Hyperlinks in Dual Display mode, Keynote '09.

This problem has been well reported in this forum, but I cannot find an answer.
I have created a series of Keynote '09 presentations and I have installed hyperlinks on the last slide of each one to open, on clicking, the subsequent presentation.
Trouble is in Dual Display (not mirrored) mode using a projector as Secondary Display and a MacBook as Primary Display (with next slide, presenter notes, timers, and other items that only I, as presenter, can see. Then I cannot activate the hyperlinks; in fact the icon of small blue circle and white arrow is not showing in this mode and the pointer does not change to finger.
However if I press X or use "Swap" from drop-down menu I can see the view of slide that the audience normally sees and the hyperlink is shown and active. I click on it and once the subsequent Keynote opens, I can press X again and return to Presenter View on MB, but this is messy and the audience gets to see the "workings". Not a good look.
Interestingly, the same disappearance of hyperlinks also occurs if I use Rehearse Slideshow, but not if I use Play Slideshow when MB is not hooked to external display. This seems to suggest thst these hyperlinks are not there in "Presenter" view.

I found I had the same problem at my let presentation: Hyperlinks do not work in dual display using the MacBook at primary display. I gave up and put the presentation on my iPad and everything worked fine. Think I will just mirror the display of my MacBook so I can use the hyperlinks.

  • Using hyperlinks in dual display mode

I have a hyperlink to open a new keynote presentation. When working on my laptop, the hyperlink works fine. However, when I'm using an external display, the hyperlink will not work. Any suggestions?

    Sorry, I guess I wasn't as clear as I thought I was. Let's see...
When I say it doesn't work, what I mean is that when I'm hooked up to the LCD projector and I place the curser over the hyperlink, it doesn't change from the pointer to the pointing finger and even if I try clicking on the link it will not open the other Keynote presentation that I have it linked to. The computer is set for an external display, in other words, no I do not have "mirrored" selected.
On the other hand, if I'm just working at my computer and "play" my presentation, I'm fully able to move the curser over the link, it changes to the pointing finger and when I "click" the linked presentation opens and I'm set to go. It just doesn't make sense to me that by simply hooking up the LCD projector, the links aren't functioning.

  • Video iChat for Full Screen presentation in dual-display mode

I plan on giving a presentation and want to use video iChat with a special effects background projected using dual display mode. I find that if I use video preview in iChat, that I can't enter full screen mode (this would look best when projected). It seems you can only enter full screen if connected to a buddy in iChat, which I don't want for the presentation.
Any thoughts on how to accomplish this, or maximize the appearance?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You want the Flipped pic that iChat gives you but using the Preview only as you do not require an actual chat to make a Presentation.
Ideally you would like that to be Full Screen but the Preview only does not do full screen.
Adding a second Screen in the form a Projector and mirroring is possible.
This of course would allow you present a "Live Feed" as it were.
Do you gave Quicktime Pro ?
This allows you to set a window to Full Screen even if not actually recording, but shows what the camera sees. (albeit not Flipped like iChat although iGasses can fix that.
I would also look at some of the options on this page

  • Dual Displays (Fooling Keynote)

I read something online and I can't find it anymore. What I'm looking for is how to "fool" my Powerbook and Keynote into thinking I have dual displays so I can test out my presentation's presenter options.
I know it had something to do with attaching the dongle, changing the System Preferences and Keynote Preferences. I also remember that things had to be done in a specific order. I have tried a few combinations, but none of them work. I've also searched the web with not luck.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
I'll be presenting Monday morning at a convention from my laptop with a projector that will be set up in my classroom. Unfortunately, I won't be able to practice until 1 hour before my presentation.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forums, renee.
Do you have Keynote 3? If so, simply go to the View menu and choose "Rehearse Slideshow". That view will let you see the show as if you are viewing the Presenter Display.

  • Aperture Dual Display Mode Poor?

