Hyperion Reports - automating reports by e-mail

Hi, I have recently upgraded to Hyperion Reports 7.2. I'mrunning on Essbase 6.5.42. Our old version of HyperionReports was 2.6, and I always had problems running reports usingthe batch scheduler, so never used it. I was hoping to beable to use it once we upgraded. While I am able to schedulebatches and have them run successfully now, the e-mailing of thepdf output always fails. Has anyone had this issue? There is really no error message given except to say that itfailed. I don't know if there is some setup that's supposedto take place that is causing this failure or what. Hyperionsupport has, as usual, been no help, so any assistance would begreatly appreciated.

Go to \Hyperion\HyperionReports\lib on your report server, open hr_schedulebatch.properties and change the logging option to DEBUG. You may need to do this for other property files in the folder as well depending on where the source of your problem is. Does any emailing work? You said PDF fails, does HTML email succeed, or can you send a notification email, but not with report attached? Wondering if the issue is the mail settings, or the PDF generator. Simple check is to see if you can manually run a report and select view as PDF and see if it works.

Production Reporting + Automated Report Generation

Hello,
Does anyone know how to genarate reports automatically by using Production Reporting?
The source data is in Essbase and the data on updated monthly. We should get the updated data on the reports automatically but I do not know how to do it?
What tools (HAL, DIM?) and skills (JAVA, SQR) are needed to get data automatically? The creation of a normal report can be made with graphical user interface.

You could set up a dbms_job (unix daemon) to call the report and execute at a given time.
When you call the report then you can pass the parameters without any problem. (with no user intervention)
I don't have any example but you should be able to find a lot of them.

Automated reporting in CSA 5.2???

I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge on whether automated reporting can be setup on CSA 5.2, or if anyone has developed a process that would generate automated reports from the CSA events and alerts and have them e-mailed to say, Network Administrators?

You can configure event sets and use alerts to email them. There are several canned event sets you can use or create your own.
You can configure alerts to use:
Email
SNMP
Log
Custom
Named Pipe

SQL Server Reporting Services Subscriptions - Failure sending mail

Hello All,
I am having a problem with using subscriptions to send my reporting services report by email.
Getting the following error:
Failure sending mail: The message could not be sent to the SMTP server. The transport error code was 0x800ccc6d. The server response was 552 Error: message too large
While browsing for other reports in the report manager(reports created by others staffs), i could find that these reports were sent by email successfully.
So not understanding why mine has a problem. logically it could be that the report is too big?
Anybody has a solution or suggestion?

For first question, we can check the item "IncludeLink" to embed the link in the mail. Or, embed the link the manually by putting a link in the "Comment" field. The URL should be a standard URL Access:
http://<reportserver>/reprotserver?/reportpath&rc:format=<format>
For the second question, you are right. We can follow these setps to work around the issue:
1.Create a file shared subscription, save the export to a shared folder.
2.Create a E-Mail delivery subscription, embed the file's path in the mail. We can set the file's path in "Comment" field of the E-Mail delivery. The path should be someone like this:
\\<sharedfolder>\<export report>
In this case, the exported report's name cannot be dynamic.

SmartView report automation v9.3

Thanks is advance for any help.
I have built automated reports of various types over the years using the Excell Client add-in, Where I am workinf now, they only install Smart View so I am trying to produce the same sort of automated reports with the SmartView vba "Toolkit". However, I am not locating the required dll's and smartview.bas file that the documentation points to: "In Import File, select smartview.bas in \SmartView\bin to declare all functions or just the function you plan to use. "
I have searched both the client and server and am not finding anything.
Can anyone help?

The odd thing is, no smartview folder has been created, yet, smartview is up and running. One note, I am running Windows 7 AND Office 2007, that is why I downgraded to v9.3.1, 11.1.1.3 would not work on my machine.
I will see if I can do this on another machine.

Hyperion Workspace Financial Reporting Export to Excel Query-Ready Missing

Hyperion Workspace Financial Reporting Export to Excel "Query-Ready" option is Missing in the dropdown when you go to File>Export>Excel
Only the "Fully Formatted" option is available.
From what I recall this option for a "query-ready" export should be available from the HTML preview?
Is there something in configuration that needs to be enabled or something that needs to be checked on to get this option?
We are running 11.1.1.3
The Query-Ready option is available when exporting forms in Planning.
When opening Financial Reports in Smartview the option for "Query-Ready" is available.
For some reason this is not showing up in workspace, does it not exist in 11.1.1.3? Is this a bug?

The option to export the financial report output in "Query-Ready" format is actually at the bottom right hand corner of the report page (look at the report footer) instead of File>Export>Excel.

Hyperion SQR Production Reporting and EBS 11i

Hi all,
Is there a way to purchase only "Hyperion SQR Production Reporting", working with Oracle EBusiness Suite (11i) ?
The scope is to migrate Oracle Applications 11.0.3 to 11.5.10.2 (unix platform) including a lot of sqr specific programs (batchs and reports).
-> Instead rebuild them on pl/sql or XML Publisher, we plan to do this by upgrading sqr (actually v4.3.2 running on Oracle 8.0.5).

