Hyperlinks in ebooks in CS5.5 -- Please share your info

I'd like to make a suggestion.  Perhaps this will help the developers.
It appears that some of us have no trouble with internal hyperlinks in ebooks, and others do -- which makes me wonder if it's something to do with individual systems.  I'd like to ask any and all who have exported to epubs with CS5.5 to leave an answer to these questions, whether you have had problems or not.  Perhaps one of our resident experts could suggest other questions.
(By "internal hyperlinks" I mean a link that goes to another place in that document, not to a URL on the internet.)
1.  Do internal hyperlinks work when you export a book to epub format?
2. Do internal hyperlinks work when you export a single document to epub format?
3.  Do you use a Mac or a PC?
4.  What operating system are you using?
5.  Any other input you feel may be helpful.
Somehow we need to get this one figured out!
Thanks for your input.

With the utmost respect to Gabriel, this problem was not fixed in 5.5.  I have the same problem.  Yes, the hyperlinks work fine in a single epub document, but they do not work correctly in books.
You will find you need to export the entire book to an epub, then unzip it with 7zip, correct the hyperlinks, and rezip it.  You'll need to know HTML for this.
According to other posts I've read on this forum, InDesign leaves out a part of the <a href> code when it exports a book.
I found this post here somewhere, but I don't remember where:
"Wherever you see an <a href="#your_anchor_name"> place the filename you are linking the cross reference to in front of it. If you are linking to the chapter title for a TOC item, and the filename for chapter 1 is Chapter 1.xhtml, do this: <a href="Chapter 1.xhtml#your_anchor_name">.  You have to do this for every cross reference."
I hope this helps.  It's a real pain, but it seems to be the only answer.
Good luck.

  • Can you please share your experience in implementing / upgrading the Primavera EPPM R8.3?

    Hi,
In our company various versions (V7, R8.1 and R8.3) of Primavera being used in various locations. To bring all the location to a common platform, management has decided to implement  / upgrade Primavera EPPM P6 R8.3 and also planned to integrate Primavera P6 R8.3 EPPM with Oracle (EBS) Projects application . Hence, If any of you implemented Primavera P6 EPPM R8.3 or upgraded the earlier versions to Primavera P6 R8.3. Please share your ideas and also the pros and cons of implementing R 8.3 EPPM. For your information we are going to have SQL database since all the existing databases are in SQL.
Please share your ideas and experiences.

    Hi,
we have done a lot of implementations and migrations to the P6 EPPM R8.3 from different former versions and this is working fine. the dbsetup does a good job.
A good way in my point of view is to set up a new P6 EPPM R8.3 system with a new PMDB Instance which will keep the configurations so that you easily can migrate or exchange the instances. Always remind to have a validated backup of any instance before migrating.
Before migration you should mind the following points:
The source version of the old P6 PMDB instance is:
P6.2.1 or before => first you need to migrate it to P6 V7.0 before you can migrate it to P6 R8.3
P6 V7.0 => check if you have used P6 WebAccess: if not okay, else check if you used jackrabbit (look for migration tool), Workflows (close all before migrating); Check if using Jobservice XER-Export (no longer available); Jobservice Batchreport (only Workaround available see Knowledgebase); Risks in the P6 Client (need to be manually migrated)
P6 R8.0 to R8.2 => Using Extended Schema, Enterprise Reporting Database, own BI Publisher Reports => Check stept to be taken for migration
    Other questions are:
Which authentication method will you use (native, LDAP, SSO)? If not using native and you want to connect the BI Publisher then you need also to use that authentication there.
The migration itself is pretty easy if you take care that all sessions are closed (no users or unclosed primavera sessions settings  on that instance, stop all Applications, interfaces or Services connected to the instance. Cleanup your refrdel_deletes, logical_deletes and (if used before), extended Schema tables.
Then you can migrate with dbsetup, use additional Service Packs and Fixpacks (actually Service Pack 1) on the instances and then you can connect them into the environment by adding it to the P6 Configuration.
I mentioned you don't want to put all data into one final PMDB-Instance.

