Hyperlink does not open pdf file

I am using reader 9.3 in windows 7 on a new netbook.  After installing reader, my documents open just fine
except when I try and use a hyperlink in a word document to open a pdf, I keep getting a NO PROGRAM IS REGISTERED message.  I have tried the open with selection and made sure the ALL FILES OF THIS TYPE is linked or checked, and the same thing continues to happen.  I have done the repair and reinstall.  Still does not work with a hyperlink.
What is going on?
John Simms

Sounds like a "file association" problem, have you tried different browsers? Also, when you installed the application were there any checkboxes for like firefox (or other browsers) integration? What browser do you use now? Tr reinstalling your internet browser and it will probably work for you.
Best regards
Leif

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • IPRINT 3.0 does not open PDF files from mail apps

I have just installed iPRINT. It finds the printer with no problem (C6180) and I can also load files from the computer to the iPAD on which it is installed. The problem comes when trying to open PDFs from the mail program. There is an option to select open with iPRINT, I do so, and the program opens but the document does not appear. Only the home page of iPRINT. It worked once or twice when I first installed it, but only after screwing around with it.
Can anyone help? It is on an iPAD 1 with iOS 4.3
    Thanks.

Uninstall NWBC , go to REGEDIT --> Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> Expand SOFTWARE node --> Locate SAP -- Delete the Folder NWBC.
    And
    2). Expand HKEY_LOCAL_USER --> SOFTWARE  -> SAP --> NWBC - Delete.
Restart the system and try to install NWBC again and check.
    Thanks,

  • Clicking a .pdf link does not open .pdf file, it opens a SAVE DIALOG box

Recently when I click on a .pdf file link I am no longer able to open the file in a adobe reader either within a FIREFOX webpage or open it using the full adobe program. Instead it opens a SAVE dialog box requesting me to save to my harddrive. I am not sure what has happened and am trying to find someone who might know what is going on?

You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

  • Firefox does not open PDF file. IE can open the file.

I am on a National Parks Service site and want to open a brochure. It is a PDF file. When I select the file nothing happens. If I open it in a new tab I get a blank screen. The site is good because I can open it with IE.

In firefox: Tools -> Options -> Applications->PDF Document...Select: Use Acrobat Reader & press OK
it opens in adobe acrobat reader in main application, not in browser... This is my preffered action :)
    That is it ;)

  • Safari does not open PDF files

For some reason, Safari decided to download PDF files instead of opening them. I have trashed my safari.plist file and still nothing. I have uninstalled Acrobat Reader and trashed all the files associated with it, including the PDFviewer plug-in. How do I fix this?

I had similar problems and the problem was solved as a side effect of my solving a scanner printer problem. I have an HP all in one (8500) and never could get the scanner to work properly. I called HP and they walked me through uninstalling and then going file by file through different folders to delete stray files that didn't uninstall with the uninstaller.
I then installed the new drivers and all my HP printer functions worked. Next time I opened a PDF with Safari it opened within the application and worked perfectly. Everyone is talking about an adobe conflict (which I also experienced earlier) but if getting rid of adobe plug-ins doesn't work maybe its printer related ... worked for me.

  • My Firefox does not open pdf files on websites - is this a setting in Firefox that I can change to allow this ?

Lately I am finding more and more sites with pdf documents that I am prevented from opening when I use the link to them. It appears to go to the link but only loads a black screen. When I press reload it becomes a white screen but nothing else. Is this something within Firefox or could it be a firewall or security issue on my computer. The links and documents open properly with Internet Explorer.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 does not open pdf on web

I have just done a clean installation of Win Vista Home Premium, and put CS4 on it. I always throw out a lot of links and programmes that come with a re-install, but may have thrown out too much this time: Acrobat Pro 9.1.3 opens pdf's just fine as long as they are on my hard disk. It does not open pdf files on web sites.
I remember trying to delete the link to Acrobat.com that has nestled itself at the top of "All Programs". Its icon has dissapeared, but otherwise it seems ok. It seems unlikely that that has anything to do with my not being able to open pdf's on the web, but I mention it anyway.
Anybody any ideas and remedies? Thanks.

