Hyperlinks embedded in pdf don't all work in Preview

Hi,
I've been creating pdf files, opening them in Acrobat Pro and adding hyperlink click boxes over the text I want a link to. When I save the files and open the pdf in Preview, not all of the hyperlinks work. When I say they don't work, I mean the cursor changed to a hand (indicating a clickable object) but clicking does not take me to the web page that's indicated. I know the links are correct, and 9 out of 10 links created the same way work just fine.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Aha! Just figured it out! Someone created one of the pdfs I was linking to with spaces in their names...I just had to add the internet space character (% 20) into the hyperlink and all was well.
Thanks for your suggestion.
The annoying thing was that the hyperlinks were originally created in Word, and the hyperlink with the space worked in word, and the hyperlink in the pdf worked in Acrobat Reader, but not in Preview. I guess Preview doesn't automatically turn a space into a % 20.

  • Question:  Working MP3 Audio Embedded in PDF but won't work in IBooks

I am working with a large PDF file that is mostly scans of old letters.  I also have three audio MP3 files currently embedded and working well on my PC but the audio files do not work when I bring the PDF into ITunes as an IBook.  Everything else works perfectly.   From what I've read I believe I must be using the wrong file format to be compatible with my PC and IBook.   I have tried M4a but no luck.  Any suggestions?  I'm working with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Media Encoder most recent versions.

  • Rotation won't work; embedded in .pdf

    hi all
I've embedded a few .swf's in a .pdf presentation--they all work great except for one, where a rotation tween (using tweenlite) won't work.  It works fine playing it in flash player however... I've tried both reader and acrobat, with the same results
    any ideas?
    thanks!

My iPad 2 is having the same orientation issues since the upgrade.  I have reset my iPad about once a day since the upgrade to resolve the orientation getting stuck in either portrait or landscape.  Most of the day it works correctly but at some point it just stops.  I have tried switching the mute/lock setting back and forth but that doesn't help.  Only a hard reset resolves the issue...until it happens again a few hours later.
Wondering if my only option is a re-install, which I would rather avoid.

  • Hyperlinks in a PDF document converted from Word 2003

I have a large document for our state's mathematics vocabulary. It has internal hyperlinks to help someone navigate the document. I created it in Word 2003 and converted it to PDF using the tool in the menu bar. When finished, the PDF document has some working hyperlinks near the beginning (about a third of them), but most of the links (in the last two-thirds) do not work. I have also tried doing the conversion from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 (8.1.4), but I get the same results. Can someone help me solve this problem so the PDF document has all working links? Thanks.

Yes, you can create a script in Acrobat that loops through the links and adjusts the link's "rect" property to suit your needs. You'll want to consult the Acrobat JavaScript Reference, and look at the doc.getLinks method in particular: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.479.html
along with the Link object properties: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.802.html
Post again if you get stuck.
I don't know what control you have over this on the InDesign side of things. You may want to ask in one of the InDesign forums if you haven't already.

  • Hyperlinks in pdf don't work

    Hi.
I create pdfs with hyperlinks in adobe indesign 5.5.
The created Hyperlinks refer to other pdf documents and still work,
but if I open the same pdf Files with another computer,
    the links don't work.
I don't know why hyperlinks don't work on the other computer.
    Any ideas?
Both Acrobat Versions have the ability to use and open linked documents.
It seems to be a general problem from acrobat.
    Thanks!

If you create a link in Acrobat to another PDF file in the same folder or in a subfolder of the source PDF's location, the link destination will always specify only the filename (and optional subfolder), not the absolute path. Provided those two files/folders are moved together, the link will always work.
    EG:
    "Index.pdf" in folder  "C:\Writing\Novels\MyBook"
    "chapter.pdf" in "C:\Writing\Novels\MyBook\Chapters"
Linking from "index.pdf" to "chapter.pdf", the filespec attribute of the link will be "Chapters/chapter.pdf".
Copying the entire "MyBook" or "Novels" folder and subfolders to another computer, CD, etc. the link will work as normal.

  • When I convert a doc with hyperlinks into a PDF on a Mac links in the PDF don't work

Hey guys, please advise how to make a PDF on a Mac so that hyperlinks from the original file remain active and working in the PDF document? The links which look like a web address (http://www....) are converted correctly and open fine, but when a hyperlink is tied up to some piece of text (e.g., Watch on Youtube - and you can click on this phrase and the video opens) this link in a PDF file does not work, although it does in the original Word/PPT document.
When I make a PDF on a PC everything's fine: I can click on a link in the PDF and the website opens. But when I make the same operation on a Mac the links do not work...