One of the big reasons I picked up Aperture was its ability to utilize my dual display set-up, but the implementation in Aperture seems hamstrung to me.
I have a 22" Cinema Display as my main screen with a 17" Studio Display to it's left. What I'd LIKE to do is have the 22" with a full version of a book layout (for example) with all the thumbnails on the 17". But it seems that I can't do this, being only able to use the 17" to show a full screen version of the selected image.
I'd love to see the Aperture interface tabbed the way Final Cut Pro's is so that the various elements could be moved across the 2 displays as wanted.
Seems to be a poor implementation. Is there a way to get better flexibility?
    Cheers,
    Joe

Thanks all, I have come up with a temporary "workaround" just by moving the Aperture interface all the way to the left on the 17" and extending it to cover the whole of the 22".
IF I could save the workspace, that would be OK (not great but ok).
In the meanwhile I can have the thumbs on the 17" with the book just about full screen on the 22"
I did try that changing the primary monitor thing and that's also kind of a pain, plus it still didn't let me see my book layout up close on the 22".
I think tabbing the screen elements would do it, and no I hadn't seen the "feedback" link before (I got the program 2 days ago) so I will definitely do that, too.
    Thanks again for the feedback!

  • Keynote 5.0 presentation dual display mode: no cursor on audience display

In KN 5.0 presentation dual mode, the cursor only shows on the presenter's screen, not the audience screen in auditorium. I've tried all the combinations in Keynote Preferences, and hitting the C key doesn't help. No clues in the KN 5.0 manual. I'm using DVI to VGA dongle -- could it be a VGA limitation? Or perhaps a secret switch or keystroke combo?

are you swinging the cursor over onto the projector screen, or assuming it works like PPT where you move your mouse on the proxy image on the presenter screen and it shows up on the projector?

  • MBP with external LCD TV in dual display mode

    I’ve got MacBook Pro 15" 2.O 2GBRAM with Mac OS X (10.4.10) .
I know there is a way to hook up my MBP to my LCD TV (Sony 32” that support PC input). I’d like to use it in dual mode with “Apple Logic Pro” so that mixer setting will be on LCD TV and arrangement window will be on MBP.
I know this is possible with desktop units that have dual monitors but I wasn’t sure if I could do it with MBP(???)
    Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks

It'll work exactly the same way as it does on a desktop.

  • White screen on boot, wrong resolution in dual-display mode

    Hello,
I recently installed the software driver for a Brother HL-2040 laser printer on my 12 in. iBook G4. I was prompted to reboot, which I did. When my computer restarted, only a gray-white screen appeared.
It seems that the LCD is out of phase or something similar. Some garbled content displays in the right third of the screen, top to bottom, but it is almost the same value of gray-white as the rest of the screen, nothing discernable.
Interestingly, when I attach my iBook to an external CRT monitor (Dell P991), my iBook LCD displays correctly at 800x600 resolution (as well as the mirror on the CRT monitor).
When I open the Display panel from sysprefs, it shows 800x600@85 for the CRT and 1024x768@60 for the LCD. If I try to change the LCD settings, I encounter an out of phase display on the LCD (sometimes tiled display of my desktop, sometimes gray-white screen, depending on resolution and refresh rate).
If I disconnect the external monitor cable, the laptop screen returns to the gray-white screen.
I have reset the PRAM & NVRAM following Apple's documentation. The first time I did this, there was no change in the display. The second time, I encountered the spinning gear during start-up, which was immediately followed by the gray-white screen.
I have repaired the disk permissions and verified the disk via the Disk Utility.
Does anyone know how to correct this issue?
If you have any questions for me or need more detail, please let me know.
    Thanks for the help.

    Here's an update:
I tried installing the most recent driver from www.brother-usa.com for the HL-2040 laser printer. This did not cause any change.
I tried creating a new user on the computer, but the issue seems to be at the system level as the display problem occurs when I boot-up.
I ran the Apple Hardware test via the OSX 10.4 install CD1. This did not turn up any negative results, however it indicated I had 16MB of VRAM instead of 32MB. Also, it showed the resolution at 800x600 instead of 1024x768.
When I have my external CRT monitor connected and I enter System Preferences > Displays, I encounter two windows. The window for the CRT shows the only two options as 640x480 and 800x600. The Default Display (which I assume is the LCD) shows a variety of resolutions and refresh rates. I select 1024x768@60Hz, which at least shows the screen, however the actual LCD resolution is 800x600.
Does anyone have any ideas of what may be causing this issue at the system (not user) level?
    Thanks again!

