Hyperlinks in iBooks Author preview

I have created a hyperlink in iBooks Author (1.0.1) and it shows up and works perfectly when I click on it - i.e. Safari launches and displays the expected page on my iMac. When I send (Preview) the book in question to my iPad 2 (running iOS 5.0.1) however, the link doesn't work at all.  Is this because I am only looking at a preview of my book on the iPad and it will work when I publish it or am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Great work, Timmy.
Having solved that one, we now need to crack on with the following wish list:
- creating a touch screen accessible footnotes function
- a show/hide option for answers to review questions
- providing a starter set of notes at the editorial stage
- additional text editing functions not currently in pages
- touch-activated pop-ups on screen
- text resizing by gestures, like the Macbook trackpad
And the real biggie .. How institutions like our uni can serve course material on this platform (free at the point of use) but with access restricted to those enrolled in courses. Does anyone know if Apple has an institutional support business option.
It strikes me that the early adopters need to be vocal about how powerful this could be as an educational delivery tool as soon as IBA's teething problems have been sorted. Let's add to the wish list and build the teaching platform of the future.
Cheers,
MicroGnome.

  • Hyperlinks in ibook Author

I've just started using ibook author.  I'm trying to create an ebook.  I want to put in a hyperlink.  I have highlighted my sentence I want to use as the hyperlink.  I go to where you can add a hyperlink, copy and paste the link I want to use.
The problem:  when you click on the hyperlink, it takes you to a different location (one that doesn't work - says it's in a loop).  The link that this hyperlink goes to does not match to what I copied and pasted into the original hyperlink.

  • IBooks Author preview doesn't work

I have created a partial iBook using iBooks Author. When I follow the instructions within the application to preview on ipad my ipad doesn't show up in the devices pane.
    What am I missing?

I had the same problem. I solved it step by step as follows.
    1. open a new empty book, and then preview it to make sure the communcation between iPad and iBook Author is fine.
    2. if Step 1 works, try to export your book to .ibooks file (File>Export>iBooks). if this step cannot work, do Step 3.
    3. delete your book chapter by chapter (backup first) and then export to .ibooks. if the .ibooks file produced, there are something wrong in the chapter (just deleted one).
In my case, I found there are two background images in the Chpater page. After delete one of them, it can be previewed in iPad.

  • IBooks Author Preview Crashes!

i can preview a single chapter of my book, but whenever i try to preview the entire thing, iBooks crashes and i get the following wrror message: "iBooks Author quit unexpectedly while using the iBooks Author plug-in. iBooks Author quit unexpectedly while using the iBooks Author plug-in."  I have the same problem on two different machines.  Suggestions?
    thanks!

It's mostly text, with several (3-4) medium-sized images, and 10-15 small-sized images. no videos. 18M.
i imported it originally from pages.
i can preview every section, just not the entire book.

  • I cannot select the "Enable a hyperlink" in ibooks author. Anybody knows why?

I selected a word in the document and then followed the instruction to go to Inspector and opened the Link, but Enable a hyperlink was greyed out. Also cannot type anyhing in Add Bookmark. Doyou know why and how to do it right? Thanks.

    One thing comes to mind.
You created a text box with the words 'Type to enter text' already created within it. You then selected the text and typed to remove the dummy text and create your words. You then selected your word to hyperlink. If you use this process the check box to enable the hyperlink is greyed out and you can't use it.
under this scenario what you have to do is, when the text box is created, select all the text and press DELETE. Once you press delete, the check box becomes active.
Hope this helps in some way.

  • IBook Author - Publishing a book - Rejection from Apple

    Good morning,
I am trying to publish a book on iBooks using iBook Author. My submission has been rejected 3 times already. Not an easy ride. Sometime the explanation for rejection is quite generic and does not give much details about what is really wrong.
For instance I was told the widget did not work etc...whereas they are working perfectly when I preview my book in iTune Author using the preview function.
So I have removed all the widgets and resubmitted the book without widgets. However Apple says again that the widgets are not working. I am wondering if they have realised that the book no longer contains any widget.
The last ticket says: All books must contain the full and complete text and must not be missing chapters, referenced indices, footnotes, or other content
But again, when I browse through the book on iBook Authors preview, all chapters, section etc...are correct.
I am wondering whether this has to do with a set up in the "iBook Author Inspector fist tab (on the left hand side with the iBook icon). This tab shows "Document and TOC - Table of Content". Is there something I need to do in there ?
    Thanks,
    P0mme

Preview is not reliable.  Instead you should export your book to .ibooks format and transfer that to your device and open it using the ibooks app.

  • IBooks Author and iBooks

I am developing a book using iBooks Author (Version 2.1.1).  When the book is previewed on my iMac, the cover page (cover art) is displayed as a small image.   When I click on the book's image, the cover art is displayed larger for just a moment and then the book's contents are displayed.  Is there a way to see the cover page full size in iBooks under the iBooks Author Preview option?

