Hyperlinks in Excel -- pdf, the hyperlink location is changed!

I am using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. I am creating a project with interlinked pdf files. Many of the individual pdf files are first created in Excel (Office 2010); the links to other pdfs are in cells on any given worksheet.
Most of this project was created some time ago with Acrobat Pro 9 and the hyperlinking worked fine; after we upgraded to Office 2010 the usefulness of the Acrobat add-in disappeared and I had info that the situation would be addressed in later versions.
This project is now expanding and I am back in this meandering file structure, and the company has invested in Acrobat XI.
Now, with XI, after I convert the Excel worksheet to pdf (using the add-in on the ribbon), the link actually changes. Where before it was pointing to files within the current folder-set on the company server, after conversion the hyperlink points to a (nonexistant) file on my local C: drive - C:/User/filename.pdf.
Can anyone help me? Am I doing something to make this happen?

I am editing the excel file within the same folder where the pdf will ultimately reside, and the link reads:
..\..\Manufacturer's Documentation\Mechanical\Martin_Bushings.pdf
this is exactly what the link reads when I look at it in Excel. I take the ..\..\ to mean it backs out of its current location to find the Manufacturer's Documentation folder, which makes sense.
After conversion, if I edit the link in pdf, this is what it reads:
File: C:\Users\Manufacturer's Documentation\Mechanical\Martin_Bushings.pdf
Should I make sure my original hyperlink reads from the top-down location on the server?

  • Using Document Sets when I add Default PDF the save location is wrong.

Using Document sets you can add "Default Documents" to load when you use this function.  The file are stored in a separate document library, template location.
Once the user uses the function the file deploy and show in the right folder.  The problem is when someone edits a PDF form from the folder and then tries to save, the default save location is back to the template location.  I've lock
the document but it a pain for the user to have to thumb their way back to the right place to save.
Is this just a Adobe vs Microsoft fight?

  • [Spartan] Does the cookie location is changed in Spartan?

Checked the cookie location by shell:cookies or shell:cookie\low, it seems that the cookie location is different with previous IE.
Can u specify the location of the cookies?

    Hi,
Currently, there's no much articles describing the details of Project Spartan since it is still on the way of development, I use Process Monitor and trace the process when deleting the temporary internet files and cookies in Project Spartan, the monitor
trace redirects me to the following location:
C:\User\username\AppData\Local.... (you need to show hidden files and system protected files under the "View" option) different from previous IE.
I also find location C\Users\username\AppData\Local\Spartan\Cookies, this is not shown up on my monitor trace.

  • The network location profile changes from "Domain" to "Private" in Windows 8.1.

I have a network which is centered around a Server 2012R2 installation with the Server Essentials Role installed. I have installed and configured a DNS server which points to the router and open DNS as forwarders.
There are 3 physical computers on my network and two additional virtual ones (the vm's are hosted on the server).
The server shows the domain profile.
VM1 - Server 2012R2 virtual machine core install hosting a SQL server - it shows the domain profile
VM2 - Windows 8.1 enterprise evaluation - Shows the domain profile
Desktop - Windows 8.1 pro with media center - shows the domain profile
Laptop - Windows 8.1 enterprise evaluation - shows private profile
Surface Pro - Running Windows 8.1 pro - shows private profile.
They all have network discovery enabled for all network types.
As I was writing this my surface randomly shifted to domain again. However my laptop shows private (I am writing this from my laptop)
This is a problem because it appears my devices are having trouble finding and discovering other network devices because of this.
All of the devices have the same gateway, dns settings, and subnets settings.
All of the workstation except the VM server have the server essentials connector installed.
Please let me know if there is any additional helpful information I can provide to get this resolved.

IMPORTANT: I found the solution.  Another user figured it out and posted the answer on another thread.
Please spread this around to all other Outlook support techs so they know to point people in the direction of the quick (though very obscure) fix to this problem.
See this thread for how to disable graphics acceleration in Office, which iswhat causes the rundll23 error.

  • 9.3.4 Update Broke HyperLinks to Excel Spread Sheets located on Same Domain.

I have created company procedural documents in PDF using Adobe Pro 9.3.3.
These procedures contain hyperlinks to Excel spreadsheets that are located on an Internal Domain File Server. When I click on the Hyperlink using Adobe Reader 9.3.3, Excel launches and opens the spreadsheet . Adobe Reader or Adobe Pro 9.3.4 won’t open the link. Adobe 9.3.4 pops up a Window saying the spread sheet cannot be found, make sure you type the name correctly so on and so on. I Click OK on the first pop up, a second Adobe Pop-up window opens saying "Could Not Open the file" followed by the correct path to the spread sheet. I just tested it on a computer running Adobe Reader 9.3.3 and the hyperlinks worked fine. I then Upgraded Adobe Reader to 9.3.4, absolutely no other changes, and the hyperlinks no longer work..Same pop up..Cannot find .xls"..."Could not open .xls"..
Hyperlink syntax being used is \\servername\sharename\folder\spreadsheet.xls . So what setting do I need to chase down in 9.3.4 to correct this? What changed in 9.3.4 from 9.3.3?

