Hyperion Planning Workflow - Is it really being used?

I'm trying to get a sense on how much clients are using workflow in Hyperion Planning (pre-version 11.1.2). All of my engagements have it turned off due to product rigidity or business not ready for workflow.

I'll chime in as well..in theory it is awesome however when we found out users could skip tasks and simply mark them as complete we decided why bother?
I think in theory is good for old applications/ERP system but nowadays that type of workflow is more cumbersome than helpful

Unfortunately, you cannot change the dimensions that make up the "Planning Unit". (Scenario, Version & Entity)
This enhancement has been requested from Hyperion many times. I can only imagine that the contents of the Planning Unit are very central to the inner workings of Hyperion Planning, and very difficult to change.
This limitation has forced me to make some undesirable design changes in the past. For example, I have had to combine dimensions like Entity and Department (into a single dimension called Entity) so that I could get department into the workflow. That's about the only solution for your issue. Unfortunately, it can really muck up your dimensions.
I wish there was a better solution.

How can I tell if direct-path insert is really being used?

I have a number of INSERT statements with /*+ APPEND */ hints, that I suspect are not using direct-path insert processing. How can I tell (via the plan, via Enterprise Manager, whatever) if direct-path is being used?
If it is not being used, then I can research why that might be, and try to resolve the obstacles there. But if it is being used, then I want to know that so I can focus elsewhere.

Thanks for that link. When I checked my example again I realised that it had a foreign key constraint between the two tables I was inserting into. (It was a demonstration of how to normalise an incoming denormalised address table, so converted a flat table into address/address lines). When I removed the constraint I got the multi-table insert.
However, I followed this up with a check on the execution plans and for the 10.2.0.3 I was running noted the following:

------------------------------------------------------------If you try to check for direct path inserts by looking at the in-memory plans, you might not see the direct load that is really happening. (Perhaps the a check that both / all the target tables are locked with TM mode 6 may give you a clue.)

TREX Active Index - Which index is really being used?

We are using ISA E-Commerce 5.0 for ERP 6.0. We run the ISA_CATALOG_REPLICATION program as an hourly job to create indexes in TREX. We add items to our catalog several times a day. Our variant is set to keep 5 indexes.
1. Where do I verify which index is REALLY active? They are all green in TREX Admin and they all have an Active flag in SRMO. (I am pretty certain the older indexes are not being used by ISA because the new items show up in B2B after the ISA_CATALOG_REPLICATION completes)
2. When the ISA_CATALOG_REPLICATION cancels due to an SRET error, I want to go back to the last valid index in TREX and force the system to use that index. How do I do that?

SAP told that this functionality is not available in TREX. So there really is no point in having more than 1 index at a time.

User Role - Hyperion Planning Workflow

Hey,
I have Provisioned a user as 'Interactive User' in my Planning application. However, in the Workflow process, this user gets the option to Promote and Approve as well.
I do not want this user to have the right to Approve. Any suggestions.
Would appreciate a swift response.

Dear All,
I have raised a couple of bugs against it.
I think now all other products are moving way ahead ......Our Hyperion is still have lots of limitations .....
The following are the points i have noticed.
1- There is no secure workflow .... Without any one promoting it or reviewing it ....with one click final approver can approve the budget.
So what is the use of promotional path if that is not followed in hyperion.
2- Bug with Delegate in work flow.
3- Budget initiator will see Originate option & Budget approver will seee Promote.
( Why why r they seeing ?????)
So be carefull and test the system before you demonstrate to the client.

Hi, actually i'm not sure what you mean by format.
For translation from english into russian i have changed HyperionPlanning.ear
(my path D:\ORCL\MW\EPMSystem11R1\products\Planning\AppServer\InstallableApps\Common)
There you can find HspCustomMsgs_en.properties and HspCustomMsgs_en.template and do Ctrl+F with "email"
f.e. MSG_PM_EMAIL_NOTIFY_TITLE=... etc
Unfortunately i forgot either you need change both or one of the files. You can try it youself.
And be sure you are restarting Planning after that

Unable to load Dimension into Hyperion planning using ODI ?

Hi All
We are trying to load Dimension into hyperion planning Ver. 11.1.2 using ODI. We have created the interface and mapped the source csv file to target planmning application using ODI KM.
LKM file to SQL
IKM SQL to Planning
We get success in ODI's Operator but the Dimension is not updated nor new data is insreted.
We get this message in Error file:-

Can you check the error log file as you have posted the log file, it should give more information to why the records were rejected.