When I started reading your list, my gut feeling was, why Chieftec? But probably budgetary considerations were the main reason. For the PSU I would prefer a Corsair AX series or Seasonic gold label one.
I would have a look at the GTX 660 Ti with 4 GB VRAM. The extra memory would help with AE and 4D and in PR can prevent the rather ungraceful reverting to software mode if VRAM is depleted. Of course this depends on image size, but if the extra cost fits in your budget, it may be worth it.
If it fits in the chassis, I would look at a CPU cooler like the Noctua NH-D14 because of the bigger diameter fans. So, better cooling and less noise.

  • Please share your understanding and experiences on Picking Request Output.

    Hi,
Have you ever involved in any project which related to the 'Picking Request' Output IDOC.
Normally it is triggered from Delivery output and corresponding picking data will be sent...
Please share your understanding on how to trigger this kind of Picking request ouput from delivery processing.
For example, you are the person is assigned to explore an existing SAP-system. Your task is to simulate an order cycle and most important points is to trigger the 'Picking request' Output IDOC in delivery order. But you dont know what Sales order type,Dlv type is used. The only thing you knew is the picking request output type is ZXXX from delivery header output.
How do you find out corresponding sales order type/Dlv order type/Billing order type according to an output type name ZXXX.
First, i will share my ideas:
Through ZXXX we could get corresponding condition records, as there contain some info like dlv type/sales order type..kinds of combinations..Follow that, i will find already proceessed sales documents. Then refer those document to do the re-creation.
Please kindly let me know your ideas.
    Thanks!

    Hi there,
Define a new O/p type. Select EDI in Transmission in Default values of O/p type for external system. Select ALE for internal system.
Assign an access sequence to that.
Maintain the determiantion procedure. In the requirement routine, put a condition that it should trigger only after picking / packing is done.
Assign the O/p to the delivery type.
In WE20, define a new partner to whom you want to send the IDOC. Give the required details.
Define a new IDOC processing prog & assign that to the process code of the IDOC in the partner  profiles.
So whenever you do picking, the Op type will be trigered which will be processed by the IDOC prog & send it to the external system.

    Hi,
    1) With 11g recently becoming available, should we upgrade to 11g or upgrade to 10g ?You should upgrade to 10g, and apply the latest 10g patches.
    2) There is a white paper on Metaline (313418.1) that discusses using 10g with EBS. Is there anything similar for 11g ?11g is not available with the EBS. It has a different architecture and is not supported with EBS.
    3) Can anyone share with me how long the actual upgrade process takes (please specify if your timings are 10g or 11g) ? To upgrade you need to do a new install of Discoverer 10g and upgrade the EUL. Make sure you have a good backup of the EUL before starting. The Discoverer install is straightforward and the EUL upgrade only takes a minute. BUT although all the workbooks are upgraded they are changed in ways that you might not have expected. Parameters become optional, occasionally worksheets disappear, titles get corrupted, the SQL generated can different, may perform more slowly and may occasionally return different results. It is sorting out these issues and regression testing the workbooks that take the time.

  • Please share your IPv6 information needs.

Are you implementing IPv6 in your network? Please share any of your IPv6 information needs here. Also share any comments you have on the IPv6 Knowledge Base Portal.

    Hi John
If it's like previous years, you can register for as many sessions as you want, providing there are no clashes as you can't register for sessions that conflict or overlap with previosly booked sessions. It's always worth booking for those sessions that are of interest as some often fill and if you're not registered, you're forced to wait in a standby queue and might miss out entirely.
I only know as much as you do now regarding when the schedule builder will finally be available in that it's due sometime in July (which doesn't have too many days remaining).
Now my sessions will obviously fill quickly so make sure you book early or you might miss out ;)