I just realised the same pdf on the web is opened properly by Acrobat Pro when the site is open in IE. It does not work in Firefox 3.5.2, however.
I pointed in Firefox Tools > Options > Applications the application to open pdf's to Acrobat 9.1 . It does work now, but in a rather weird fashion: Acrobat seems to sort of swirl into my Firefox window. Never mind, the pdf's do open.

  • Safari does not open pdf

Just began to notice that Safari does not open PDF files anymore.  PDF's do not automatically download either.  One solution I checked was to removed anything with PDF from internet plugins in LIBRARY, but I have none.  I was directed to install Adobe Reader. I already have Acrobat Pro installed.  Shouldn't preview be what is needed to view PDF?  Sugestions?

What I ended up doing was to to follow these dirs:

    Hi,
I also installed Adobe Reader because an ebook I downloaded wouldn't open without it.
I then chose Adobe Reader as my default. When I later uninstalled it using the Trash Me app-which usually clears everything out-I couldn't get Preview back as the default.
I went to the "Library/Internet plug-ins" path and trashed the two Adobe Reader plug ins that were there. I used Secure Empty Trash, and then shut down completely and did not check the box to reopen any windows. Then I restarted the Mac.
I not only shut down Safari, I closed all applications and shut down the Mac completely being sure to uncheck the "relaunch with windows open" button. When I turned the Mac back on, I opened Safari and went to an online PDF that I had been trying to open previously to test the app. It opened this PDF using Preview and showed it in Safari.
I then tested using a PDF from my files and it opened in Preview.
    Quit Safari.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type of copy / paste:   /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Click Go then move the Adobe PDF Browser plugin from the Internet Plug-Ins folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari to test.
This worked for me and Safari now reads PDFs as is always did.

Make sure you have the latest Adobe Reader installed for your OS.

Did you try using Preview. If you control click on the PDF on your desktop you can use the "open with" option.

  • Why does my Acrobat IX not open PDF files created with my Adobe CreatePDF application?

My Acrobat IX will not open PDF files that I create with my Adobe CreatePDF application

Thanks for answering ... Long answer sorry ... recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7.  With XP I could create PDFs with/for any document I created ... I think the XP App was Acrobate Complete as well as I could print directly to a PDF file. In any case, I was always able to creat PDFs.  Since upgrading to Windows 7, I lost my ability to create PDF files by conversion or by printing directly to PDF format. Therefore, I purchased the Adobe CreatePDF application from Adobe for about $100.  However all Adobe CreatePDF files have a different screen icon and my Acrobate XI supplied with my new Windows 7 intsall does nor recognize the Adobe CreatePDF created files. I am guessing but I suspect the Adobe CreatePDF app is creating Postscript print files and not Windows compatible print files.  I would like to tell Adobe about this Bug or failure, but it seems I am unable to contact Adobe directly and talk/chat with a human.

    Hello waitingone,
please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
    1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
    2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
    3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
    4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
    5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
    6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
    7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.
    Good luck!

  • Could not open PDF Files with Safari using Lion - Solution

    Two for one solution:
After installing Lion on my Macbook Pro, I could not open PDF files on line via Safari and iPhoto 11 kept crashing.
Well, the solution for bothy problems was to remove the "3ivx" file.
The easiest way to do so is go to Applications > 3ivx folder > run Remove 3ivx app.
    OR:
Finder > Library folder > Application Support folder > drag "3ivx" folder to trash and trash.

Does Safari - Help - Installed Plug-ins show anything for pdf other than WebKit built-in PDF ?

This may because the attachment is a winmail.dat file. I would recommend taking a look at the article below for more information. Note: the article is written for OS X mail, but does also apply to this situation.
