Hyperion Reporting Tool

I have no knowledge of Hyperion products but have a fundamental question on what tool satisfies the traditional reporting needs such as CFR reporting, etc; Is it SmartView or some other tool within Hyperion or another product?
I was also told SmartView lets you change the data it has reported; to me that's not a feature of any reporting tool, it should not manipulate the data.

There are a number of reporting tools available for Essbase. Smartview can be used, but is also an ad-hoc reporting and entry tool. Many analysists find it very useful, but it is not meant for large production reporting tasks. You might look at Hyperion Financial Reporting and/or OBIEE. There is also a good third party tool called Dodeca from applied Olap.

As far as I know Brio acquired SQRiBE Technologies which had SQR.
SQR is called as Production Reporting in later version.
You can have a look at the documentation

Again these are things I know,there might be better people in the forum who have worked with the product for more years that me. :)

- text type accounts
- smartlist accounts
Be prepared for some extra time needed to get used to the report editor. The interface feels like it was build for Windows 3.11.

Can anyone tell me what is the lowest verison of Hyperion Interactive Reporting tool and the latest version. I need this for my analysis.
I searched for it , I was able to find Hyperion 11 is the latest one and Hyperion 6 was the lowest as far I searched.

Hope this gives you a little history lesson on the product. I have only started working with Brio 8.1.3 (now Interactive Reporting) since 2006. I have seen documents for version 6.x, and I heard version 7.x was a horrible product and short-lived.
Interactive Reporting Studio (the client version) has not really changed much since version 8.x. The drivers to connect to various ODBC have been added with introduction of 32-bit and 64-bit O/S.
I am a big fan of Brio, but it's not a commonly use tool.

Reporting Tools

I'm relatively new to BW...I've been supporting it internally for our company for the last year+, but I come from a .NET background. My questions are in regards to the reporting tools that people use at different implementations. We use the BEx Analyzer with BW 3.5, but have been relatively disappointed with the user interface and the performance of the queries. We'll be upgrading to Netweaver BI after the first of the year.
1. What other reporting tools (3rd party, web tools, etc.) have people used and how have they performed with BW/BI?
2. How much of an improvement, either in performance or the user interface, is there with the upgrade to BI?

1. There are few third party reporting tools you can integrate with BW data like Business Object, Cognos Reporting sofware, Hyperion etc. All are pretty good.
2. If you are upgrading to BI 7.0, there are lots of new features added to BW/BI reporting tools and one new tool added is Report Designer.
If you are really upgrading to BI 7.0, I don't think you need any third party tools but again it depends on totally what tool you are comfortable with.

Hey Prasad.
Now there's an open question (ie: which is better, Ford or Chevy).
I'm sure this has been address on this forum before so you might want to perform a search for this subject.
However, dipping my toes in the pool ...
1. Oracle is pushing Discoverer as an important tool in their repertoire. Future versions will now interface with XML Publisher (now BI Publisher), etc. so it's tightly inter-woven into Oracle. BO, Cognos, etc. are 3rd. party tools and therefore not tightly woven.
2. If running Oracle Apps, then you can use the BIS views for pre-written views, Disco workbooks, etc. It's simply not practical to try to use BIS without Discoverer.
3. Newest version of Disco (10g r2) now supports OLAP. Badly ... but it's a start.
4. Oracle is really pushing the idea of everything being in the database and therefore they are pushing OLAP, DW stuff in the database along with your relational stuff. What this means in tools is that they're strongly pushing Disco with OLAP instead of a customer having to buy hardware, software (ie: Hyperion, Cognos, etc.), people (dbas to manage, software types to program), etc. and exporting your data from the Oracle database to a 3rd. party database to then report on. Again, Disco with OLAP (and someday if actual possible / practical) mixing your OLTP stuff with OLAP stuff.
5. It's been awhile since I used BO and Cognos so not sure if their newest versions have the same idea of 3 versions (well 2 someday) where you create the report with Plus (or Desktop) and allow users to lightly manipulate (but not create) existing reports using a simple HTML browser (Viewer).
6. Discoverer is a neat name as it sounds like you're stuttering ...
I'm sure they'll be lots of other reasons stated by others on this board, but if I was betting the farm on where to go, I would go with Discoverer if I had an Oracle installation. It'll cost you - and Oracle is definitely in it for making a buck or two - but if you're in for a penny with Oracle databases, etc., then you're in for a pound and using 3rd party tools that may do the same, less or even a bit more, never appeals to me as Oracle will either catch up and surpass them ... or let's be realistic ... buy them out! Like Microsoft, they've been doing that lately with a spare few billion dollars falling out of Larry's pockets.

Migrating Hyperion Reports to OBIEE.

Hi, I'm OBIEE analyst and I don't know so much about "Hyperion World".
So, we need to migrate some Hyperion Reports (Web Analysis, Financial Reporting and Interative Reporting - modules) to OBIEE.
I've been studing about the subject and I discovered that for Interactive Reporting Reports there are a tool called by Translation Workbench that migrate all Hyperion Reports to OBIEE, not simple like I said, but seems it works.
So, for the other modules(Web Analysis and Financial Reporting) I didn't find out anything about them.
Can someone help me?

I have some reports in three Hyperion modules:
- Hyperion Web Analysis
- Hyperion Interactive Reporting
- Hyperion Financial Reporting
So, I know that for Hyperion "IR", there is a tool called "Oracle Translation Workbench" that migrate "BQY" to OBIEE Repository and OBIEE Answers... But for "FR" and "WA" I didn't find out anything about migration to them.

