Hyperion Reports v 2.6 generating/exporting PDF's

I've got Reports installed with a printer and I have Adobe Reader 6--which says it's capable of generating PDF's however on the Reports instsall it's not an option for PDF generation. Does Reports come with a PDF writer or is that something extra that I've got to buy? If it does come with a PDF writer is there something else I have to do to get Reports to generate a PDF?This is the error message I get: Error while saving as PDFCould not find information about PDF generation for instance number: Thanks,Mary Ann

We installed Adobe Acrobat Writer/Distiller on our Reports Server and then pointed Reports to Acrobat for the generation of PDF's.You might want to check on Reader having the ability to generate PDF's, I was not aware Acrobat reader could generate a PDF. It certainly goes against the naming convention (i.e. a reader should only be capable of reading)Good luck.

I'm trying to design a report and need a nudge in the right direction...
The user should select their division and the reports should then display only the base level children of the selected division.
I've tried selecting Functions -
children of current pov for organisation - which gives the next level of the selected org
descendants of current pov - gives all levels below the selected org. (therefore duplicating parent/child levels)
Bottom of Hierarchy - gives all the base level of the whole organisation (rather than just the one selected)
Lists - level 0, organisation - as above, gives level 0 of the entire org
Someone tell me its possible to just get the level 0 of the current pov organisation...it must be something obvious I'm missing!

(level o of Account) Union (descenants of Corp Cost), but the result are still not " level o of Corp cost".
How to get " level o of Corp cost", Corp Cost is one member under "Account" dimension.

Generate & Export PDF on the fly without holding entire pdf contents memory

We are using Crystal Reports JRC (in our server side application. In a typical use-case the generated report is exported into the pdf format and streamed to the client/browser.
My question is with regards to the current interface/implementation of the JRC export api(s), which returns an InputStream which is basically a ByteArrayInputStream?, Why ByteArrayInputStream ? why not a custom InputStream imeplementation which really benefits from the streaming approach, and give you the option to stream the contents as they are generated on the fly, instead of it holding the entire report contents in a byte-array, as is the case with using ByteArrayInputStream. Since, this often seems to choke our system with regards to memory footprint, when the generated report contains huge dataset.
Please comment? Is that not possible ? Is there any reason why ByteArrayInputStream is the only way to retrieve the report contents ?

Empty sqaures[] in exported pdf stream - crystal api

Web application using - CR4E version 2.0.16
Reports design using Crystal Reports 2013
I am exporting crystal report into pdf file format using crystal java api that gets shipped with Crystal reports for eclipse. The exported pdf stream returned by the api is saved in db as blob so that it can be viewed/sent to printer later. If I view the pdf blob saved in db using acrobat reader I can see the pdf is correct.
But when I stream blob data directly to printer using java print service for print jobs and PDFRenderer.jar for PDF print pages, the output is empty sqaure blocks []. All the formatting is intact. I can also see number of rows.
This seems to be the problem for exported pdf's from crystal api's or even if you manually export the pdf from crystal report and save the pdf file from file system in the db.
Other PDF files work fine but not the ones exported from Crystal report.
The font properties of the rpt exported pdf shows the encoding as 'Built-in' while the other pdf files has ANSI or other such encodings. That is the only difference I find between pdfs exported from Crystal and other pdf files.
Can you please tell me how to resolve this?

I am also working on Exporting Crystal report to PDF in java but facing some problem in accessing the database.
The .rpt files are published in Crystal Report Server with DB info like server, database, user, password.
When i am calling from java (Similar to your code), its giving error like JNDI name not found. But i am not using any JNDI binding.
Do i need to configure database details in any configuration files such as CRConfig.xml etc. If yes, can you pass me some sample code.

Hyperion Reports Page Dimension Auto Calc

In Hyperion Reports 7.x, is there a way to create an autocalculation in the page dimension? Similar to rows andcolumns, I would like to create a "grand total" memberwithin my page dimension that is a SUM of any dynamically selectedpagedimension (when prompted to select any multiple members). 1) Click on the top of the column and then go to the column properties pane on the right. Go to the Suppression section and you have a coulpe of choices. You can choose a Basic option and supress if the column Is Zero and/or Missing values. You can also choose advanced options and click the setup button. A new box will open and give you the ability to set criteria for suppressing the column. For instance if member name of product selected is "Product1" supress, otherwise show the column.2) There is no option, I am aware of, to do this. A non-elegant workaround would be to highlight the text on the HTML page, copy and paste it into Excel. The new version of Hyperion Reports 7.2 now supports exporting reports from HTML to Excel with Formating. I'm not sure whether or not that means headings will be exported as well.3) You have to use the grid POV to do this. Move your mouse to the top left corner of your grid, where the rows and columns meet. Right click and select "Grid Point of View Setup...". I cannot help you with anychart but you might want to check J4L FO Designer . It can add charts to PDF reports and also send them as email:

Generating a PDF and then Email it from the report server.....

