Hyperlinks greyed out

Hi there, I am trying to create hyperlinks in an Indesign TOC. However the Hyperlink option is greyed out in the options menu. I looked at other discussions and the advice when this happened was always to trash or change the preferences. I looked at that document but the files it mentions to trash are not on my system. I am using a new MAC and version CS5 of Indesign.

The down side of the keyboard method is that if you have a fast computer, it's hard to press the keys fast enough. It's not the repetition, it's getting in the keystrokes fast enough.
If you can't find the files on a Macintosh, it's probably because in Lion and Mountain Lion, your Home > Library file is by default hidden. In the Finder, if you hold down the Option key when you choose the Go menu, you should be able to see Library as a choice. Then you can probably find the files that Peter Spier refers to in this documentation:

Add hyperlink greyed out

Couldn't add a hyperlink to text box (greyed out) so I moved it to regular text and the add hyperlink is still greyed out.
Finally I closed iBA and reopened it. No change.
I've seen similar posts about links to graphics, and tried selecting the entire text box, but link option stays greyed out.

My own experiments suggest that the central feature affecting the ability to add a bookmark is the outline of the text box that surrounds the text you are trying to make into a bookmark. If it is a ‘dotted text box’ then you will be successful; if it is continuous, you will not.
These ‘dotted text boxes’ appear in any of the ‘add pages’ which already has a text box in it (eg 2 column or 3 column etc). What happens depends on whether you are selecting from the ‘section’ or ‘pages’ folder. Considering the ‘pages’ first.
When added, these pages may appear blank because they don’t contain text until it flows on from the previous page (it will usually link its text boxes with the previous page).
Any text that you add inside the dotted text box, or any that flows over from earlier ones, or any that is there by default can be selected and made into a bookmark: in other words the + in the bookmark inspector will not be grayed out.
However, if you do anything that breaks the link with the previous ‘dotted text box’ (eg by selecting the frame and dragging the blue link end away from the box), then the text box becomes a ‘continuous line’ box and you can no longer create bookmarks within it. In fact any existing ones now connect to the the previously linked ‘dotted’ text boxes.
It is also worth noting that all the text that was created in the now ‘continuous line’ text box may disappear—but if you insert a new ‘text box’ page, the text will appear again (as though it was homeless up to that point because it didn't have a linked text box to display in).
If, say, you have three linked text pages, even if you delete the middle one the links will re-establish themselves between the first and last page and all bookmarks will be maintained.
Now, if you add a page from the ‘section’ folder, (eg copyright, forward, etc) you may well find that there are 2 text boxes. Select each one in turn. If it has a continuous line you can’t add a bookmark to text inside it. If it is has the dotted lines, you can.
Select the dotted line text box (by clicking on a handle) and you will find that a ‘blue link line’ does not enter it on the left (unlike ‘2 column’ pages etc) or leave it on the right. This makes things easier because it avoids the problems associated with the pages from the ‘page section’. You can create bookmarks for any words that you type into this text box.
I hope I have got it right! It is all very confusing and still means that the bookmark feature is not as great as it could be: let’s hope that Apple puts things right with the next update.

Peter is correct. However, one can clever up two overlayed, grouped Text Box and simulate a hyperlinked image that can be placed in the document body with text flowing around the image. Moving the image requires temporarily turning off the hyperlink in the Link inspector. Example was Pages ’09 v4.3 on OS X 10.8.4.
Steps:
From the Pages Toolbar, select Text Box twice. The Text Box will be slightly offset. Select and drag the offset one to just above the centered one.
Click inside the centered Text Box and back out the placeholder text. Now select this Text Box and choose the graphic inspector.
Choose Fill > Image Fill. Choose your image, and then Scale to Fit the entire Text Box.
From the Pages arrange menu, choose Make Background Objects Selectable, and Send Object to Background.
In the Wrap inspector, select Object Causes Wrap, and your choice there. My example was door #2.
Click inside your text-only Text Box. Change the placeholder text to three instances of the capital letter ‘O.’
Launch the Font panel (command+T).
Manually change the font size to 92 points. This just fits a default Text Box size without wrapping. I used Times New Roman Regular.
Select the text, and with the Link inspector, enable your choice of hyperlink, and also disable it (for now) with the “Make all hyperlinks inactive.”
With the text still selected, choose Font color from the Font panel. At the bottom of the Color tool, set the Opacity of your text to zero.
Drag the transparent text-only Text Box exactly over the top of your image Text Box. Use the blue guides.
From the Pages edit menu, Select All. From the Pages Arrange menu, choose Group.
Drag the Text Box group where you want it in your document body. Text will flow around it if you used my setting in the Wrap inspector.
Lastly, with the Text Box group selected, disable “Make all Hyperlinks inactive” in the Link Inspector. You now effectively have a text map overlaying your image and the mouse pointer changes to a hand. The link is now active. Exporting your Pages document to PDF preserves the hyperlinked image effect in both Preview and Acrobat Reader.