We are experiencing a similar problem with Reader 9.3.4
We have training products produced in Acrobat 6, as PDFs which have hyperlinks to run Flash movies (SWFs). The products are installed from CD onto users' hard drives.
The products have worked on hundreds of PCs and Macs, but as each customer updates to Reader 9.3.4 they report failure to open the SWFs.
The SWFs are organised in a hierarchy of folders depending on exact topic. All the movies are inside a "data" folder, then main topic folders, down to sub-topic folders.
I have found that the PDF hyperlinks will open a copy of the relevant SWF if it is placed in the same folder as the calling PDF, but not when it is in its rightful position down the path.
The initial error message shown when files are in their correct folders says e.g.  "Cannot find anchoring_one.swf" suggesting that only the filename is called and not the path. However the second message, displayed when the first is acknowledged, says e.g. "Cannot open data/anchoring/anchoring_one.swf" So the hyperlink IS outputting the full path, but somehow it it is being truncated to file name only.
Seems that the call is produced from the hyperlink correctly, and registers with the system as full path. Then the call is passed forward to a function which should actually open the file and here loses its path, so file-open fails and returns a "Cannot Find" message. The return code from this function is passed back as a failure, to the prior function which still knows the path. This prior function then issues the "Cannot Open" message, including the full path.
Is is totally impractical for us to rewrite and re-issue the programs in any other format, or stop thousands of independent customers from upgrading to Reader 9.3.4
I hope Adobe can fix this issue VERY quickly.

  • Has anyone been able to get a book's internal bookmark hyperlinks working when exporting the book as PDF?

When a PDF-version of a book is viewed within Preview, bookmark hyperlinks do not work, but they do work on iPad.
In this support page, Apple states that hyperlinks should work.
Has anyone got a successful workaround that doesn't involve adding hyperlinks, one by one, via Preview?
    Cheers,
    Tim

    Hi Ken.
By "Preview", I refer to the Apple Preview app on my iMac; 'Preview' displays the PDF but the hyperlinks within the PDF will not link through to their respective pages throughout the book. Each hyperlink displays underlines, and the 'hyperlink' mouse icon displays when hovering over a hyperlink. It's just that the links won't work. There are hundreds of bookmarks, so adding these manually from within 'Preview' is not a viable option.
    Any thoughts?
    Tim

  • Retain the hyperlinks of pdf in indesign

    Hi
When i import the PDf which has hyperlinks, into Indesign all the hyperlinks are lost. Can we have any way to retain the hyperlinks of pdf in indesign.
    Help me!
    Thanks
    Selva

No. Because InDesign and any other program that places PDF files can only read the layer of the page description, not the interactivity layer which contains the hyperlinks. Sorry.

  • In Textedit, how do I copy a hyperlink url, but only copy the link location and not the link text?

Suppose I have a list of hyperlinked internet URL's. I want to extract their Internet addresses -- the link locations --  which are essentially hidden in the link text. Is there any way to select and copy the list of hyperlinks, but only copy the link locations, and not the link text?
    For example, with the links:
    The White House
    Google
    One of my previous posts
What I really want to copy are: "http://www.whitehouse.gov/", "http://www.google.com/", and "https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2737556".

I figured out how to do it. First, copy the hyperlinks onto a blank RTF document in TextEdit and save the file.
Second, open the file from within TextEdit, and make sure that the box "Ignore rich text commands" is checked in the open file dialog box. In the open document, the hyperlinks from my example in my first post will look like this:
    {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\cocoartf1038\cocoasubrtf360
    {\fonttbl\f0\froman\fcharset0 Times-Roman;}
    {\colortbl;\red255\green255\blue255;\red0\green7\blue232;}
    {\info
    {\author Garald P. Weller}
    {\*\copyright Garald P. Weller}}\margl1440\margr1440\vieww20000\viewh14400\viewkind0
    \deftab720
    \pard\pardeftab720\sa240\ql\qnatural
    \f0\fs24 \cf0 \
    \pard\pardeftab720\sa240\ql\qnatural
    {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.whitehouse.gov/"}}{\fldrslt \cf2 \ul \ulc2 The White House}}\

    {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2737556"}}{\fldrslt \cf2 \ul \ulc2 One of my previous posts}}\
Third, use the Automator function, "Get URLs From Text," to create a service, which I called "Get URLs From Text," that receives text from any window, gets the URLs, and copies the result to the clipboard:
Fourth, select the entire page above, and go to TextEdit > Services to activate the "Get URLs" service.
Fifth, create a new TextEdit document, and paste the result.
The output is exactly what I wanted, the URLs -- i.e., the link locations -- of the three web pages, without the link text.
Another utility that will extract URLs is CopyPaste Pro, which has an innate ability to extract Internet addresses from either web pages or text pages.

