Hyperlink to a FTP address

I would like to create a hyperlink to a ftp site to have access to files. This does not appear to be possible. When the url is created it inserts http:// in the beginning of the address. In order for the link to work it needs ftp:// at the beginning. Anybody have a solution?

You can't do that. The only thing you can do with external links is create a link to another website.
It is also for security reasons too that you cannot access a server in this way and you would also need a username and password as well as the ftp name to be able to access a server, so it is not possible to do this.
If you want to share files then there are plenty of file sharing options that you can use on a Mac. You can share them on MobileMe and there are other options for file sharing too.
What you want to do cannot be done.

How do you HYPERLINK a web page address to an EXCEL document in Firefox like is possible in Explorer?

When you follow a hyperlink in Excel, usually it should open in your default browser. You shouldn't have to do anything special in Excel to create the link when Firefox is your default browser compared with IE. However, the Insert Hyperlink dialog might work differently. I think it might be able to automatically pre-populate a URL from IE, while in Firefox, you need to copy the URL from Firefox's address bar and paste it into the Insert Link dialog.

  • Error message when trying to connect to an FTP address

I am trying to connect to an FTP address. When I use Finder > Go> Connect to server... and type in the FTP address I want and click on "connect", I get an error message:
The operation cannot be completed because one or more required items cannot be found (Error code -43)
What could this mean? I automatically get all updates.
Thanks everyone, Mike Storer, Los Angeles.

This article may help explain the Error -43
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107032
Even though the article is about connecting to an SMB share, most of it can still hold true when connecting via FTP.
If you haven't yet, you may want to try using a 3rd party FTP application, such as CyberDuck http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14426

  • Trouble with iweb SEO tool publishing to FTP address

Trying to publish using SEO tool to my FTP address and nothing happens in the status bar. I selected the folder to upload and choose the right server folder but no go. Any suggestions. Do I need to go on my host and clear out the publishing folder first? Also, do people recommend iWeb SEO tool over iMAP? I know SEO is free so I am trying that first. I use I tweak to add in google analytics so not sure how that works with SEO tool? Do I need to run iTweak and then iWeb SEO then publish? Thanks again.

I just tested it with a section of a website and it uploaded fine. Its going to depend on the size of your site files.
Are you using the latest V 1.3?
It's the first time I've tested the built in FTP as I usually add the meta stuff and then optimize before uploading. It doesn't seem to take any longer than the other FTP applications I use.

  • Why doesn't iCloud retain hyperlinks or live URL addresses in iCloud contacts?

Why doesn't iCloud retain hyperlinks or live URL addresses in contacts?
    Hardware/Software Setup Scenario:
PC with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 7 Pro at home for which all ISP (Cox Communications) e-mail is integrated with Microsoft Outlook 7. New Apple iPhone 4S linked to MS Outlook Contacts, Calendars, Tasks (Reminders) and Notes via iCloud. All e-mail bypasses iCloud (not needed).
    Problem:
When initially migrating Microsoft Office 7 Contacts to Contacts in iCloud, Outlook creates a new folder named "Contacts in iCloud," which does synchronize quickly with your iCloud Contacts folder (in Outlook) on your computer at home and your iPhone when you're on the road. That is a great thing to have, and it works well for my calendar, which constantly changes. The unfortunate predicament is that there are some major problems that occur when you convert your Contacts records to iCloud as follows.
My Contact Notes in Microsoft Office 7, which contain rich formatted text, Microsoft program hyperlinks and live URL addresses (web sites, email addresses, etc.) are all lost because iCloud converts all of it into basic text, rendering the entire Contact Notes box useless. The only way to note a hyperlink is to go back to the web site or email address (if you still have it) and copy the properties in plain text into your notes -- not a reasonable solution.
An additional problem seen when moving Outlook Contacts to Contacts in iCloud is that the Contact Notes in the new "Contacts in iCloud" are systematically affected by sporadically dropped spaces between words requiring a manual or spell check "cleanup" of every contact -- not reasonable for a folder of approximately 1,000 contacts.
I have also found that importing my Outlook Contacts into iCloud empties the Outlook "Contacts" folder. Once you have created your new "Contacts in iCloud" folder, the Outlook contacts are gone for good, unless you want to retrieve them from a backup file. The problem is that Outlook will only allow one of these two Contact folders for use; so you’re faced with choosing between syncing your Outlook Contacts manually between your iPhone on iTunes using the USB cable connected to your computer -- not reasonable for someone on the move; or, transfer your contacts to iCloud live with worthless notes for your contacts.
Can anyone suggest a better work around?

