Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio - usage log and exporting criteria

Hello, is there a way to run a usage log for the reports that we have in Financial Reporting Studio?
In addition, can I export the report criterias? I'm looking at potentially archiving some reports we have out on the server that is not currently being used. Thanks much!!!

The FRReportSrv log file under Hyperion\logs\BIPlus gives you the report usage tracking. I am not the developer of our process and I am not techie at all, but we have a process that scans the log files, parses the log files and load it into Oracle. Then thru Oracle Apex, we develop reports to track FR usage.
I am not sure what you mean by report criterias. Do you mean, for example, if the report is not used for over 5 months, you would like to archive it? If you can create a similar report like the one I described above, then yes, it would help you to determine the idle reports, but I am not sure if you can automatically archive the reports. I think it would have to be manual, where you would use the export function on Workspace to archive your report.

Hyperion financial reporting studio not responding

I have Hyperion financial reporting studio "client" (Hyperion 9.3.1) installed in my local machine - windows 32 bit machine.
The machine configuration is:
P4 3.0 GHz and 1 GB RAM.
When I launch Hyperion financial reporting studio with username , password and report server information the System performance parameter ( As found in task manager) goes following change:
CPU usage:fluctuates between 45 - 100% which was initially 1%
PF usage:jumps to 1.32GB which was initially 362MB
Physical memory available : drops down from 762188(K) to 1728(K)
application status: Not responding
AND ULTIMATELY THE WINDOW OF FINANCIAL REPORTING STUDIO VANISHES .There is no error log created ??
I cannot proceed further. Please help me out...

Hyperion Financial Reports Studio - Activex error 429

Greetings Everyone,
I have recently installed Hyperion Financial Reports Studio 11.1.2.1 on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine using the standalone installer (FinancialReportingStudio.exe)
After the install, when attempting to launch the client we get the classic run-time error 429 for active x.
I've had this problem before in previous engagements, and the solution was to run the config utility on the computer and the error would then go away. The problem is that the standalone installer does not seem to setup/install the configuration utility on the client PC.
Any suggestions on how to solve the problem? Already tried running the HRrunant.bat and that didn't help.

Good to hear the issue is resolved ...
However the update you gave contradicts the first update you gave when you started the thread...that it was a 32 bit machine (client)

I migrated from 7.5 to 9.3.1 a couple years back so hopefully this is somewhat helpful.
From a developer perspective, the report designer itself looks about the same. The most annoying changes for me were that they started migrating functionality AWAY from the client program and to the web. For instance, managing security is a pain as it is done through Workspace and it is a bit clunkly. I also ran into some issues where my old report's security information is not visible in Workspace. It is still 'working', but when you view report properties, it shows nothing for who has assigned security. Also, things like deleting/moving reports and creating folders are done through workspace and not the client program. "Copying" can be done through the client program by using "Save As" functionality.
There is a migration tool to move your old stuff to 9.3.1. It seemed to work OK; however, the User Interface was a bit screwy. For instance, it said I was 138% complete when it finished. It copied more reports than it showed as existing.... :)
On the back end, things changed quite a bit. In the older Financial Reports, the report objects existing in a single database table and if you wanted to, you could extract everything from that table. In 9.3.1, part of the information is in Workspace database (i.e. Report names/ID's, security access, hierarchy) and the actual report file itself is stored in a psedo-filesystem under the RM webapp. The names are not user friendly at all and you'll need to XREF from the database to make sense of it. When you finally find the actual report "file", they are compressed/encrypted.
From an end user perspective, things pretty much work the same way as always.

POV in Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio and Workspace

Hi!
I have the following problem.
I create a report in Hyperion FinReporting Studio, choose required members in POV. Save report.
Then I open it in Workspace and sometimes my chosen POV crushed: sometimes there are no chosen members, sometimes there is a free space.
How can I fix it? (It's not acceptable to choose POV as a prompt all time). Is it a bug?

Hi Natallia,
well first there are two type of POV in Hyperion financial reporting.
1. User POV
2. Grid POV
If you are never getting the USER POV in workspace then it may be that "Preview User Point of View" is off.
Just check it under FIle-->Preferences-->Financial Reporting in workspace.
If you want some default selection in your reports all the time, you should use Grid POV instead of USer POV.

Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio "Failed to Connect to Server"

One of my report developers recently got a new laptop. Since then, she hasn't been able to open an existing report or create a new one. She can log into Financial Reporting Studio, but when trying to open an existing report or create a new report, she gets the error message "Failed to Connect to Server".
We've tested using her laptop and using mine. We are both fine on my laptop. We both have same issue on her laptop. Therefore, we don't think it's a security/credentials issue.
We've searched help documentation and other threads in this forum but haven't been able to find what we need.
We suspect that file(s) are missing or something wasn't configured properly during the new install. Maybe the Planning ADM Driver?? Our company's tech support hasn't been able to help. This is a new implementation, the consultants are gone, and our IT staff isn't up to speed yet.
Can anyone offer help as to what file/configuration could be the cause and exactly how to correct?

We had the same issue after installing the Financial Reporting Studio client.
If you run the batch script HRRunAnt.cmd in the directory C:\Hyperion\products\biplus\install\bin after installation this fixes the problem.

Hyperion Financial Reports Studio Client Question

Hi,
I have a colleague that is on 11.1.1.3.0.0238 Financial Reports Client. He can connect to the server just fine. However when I try, I get the ole 'You are not authorized to use this functionality. Contact your Admiinistrator'. However when I use my login/pw on his machine I connect just fine.
So I need to make sure my client is same version. Is there a file I can copy from his install directory to mine that will make them the same? I can't get the patches as I have no Support Identifier. Usually it's just replacing a few files?