Hyperion Planning Dimension building techniques

I am currently working on Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1.
I am interested to know about dimension building in planning.
1. What dimension building techniques available for Hyperion Planning 11 other than DRM, FDM and manual techniques?
2. I have read in a blog that Outline load Utility doesnot work with Hyperion 11x for dimesion building and "Hyperion Dimesion Library " is available in its place. Is it true ?
But we are using Outline load utility for loading exchange rates in our 11 version application.
3. I have worked on ODI 10g and 11g with Hyperion 9x
Is Hyperion planning 11x compatible in building dimensions using ODI from scratch and also adding members to existing hierarchy as per changing business?

Create and Populate a Hyperion Planning Cube using Hyperion Data Integratio

Friends,
I am new to Essbase and have worked extensively in Informatica. Hyperion DIM (OEM version of Informatica) is chosen to create and populate a Hyperion Planning System (with Essbase cube in the backend).
I am using Hyperion DIM 9.3.
Can someone let me know (or share a document) how I can do the following
1) Create a Planning application with a Essbase Cube in the backend using Hyperion Data Integration Management
2) How to populate the Essbase outline and the actuals Essbase cube with data using DIM.

You cannot create planning applications using DIM.
To load metadata have a look at :- http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/hyp_fp/DIM_Planning/OBE_Dim_Planning.html
You can refresh planning database in DIM by
To enable the Refresh Database property for a session:
In Workflow Manager, right-click the session and select Edit.
Click the Mapping tab.
Select a Planning target.
Check the Refresh Database box.

How to delete Hyperion Planning member using ODI

Hi All,
Anyone know how to delete Hyperion Planning member using ODI? And how to update account type on Hyperion Planning Using ODI?
e.g.:
I have a member with account type Saved Assumption, and I need to change to Revenue, but it cannot change. But if I change to Expense, it can. So what's wrong with the mapping?
This is my csv file for update a member on Hyperion Planning.

Hi,
To delete a member you use the Operation column, the following values can be used.
Update – This is the default and is used if not populated, it Add, updates, moves the member being loaded.
Delete Level 0 - Deletes the member being loaded if it has no children
Delete Idescendants –Deletes the member being loaded and all of its descendants.
Delete Descendants –Deletes the descendants of the member being loaded, but does not delete the member itself.
Does the member you trying to change to Revenue have a variance reporting set to "Expense" as it will need to be set to "Non Expense"
Also in your interface you can add logging options in the IKM, this maybe will give a clearer indication where your problem lies.

Smart View 9.3.1 error to connecting Hyperion Planning using Excel

When I try to connect the Hyperion Planning 9.3.1 using Smart View 9.3.1 I had the following error "Client authorization is needed to accpet the certificate". I am using the URL connection with the following address http://server_name:8300/HyperionPlanning/SmartView.

Based on our web session your production BEA license has not been installed and your production server is limiting the number of unique connections to five clients. Those first five clients who connected to the system.
As we proved in the web session Internet Explorer gets a 403 error and Firefox shows the root cause of the five license issue.
You may verify this by looking at the license.bea file on your servers and you will see it is an evaluation license. Being a licensed Hyperion customer entitles your company to use a restricted use WebLogic in a non-clustered environment. Below is the proper license.
The fix for this is to do the following:
1) Download a license code from Oracle
2) Go to http://licensecodes.oracle.com/bea.html
3) Download LIC-WLXB92
4) On your server(s) backup <BEA_DIRECTORY>\license.bea
5) Copy text file within the LIC-WLXB92 over the license.bea file
6) Restart your Hyperion Services

Unable to load data to Hyperion planning application using odi

When I try to load data into planning using odi, the odi process completes successfully with the following status in the operator ReportStatistics as shown below but the data doesn't seem to appear in the planning data form or essbase

I am using ODI 11g and trying to load the metadata for Hyperion Planning application 11.1.2.1. But I couldnt load all the Product members in Product Dimension.
Could able to load few members but was able to run the interface successfully but thrown error while loading few members(Most of the members are shared members, verified that base members existed). Please find the below error log.

We are trying to update metadata into classic planning application using outlineload utility, but we are facing error as given below::

Error encountered with Database connection, recreating connections.
Nested Excetpion: java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view doe
s not exist
Query Failed: SQL_DELETE_EXPIRED_EXTERNAL_ACTIONS:[100]
java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
Please suggest a way to solve this issue.

Looks like its sequence issue. Can you check if HSP_ACTION_ID_SEQ sequence is available for this planning application.