Cross-References/Hyperlink Options Greyed Out (CS5)

I want to use the Cross References feature in InDesign CS5.
I go to Type > Hyperlinks & Cross-References. All of the options are always greyed out besides Convert URLs to Hyperlinks...
I also go to Window > Type & Tables > Cross-References. All options in that panel are always greyed out besides Create new hyperlink.
Again, I am using InDesign CS5.
I am on a Macbook Pro with OS X Mountain Lion, version 2.

The first thing to try is trash your prefs. See Replace Your Preferences

Inserting Text Hyperlink..of any kind....is greyed out.

Anyone care to offer up what I'm doing wrong? I have an image selected, I go to insert...text hyperlink....and then all options are greyed out. I want to select web page. What is the fix?

Format links are greyed out

I have set up links with success but when I try to format them I am having a problem. I select the link and on link inspector choose format. The options are greyed out. Help suggested opening the colour palate but no good. I am using blank pages with formal theme. Pages otherwise not complex.

Are you trying to format text based hyperlinks or an ojbect? The formatting pane only works when you select text based hyperlinks. Be sure not to just select the text box that the text is in.l

Bookmark option is greyed-out, how can I create a bookmark from text?

In the Link Inspector the Add bookmark option is greyed-out. I want to make a heading on page 4 a bookmark so that readers can jump to that page from the beginning.

Confirm your process against the topic '- Hyperlink two words/text -' in iBA Tips and Tricks 01.
If a jump to page 4 is that important, I'd consider moving the content around so the user doesn't have to travel to see it - otherwise, just link to the first word on page 4 if using the title/heading gives you trouble.

Text wrap options are greyed out

Hi,
I am trying to create a "drop cap" by selecting a text box and changing the wrap options in the inspector however, the "object placement" options to wrap the text are greyed out and I can not change them, except for the options below, such as "object causes to wrap" check box and the "text fit" boxes.
Is this a glitch? I have restarted both my program and whole computer, as well as tried it in a new document, and it still is coming up greyed out.
HELP, I have a project due and I need to be able to add in drop caps!

Wi-fi option on my ipod touch is greyed out?

Hi,
My ipod touch won't connect via wi-fi and the option is greyed out when I try to connect manually. Two other ipod touches in my house are working fine. I've already reset it 3 times and no change.

For Z Po order type - Item category field is greyed out.

I am an ABAper working on PO creation with respect to PR( PR with account assignment N) for Z order type . The requirement includes to update item category of PO with B , But for this Z order type both PO transaction Create/Change(ME21/ME22) the field item category has been greyed out ( Non editable). I checked the SPRO setting for this order type ( SPRO-MM->Purchasing-PO->Define Screenlayout at document level .The field item category has been made as optional.
Please let me know why this field ( item category still showing in display mode) and How to make it as editable .I need it as editable in ME22 to implement the new requirement of updating that field with item ategory B.

Hi All,
Since I was creating a PO with respect to PR - after running through all the screens the item category field was becoming non editable, But during the create in one of screen the field item category was still editable, so I updated the item category with B during the create and created the PO, I have used BDC to do the same and its working fine. ITunes 11 has moved most of my audiobooks to music, and greyed out the "audiobook" option in the info pane. WHY?!?!?

Now I have a music library filled with audiobook content and music content all mixed up, playing EVERYTHING when I'm on shuffle because iTuness 11 has now also reset the previously-audiobook-now-music content not to be skipped in shuffle, and I can't fix it because the option is greyed out. Can anybody help me?