  • Mac mini dual display - blue screen flashes frequently

I recently purchased a mac mini i7 model, with fusion drive.
I have upgraded the RAM to 16GB.
I have also purchased 2 monitors, both are LG 22EA63V LED.
I connected one monitor direct HDMI to HDMI.
The other monitor is connected from Thunderbolt to HDMI.
Everything worked amazingly well for the first few weeks. Now, not so much....
I frequently have the screen freeze and flash blue, and then resume as normal dual display mode.
Other times the screen will flash blue and then come back as a single display. In this case the Thunderbolt to HDMI display appears as primary display, while the HDMI display loses connection.
If I unplug the HDMI display completely, the blue screen flashing does not happen at all.
So, what could be causing this problem, and how do i fix it?

    Hi Matt,
See if there's some setting on the HDMI monitor for Input Source, or things like Auto-tune.

  • Dual Display Problems - No Signal After Sleep

So, I just set up my hexacore Mac Pro with stock ram and the ATi 5870. To go along with it, I purchased two Dell U2311H monitors from Dell so that I could finally have dual displays. I then purchased two 6' minidisplayport to displayport cables from Monoprice. Also went with the Apple wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse.
Upon initial start-up, everything worked fine. The monitors needed to be calibrated, but dual display mode worked perfectly without any extra steps. I had some fun messing around for a little bit and then decided to take a break. I put the computer to sleep.
I came back 15 minutes later (couldn't stay away for long), and clicked the mouse to wake the computer back up. I heard the tower humming, but the monitors stayed black. I tapped the keyboard. Still black. Assuming it was some issue I wasn't prepared for with the wireless peripherals, I futzed around with them for a while and had no luck. Still not image on the monitors. I turned the monitors off and then back on only to get an error message explaining that the monitor was in Power Save mode. Some further exploration revealed that the monitors were allegedly getting NO SIGNAL from the computer.
Restarting didn't help any. The only thing that has "worked" is shutting down the computer and connecting a single monitor through the DVI-D cable that came with it. I can then reconnect the displayport cable and switch the input to re-establish dual displays, but this is obviously pretty annoying. It seems like I can eliminate questions with the monitors themselves or the cables. In doing some research, I've found some threads on different sites about people having similar dual display issues attributed to faulty graphics cards. I certainly hope this isn't the case, but I'm at a loss for what the problem might be. It seems odd that dual displays would work briefly only to fail after going to sleep for 15 minutes.
Sorry if this is the dumbest question ever. Is there something stupid that I'm doing wrong? Anyone have any insight?
Any guidance you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have the exact same issue. Here's the forum I've got going: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2686085&tstart=90
I called AppleCare because this issue was out of the box. Engineering wanted to capture some logger information so I ran the logger and sent it off to them.
I am running a Dell 27" via a DisplayPort to Mini-DisplayPort cable (also purchased through Monoprice) and a Dell 22" via DVI to DVI (have also tried with the DVI to DVI cable connected to an Apple DVI-MiniDisplayPort adapter and the same issue arrises). When I boot the computer with any of these cables, I get no video. Only when I boot with a Dual-Link DVI (DVI-D) cable from the 27" monitor do I get any video on screen. At this point, I can then plug in the DisplayPort to Mini-DisplayPort cable and the regular DVI (not Dual-Link) after unplugging the DVI-D cable and I get video. If I restart the computer, no problem. However, if the computer goes to sleep or if I power down and then power back up, I am back to square one with no video and have to resort to using the Dual-Link DVI cable.
Because this was DOA out of the box, they ended up just RMA'ing the machine and re-ordering my CTO Mac Pro 6-core. Still waiting for it to be built, I'll let you know how it goes on the second machine when it arrives.

  • Setting Photoshop monitor profiles when using dual displays?