This is my first post on this forum and I have the following question.....
Please note I am not a DB expert nor a reporting expert but I have done my fair share of reporting using Oracle DB with Oracle Reports or Hyperion.
I have a report that will be posted to the report server that a user can go out and run at there convenience.
As a side note we have recently migrated our Database from ORACLE 8i to 10G and the report was created using Oracle ReportBuilder 10.1.
This report was also mimicked by a Oracle package and emailed out through I believe some PL SQL(?). This is a plain text report in the email.
As I recently did some big changes to the Original report they want this email report to match as well.
Well After looking at what they want in the email its basically the exact same thing as the version the user would see on the web. This seems like a waste of time for myself to edit this Package (For the email report - plaint text) and to have a oracle report available on the web server not to mention the DB dealing with the PLSQL..
So I am asking is there a way to set up Oracle reports to mail a generated PDF or a HTML results file out from the reporting server at a specified time?
If so how is this accomplished?
I see that in the help file in Report Builder that you can set rwbuilder.conf file with the SMTP server but how do I set the email address and the time to run the report.

Maybe I am not understanding something but we have a reporting server where they basically select the report in a drop down web control and they fill in the necessary parameters and then the report is ran.
The web links refer to report builder and how to email from it. I am in a web environment that they select the report and its ran. Is this web form a standard product with Oracle for reporting?
I have seen how to do accomplish my task from the command line. Is this another way of accomplishing this task?
I think what I am also looking for is a confirmation that what I want to do is possible and that someone has accomplished this task before.

Generate a PDF export and getting the file or the bytestream to modify it

I have a web dynpro application and want to get the bytestream or the PDF file itself.
Is there a function (RFC, J2EE-Method, ABAP methode/class) where I can say
"Hey function, generate a PDF export of a BI report and save the PDF file somewhere in the KM or return the bytestream of the PDF"
I must be able to define following parameters
-BI template name
-values for the selection mask (the same as the BEx BI-Commands to prefill a field in the selection mask)
-KM path + filename (if the function saves the file in the KM)
What I already tried:
Broadcast to KM
I can start the broadcast automatically using the report RSRD_BROADCAST_STARTER. But the problem is that I can't generate a broadcast setting and so I'm not able to define the filename and selectionmask data dynamically.
Package RSRD
When you enter the transaction SE80 and look for the package "RSRD" there are a lot of interesting classes and methods. But I couldn't figure out how to call them to generate a PDF export of a BI report.
FM RSADOB_PDFREPORT_GENERATE
This function module have all the parameters I wish. The problem is that it does not work anymore. It's just an internal test for the SAP guys themselves.
So ...
Have anybody an idea how to solve this?
How to generate a PDF export of a BI report and fill the selection mask and get the PDF (as bytecode or file in the KM) ?

Like you said.. steps are simple and clearly mentioned in guide.
1. create a variable of type string
2. after configuring the file adapter , go to corresponding receive activity , go to properties tab
3. search for a property with name as jca.file.FileName . This basically keeps track of file name
4. for this property, give the value as name of variable created in step 1 above
5. Use this variable anywhere in assign / transform

PDF Export: PDF output reported as being non-conforming to Adobe's specs.

According to this error message, it looks like the PDF files generated by Crystal are not compliant with Adobe's PDF specification. I've searched the knowledge base / forums for PDF information but didn't see anything along these lines. The PDF files are viewable through the Acrobat reader.

