Hyperion Planning Dimension building techniques

I am currently working on Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1.
I am interested to know about dimension building in planning.
1. What dimension building techniques available for Hyperion Planning 11 other than DRM, FDM and manual techniques?
2. I have read in a blog that Outline load Utility doesnot work with Hyperion 11x for dimesion building and "Hyperion Dimesion Library " is available in its place. Is it true ?
But we are using Outline load utility for loading exchange rates in our 11 version application.
3. I have worked on ODI 10g and 11g with Hyperion 9x
Is Hyperion planning 11x compatible in building dimensions using ODI from scratch and also adding members to existing hierarchy as per changing business?

outlineload utility is for classic applications only for loading metadata.
yes ODI is compatible.

Help! Hyperion Planning Dimension formula no longer works after name change

Hi,
I am having an issue with Hyperion Planning. I recently changed an account's dimension name from ASales & Property Taxes (D) to AProperty Taxes (D). However, the original name was used in a formula of another account. When I ran my refresh I got the following error:
Error [1200354] detected in member formula for member "AFacilities Costs as a % of Revenue".
So I went into planning and went to the referenced account and looked at the formula. The formula still had the old member name ASales & Property Taxes (D) so I changed the formula to the new name AProperty Taxes (D). However, when I went to validate the formula I got the following error message:
Error compiling formula for [] (line 1): expected type [NUMBER] found [STRING] (["ASales & Property Taxes (D)"]) in function []
However, my formula has the new name not the old name. Here is my formula:

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Please help, as a result of this issue none of my accounts or clients are getting pulled into the Balance Sheet causing it to not tie with Oracle :( Thanks!!

Hi,
What happens if you try and refresh with updating the formula to reference the correct name?
You won't be able to validate the formula because the member does not yet exist in essbase until the refresh has completed.
If you have problems you could always, remove the formula and store it, refresh so the new member gets created, then put the formula back and refresh again.

ODI - Java Error when trying to reverse engineer - Hyperion Planning

Hi,
I am receiving the error below when I am attempting reverse engineer the emission members into the models tab in the ODI Designer. In topology manager I get connection successful in both Synopsis memory engine and in File technology and I have checked all my settings and everything looks correct compared to the test environment. We are actually testing the Production install with a very simple Hyperion Planning dimension build. Does anyone have any ideas why I am receiving the error below.

Hi,
It looks as though we got it to work. However the way we got it to work is a bit confusing. We had someone just login and try it. The only difference is they used the admin username instead of the one we were using. They successfully ran the reverse. Then we re-logged in with the other username we were using before and it worked.
I just realized however before they did that, I was on the Prod server trying to open and view the odiparams.bat file. I accidentally ran the file by choosing 'open' instead of 'edit'. Thus I'm thinking that running that odiparams.bat file actually fixed the issue rather than logging in with admin account.
What would your professional opinion be on this as we can't recreate the issue and figure out which one fixed it.

How to lock data independently for several groups in Hyperion Planning?

I 'm developing a forecast application using Hyperion Planning 9.3.1 where the users shall be able to enter their monthly forecast numbers. We have two groups of users. Each group may have up to two forecast updates per month. The groups are independent – say, Group A may have one update for August and they want the numbers to be there by August 10th, while the Group B may have two updates for the same month with the first update to be completed by July 20th and second – by August 5th. Nobody knows in advance how many updates they are going to have for the month and when they are going to have them. Nothing should prohibit the users from updating their forecast numbers for the future months – say, they may enter their September forecast in July.
Managers of both groups want to make sure that users don't change forecast numbers after the month close. If they plan to have two updates per month – they want data from the 1st update to be locked (become read-only) before they have 2nd update, and data from 2nd update locked after the month close; if they plan to have only one update per month – they want it locked after the month close.
Any suggestions how I may structure the dimensions of this application to make sure that if I lock first August update for Group B on, say, August 3rd, the other group still can have it open until August 10th?

What, I am NOT able to figure out How to LINK Hyperion Planning Outline to Oracle EBS HR Tables. cause in Hyperion Outline i m able to view Dimensions Not particular Column to map with EBS HR Table (column).
Eample:
In EBS HR we have Employee Number in Per_all_people_f but in Hyperion Planning Dimension is ONLY Employee.

Confused How to push Data from Oracle DB Tables into Hyperion Planning?

I m Newbie to ODI. My DataSource is Oracle 11g Database (HR Tables) and my Target is Hyperion Planning.
I successful imported Oracle DB HR tables into ODI and Hyperion Planning Dimensions Like(Employee) but i dont understand in " ODI Interface" how i am going to do Mapping between Oracle tables and Planning application Dimension, am i doing wrong way?
I am confused if i have to push Data from Oracle 10g HR Tables into Hyperion Planning am i following right approach ?

Hyperion Planning and Smartview : Build function HS Description

Dear all,
I am currently using Hyperion planning 11.1.2.2, I would like to display in excel adhoc reports the description of some dimension members via smartview.
To this end I used the "build function" functionality:
I selected an empty cell and call the functionality, a window appears with two parameters :
1-connection : this field is automatically filed (WSFN|HP|pc|Planning|Plan1)
2-Member List : I would like to fil it manually ex : "Account#100"
I click on validate : the following message appears : Selected connection does not support this function.select new connection.
I would like to know what is meant by connection? what is the syntax of the connection string? could you please provide an example?

Hsdescription is not supported by Planning connection.
You can use that with Essbase connection.

Unable to load Dimension into Hyperion planning using ODI ?

