Hyperlinks all over PDF when opening in Preview?!?

Hi,
Been updating our software documentation in Adobe InDesign, I have removed ALL hyperlinks from the InDesign document but when I export and open this PDF in Preview there are hyperlinks everywhere such as on images and text.
If I open this PDF in Adobe Reader everything is fine, no hyperlinks anywhere.
I have tried exporting in:
Adobe InDesign CC
Adobe InDesign CS6
Adobe InDesign CS5.5
I have also tried Windows and OSX
The problem occurs when exporting in any of these.
Can anyone shed some light?

Here is a link to the offending PDF:
Not behind my Mac at the mo'; I opened it in Acrobat Pro to see if there are actual hyperlinks in this file. Indeed, as you already said, there are none.(*) I think I'd have to see for myself what Preview exactly does, and at what locations. Note to Self: check tonite.
It's imaginable that Preview attempts to be similarly "helpful" as Acrobat in default mode: automatically make all links hot -- and fails to do so, just like Acrobat does. But surely this should not do anything to images.
Do you still have a previous version of this same PDF where your Preview does *not* automatically add links?
(*) Not even on texts that are clearly marked up to look like hyperlinks, the blue underlined web references. But I guess you would fix that (**) after you got this problem sorted out.
(**) While you're doing that, also fix the typo "trademsarks" under the copyright line.

  • PDF document opened with Preview does not show french accents

    Hi everybody,
I've got some issues with PDF documents opened with Preview.
They show a blank space for all the accented vowels.
If I open the same document with Safari, it's the same. But with Chrome, it works perfectly.
I assume there's a problem with fonts, but, nothing wrong with fontbook (checked duplicates for instance).
Last information : it looks ok within chrome on my Imac, but the issue comes back when I try to print from chrome app...the accents are gone on the sheet.
Any idea ? I don't want to install Adobe reader...
    Thanks for your help !

I don't want to install Adobe reader...
Why not?  It can handle some pdf's that Preview can't.  At least it's worth a try.

  • What does HTML have over PDFs when working with data?

I'm doing some research for a client whose company is moving from PDFs to HTML for their in-house user interfaces.
What does HTML have over PDFs when working with data?
    Thanks!
    Luke

PDFs can indeed work with data and can be programmed with javascript. You can do some pretty interesting things with it. It is even possible to create interactive forms on the web using PDF, however it requires server-side support. As a general rule, though, PDFs are terrible as a web interface and it's far easier to work with HTML and PHP.
HTML is lightweight and PDF isn't (in case that seems like a small thing, it's actually a big negative for PDFs). The success of your PDFs will depend on the versions of acrobat your users use, and getting data in and out of the PDFs will require learning far more about Acrobat's FDF format and XML implementation than you may want to know.

    Hi All,
I have a user who is using Windows XP Pro & Outlook 2003, and has Adobe Acrobat 7.0.0 Standard.
If she forwards an email with mutiple PDF's attached to a recipient all is OK.
But if she copys and pastes the PDF's into a new email from the original email, and the recipient opens them, all the PDF's are the same document ?
Can anyone assist with this Please?
    Thanks in advance.

I want to move those imported e-mails which are on his Mac to Inbox for his new e-mail account (which should also be on his Mac right? even if it's IMAP... it should still allow e-mails into those folders?).
No, you misunderstand how Imap works. Emails in an Imap account are stored on the Imap server, the local client is synchronized to the server (either on a schedule or using push). If your bosses emails are locally on his Mac then they will have to be sent to the iCloud server in order for them to appear in the iCloud account. That requires an internet journey.
(When you copy from the imported folder to the inbox in Mail that is only the beginning pf the journey, Mail then has to upload whatever you just copied to the server)
The easiest way to do it is as you were doing it, but 21,000 emails are far too many for a one shot transfer unless you have fabulous internet bandwidth, things will fail.
I explained a reliable method for you to use earlier.

  • Safari is not allowing Adobe Acrobat to control PDF viewing, PDFs are opening in Preview

After the latest update of Safari, in Snow Leopard, when I attempt to open a document as a PDF, the document is opening in Preview rather that Adobe Acrobat software.  This has never happend before.  I have been openning PDFs in Acrobat in every previous version of Apple Software and every version of Adobe Acrobat.  The support personnel for the web site where the PDF documents are created suggests that some plug-in control in Safari has been changed in the latest update.

I thought it was clear but here it is again...
    1. While in the finder select any pdf file by clicking on it.
    2. In the File menu click the Get Info menu item or just click command + I ("eye").
    3.  The finder info window for that selected pdf will be displayed.
    4. You will see various sections of the info window separated by divider lines.  One will say Open With and have a popup menu below it.  From that popup select the app you want to open that pdf.
    5. If you want all pdf's to be handled by the chosen app click the Change All... button below the popup memu.

  • Don't want PDF to open in Preview...

Hi All, I know this doesn't quite fit in this Forum, but I don't know where else to post it.
I'm making an extensive PDF document with links to short video clips.
I made the document in Pages, then once it's a PDF I open it in Acrobat Pro and apply the links to the video clips. When re-opened in Acrobat all works fine... but not in Preview. It opens in Preview, but the links don't work.
The problem is that by default the file opens in Preview. How do I make the PDF document so it opens in Acrobat by default?
This file will go onto a DVD, so I need to fix the file rather than change the default/open settings in my OS.
    Cheers.