First place to start with is the designer. Export from there and see if you get the same issue. If you do, create a forum post in the Report Design forum:

If none of the above helps, you will have to try this with CR 2008 (12.x) as CR 10 has been out of support for a number of years and no fixes will be released. If you want, you can share a report with saved data with me and I can do the export using CR 2008. You will then have to try to duplicate the issue in Adobe. Alternatively, you can download CR 2008 eval copy from here;

Hyperion IR BQY job run successful few month but recently failed to export pdf and sending email

Anyone have encountered the problem that the BQY jobs which are running more than 3 years successfully. But recently no one update the report, but the job export keep failing to send result pdf to receivers intermittently.
It shouldn't be BQY job itself problem. Because this job has running years and fine. Only recent days comes out this problem. And user manually run the report can also be successful.
After checking the server log, find out that Hyperion IR retrieved data successfully but export-excel/bqy type file all works except pdf format. And in one week, some day it works fine. Some day it failed.
Trace in workspace job schedule log, it saying:
Emailing section 'xxxxxx' as 'PDF' to:
[email protected]
[email protected]
Export failed with unknown error.
And checked the server_message_IRJobService.log it just saying:
Error in export.[[
And
TCApp::ExecuteJavaScript failed:
We stuck at this error for a period of time. Anyone can help? Oracle Support has mentioned it might be system performance issue. Will keep an eye on this issue, to see any solution can be find.

will test and see if it can solve the problem. For 'Hyperion Framework Service', do you mean 'Reporting and Analysis Framework'?
We only tried increase the parameter of "Job Service" and "Intelligence Service" which called Dynamic Service Properties set to "PROCESS_MEMORY_LIMIT=2500MB". But seems hyperion this 32bit application only can reach to 2047MB.
Our EPM version is 11.1.2.1.600.07.
a. We have increased the memory from 24G to 48G and add more memory for JobService (now it has 2 GB memory).
     For the provided solution.
     Set the filters in the query to return smaller amount of data
     We are still working on, but it seems slightly solve the "Error in export" problem.
b. We have confirmed the SMTP Server configuration is correct. So this solution not fit for our case. As the trouble job has been running more than 3 years, until recent month it starts with this error. And the job failed this error only happens intermittently e.g. Monday,Tuesday,Friday it all works fine(Proved the job it self is OK) but Wednesday some period, it failed to export. So we are thinking it might the hyperion performance issue.
For the KM reference:

We have already read and checked, we do have correct configuration.

XML Publisher Report not generating the PDF output.

I am trying to develop a XML Publisher Report in R12 Vision Instance.
I have developed the rdf report and concurrent program with XML as output format. Ran the concurrent program and I got the XML output. Based on XML output I have created the rtf template. Using both the template and xml output I have created in Data Definition and Template in XML Publisher Administrator Responsibility. Now I am comming to the concurrent program and running the program, here instead of generating the PDF output it is generating again the XML output and concurrent program completing with warning status.
When I am trying to do the same in 11i Vision Instance, Concurrent Program completing with normal status and when trying to view the output it is saying "Unable to Publish output for the Processed Request".
Kindly please help me out in this issue.

Here the concurrent programs are not erroring out. It is completing with Warning status and when we click on View Output the output is coming in XML format instead of PDF, this is in R12 Vision Instance.
In 11i Vision Instance, concurrent program is completing with Normal Status but when we click on View Output it is saying "Unable to Publish output for specified request".

Crystal Reports 10 Enterprise Server Issue - Exporting Large Reports to PDF

Weu2019re implementing a Crystal Reports 10 Server for a customer but weu2019re having an issue with exporting large reports to PDF. The report size that starts to show this issue is roughly 300 pages with 20 records per page. We use the default Crystal ActiveX viewer.
Basically what happens is that the user will launch the report in the ActiveX viewer and the large report will take a while to load, as much as 3 to 4 minutes. The user may then wish to export to PDF. Once they attempt it with these large reports the viewer will basically hang and possibly be processing but will then time-out after roughly 5 minutes with this error:

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /thinqreports/THINQCrystalInterface.asp.
Reason: Error reading from remote server
IBM_HTTP_Server/6.1.0.9 Apache/2.0.47 (Unix) Server at lmsproxy.aurora.org Port 443u201D
We believe this error is coming from a server on our network. We have a proxy server between users and the Crystal Server that has a 5 minute time-out for connections. What we want to know is:
- Is there a way to speed up this export to PDF process?
- Should the Crystal Viewer be keeping an http connection alive to the Crystal Report Server while its doing this export process?
- If not, what port does Crystal Viewer use to communicate with the Crystal Report Server?
- Is there something we can set in Crystal to keep an http connection open?
- What is actually occurring during this export process?
Occasionally, we may get the above error when simply launching a report, not just attempting to export to PDF. We presume that is because loading the report into the Crystal Viewer from the Crystal Report Server is taking longer than 5 min.
Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

As this is happening within Enteprise (and I am assuming the report does not time out in the Crystal Reports Designer) I would suggest posting this to the BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration
forum.
My limited Enterprise knowledge would be to suggest scheduling the report as PDF but I don't know if that is a viable option for you.