Just an update, following last nights USB sync all music shows as In the library on my iPhone, however only the same 500 or so songs are playable, the rest go from appearing to be in the library to going into the cloud and starting to download when manually selected. If on shuffle the music skips over them. The iPhone memory usage shows only about 10gb used most of which is for the iOS/apps, so once again my music library is not on my iPhone. Apple have managed to take a great product and turn it into a steaming pile of turd.

I have recently purchased a Mac computer (updated to Maverick) to go with my Epson Stylus Photo RX500 printer which has given excellent service with my old Windows computer. However, when trying to print pictures or photos via Photoshop Elements 11, the best results I can get are using the Colour Management and Epson Colour controls in the printing options box.
My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management, The only way I can reset the controls is to shut down the printer and computer and restart.
Could there may be a setting somewhere that I need to adjust please? I have been in touch with Epson and they say that the Epson Colour controls are part of the Photoshop Elements software but a post on the Adobe forum brought no results and I am unable to contact Adobe.

Hello Garry. Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have used a different title from "How do I post a question?" That should come after trying to resolved the colour settings first. However, to answer your question, after experimenting with all the different settings in Photoshop Elements and Epson software, I now start with PSE11 Colour settings then click "no colour management" then after clicking Print, I choose "More Options/Colour Management/Colour Handling/Printer Manages Colour" then I choose "Page Setup/Layout/Colour Matching" which then shows Epson Colour Controls but I also choose "Layout/Colour Management" which then shows "Colour Controls/Mode" I then of course choose an Epson printer profile depending on the paper I am using. I get good results but as I said, the Colour Matching and Colour Controls are then greyed out. Hope that makes sense.

Cannot move junk email to Bulk Mail folder in Yahoo, greyed out

I've searched but so far no luck. Ever since I added my two Yahoo email accounts on my iPhone 4, I cannot seem to send junk email from my inbox to my Bulk Mail folder, it is greyed out. First off, I've confirmed that the Bulk Mail folder on my iPhone is the same as my Spam folder in Yahoo mail on the desktop. I can see the same emails in both folders. Anyone have the same experience and found a way to correct this, or is this just a Yahoo limitation?

I am having the same problem, but I'm not very clear on how to follow the steps.
went to my yahoo account in IOS;
hit edit, hit "new mailbox" at the bottom right corner of the screen;
entered a name;
below that, it has "Mailbox Location", I opened it;
it list all my personal folders, I am stuck here.
How do I "point the mailbox location to the Bulk Mail folder", as instructed? Am I missing a step?

I’m creating a form where the user has three options to make a payment.
1. charge to my credit card
2. charge associated costs to bank account
3. By cheque or money order
My Problem is, under each option, there are required fields that has to be filled out. So if the user picks the first option, charge to my credit card, they would fill out the required fields (credit card number, expiration date etc.). But when they click submit button to submit the form, it won’t let them, because there are required fields under the second option. Also, I have the radio buttons for the three options setup so that if the user holds the shift key and clicks a radio button, it unchecks it. So what I'm trying to do is this: If the user selects the radio button for option 1, the other two options are greyed out/disabled. And if the user holds down the shift key and clicks radio button for option one again, it unchecks the radio button and the other two options are available again. Is there a way to grey out or disable the two other payment options when the other one is picked. I’m assuming I will have to use javascript, but what would the coding be and which field do I write it under?

You will have to use custom JavaScript to access the various properties of the field object.
The radio button group has a value. When no button is selected that value is "Off". When an individual button has been selected the value for the group will be the option or export value for that individual button.
Once you have determined the button selected, then you will know the form fields that need to be made required. You use JavaScript to access those fields and change the "read only" property to false, and set the "required" property to true. For the fields associated with the other options, those fields should be reset, made read only, and have the "required" property set to false.
Disabling (graying-out) Form Fields

Radio button in a PDF do not work that way. Only check boxes can be unchecked by clicking on one that has been checked.
If you plan the coding for the Mouse UP action to test for all possible options and code for each of those options you should have what you want.
If you want actual code you need to provide a lot more details.
It is even possible to perform some credit card and bank routing number validations with JavaScript and some check digit formulas.
