Hyperlinking between pdfs to page destinations

I need to submit to a court two pdfs one hyperlinked to the other.  One contains references to specific pages in the other.  Being relatively new to this type of work, I followed the instructions, 1) using the hyperlink tool and 2) trying with the snapshot tool.  The snapshot will hyperlink to the desired file but I don't know how to get it to go to a specific destination (marked as each page in the target document).  With the hyperlink tool, it all looks good until I click on the hyperlink it either goes no where or to the link menu box.  Is there someone out there who can help me link between two documents specifically to pages of the target document?   Thank  you.  Sara

Hi Sara,
I had this same question a few weeks ago, and after a good amount of research, concluded that it's not currently possible to link to a specific spot in a pdf from another pdf.  However, it's possible to do that from a web page.  I was able to do a workaround solution in this manner that made everyone happy.  Here's the most complete set of info I found on the options for the pdf link: http://www.rdpslides.com/psfaq/FAQ00050.htm
good luck!

  • Differences between PDF (Interactive) and PDF (Print)

What are the main differences between PDF (Interactive) and PDF (Print)?
Now it seems to me that PDF (Interactive) is limited version of PDF (Print).
Any links to read about this topic?
    Thank you in advance,
    Mykolas

There's actually quite a few differences between (Interactive) and (Print).
Here's a list of pointers written by Michael Ninness (previous product manager of InDesign and now working at Lynda.com) http://www.lynda.com/michaelninness
I just got premission from him to post this (Thanks Michael!):
Here is some info for you regarding what choices are being made under the hood when you choose File > Export > Adobe PDF (Interactive).
Things that just happen or are included, with no choice in the dialog box:
Hyperlinks, Bookmarks, Fast Web view, Compress Text and Line Art, Crop Image Data to Frames.
Things that are not included, with no choice in the dialog box:
Visible Guides/Grids, Hidden and Non-Printing Layers, Hidden and Non-Printing Objects, Marks & Bleeds, No Ink Manager or Simulate Overprint options.
    Things that you can choose:
Security Settings, Embed Page Thumbnails, Create Tagged PDF, Create Acrobat Layers, Initial View, Initial Layout, Open in Full Screen Mode, Page Transitions, Image compression and resolution.
    Other:
    Fonts: Subset 100%
    Color Conversion: Destination
    Destination: sRGB
Profile Inclusion Policy: Include Destination Profile
    Transparency Flattener: No Flattening
And lastly, Compatibility is set to Acrobat 9 (PDF 1.7). This last point is important, and largely explains the main reason we split Interactive PDF out as a separate export choice from Print PDF. When you export an interactive PDF from CS5, included media is now written out to the Rich Media Annotation Layer, which means this content is played back via the embedded Flash Player within Acrobat Pro 9 or Adobe Reader 9 or higher. In previous versions, this content was written out to the Screen Annotation Layer, which meant this content was played back via QuickTime. This has been a long-standing headache for end users as playback across platforms was often inconsistent, would frequently break when Apple updated QuickTime, etc.
Lastly, if you want to include rich media in your interactive PDFs (SWFs, audio and video), the only formats supported if you want to target Adobe PDF (Interactive) are MP3 for audio and FLV for video. Other file formats will need to be converted to these formats before you export to Interactive PDF. For video files, you’ll be able to convert to FLV with Adobe Media Encoder. For audio files, you can use any number for free audio conversion tools, including iTunes.

  • Hyperlinks between RH projects linked with FM books

HI, I want to link multiple framemaker books to robohelp and use each book as a child project in a master project. However, there are multiple hyperlinks between the framemaker books. I have created individual RH projects, and linked a single book to each project.  I generated them all into a master project (as usual), but the hyperlinks between the projects (that worked fine between the PDFs generated from the original Framemaker books) are broken in the output. I check the html of the hyperlinks in RH, and while the text is recognized as a hyperlink, the href tag is missing.
Note: All links with target and destination in the same book / project work fine.
I could create a single book containing all these books, and then link this book to FM, and this would probably avoid the issue, but it wouldn't be a good solution as I would then have  workflow / source control issues.  Also, I would obviously prefer not to have to manually repair the links in RH, due to time contstraints.
    Any suggestions?

How long a path length are you looking at for the linked FM documents? It turns out that RH is very sensitive to the length of the paths that make up the cross-references in FM when turning them into hyperlinks in RH.

Instead of cross-posting unformatted code you could have taken a look at the API, because there you might have come across a method named getLinks...Even though it's not documented, I really suspect that it will return the Hyperlinks on a given page.

  • I have a godaddy website with a welcome page- I need help adding a few additional pages with a hyperlink to my welcome page.

I need help attaching a few hyperlinks my godaddy welcome page. I have 2 more ipages articles, I also converted them to pdf. Godaddy only helped (last year) with the 1st article.  I do not know how to attach a hyperlink to the artlcles and add the hyperlinks to my welcome page.