I'm replying to myself here, but just in case someone else has this problem: I uninstalled the Avery Toolbar and iCloud works on by browser once again. I don't know why or how Avery Toolbar makes a difference, but apparently, it does.  If anyone knows how or why, I'd be interested.

  • FTP_COMMAND in order to get files list at FTP address

    Hi all.
I want to get a list of files exist at a specific FTP address.
For that I'm using FTP_CONNECT (OK) and after I want to execute FTP_COMMAND with parameter command = 'ls' in order to recievce the files list in output table data[].
I keep on getting an exception 3 (data_error).
    Anyone can help please ?
    Thanks,
    Rebeka

    Hello,
I know by experience the ABAP programmers learn most based on examples.
In every SAP system you have the following FTP example programs, analyze the source code and check how function modules like FTP_CONNECT and FTP_COMMAND work :
    RSFTP002                         Execute FTP Command
RSFTP003                         FTP put / get Test
    RSFTP004                         FTP Copy
    RSFTP007                         Test FB:FTP_SERVER_TO_R3 / FTP_R3_TO_SERVER
    RSFTP008                         Test FB:FTP_CLIENT_TO_R3 / FTP_R3_TO_CLIENT
RSFTP009                         Test FTP put with Verify
    RSFTP011                         FTP Copy
    Success.

  • Can't access my FTP Address for publishing (Dreamweaver & GoDaddy)

I am attempting to publish a website for a class I am taking. When I go into the "Site" tab and try to manage the site and server using an FTP, I continually get an error message that reads, "An FTP error occurred - cannot open server folder austinwa1/. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem." I am using GoDaddy for hosting and used their cPanel as I was instructed by their "help," but it doesn't seem to have helped at all. I thought I had the correct FTP address, usernamen and password but something is not right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

austinwa1 is not a valid root directory with GoDaddy. GD uses either public_html (linux) or httpdocs (windows) as the root directory, depending on the server type you have. Wordpress and the old classic control panel versions are different still, but usually you're going to have Linux or Windows...
What is my website's root directory? | GoDaddy Help | GoDaddy Support
If you are planning to use austinwa1/ as your site root (forcing you to use www.yourdomain.com/austinwa1 as the homepage of your site) you will still need to have either public_html or httpdocs in front of austinwa1 in your server root directory field in order to connect using DW. So, in your FTP settings, you'll likely need either...
    /public_html/austinwa1
    or
    /httpdocs/austinwa1

  • HT204150 Why doesn't iCloud retain hyperlinks or live URL addresses in contacts?

Why doesn't iCloud retain hyperlinks or live URL addresses in the iCloud address book imported from Internet Explorer 7 to my iPhone 4S?

I do have both of those, but only iCloud shows up in my Contacts sidebar, and addresses are being sent there so I guess it's the default. Funny how this stuff is all so murky.
    Not murky at all:
And as the On My Mac account does not show then it is empty. (It's visible if it is the default or if it has any content)

  • Hyperlink to server network address NOT http address

    Hi,
I'm trying to use a hyperlink in my form, but I want to link to a server.
    The server address is
    \\dahlingroup.com\plfiles\Jobs
and it's an internal server, but everytime I click it, the form tries to link to a File on my computer.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

    Geo,
I believe for a UNC path you would need 4 /'s, otherwise it will try to render the path relative to the local system root.
    file:////server/share/folder/file.ext

  • Linksys wrt1900ac - FTP address constanty changing - it makes me mad!

