Hyperlink in Captivate Course Closes LMS Window

Has anybody run into this problem before?  I created a short course in Captivate 5.5.  Just a few slides so that users can link to and open a long video we have housed on a hosting service.  When I preview the course in Captivate, the link works fine.  The website opens and I can run the video.  But, when I publish the course to our LMS (HealthStream) and try to link to the video, the LMS window closes immediately without going to the website.  This could very well be an LMS problem, but I am getting desperate and hoping somebody else has run into this problem with HealthStream or another LMS.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the link set to open the video link in a new blank browser session or in the same browser?
One thing to be aware of here is that SCORM courses were not originally designed (according to the SCORM standard) to link outside of the module for other content.  They're supposed to be totally self-contained units of learning.  By linking outside the SCORM module and opening other windows you can run the risk of interrupting the communication with the LMS via the SCORM API.  This might be why your LMS is terminating the session.  It might interpret your link to the video on the hosting service as a sign you've finished viewing the module.
If the hosted video is FLV or F4V, have you tried streaming it into the Captivate module as Slide Video instead of opening it in another browser session?

  • No Audio in internet explorer, captivate playbar close button not working

I did a simulation video in adobe captivate 5.5, on uploading it to Netdimension s LMS, the course plays audio via firefox but wont play audio from Internet explorer.
Also Firefox autoresumes from where the user last stops but won't in Internet explorer. Also the exit button in my captivate playbar doesnt work neither in my internet explorer browser nor firefox.
I also noticed that the LMS didnt mark the course completed after taking all the slides.
    Please help!

    Hi there
My guess is that you are opening those from version 3 in a different manner than you are the version 4 sims. As I understand it (and as explained in the link) the ability to close a window is dependent on the browser as well as the manner in which the window was opened to begin with.
I suggest you begin by scrutinizing what is different about the version 3 files that you are seeing. Where are you running them from? How are you displaying them?

  • LMSInitialise error from ADL  when launching captivate course

    hi
I have seen several users talking about getting LMSInitialise error when launching course using ADL SCORM 1.2 test suite
We are also getting the same errors. We use same setup to test our otehr SCORM conformance pkgs. So I dont think its a set up problem
We are using captivate 4.0, on windows xp. SCORM 1.2 comformance test passes fine. And course launches fine too. Just gives LMSInitialise error
    Any help

This issue can probably be solved by changing your Flash player security settings:
Get some Flash content playing in your browser. Any Flash animation will do. Go e.g. to www.adobe.com.
Right-click on the animation, you will get the Flash context menu. SelectSettings.
You will get a little menu.
Click the Advanced button. This will bring you to an Adobe Web site.
In the table of contents on the left, click Global Security Settings Panel. This will show you a panel.
Add the location where your ADL TestSuite software is installed to the trusted locations. The location of the TEST SUITE software, not the location of your zip file or your content files. Those get copied automatically to a TestSuite subfolder when you run the test.
Close all your browser windows and re-run the test.

  • Closing a Captivate course in Firefox

    Happy Friday everyone...
Okay, here goes...I have courses that have been published to
Cornerstone (LMS). I believe that they were published with the full
screen option selected. Anyway, the designer didn't include the
exit option on the playback controller. When the courses are
launched, there is no way to exit the course. Does anyone know if
there is a short key combination that can be used on a Linux
operating system with Firefox browser to close a window? I tried
using ctrl+shift+w and it wouldn't work.
    Thanks,

This list of keyboard shortcuts should help:-

Looks like Alt+F4 does it, same as in Windows.