Hyperion Reporting and Analysis

Hello Gurus,
So I installed Hyperion (11.1.2.2) foundation services(all componants), essbase(all componants), planning (all componants. well, it was only one componant), Reporting and Analysis framework (web application, services and common libraries. i installed only these two because hyperion planning depends on them), financial management ADM driver (chosen by default when i want to install hyperion reporting and analysis). i installed them and configured them all togather. I'm using a Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production on Windows 2008 SP2 32bits.
Configuration of Reporting and Analysis framework failed, and that caused several problems when i ran the EPM system Diagnosis. this is what i got. Note: I'm gonna list only the errors/warnings in anything other than reporting and Analysis. as for reporting and analysis, i'm gonna list everything. sorry it's so long....

yes, looks like i didn't have moduke 7 downloaded. however after i did and installed it, i still got the following errors that seemed to do with connectivity to RAFRAMEWORK and it's database. Can Some One Tell me what Hyperion Reporting Analysis Server Is? How do we get this Installed at Port 6800 and what is the name of the executable.
I can't login into Workspace or Reporting Studio becuase of this server?

Hyperion Reporting 7.21 - E-mail / SMPT Configuration

Good afternoon,
I need to update my SMTP configuration to point to our new Exchange server as my Scheduler within HR no longer sends e-mails. I have updated our hr_global.properties file to reflect the new server and recycled the services. I can also send test messages via telnet which also works properly. When I execute a Scheduled Batch I receive a "Success" message but the e-mail is never sent. Here's the back-end error message that is received within the HRSchedSvr.log file.

Hi Ekta,
Probably the best Hyperon tool is Financial Reporting, which creates Production ready reporting/PDFs for export or bursting scheduling.
Although I'm not sure about supporting JavaBean as a data source - one way around it might be to export the data from the source into an essbase "reporting cube".

BI Reporting Tools - Which one to prefer ?

We have many number of use Oracle Financials users and we do have exposure to all BI reporting tools, in addition to OFA. We are finding it dfficult to understant which tool would be the best to use in different situatoin. As we have Discoverer, DBI, OFA, ADI - It is confusing which tool to prefer in the first point, while creating reports.Also as we are in the developing end, we find it difficult to tell poeple that this tool would be the best for this sitation, as the same report could also be generated from other reporting tools.
Could anyone tell me where I can find documentation that would help us to identify the right tools for the right situation?

For actual reporting tools, the standard Oracle Reports is of course popular as it comes with Oracle Apps predefined reports.
However, Discoverer is popular as it allows 'ad-hoc' reporting (which is another whole story in that do you want end users to perform ad-hoc querying) and its a tool that under 10g r2 has really come together.
XML Publisher is definitely something that Oracle is pushing more - and supposedly a some time in the long future replacement for Reports (so I've heard but who knows if the source is correct).
If you're referring to relational table tools, then the biggies are Oracle Discoverer, Cognos Impromptu, Business Objects, Brio, etc. However some have been bought out in recent past (ie: Brio). They all use a middle layer (ie: EUL, catalog, universe) and all have strengths and weaknesses. It's usually a safe argument to use the Oracle tool (if you can wait for it to catch up to competitors) as Oracle tools are usually tightly aligned with Oracle database, Apps, etc. But if you want more disparate sources to use the tool with, then Oracle tools (ie: Discoverer) may not always be the best one to use.
For OLAP reporting, the big boy is Hyperion (but at a considerable cost). Now, however Oracle is really trying to kill these other tools (sorry ... compete with), with the 10g database that supports relational and OLAP in the same database and their query tools (ie: Disco Plus 10g r2) that can access both / either.
So, it's one of those questions that always comes around again. Of course, General Motors is better than Ford, right? Same argument, but I've found that a company hanging it's hat on Oracle tools in an Oracle environment (database) and especially in an Oracle Apps shop (Enterprise Suite), usually is happy. Not always happy at the current version, but Oracle with it's humungous amount of money and resources, usually either gets their tool up to their competitor's level - or buys them out!

Which Oracle reporting tool do I use?

I’m looking for a web based ad-hoc reporting tool, Preferably an Oracle product. Something that once set up and configured (point to a specific database) select users can login into via a browser and build ad-hoc reports. I don’t want to have to create a report then publish it for the end user and especially nothing should need to be installed on any desktop.
Amongst the confusing vast array of oracle BI products: Oracle Reports, BI Publisher, Business Intelligence Server, Interactive Dashboards, Intelligence Answers, Oracle Business Activity, Hyperion Interactive Reporting, Hyperion Web Analysis etc, etc, etc...... there must be what I’m looking for.
If someone could please point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

You can use Interactive Reporting Tool. To use Interactive Reporting you need to install below components
1) Shared Services
2) Reporting and Analysis BI Services
3) Reporting and Analysis UI Services ( includes Interactive Reporting, Financial Reportinig, Web Analysis and Workspace)
To meet you requirement you can perform the below tasks
1) Create an OCE publish the same to Workspace.
2) Give access to user on that OCE.
3) User can create their own reports.

What are hyperion reports?

Iam just wondering what are Hyperion Reports? I mean to say what is called in Hyperion Reports in newer version ?
In reporting and analysis I can see
1. Financial Reporting
2. SQR Production Reporting
3.Interactive Reporting.
So what is Hyperion Reports consists of? all these 3 reporting tools?
And I would appreciate is there any usefull link or file to know what older versions are called in newer version (like Hyperion Aanlyzer is called in newer version Web Analysis).

They are all different reporting tools that you have mentioned which come under the banner of reporting and analysis, these can all be accessed from the workspace.
I always consider hyperion reports to Financial Reporting, it did used to be called hyperion reports.
Web Analysis used to be Analyzer
The rest have kept the name the same.