  • Copying Hyperlinked Text from PDF to Word (or elsewhere)

    Hello-
I am at my wit's end, so I hope someone can help... I have a PDF with text that hyperlinks to a web page. It works great within Acrobat Pro, but if I try to copy and paste that text/hyperlink into an email, or word file, it loses the underlying hyperlink and only retains the text.
Example: The text would say "Click here to hear about Company X and Solution Y" and all of this text is hyperlinked to "www.google.com/companyx" or whatever. When I copy and paste that from the PDF into another application, I am left with the "click here" text, but not the underlying web page.
Here is the tricky part. I have found that if I select additional text that is not hyperlinked in addition to the hyperlinked text, and then right-click over the non-linked text, I get an option to "copy with formatting". Now I am able to copy/paste as one would expect. The problem is that this is not intuitive at all.
Can someone please let me know if this is a problem with PDF's, or if I can change settings when I Export out of InDesign? Or is there some other workaround?
Thank you SO much in advance!
    Dash

Here is a visual example of what I am referring to, showing the right-click location and the different options that appear. (The blue selection box is from me selecting and dragging around the question from a non-text area)

  • Hyperlinks in Excel output

I've seen many conversations on this topic but never a satisfactory solution.  So, I have excel hyperlinks that are built from an equation something like = Hyperlink(A3,"View"), where "A3" is the URL address (e.g., www.example.com) in a hidden column.  The idea is to display the hyperlink "View" in the column rather than the actual URL, which can run 40+ characters long.
When a .PDF is generated from this excel file, the hyperlink does not work.  My understanding is that this is because Adobe is unable to recognize the Excel equation as being a hyperlink.  One way around this is to copy the column with  he equation into another program, such as MS Word and then copy it back into Excel.  When the column is "laundered" through Word, Adobe can now recognize the formula as a hyperlink.
Unfortunately, when generating a lot of these documents with hundreds of hyperlinks, it is a slow, manual process.
Is there a way to have pdf that recognize the equation "=hyperlink(..." as a hyperlink in the pdf document?
    Thanks
PS: I was also trying to do this with hyperlinks in Tableau, but figured the Excel was the more likely to have a solution.

I've tried a number of ways, with several different products but typically, I use the "Save to Adobe PDF" option in Excel and then Convert to PDF.
If there is another way that yields gets around this issue, please let me know.

  • How to define the hyperlink command in the online help to go to a specific place on another page?

    Hi,
I run my online help (WebHelp) in an application in Firefox. When clicking a link on a page, I want to go to a specific section on another page. In the hyperlink I am using the #<bookmark> to go to the bookmark on the other page. This works in IE, but not in FireFox. Do I need to use a different command or do I have to change some settings in my browser to make it work?
    Thanks!

Does your page design use frames (classic frames or inline frames)?
    From past threads:
Make sure your bookmark doesn't contain a #. In other words, if the bookmark is Chapter1, Firefox will require #Chapter1 on the link, but if the bookmark is #Chapter1, then Firefox will require ##Chapter1 on the link.
If your page changes height after loading, for example, you use a script that collapses some sections, Firefox may go to the original location in the page instead of the updated location. The workaround for this would be to have a script in the page check the hash and scroll to the correct location after changing the height.

  • Email hyperlinks / converting to PDF

    Hello
I've got an issue when exporting a document from Pages to PDF - the hyperlink to my email address becomes corrupt by one letter. Visibly there is no indication that this is the case but it means that people responding to my CV have been emailing someone else. Unfortunately this address is also active so the sender does not get a bounce back and has no clue that I have not received the email.  How can I prevent this?

Revisit your document, and assure yourself that all characters of your email address are included in the hyperlink. Easy to miss one, especially when in a hurry, or with any eyestrain.
I just typed and hyperlinked my email address in Pages v5.2.2. It exported to PDF correctly, and the rollover information panel also displayed the correct, full address. True for Preview and Adobe Reader 11.0.09 on OS X 10.9.5.

  • Share to .pdf loses hyperlinks

    Hi
I have been trying to create a .pdf from Pages (ipad version) that contains hyperlinks.  The hyperlinks work fine in the Pages document, but when I Share it and convert to .pdf the hyperlinks no longer work.
I have installed Adobe Reader and GoodReader on the iPad but the links don't work in those apps either.
Does anyone have any idea why the hyperlinks are rendered inactive when Pages converts the document to .pdf?
    Thanks