  • Please share your PDF/UA-compliance experiences

I encourage others to share your experiences in remediating PDFs for ISO 14289 (PDF/UA) compliance. Let’s learn from each other’s experiences.
I am working with documents that previously passed the Acrobat checker and PAC 1.3 along with manual checks for WCAG 2.0 compliance – so, the documents were as accessible as I knew how to make them. Below are the errors that I am seeing quite a bit from the new PAC2 PDF/UA-compliance checker. The “fix” is not necessarily the best, just what I have found that seems to work. I am using Acrobat Pro XI.
    error: Font not embedded
fix: Tools > Print Production > Preflight > PDF fixups > Embed fonts
comment: This does not always work as some font licenses do not allow embedding. If you encounter non-embeddable fonts hopefully you have the source document and can use a different font.
error: Tagged content present inside an Artifact
fix: Open the Content pane. Open Artifact containers to find any content containers hiding inside. Drag the content containers to their proper place outside the Artifact container.
error: Alternative description missing for an annotation
fix: Add alt text to link tags.
comment: This seems an odd error. Some links benefit from alt text but others are perfectly clear without it. Seems like this should be a judgment call, but the Matterhorn Protocol insists on links having alt text.
error: Figure element on a single page with no bounding box.
fix: This error goes away if I tag the figure as an artifact, which makes sense. But if I then retag it as a figure and add back in the alt text, the error stays away.
comment: Seems odd. Even the Matterhorn Protocol PDF (http://www.pdfa.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/MatterhornProtocol_1-0.pdf) fails PAC2 on this point! This could be a rough spot in the PAC2 beta, not a real error, but is easy enough to “fix”.
error: DisplayDocTitle key is not set to true
fix: File > Properties > Initial View tab > In the Show drop down box, select “Document Title”
    error: PDF/UA identifier missing
fix: Create an xmp file that includes the required snippet of metadata (example: http://bygosh.com/files/pdfuaid.xmp). Then: File > Properties > Description tab > Additional Metadata... > Advanced > Append
comment: This should be the final remediation step, after the document is otherwise PDF/UA-compliant. To apply the PDF/UA ID to a document that is not compliant would be fibbing.

    Hi Wendy,
The requirement that all links include alternate text in the Contents key is frustrating ...
To the best of my knowledge, no current AT makes use of the Contents key alt text
No current tool makes it easy to create and configure the Contents key. To do so manually with a long set of links such as a table of contents is time consuming.
In a well-written document, link text is often quite clear in context, and alt text provides no benefit in terms of accessibility. This is almost certainly the case with a table of contents.
So, you have to make a choice. You can ...
Ignore this particular PDF/UA criterion and somehow live with the resulting scolding from PAC2.
Apply regular alt text to the links. This makes PAC2 happy but PAC 1.3 unhappy.
Patiently wait for the opportunity to shell out big bucks for a new tool that automates setting the link Contents key, like the "coming soon" PDF Global Access (new version of CommonLook with a new name) from NetCentric.
Bite the bullet and set the Contents key for each link tag manually. It is a bit intimidating at first to delve into the innards of the tag structure and make changes, but you will quickly gain experience and comfort level. This is the best solution if  you, like me, obsess with making both PAC2 and PAC 1.3 say "Pass". Just be sure, as always when working with Acrobat, to save early and often to a new file name, in case something goes horribly wrong.
If you choose the last bullet, the PDF/UA Reference Suite includes example TOCs. As to what should be entered for "Value", for external links I typically use the title of the target page. For TOC entries, following the examples in the PDF Reference Suite, the Contents key value mirrors the text of the link, for example "Chapter 1: Introduction".
    Hope this helps.

  • Please share your experiences moving from Quark to InDesign

My company's design group is pushing to move from Quark to Indesign, starting with one of my projects, which is our largest (400 pages), highest profile document (it is currently in Quark, and the plan is to pour the text and graphics into InDesign). Our schedule is very lean--leaving little room for surprises. None of the compositors in the design group have used InDesign. They are expected to recieve some formal training--but only about 1 week's worth total over a period of several weeks. I am all for making the transition to InDesign, but feel that the wiser path to take is to start on smaller and less high-profile documents that have more time in the schedule for the learning curve. However the design manager is adament that the transition will be problem-free. My experience is that any transition like this has bumps, and most are unexpected, and create havoc and panic. This document has only gone to print on time once (in 10+ years)--with me managing the project and with much sweat and tears. My hope that this year we could go to print on time AND do it with less wear and tear on all who work on it. I just don't think this will happen making this tranisiton now. Can anyone share their experiences when they made the transition?