    I just figured it out.
Once I have made my links to the video clips in Acrobat, I select Save As and give it a new name. Then make sure Hide Extension is un-checked. This gives the .pdf and the file icon displays as an Acrobat file rather than a Preview PDF.
    Opens in Acrobat by default!
Note: This does not work the same when exporting from Pages to PDF. Un-checking Hide Extensions does not have the same result. Maybe that’s why it took so long for me to figure it out.

  • Force PDFs to open in Preview instead of Safari?

When I click on a .pdf link in Safari, it opens up in the browser as part of Acrobat Professional. How can I instead have it automatically open in Preview (which is much faster, less bloated)?

    Hi
First open Acrobat Professional. Open Preferences. Change the PDF viewer default.
Next, go to the Finder: Internet Plug-ins folder in either the main or User Library. Remove the Adobe PDF plug-in. Restart Safari.
PDF should now open in Safari. If you want to save or print it, right or control click to access the contextual menu. You can also port the PDF to Preview via the Contextual Menu.

  • Photo's look over saturated when compaired with Preview and PS.

My g/f's photos look natural when she views them in Preview and Photoshop, yet when viewed within iPhoto they look over saturated!
Which one represents the truest viewer and why are they different?
    Thanx

    Can I just say...
I ask anyone with Tiger and 6.0.3 to double click a photo from within iPhoto so it goes to edit within Photoshop. As soon as the photo arrives at PS it looks fine and as it should be. Compare the two and iPhoto's is aweful!!
Seriously, dont edit anything in iPhoto. The colour profiling is all over the place!

  • How can I always have  "enable all documents" selected when opening files in Indesign CS6?

Every time I open a file in CS6, I still have to select "open all documents" to see my files that have already been converted to CS6. Before, once a file was converted to the newer version of indesign, you would see it in the menu automatically when open "readable documents" was selected. Now when I go to find a file that I've already converted to CS6, it still makes me select "open all documents" because it doesn't show up as a "readable document"
    hope this makes sense.
i'm running osx 10.6.8, mac pro

if it has a .indd, .indt, .inx or .idml extension ist should show up as readable, regardless of the version. If it's not you have a bigger problem.

  • Photos distorted when opened in preview, yet ok in cover flow

    Hi
I previously posted this question which got moved to the iPhoto section, but its NOT an iPhoto issue: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2619921&tstart=0
Having purchased a new camera (Sony DSC2000) the first time I used it the photos were fine...now ever since they appear intermittently distorted, or missing altogether. I tried creating a basic new user account as a test with the same results. Help!!

    Hi
Thanks for the tip. Yes the problems happen regardless of the location or user account. As an example when opening the jpegs in Preview the log shows the following messages repeatedly:
    Macintosh.local Finder[115] <Error>: CGImageCreate: invalid image size: 0 x 0.
    10/12/2010 18:59:10 [0x0-0xb00b].com.apple.finder[115] Fri Dec 10 18:59:10 Macintosh.local Finder[115] <Error>: CGImageCreate: invalid image size: 0 x 0.

And when viewing the distorted jpegs in cover flow in Finder:
Macintosh.local quicklookd[727] <Error>: Corrupt JPEG data: premature end of data segment
    10/12/2010 19:25:22 com.apple.quicklook[727]

Any ideas gratefully received. Short of anything else I reckon I will try an erase and fresh install of Mac OS X 10.5 and see if that sorts things.

  • Verifying Signature PDFs when opening is very slow

When opening a PDF it takes a really long time.  At the bottom of the screen it shows "verifying signatures".  How can speed up this process without unchecking "verify signatures when the document is opened"?  As a test I unchecked this box and the PDF opened almost instantly which leads to be beleive this "verification" is causing the slowness.  Also tested the file on a network drive and local desktop and both takes a really long time to open. I also imported some of the signature certificates into the "trusted certificates" but that did not fix the issue. Thanks.

What version of Acrobat are you using? Are the signtures use self-signed certificates or something else?I know signature verification performance has been addressed in various updates. You might also want to post this in the Acrobat Security forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/security_%26_digital_signatures?view=discussions

  • Colored rectangles all over page when firefox is maximized

when I have firefox maximized, blue-green, red, and black rectangular blocks appear all over the page...I know it's not my monitor, it's cable, or my graphics card...all have been tested...when I uninstalled firefox and used ie, the issue did not exist...I just now reinstalled firefox with no add-ons, and the problem immediately returns...I really prefer using firefox but this display issue is troublesome

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
In Firefox 4 [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Cannot save FrameMaker 7 book as PDF, when opened using FrameMaker 8

I have a template created using FM 7. I have converted those templates into FM8 and then created a book. When I try to save the book as PDF, it gives the following error (in .txt format):

When I converted these FM8 files into FM7 and generated a book, I was able to save as PDF. I am able to save the individual FM8 files (using FM7 template) into PDF files.
Why am I not able to save the book as PDF, when I use FM7 template in FM8?

This problem was fixed in FM8.0p266. You are probably using the original release of FM8.0 (FM8.0p236).
Please update your version (Help > Updates), then try saving as PDF again.

  • After visiting a website that was a pdf file (which didn't load -crashed), Firefox now constantly causes calls to my hard drive all the time when open.

I went to a site that was a pdf of a map. When I clicked on it, the hard drive called constantly and the map never did download. Now when I open Firefox, my computer constantly makes calls to the hard drive all the time Firefox is operating. This does not happen when I use MS Explorer. Also, when I close Firefox from the desktop, it appears to close but is still operating in the background. I have to go into Task Manager to close Firefox. Then the calls to the hard drive stop.
Something similar happened once before with a pdf file, but it stopped when I shut down Firefox, rebooted, and reopened in Safe Mode. Now the condition is permanent. Is there a fix?