  • Still struggling with Captivate 6, Oracle LMS and SCORM 2004

Still can't get this course tracking with scores.  Herewith the screen shot.  Does anyone know if the settings I have chosen for the quiz are correct.  When I load the published course into the lms and test it, it shows "not attempted" prior to opening it and it gives the final score on the last quiz slide.  There is a slide after the last quiz slide.  It still seems not to transfer the scores to the lms.  I recently found out that we have Scorm 2004 version 4, so I changed the configuration setting as it was defaulted to version 3, but that still hasn't helped with the scores.  Under the start and end settings, I have chosen close project for the end.   I have been through a week of torture with this course!  Please can anyone assist as I'm not sure what to do anymore!

Oh no.  Now I'm panicking!  I will try it.  Thanks

This sounds like you have some major issue in this course project file.
Breaking it up into smaller files might not fix your issue.
I suggest you create a new blank CPTX project file, add one true/false quiz question, set it to report to LMS with the settings you have above, publish as a single SCO package zip file, and upload to both your LMS and SCORM cloud.
If this file doesn't even work, your installation of Captivate would have to be suspect and nothing you do in course module is going to fix that until you work out what the problem is.  If this very simple single-SCO lesson plays OK and reports successfully to the LMS, then we need to figure out what is lacking in your current file.
It could be that your current file has somehow become corrupted.  See the suggestions here for how to debug general corruption issues:

  • How do I really and completely close a window/tab ???

We are using APEX 4.0.1, starting to work with SSO.
I have set up a main application (App A) to call another APEX application (App B) via a link (link-to-App-B) on the Navigation bar in App A (Target Type:URL, Target URL: https://ourappservername.ourdomainname.net:4458/pls/htmldb/f?p=126" target="_blank"). My browser is set to open new windows in a new window, and not a new tab.
After I am done with App B I click on a 'Logout' link on the Navigation bar for App B, and it (Target Type:URL, Target URL: javascript:window.close();) closes the window as expected (or, closes the tab on the window if other tabs were opened). This is exactly the behavior that management wants for logging out.
However, if my, or any user, browser was set to open new windows in a new tab instead of a new window (or if a user were to right-click on the link and select 'Open Link in New Tab') and I clicked on the link-to-App-B link, App B would be opened in a new TAB in the window that App A is in. IF the 'Logout' link on the Navigation bar for App B is clicked on, THEN instead of closing the tab that App B resides in as I would like, the app just sits there.....laughing at me (figuratively speaking).
Is there any way I can set up a Navigation bar entry such that it will close the application in both scenarios - whether the app is in a new window or in a new tab????
    TIA,
    Thomas

    Trent,
Unless I am missing something...I right-clicked on the link, and opened a new tab at the page titled "Closing tab instances or single-tab windows not opened by javascript" and tried (clicked) each of the four buttons labeled 'Close this window...". However, not one of the four actions ended up closing the tab that the page was in.
I am testing under Firefox 3.6.10 on both Windows and Ubuntu Linux. We use Firefox a lot here. I saw a lot of postings that Firefox has issues with the developer trying to close a tab/window. Basically it was a design decision that was done for 'security' reasons. I am still not too certain why it was considered a security concern, since if I can not close a tab and then end a session, I am left with taking the user to a logout page with no links on it at all and trying to find a way to disable the Back button in Firefox to prevent someone from going back into an application that was logged out (some PCs are common and shared).
However, just to see if there was a difference, I opened the link you referenced in MS IE 8.0 (on Windows of course), and the 1st 3 buttons prompt me to ensure I wanted to close the tab, and the fourth just closed the tab.
    Bummer....
Thank you for your thoughts, I'll keep looking...
    Thomas

  • Setting track for a captivate course

Does anyone know if you can set up "tracks" for a captivate course in the LMS.
I have a course with a lesson that is only applicable to certain group of learners and we dont want the rest of the company to view that information.
Our LMS does have the capability to set up tracks for courses created directly in the LMS system, but I originally created the course using captivate instead.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If it is critical that one role does NOT see what the other role should see (e.g. for security reasons) then you need to have three separate versions of the course and set up your LMS to determine which role the person belongs to so that the only choice they get is the one appropriate for them.  Most LMSs allow you to configure role-based learning this way.  You add people to the roles set up in the LMS and that controls the learning options they see.
Doing what I suggested in Captivate is really just a way to have slightly personalised content for different roles inside the same project file.  But the downside is that when you get to the quiz, everyone has to do the same questions, otherwise your quiz score can never be 100%.  Then you'd need to resort to using a target for points scored instead of a percentage out of 100.