The program is called Pages not iPages. Just let us know if you do not speak English and what language you do speak so we can adjust for that.
The issues are to do with your web page not with Pages.
I think you are asking how to link from your web page to your pdf articles. You must first copy those pdfs to your web server, or some other web location, and then provide html links on your welcome page to those pdf files.
The pdfs themselves may contain links to other locations but I can not see that that is what you are asking for.
Nor to what those links would be to.
From your heading I think you may have confused the name of Pages, the word processing program, with web pages which are two different things.

  • Preserving hyperlinks in pdf conversion

I am using Acrobat Pro 9 to convert a MS PowerPoint document to a pdf.
The PowerPoint doc has 45 hyperlinks to a web page with anchors to go to particular positions on the page (e.g. #place at the end of the hyperlink)
When I convert to pdf, the anchor part is dropped from the hyperlink.
I can edit the pdf to add the link information back but this is very time consuming.
I am using XP Pro SP2 and PowerPoint 2007.
Adobe's online support has been less than helpful in helping me to resolve this problem. 12 replies to date with little or no useful information.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I am using the Acrobat PDFMaker Add-in from the PowerPoint toolbar.
    Typically this is what happens:
Links in PowerPoint are typically like this - http://www.apuc-scot.ac.uk/team.htm#mcaithness
When I convert to pdf using the PDFMaker the link is  - http://www.apuc-scot.ac.uk/team.htm
The anchor part #mcaithness is dropped.

  • Are Hyperlinks in PDF fixed yet?

Hello, I've refrained myself from upgrading to pages 5 for almost a year now. The last time I tried it I found out that when I have hyperlinks used for navigation in my file that I then want to export into PDF the navigation is not working. For example a table of contents that on click scrolls to the appropriate chapter, when exported to PDF the table of contents is not functioning.
I would like to know if this bug has been addressed or if it is still persistent.
    Looking forward to your replies,
    JB.

The only hyperlinks still supported in Pages v5.5.1 (current) are web, and email. The only Pages intra-document hyperlink is the page number in the table of contents.
Web and email hyperlinks survive export to PDF. Table of contents page links do not.
It would be a surprise to us all, if Apple changed course, and transformed Pages v5 into a competitive word processing application. Recommend you either continue using what you have, or seek a non-Apple alternative.

  • Help - hyperlinks in PDF booklet?

This ought to be a trivial problem, but it is driving me nuts.
I have a large InDesign file with lots of hyperlinks in it, designed to be pritned as a booklet.
If I go to Adobe PDF presets > choose one of them, then check the Include..hyperlinks I get single page PDFs with the hyperlinks in them.
If I got to Print booklet I get a PDF with all the spreads correctly imposed - but none of the hyperlinks work.
So, how do I print as a booklet and include the hyperlinks?
    Thank you

Thanks Jongware - the idea is to have a publications catalogue people can either download and print out as a booklet or click on the links to download the publications.
However, not to worry as it was soluble: export as single page PDFs with hyperlinks in them, then print this PDF as a booklet with Reader X.

  • Insert hyperlinks in pdf-documents

Since Mavericks you can´t insert hyperlinks in pdf-documents. I miss this option in the preview. Are there any other possibilities?
(I have MS Office for apple, therefore the links get lost, if I convert it to pdf).

No one here can guess what "Apple wants." This is just an end user forum. There are open source alternatives to Pages and Office you may want to research: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6941

  • Hyperlinks in PDF files

We are having problems with hyperlinks in PDF files.
When clicking on a link in a PDF file the following message appears:
"The file and its viewer application are set to be launched by this PDF file. The file may contain programs, macros, or viruses that could potentially harm your computer. Only open the file if you are sure it is safe. If this file was placed by a trusted person or program, you can click Open to view the file."
There is a box that says "Do not show this message again", but selecing this box does not stop this message from appearing next time.
Is there any way to disable this notification??

    Hi Jakob,
BlackPlum suggets: "Thankfully, I noticed that in the Export... dialog box, (from the File Menu), you can select "Current Sheet" in the Layout field (this field defaults to "All Sheets", it's easy to miss). So select Current Sheet, and voila, you now have a pdf with multiple pages (and clickable hyperlinks!)."
Though my Export To ... PDF does not have such an option.
Hope a solution will come soon.

  • Change page destination of a button

I have a book of 54 documents. I 've made in each document some buttons to go to another document (hyperlink). No I have to make this same book in another language. I copied my document, renamed them by changing a suffix (for ex: _be into _fr)
I am wondering if it is possible to change the page destination of a button with a script...  I hope that it's possible because it is a lot of work to relink all this buttons.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
After reading your post, I tried to duplicate this problem. I opened a PDF, selected a sentence, then copied it to the clipboard. I then opened Pages, selected the blank template, then pasted in the text. It pasted perfectly.
Does this problem happen with all text in a PDF? With different PDFs?