11.1.1.3.0.0238 should be the unpatched version of Financial Reporting, if you log into workspacew and go to help > about > details you will see the version of financial reporting.
The server and client usually have to be the same version for it to work so unless you have patched your client you are probably on the same version, if you have patched it then you should be able to tell from Opatch
If you are not sure then it may be easier just to uninstall FR Studio and install the base version.
You could also open up or extract HReports.jar which is in the <HYPERION_HOME>\products\biplus\lib folder, go into the META-INF folder, view MANIFEST.MF and look for Implementation-Version:
There are lots of articles in Oracle Support around the error message you are getting, if you have no support identifier I am sure you will know somebody in your company that should have access.

Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio: question re expansion across grids

Hello all,
I have built a report in Financial Reporting Studio that consists of 3 grids: 1 for working version, 1 for reconciliation version x and 1 grid for the variance between the two.
My row dimension is entity, which has been set to "allow expansions".
I have been asked to set it up so that if the user expands a row in the first grid, the same row is automatically expanded in the second and third grid, showing the user the same members across grids (and therefore across versions).
Is this possible and if so, how do I set this up?

Yes it is possible to have same row selected in grid 1 displayed in multiple grids.
Below steps will also retrive same data, add a formula row (or column also) say in Grid 2 having formula :-
Grid1.row[1] ,where you want to dispaly same data of Grid 1, row 1 across Grid 2 in some particular row say row 1.
Then modify the heading for row 1 (in Grid 2) by adding text functions to retrieve the member names of grid 1.
Select the heading for row 1, on the Heading Row Properties sheet, select Custom Heading. In box, enter the MemberName function to retrieve the member name from row 1 of Grid1.
The function syntax is
*<<MemberName("Grid1", 1, "DimensionName")>>*
If you want only member name then adding text function to desired location heading properties will work.

Hyperion financial reporting studio hit an unexpected error occurred

i do not know whether this is the right place to post this query but gave a try.
Here is my problem:
This is newly setup client PC with financial reporting. When trying to login to the FR, it prompted "*An Unexpected Error Occurred*".

If this is a client specific issue only with FR Studio continuing to log you in successfully on the server(if it happens to be Windows) or if other client PC also allow a successful login,then you can try a couple of things.
1.Telnet the following ports from the client to the server and ensure connectivity--6800 to 6805,8200,8299,these are default ports,if you are using customized ports then ping the appropriate port numbers
2.If telnet to all of these ports is successful,then copy the HReports.jar file from the server from under the products/biplus/lib directory and replace the same file on the client machine,the location is going to be the same,ensure you back up the HReports.jar file on your machine before replacing it if case you need to revert back

I am using hyperion 9.3.1 .I am able to open financial management studio as an admin user but when i drag and drop a grid in a report it gives an error stating it is unable to fetch the list of data sources from the database repository.I have configured 1 server as app and report server and another one as oracle database server using ip addresses.Checked everthing including host file but nothing works.Thanks in advance

We were also facing this same issue. But i was able to solve it. Actually what happened was i remember registering Reporting and Analysis using the same database reusing the same old repository. And after that this issue/error came up.
So i took the back up of repository database and also luckily still on testing environment and had not much to loose. So i reconfigured the relational database dropping all the databases. It resolved the issue.
But why it happened and the real cause is not know even Oracle support was unable to answer this.

Hyperion Financial Reporting - Studio V11.1.2

I have a report with a row and column template in it I am wanting the format for the row template for five lines to have one decimal point but I do not need the other data in the other row accounts to include decimals for the row or columns. I tried to format the cells in the row template to include one decimal point but it did not come over in the reports the template was used in - I presume this is because of inherit from the column template. Any help would be appreciated.

U can do either way :
1. Insert a hidden text row/column containing the formatting you wish to show in the row/column template and set the Inherit from on the Property sheet to reference the hidden row or column. Else u can set the row or column template with formats through the Format Dialog Box.
But above steps has to be followed before saving the row/column as a template.
2. Or simply u can inherit the fomat of the desired rows in the template from the report in which the template is added to.

Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio Issue

Hi,
We have an issue with Hyperion FRS, where the users other than Admin are not able to see the reports. When they try to open the reports the following error is displayed:
"1012: Report contains an invalid grid. The following dimension(s) could not be found: <Dimension Names>"
We refreshed the security and also synchronized Essbase Security with shared services. When this did not remove the error, we restarted all the Hyperion services, but there was no change in the error.
When an Admin creates a report using FRS he/she is able to see all the dimensions, but when a provisioned user logs in to create a report, none of the dimensions are visible.
Any help to solve the issue is much appreciated.

Good Morning Mars,
I had looked at that document and even tried changing the data base connection. I also created a new Data base connection and assigned it to the reports but still it gives me the same error.
This problem is only with one plan type in the application and the other plan types work without any issues.
On further investigation we have noticed that the issue is with connecting to the Plan Type via Essbase connections. We tried to create a report in Web Analysis studio using an Essbase Connection to the plan type but even there we couldn't see the dimensions.

Hyperion Financial Reports Studio Error. Max No of connections exceeded.

I have encountered an error in FR Studio, it says Max No of Connections Exceeded.
It occured twice in this month, everytime it happens we need to restart Reporting and Analysis Framework. Can someone suggest where can I increase the max no of connections allowed?

You will have tun serviceconfig.sh under Hyperion_Home\products\Foundation\workspace\bin to bring up GUI,then From the menu available you will see Remote service configurator,select that and provide the credentials.After you login,there should RM1 and SB1.You will have to go o properties of RM1 and SB1 and then increase the connection.Restart is required for this to take affect.