CMC Automating Reports Question

Greetings and thanks for taking the time to look this over,
I am looking to automate reports in CMC but cannot find a step-by-step guide to do this successfully. Can anyone provide me with directions? If not, here's the problem:
1: When I import a Crystal report and set it to schedule, with an output of PDF and make that schedule reoccurring - the report does not run. The only reoccurring report that is successfully running is one set to reoccur "now."
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am attempting to schedule specific uploaded crystal reports to run on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. This would seem pretty self explanatory, but somehow it's not working. Here's what I do now:
1: Inside the "Automated Reports" folder, I've created subfolders for the various companies that we report for.
2: I've created various user names for each of those companies. For example: The "Blue Company" folder has a "Blue Company" user name.
3: I upload the Crystal Report in question into the "Blue Company" folder.
4: I go into "properties" for the report.
5: In "default settings", I schedule the recurrence for "Daily" with Days(N) = 1, and the start Date/Time with Today's date and the time at 2:00 AM, with an end date 10 years in the future.
6: I try "Scheduling For" either myself or the username created in step 2.
7: Format is changed to PDF.
8: Destination: Changed to Email. From is set from a company email address. To are other confirmed email addresses. Subject is something like "%SI_NAME%%SI_STARTTIME%" and the Specific Name of something like "%SI_NAME%%SI_STARTTIME%.%EXT%"
9: I then Save the report.
I don't see any other steps to take to force the report schedule to take. If I run these reports "now," they usually run fine, but the recurrence part just refuses to work.

Mail Report from Report previewer

I have problem to generate the reports from report previewer.When I tried to generate it gives me an error rep-1249 formual has no value. While on the other hand I can generate from report builder it run fine.

Option 2 is what I have been working on till now & completed System Monitoring setup including CCMS agent (SAPCCM4X & CCMSPING) installation on satellite systems.
The data is visible in DSWP.
Now, our client is a bit overcautious about SAP monitoring & wants the above list of KPI's to be reported every 8 hours, round the clock. Believe it or not we are doing this manually for all Dev, QA & Prod systems!! (Copy-paste to xl & send via mail)
I joined this project few months back & suggested automation of monitoring via SolMan. I have reached so far with this.
What I am not able to make out is how to save the report in DSWP to my desktop & send via mail. Or even better, how to trigger these mails from SolMan itself at specified intervals?
P.S. - We already setup EWA reports to be delivered via mail automatically but that ofcourse in not enough for the client..
CCMS rule based monitors (in Frederico's blog) is new to me & I will dig deeper to see how useful it could be for our case. But again, it should be able to output the report in a format which can be sent to our client!
Please let me know how practical is above requirement, even if we need to involve ABAPer's for it.

Problem printing a report in Report Builder 6

Hi people, I'm experiencing tremendous difficulty when attempting to print a report in Report Builder 6. I've NEVER had this problem before, and it is a bone of contention to our client. Whenever I try to print a report from the report previewer, I get the following error:
"REP-1849: Failed while printing."
This error occurs irrespective of the query's complexity!
Even if I write a simple query such as, "SELECT 'johann' FROM dual", I get the above error. PLEASE help! Failure to test my report (and implement it) is causing a loss of approximately R570,000.00 to the company.

No Program generated after creation of new report via Report Painter

Hello,
I have created a new report after copying an existing report from report painter GRR1. The new report has also been assigned to a new Report Group relevant to the same library.
There is no Syntax error. The only change has been to the Title of the report.
However when I am trying to execute the report nothing happens. ABAP found that no program has been generated by SAP for this mew rpeort. We confirmed this by searching with my user ID in table TRDIR.
However there is no trace of it.
We have tried to execute the report from GRR3 & GR53 (report group). The report & report group is having the same attributes as the old one.
Unless the report is in executable stage we are not able to go to the Selection screen & finally from the Technical Information to the program name.
Please could you let me know what can be the possible cause for this & how can we resolve the same.

@JoeSchmoe115: Thanks for your suggestion. Using a web service or WCF service would still mean dealing with potential timeouts for very large reports (granted you can adjust those timeouts).
I think an approach using a console app could work, but rather than having the web app spawn it, an alternative would be to do the following: (1) have the web app insert report generation requests (including all necessary report parameters) into
a database table, and (2) have a console app, periodically invoked by Windows Task Scheduler, which reads that database table and then uses the SSRS API as you describe to generate the report, save the byte stream to a file, and finally send
the e-mail notification to the user.

What you've described will work but saving report generation requests in separate table may not be necessary. I don't have much experience with web services but can they just spawn C# console app with needed parameters and exit without waiting for console
app to complete?
The positive side of using database to store report generation requests is that you would have complete log of all requests. Your console app can then update database with completion status.