Everyone else has had really good advice about starting with a 400 page doc, particularly if it's complex. If it's just text with a couple illustrations every 4 or 5 pages, it might be do-able, but if it's a complex document with lots of stuff on every page, it could be tricky.
Try this link for the official converter's guide.
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/indesign/articles/indcs3ip_quarkmigration.pdf
Some practical tips for the beginning XPress converter that I learned the hard way...
    - Cmd-shift-click pulls stuff off the master page.
    - The lack of master anchors may limit your ability to accomplish certain master page layouts (with prelinked text boxes) that are easy to do in XPress. Everyone here will tell you to simply use the margins to control your text flow, which may or may not work well for your particular case.
    - Always scroll around a document by holding down option+spacebar. This insures that you will get the scroll hand tool every time instead of accidentally inserting a zillion spaces into your text.
-Cmd-shift-A deselects everything in a text box so that you can select another tool. There is no next/prev tool shortcut, but rather keys for each tool. (T is text, A is the white arrow, V is the black arrow)
    - You "thread frames" rather than "link text boxes" despite how I wrote this. :)
    - Don't set text wrap to effect only the stuff underneath in the prefs because...
    - All text should go in a separate layer on top of the graphics layer because...
    - InDesign dynamically resolves transparency effects at print time, which means if part of your text is layered under a transparent element it may get rasterized.
    - If you need to get text to show even when it's on top of an object with a text wrap, select the text box and check the "Ignore text wrap" option.
    - Overprint Preview is your friend. It'll help show you all those things that you didn't notice were going to print strangely before you commit them to print. (Overprinting white type, etc)
    - When you're just starting out, so is the Flattener Preview because you will start to get a feel for what is going to be bitmapped and what won't.
    - XPress documents imported into InDesign should always be exported as Adobe InDesign Interchange and reimported one more time. .inx is the equivalent of the "thumb-nail drag" trick in XPress to clean up a document that is acting funny.
    - XPress documents with placed EPS files may come in with the "Non-printing object" attribute checked on some of the EPS graphics. There's a script floating around that Dave Saunders wrote to fix this. Also, turning Overprint Preview will help you spot this (look for the disappearing objects).
    - If you are placing EPS objects, be sure to set your import options to "Render preview from postscript" or your previews won't look right and/or may be deceiving.
    - Don't every base your paragraph styles off of "Basic Paragraph Style", because if it ever changes in another document your type will suddenly change when you paste it from one document to another.
    - Don't base anything off of "Basic Object Style" for the same reasons.
    - Your defaults change whenever your change the options in a palette/panel without anything selected. Curious why every new object you draw comes in with a drop shadow or a 3pt rule, for example? You accidentally set those options with nothing selected.
    - InDesign's paragraph composer may drive you (or your proof-readers) wonky because it will change the flow of text paragraph-wide if you redo a line of text. You can either adjust it for decent text flow and leave it alone OR turn it off by basing all your stylesheets on single-line composer. People in here will largely recommend option one, but if it doesn't work for your stuff, don't be afraid to disable it.
    - Make sure to upgrade to the latest CS3 update, because CS3 v5.00 had some fairly crashy behavior.
    - If CS3 feels really sluggish, try turning off page previews in the Pages palette.
    - CS3 and OS X 10.5 are not fully compatible yet.
Best of luck! It's not really that big a change, but everything is slightly different so expect a bit of time to really get your feet under you.