  • How to recognise that user wants to close vi-window?

    Hello,
i have VI with a while-loop. The loop can be stopped by pressing a true/false-Button on the front-panel.
If the user closes the Vi-Window by clicking on th cross [X] in the topper right  (the standard
button next to minimize, maximize) the the loop is of course also stopped.
Is it possible to get this [X]-cklick and NOT to close the window but doing something in the VI
after knowing that the [X] was clicked?
    Thanks for your help.

The "event Filter Node" which in fact contains the "discard" option
will only show up for filter events. these are marked by a red arrow
infront and, at least in LV 7.1, a "?" behind the event-name. "normal"
notify events have green arrows and no "?" in the end.

  • Error when launching a SCORM course in LMS

I've been publishing SCORM courses from Captivate to my LMS (Training Partner) for several years without any problems.  I recently upgraded to CP 6 (6.0.1.240) and now when I launch the module from my LMS I get a message that says:
Does anyone have an idea as to what might cause this?
    Thanks for your help!!

I have Training Partner (Geometrix) LMS installed - been using this one for over four years.
    My workflow is:
    1. Publish Captivate module to a folder with SCORM reporting enabled
    2. Copy the published folder to the LMS content web server
    3. Create course in LMS configured for SCORM reporting
    4. Link for course module points to the .htm file in the course folder
I've used this approach without any issues up until I installed CP6.  Now I get the error message on modules published with SCORM reporting enabled.  The message does not appear when LMS reporting is not selected.

  • When I am downloading anything from any website in firefox and if I close main window of firefox, the downloading file also gets stops and crashes.

example, I was downloading 74 mb file and as soon as I close firefox window my 74 mb file was downloaded to that size upto which it has been downloaded say 1 Mb for example..

You can set the pref browser.download.manager.quitBehavior to 2 on the about:config page.<br />
That will make Firefox ask for confirmation if you want to cancel the download if you close Firefox.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.download.manager.quitBehavior
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • How do I open with one click all the windows that I have been minimized? When I right click on the lower bar Firefox icon, I only see the option to close all windows.

It is used to be that I could right click on the Firefox icon on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and I would then be given the option to open all windows. Now I only see the option to close all windows. The ability to open all windows is very useful. Have you eliminated this capability? It was a very helpful feature because I often have more than 15 windows minimized at one time. On a regular basis I like to open them all and keep only the ones that I still need. I know that it is possible to see the name of each window that is minimized by moving my cursor over the Firefox icon, but this does not provide enough information. So I have to open each window one at a time to look at it and then decide to close it or keep it - this is a frustrating, time-consuming process. Is there another way to open all the minimized windows at the same time, instead of one at a time?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
    See:
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firewalls
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
    * Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
    * Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.

  • Firefox closes existing window when you open and close a new window

When I'm using firefox and need to open a new window (or a website opens a new window) and I'm done with that new window and close it, Firefox attempts to also close the previous window that I am using. I've tried reinstalling, but other than that I don't know what to do. What usually happens when I close the window is that I have multiple tabs open in the other one and it asks me if I would like to close all my tabs. When I hit cancel, it asks me again. Once I hit cancel the second time it stops bothering me.

I thought it was doing that also. But I found that if I start a new chat with someone I was messaging before, then the old messages re-appear in the messages window.

If I have opened up a link and it comes up as a separate window and not a tab, then I go to close that window, all the other Firefox windows that are open will close too. Is there anything to prevent this? It is extremely annoying when I have to go and open all the windows/tabs again!