    Hi there!
I activated the FTP server. All works well, BUT:
How can I stop the router from constantly changing his FTP server address? It is at first 79.222.11.35:21 then after some days 79.222.18.68:21 and so on.
Every other day it is different, which means it is problematic to work with. This behaviour is costing me lots of nerves and brings lots of trouble. I have shares for clients on the harddrive that's attached to the wrt1900 and I myself can't access the data when I need it.The irony is - I bought the router because ofits internal FTP server function, but now - it is unusable.
Any idea how I can stop this?
    regards
PS: I don't know if this is relevant: The harddrive is powered by USB and goes into sleep mode when not used - I like this behaviour.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The newest firmware release doesn't open the FTP Server to the WAN (Internet) side of the router. The previous firmware had a security problem where when FTP was enable all the files were available in the Internet side without security.
The IP Address that you posted is a public ip address (Internet side) and normally you would access the FTP server from your wan using the Links displayed in the router FTP Server section.
The public ip address you get from the ISP is dynamic which means it changes. You can purchase a static ip address from the ISP that never changes. Another option is to sign up with a DDNS service to work with your public dynamic ip address.
I'm concerned you might be running the older firmware.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • How do i publish to an ftp address on iweb?

    Hi, Please help.
I was publishing via iweb on my usual domain which is www.haniahomar.com, but after the icloud move, my iweb ceased to publish. I dont know how to fix this problem? My portfolio is there.. i need the site back up!
i tried publish to a folder but it gives me an address that looks like its on my systen not on the internet. (file:///Users/haniah/Sites/www.haniahomar.com/Home.html)
    Please help me.

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, you will need to find a 3rd party web host. I personally use IX Webhosting and have been happy with them for several years now.
Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder

  • Nautilus cannot handle FTP addresses

    Hello, Forum!
On my Desktop machine, running Ubuntu 9.04, I am able to be able to use the 'Places > Connect to server' option to seamlessly log onto FTP and SSH servers, with Nautilus opening them as normal folders.
Arch is running on my recently-bought Acer Aspire One (a netbook), as I had been looking on installing Arch for some time now.
Unfortunatly, when I type my credentials into the 'Connect to server' options, Nautilus sends me to Firefox, with the following address:
file:///root/.gvfs/ftp as user on server/ (With user and server correctly matching my info.)
It displays, but do not allows me to edit files as if they were local, among other niceties.
After some research on the Wiki and on the Web, I thought the problem was either GVFS or FUSE. I've installed FUSE and set it in /etc/rc.conf, and I think GVFS is installed as Firefox correctly handles the mentioned address.
    Am I missing something?
    Thank you in advance

JGC wrote:Why do you use nautilus as root btw?
That was going to be my next thread, hehe.
The problem is that some things I installed as root aren't correctly appearing under my personal user, which I created through adduser.
While some things are annoying not to have but not strictly necessary, there are things I can't work without, such as my Internet. And I can only use network-manager under root, for some reason.
This probably has to do with the way I set up my wifi. This is my first time with a mobile device, and I don't have any experience with wifi, so, as we say here in Brazil, I was more lost than a blind man in a drive-by shooting.
I do know you shouldn't use your computer as root, as doing this could eat one's first born child and stuff, but right now I just need to work, and as it doesn't directly affects my productivity, I'm coping with it until I finish this project.
If you do have some insight onto why that's happening I'd be glad, though

  • Trouble hyperlinking my e-mail address

HI, on my site I have a link to my email address. I recently changed servers to my incoming mail and now the link dosent work. Any segestions? Thanks

You should contact your Host's tech support about this.
What I do is set up an email forward so that [email protected] gets forwarded to [email protected] which is added as a new account in Mac Mail.
This saves you going into your hosting account to read emails.

  • What is my ftp site address?

I need to give an address for my public folder to a non- Mac (non- .mac) user. I have done it before, but not lately. Where do I find that address?

Hi Michael, if it's on the Local network look in system preferences>Sharing select file sharing and click options. Select "share files and folders using FTP" and it will tell you the ftp address below that once it's checked.
