem:
when I try to open my data form, I am getting
“Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator”
Validate Database Connection & Validate Essbase Connection are successful throw Manage Data Source menu
Essbase user has admin privileges
In EAS console I can make myself sure, that my application is running
Data Form is valid (verified in Preview screen in Data Form wizard)
Can somebody help me with it?

Summary
Symptoms
When attempting to connect to Hyperion Planning as the admin user, the following error occurs:
Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator'
Cause
Hyperion Planning web accesses the application by making a connection to the Planning metadata in the relational repository (via Relational repository settings) and also to Essbase via the datasource settings.
Any Essbase connection issues indicate problems with the Essbase settings in the datasource or are related to the Essbase server.
Solution
- Edit the datasource via the Configuration Utility.
- Test the Essbase connection and make sure that the user used to make the connection is valid and has admin rights to Essbase.
- Restart the Hyperion Planning service once the Essbase user has been given the correct access rights.
- Login to the Essbase Administration Services (EAS) console and right click on the Essbase server name node -> Refresh security from Shared Services
- Expand the applications node (under the Essbase server name node) and check that there is an application with exactly the same name as the Planning application.
Note: Go to section 'manually recreating a Planning application in Hyperion Essbase, if the Planning application is missing in the above step.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web.
Manually recreating a Planning application in Essbase:
- Login to the EAS console as admin (the Essbase user used by admin must have Essbase administrator rights)
- Go to Essbase servers -> your Essbase server name -> right click on applications -> Create application -> Using Block Storage and enter the exact Hyperion Planning Application name then click on ok.
Note: The above step will only create the application shell without the databases.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web as admin and go to Administration menu -> Manage Database -> select database and filters (to create filter access to Essbase) and Refresh (refresh will also recreate the databases if they don't exist)