  • Please share your experience with the universal dock for iphone 3g

    Hi There,
    1. Can people share their experience of the universal dock with the iphone 3g adapter. My concern is that does the tight fit scratch the black lower back of the iphone plastic everytime we remove it or put it in? OR is there enough gap for the iphone to slip in and out without scratching.
    2. Anyone having issues with the universal dock or does it work fine for most?
    thanks in advance,
    cheers,
    Sunil

    Thanks for your advice.
I recently purchased a universal dock for my iphone 3g. It works great. I just had one question. When my iphone is sitting on it for lets say 20 - 30 minutes. Then if i press the buttons on the remote. nothing happens! If I then press the home button while it is on the cradle then, the remote, it plays music. There after lets say if I stop stop the music through the remote and again press the remote button after a few minutes it starts playing. So what happens after a long time. Why do i have to press the home button on the iphone for the remote to work. Is that how it is supposed to work???
    Thanks

  • ThinkPad X131e - please share your experiences

    Hello,
I am located in Germany and I tried to order ThinkPad X131e from the Lenovo Shop, but believe it or not: the online store cannot process the order. For Lenovo this should be a cause for embarrassment.
I think that ThinkPad X131e is just the kind of machine I have been looking for. But I have had a hard time finding a
single review of ThinkPad X131e online.
I was therefore wondering if those who have purchased this item could share their impressions and experiences.
    Regards,
    Novalis

It looks like it's unchanged from the X130e aside from the internals, which are barely an upgrade.
Either way, my x130e is built like a tank and performs on par for a netbook.
You can literally throw it at a brick wall and barely harm it.
The touchpad is pretty horrible though.

  • PureMVC, and the learning curve. Please share your thougths

    Hello Everyone,
So I have decided to get my head wrapped around the PUREMVC framework. It has been a week and yes some of it makes sense yet I still struggle with it. I would like to know if anyone else share the same sentiments as I do. I have been able to find couple online tutorial on it, but this one makes more sense than others:
    http://hubflanger.com/building-a-flash-site-using-puremvc/
What advice can you pass with regard to overcoming the learning curve. The more I try absorbing it, the more frustrated I get.
    Thanks a lot.

i've used the mvc design pattern (not puremvc) in projects and i'm learning to code for the iphone (which uses the mvc design pattern) and i still find it adds more hurdles than than it overcomes.
so, i wouldn't feel badly about struggling with that particular implementation of mvc.   and like everything, the more you work on something more you'll understand.  but the benefits of using a design pattern come in the future (maybe).  not while you're working on a project (unless it's collaborative).

  • Airtunes sound quality - Please share your experiences

I use a Powerbook G4 to stream mostly lossless classical music files to an Airport Express 802.11n linked using a standard cable to a NAD 326BEE amplifier (auxiliary input) and PSB Imagine B speakers. The sound is very good with not a lot of bass but I find that despite all the "sound enhancements" features of iTunes [8.02 (20)] being unchecked, the music is projected forward, overeager, too present vs. a portable CD which I also use from time to time. For a start, the maximum volume of this CD player has nothing to do with iTune's maximum volume which is sensibly louder but still, even at volume levels that appear comparable, the sound from Airtunes has a glow which can be fatiguing after a while. Are there differences between computers over Airtunes? Are some better than other? Any idea on how to improve the sound?

    Tesserax wrote:

Not really. The AX can only handle audio at a 44.1kHz sample rate, regardless of the source ... so switching devices shouldn't make any difference.
iTunes uses a QuickTime CODEC to convert audio files to Apple Lossless, and then, uses AirTunes to send them to the AX. In turn, the AX uses built-in software that converts the Apple Lossless to an Encoded Digital Audio format. From there, digital audio is sent to a optical transceiver to convert the electrical signal to an optical one before sending it to the innermost part of the audio port.
The AX works only with iTunes v4.6+ and is limited to music files that iTunes can read; ie, 16-bit data only. (An exception is you can use a third-party product like Rogue Amoeba's AirFoil to stream other non-iTunes sources.) These data, though, can be in any file format that iTunes recognizes, from lossy MP3s at the low-quality end of the spectrum to Apple Lossless and lossless AIF or WAV files at the high end. Again, it is important to note that the AX functions only at a 44.1kHz sample rate. When you play 32kHz or 48kHz data, iTunes sample-rate-converts the data in real time before sending it to the AX.
In all honesty I have no idea what half of that means.
I'm having the same problem, horrible Airport Express sound. And all of my files are Apple Lossless which is apparently a completely copy of whatever is on the CD.
kHz and sample rate is irrelevant as far as I know. It's Lossless. It's a straight up copy basically, right?
So why does it sound so godawful through Airport Express?