Hi All
We are trying to load Dimension into hyperion planning Ver. 11.1.2 using ODI. We have created the interface and mapped the source csv file to target planmning application using ODI KM.
LKM file to SQL
IKM SQL to Planning
We get success in ODI's Operator but the Dimension is not updated nor new data is insreted.
We get this message in Error file:-

Can you check the error log file as you have posted the log file, it should give more information to why the records were rejected.

How to migrate dimension member text files from ODI to Hyperion Planning

Hi
We are having an issue with ODI that it was not connecting to planning.
Later with some instructions from oracle, we have tried to set some RMI path in websphere and we tested the RMI connectivity test.
It was successfully connecting to planning.
Then we want to test that ODI is connecting to planning or not.
For this I think if anyone can send the doc relating to dimension member upload thru ODI to hyperion planning using text files, it will be helpful.
Appreciate if anyone can help us on this.

Go through His(John's) earlier blogs which very clearly explains how to get connected & keep the ball rolling.
If you're so scared to use the existing connections, you may want to-
i) Set up new Master & work repository;
ii) Do few quick configurations from Topology Manager;
iii) Create your project, models, Interface;

Remove access for each member of a particular dimension from Hyperion Planning Applciation

We are trying to remove access for groups for each member of a particular dimension( which has more than 1000 members) of a Hyperion Planning application. We are going through Administration->Manage DImensions -> member , Under security click view and select the group and then remove access But the problem is there are more than 1000 members under this dimension , so it will be time consuming to go to each member and then remove access for the group. Is there any other way we can do this?
Also is there a way to bulk delete native directory groups from Hyperion Shared services, instead of deleting each native group manually one by one?

The reaso we want to go for Relational tables is that when we did Exportsecurity utility for that planning application and imported back the SecFile.txt without doing any changes ,still it errored out giving errors like :
"The following access not imported:-"PLN-ORG-0278-999 Bureau Strtgc & Oprtnl ""PLNning",0278-999,READWRITE,MEMBER due toInvalid user name found in the file."
It is erroing out even if we did not do any modifications to the secfile.txt.
Moreover there are more than 1000 members for which we have to remove access permissions manually one by one. It is a tedious process.
So we are looking at other options like , which relational tables have got Native directory groups information, and the sql queires we can execute to remove the unwanted Native directory groups from Shared Services?

Extract dimension member in 11.1.2.0 hyperion planning

There i no extraction tool in this version.
Is it possible to use mdx query ? if yes can you please help me with some hints.

I would like for the entity dimension used two differents hierarchies (two differents relation Parent/child), one for example used by the accounting service and an other used by the sale service.
The level0 member are the same but parents are differents in these two hierarchies.
It's something possible to do into OFA or EPB and I would like to do the same into Hyperion. planning.

Loading Attribute Dimension - Hyperion Planning

about loading attribute dimension on Essbase, but when I try to execute the same steps using Hyperion Planning Adapter in ODI, I cannot see the option inside the model to reverse also all dimension attribute, hence I cannot load members on my dimension attribute. Do you know how can I develop the attribute dimension load on Hyperion Planning?

Hi,
You first need to create the attribute dimension in planning, ODI does not create dimensions.
Once you have created your attribute dimension you can reverse the planning application again and the attribute dimension should be created as a DataStore

We have an requirement to customise the period dimension as follows,

While creating application what did you choose to have for Period Dimension , is it Periods by default or you did go for custom ?
Also check hp_admin guide page 104
Period Dimension Properties
Period, Parent, Alias: Default, Alias: T1, Data Storage, Two Pass
Calculation, Description, Formula, UDA, Smart List, Data Type,
Operation, Type, Start Period, End Period, Aggregation (Plan1),
Aggregation (Plan2), Aggregation (Plan3)
Notes:
. For Period, Parent should be specified for most update operations.
. Type (such as Base or Rollup) cannot be changed for existing members. You can add and
update Rollup and Alternate members. You can update BegBalance and Base time periods
(for example, to add an alias). You cannot add or modify YearTotal time period. The DTS
Period type is recognized, but is not supported by the Outline Load utility. If you try to load
DTS information, the utility displays an error in the log file.
. Start Period and End Period are valid for Rollup Period types.

Can't open form and dimension on Hyperion Planning

Hi,
I am working on Hyperion version 11.1.1.3 on my client's environment (Microsoft Windows Server 2003).
There are two servers: one is for database and essbase, the other one is for reporting, foundation, and Planning.
Since a month ago this customer experiences this problem:
when login using admin user to Hyperion Planning (port 19000 and 8300 both can be used), the menu on the top is loaded but the rest are blank.
I tried to open form by using the left menu but also doesn't work, still blank. I also managed to try open the dimension, it also can't be loaded
restarted service and server also done, but doesn't work as well.
nb: this error only occurs on admin id, I tried to create another user account and give the same provision with admin, the id works well, no problem and no blank case.
anyone could please advice what happened and solution, I give my thanks to you.

In my planning table schema, there are:
- HSPSYS_ACTION
- HSPSYS_APP_CLUSTER_DTL
- HSPSYS_APPLICATION
- HSPSYS_CLUSTER
- HSPSYS_DATASOURCE
- HSPSYS_PI_INFO
- HSPSYS_PROPERTIES
which one contains the value that you mentioned above?

Hyperion Planning : Period Dimension in Days

I need to realize a period dimension in days! Moreover i need to have an organization in week whic include the existence of week day (Sunday, Monday..) to make a comparison beetween all Sunday in differnet Year.
Is it possible to have a native calendar function in Hyperion Planning, or Does exist another way to solve this problem?

Best practice would be to use Period dimension down to weeks then create a 'Days' dimension which holds the weekdays, this will help your blocksize too and will allow the reporting requirements you have mentioned.