There have been some methods posted by MAC users to address this issue. The MAC does not have the PDF Maker option that is available for the PC and so extra steps are needed. Sorry, but I do not know the process but would just suggest that you search the forum.

  • Can Preview recognize hyperlinks (embedded URLs) in PDF docs?

I've been trying to research this online but I get conflicting answers. Can Preview recognize hyperlinks (embedded URLs) in PDF documents? If it can, then how are those created?
I am using Adobe Acrobat Professional v7 (on Windows) and Preview doesn't appear to see the links I've created. Acrobat Reader on both Mac and Windows works fine.

I don't have any documents that I can test straight off, but I know Preview is limited when it comes to some of the advanced features of PDFs and you have to use Acrobat Reader for those. This might be another of those.

  • Hyperlinks in PDF, WORD, PPT not working in Safari on iPad

We have an intranet we are serving up for use on the iPad. The links to other documents in PDF, WORD, PPT work on my pc and laptop but not in the iPad. I have looked to see of there is a setting but the only thing I found was to allow pop ups which our site uses but not luck. The links are blue and appear they should work but don't. Any one else have this problem and how did you correct it?

We have a similar problem with links inside PDFs not working, but worse, our links are all relative, ie, only file names. This means that if you DO have an app that makes the links work, but which is not viewing it in the browser, the links will try to open the file, but it won't find it, since it won't have the full domain info.
I realize our users could put the full into on the links, but we chose to do it this way for the ease of preparation--we have hundreds of these files every month and there's no quick, easy or automatic way for the preparers to add the full domain info at creation time--it's 100% manual, even with copy/paste. It all works fine in IE on a PC, which is the overwhelming bulk of our viewers, so until recently when several board members got iPad2s, there was no compelling reason to make any changes. It wasn't broke

  • PDF form submission problem - works in Acrobat and Reader, but not when embedded in browser

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to submit a PDF form to an application server.
To do this, I added a "Submit" button to the PDF, configured the server's address and submit format, and tested the button.
I opened the PDF in Acrobat Pro, clicked the button, and my web application received the form in PDF format just as I wanted.
To make it work in Reader, I had to extend user rights via Acrobat Pro, and then the form worked inside Reader as well.
Up to here, everything went fine.
Then I embedded the PDF in a web page (which will be the final scenario) and it all stopped working.
The submit button doesn't do anything anymore, and no data is sent to the application server.
I even tried switching from the form's submit mechanism to calling event.target.submitForm(...) in Javascript directly, but nothing changed (meaning this too worked only when opening the form as an "offline" pdf, but not when embedding it in a web page).
Is there something I am missing? Something else that must be configured/activated in order to be able to submit the PDF when it is in the form of an embedded object?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Alex

    Thanks for your reply, Paul.
I tested the submit button both in Reader 9.3 and Acrobat 8 (which is the same I used to RE the PDF).
Apparently I got it working too, but only by deploying my embedding web page to an application server.
The final environment the PDF will be embedded into will be inside a web application deployed to an application server, so I guess my problem is solved.
It didn't work only when embedded into a local test.html web page saved on my PC...
Thanks again, have a good day.

  • Hyperlinks to PDF files only work in Preview

I cannot get any of my hyperlinks to PDF files to work in my
ouput WebHelp file. The links work fine in Preview, but not in the
actual output. And the files have been added to the baggage folder,
and can be seen in the Baggage folder. Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi Retso
Sorry for not replying earlier. I've been conducting a
    RoboHelp HTML class all day.
Are you using RoboHelp HTML 6? If so, there is a new option
labeled "Mark of the web" that could be nailing you. When you
generate your WebHelp by double-clicking the layout, see if this
option is enabled. If so, disable it and your PDF links should
begin working. Note, however, that by DE-selecting this option, you
could start seeing the Yellow Information bar as Internet Explorer
ever so helpfully deems this as a security threat and blocks your
WebHelp until you click it and allow the content to be shown.
    Cheers... Rick

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

Since updating Firefox to 36, embedded Flash videos don't work. HTML5 and Flash videos on YouTube work fine. Hi pissedadobeuser,
Does this issue occur with any particular web page?
Are you able to print the webpage to 'Adobe PDF' to convert it to pdf.
Which Browser version, OS version and Acrobat version are you using?

Thanks for replying. I am converting from MS Office Word document to Adobe Acrobat Document and opening with Reader XI - sorry my mistake.
I now notice another problem. On trying to open a specific hyperlink in the pdf version I get the message  'Acrobat does not allow connection to: www.biblegateway.com'.  Why would there be a restriction?

We checked it with an iPhone 5 in house multiple times and could not reproduce this Problem. Must be something specific to your device. Maybe your speakerphone volume is turned down completely?