I'm using a Macbook Pro connected to an Apple Cinema Display under OS 10.5.8. Both monitors are calibrated and I export from Lightroom to Photoshop in ProPhoto. The Photoshop working colour space is also ProPhoto so there is no mismatch there.
When in dual display mode I like to have my Photoshop application on the Macbook screen and the photo I'm working on shown on the Cinema Display. In fact, I couldn't work any other way because the laptop's screen is not at all suitable for precision work.
I noticed that when I send an image from Lightroom to Photoshop CS4 for further editing the colours were off in Photoshop. This lead me to check the monitor profile used by Photoshop and I saw it was using the Macbook Pro .icc profile. This seems to be used even if the image is displayed in the external display. Selecting the Cinema Display as "default" in ColorSync doesn't change the situation. As a result, the colours as displayed by Photoshop are incorrect.
The only "solution" I have found is to either go to System Preferences > Displays  and select the external monitor as the principal one (which is inconvenient because it negates many of the advantages of using dual monitors) or setting the Cinema Display's .icc profile for the Macbook Pro as well (which makes it the one chosen by Photoshop but means I'm only working wiht one correctly calibrated monitor).
Is there a solution to this problem? Ideally I want to have both my monitors calibrated and Photoshop detect which one I'm using to view my photo. Failing that, I would like to have both monitors calibrated and "tell" Photoshop to use the Cinema Display as the principal monitor.I don't want .
    Many thanks!

    Thanks for your reply!
I'm not too worried about 10.6 because I'm not using it ( I reverted to 10.5.8 precisely because of the colour issues).
I don't really understand your reply. My problem is that if Photoshop uses my Mabook Pro profile as the "monitor profile" my pictures - as displayed on the Cinema Display - look different in Lightroom and in Photoshop. It's as if Lightroom is "aware" of which of the two displays is being used whereas Photoshop can only deal with one at a time. I would like to know if this analysis is correct and what I can do so that Photoshop displays my photographs the same way as Lightroom does on each of my two displays.

  • 10.5.1 and dual display bug

I have been using my MacBook Core Duo (graphics card GMA 950) connected to a projector in dual display mode for over a year. After upgrading from 10.5 to 10.5.1, the macbook can function in mirror mode, but the projector does not receive a signal for dual display unless I restart the computer. The problem is consistent even though the projector has not changed.
Normally I plug in and the laptop screen changes to blue, then changes to dual display mode and sends a signal to the projector. Now, when I connect to the projector, the projector signal is black. I can switch to mirror mode using either F7 or via the Display preferences but there is no way to obtain dual display mode. Once I reboot, the problem is solved. This has been going on daily, each time with the same solution.

I get dozens of the "ACL found but not expected ..." messages, all on the contents of System/Library/User Templates/. When I go to System/Library/ in Finder, only the User Templates folder has a red icon on it, indicating that I do not have access to it (when logged in as an admin). The icon does not appear on any of the other folders in System/Library. Does anyone have any idea on what's going on?

  • Using dual displays

    Hello,
I currently have a MacBook Pro with a 19" LCD connected in dual display mode.
What I would like to be able to do is play DVD's on the MacBook Pro screen while "working" on the 19" screen. However, whenever I put a DVD in, I lose the desktop immediately and the movie will only play on the 19" screen. The Macbook Pro screen goes black.
Just wondering what settings I need to change in the system preferences to make this work the way I want it.
    Thanks !!
    Kallum

Additionally you will need to turn off the "Dim other displays while playing" preference.

  • How can I get a dual display to work with Keynotes?

I'm using an iMac 24" output to a projector. I want to have Keynotes presentation on the iMac mon while I demo with various softwares, iPhoto, on the projection screen. Basically, I want to run the Keynote presentation and forward the slides on the iMac24" as a reference to the demos I'm doing on the large screen.
Keynotes does not seem to let me do that. It wants to take up both screens.
    Help is appreciated.

You are right: When in the presentation mode, Keynote normally wants to use both screens, depending on your Keynote Preferences settings.
Although I haven't tried this, the following procedure might be a way to accomplish what you want. It's worth a try, and at least it can do no harm.
    1) In Keynote /Preferences / Slideshow window, check the box "Allow Expose, Dashboard, and others to use screen. This lets other applications use the display on your computer while Keynote is in the Presentation mode.
    2) In the same menu, check the button "Present on primary display." This will put the presentation onto your iMac screen.
    3) In the Keynote / Preferences / Slideshow window, do NOT check the box "Use alternate display to view presenter information." This means that your slideshow will run, but you will not be able to see the "presenter information" to preview what's coming next. You'll need to run your slideshow by memory.
    4) The other applications you want to show on the projector (which you assign as the "alternate" display in the System Preferences / Displays menu) you will need to drag them over to that display before you launch the Keynote Presentation - just as you would do if you were using two monitors.
Others have asked similar questions, so if this works, please let us all know. If you have to "fiddle" with it a bit, please let us know that too.
    Good luck.