A Preview is simply a basic PDF.
I suggest you export as an .ibooks file, then check that version instead, however, I think you've described the default for this process and note that the cover is not displayed when using the book.
If that's what you want, see this IBA User Tip: iBA Tips and Tricks 01 / How to make the cover image remain visible after the user opens the book...

How do I sync iBooks on iOS devices when I create an ebook using iBooks Author?

    Hello Ottoni1,
Thank you for the question.  You can preview the book you created in iBooks Author in iBooks on your iPad using the following steps:
Preview a book or a chapter on iPad
    Connect iPad to your Mac.
On the Home screen of your iPad, tap iBooks.
In iBooks Author, do either of the following:
Preview a book: Click the Preview button in the toolbar, or choose File > Preview.
Preview a chapter: Select the chapter you want to preview in the sidebar, then choose File > Preview Current Section Only.
Note:   To preview on an iPad running iOS 7 or later, you need iTunes 11.1 or later installed on your Mac.

  • HT5067 When using a Keynote Widget with iBooks Author, do the transitions and builds between Keynote slides appear in the iPad preview version of the iBook, or only in the finished product?

I'm using the Keynote Widget in iBooks Author, and the Keynote presentation uses the Magic move transition between slides.  When I preview the iBook on a new iPad, the Magic move transitions don't show up (i.e. the transition from slide to slide is standard, not Magic move).  Any suggestions?

Hyperlinks and magic move should work but don't. However I  found the following as a workaround for me. Use three slides instead of two to generate the magic move effect in Keynote presentations on Ibooks using hyperlinks only. As an example
Supose an object on  slide 1 was set as a hyperlink to go to a slide which then had a magic move effect to a third slide. For some reason it works on the mac, but not on ibooks. However you can create the magic move transition effect by simply adding a "dummy slide" as follows.  Suppose an object on slide 1 had an object which would hyperlink to slide 4. Duplicate Slide 4, and make the duplicate slide 5. Then set Slide 4  to automatically transition (with no effect) to the next slide (i.e. slide 5) after .5 seconds. Have Slide 5 set to transition to Slide 6 using magic move automatically after .5 seconds. By having the hyperlink point to slide 4 the magic move effect from Slide 5 to Slide 6 works fine (with a brief 1 sec delay). IF the hyperlink pointed directly to Slide 5, the magic move transition to slide 6 would not work.
For some reason having an extra slide makes magic move work even though it is not needed on the mac. I hpe this helps.

  • IBooks Author: How do you get the inset margins applied to the caption text of gallery widgets to preview correctly on an iPad?

Currently the inset margins I set for caption text in the gallery widget resets to zero when previewed on different iPads. These are galleries with different images and the captions are set to “individual caption per image” in the interaction panel.
BUT the inset margins will preview correctly if the gallery caption is set to “same caption for all images” in the widget interactions panel. How does one go about fixing this in iBooks Author? Would love to hear others advice or suggestions or work arounds. Thanks!

I found this article that shows the folder we are looking for is here --
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iBooksX/Data/Documents/AEAnnotation/
    per http://mjtsai.com/blog/2013/11/06/the-problem-with-ibooks/ and http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/beyond-highlighting-how-to-get-the-most- from-your-annotations--cms-20013
So I opened the files in TextWrangler to search for a word I know I highlighted in a particular book.  That helped me identify the correct file for the book I am concerned with.  I did a Time Machine restore of the file and got my notes back the way they were.

The arrows don't show up on the iPad, they are only to aid navigation within iBA. You can use boxes in the background to frame your galleries (as the background is off). I believe it's also possible to change the colour of the dots beneath the gallery too, although I forget how to do that right now.
About Apple's rigid UX – I agree that it can be frustrating. Apple intended iBA to be used by everyone, and the sort of design options and customisability we might want may confuse the less experienced user. Apple also wanted the UI for every book to be the same – from the point of view of the new user, once you've used one iBA ebook (or iBook, I'm not sure what Apple want us to call it), you can use them all. Otherwise end users would to get used to a slightly different UI on each book, which kind of works against the idea that ideally UI should be intuitive enough to be invisible. I can see the point in that. I have created a 'How to use' section in every iBA file I've made. It get's old quickly.
Oh, and (you probably know this, but…) you can choose your own custom icon for audio. It's limited, as it's only a placeholder image that allows you to play an audio file, there's no ability to pause the audio or stop it once you choose the view as thumbnail choice. Something I'd like to see changed.
Here's a link to Apple feedback page for iBA. Feel free to hammer it with your suggestions.

  • I deleted my ibooks author file but the preview is still available on my ipad, can I get the ibook back into ibooks author to continue to edit?

I deleted my ibooks author file but the preview is still available on my ipad, can I get the ibook back into ibooks author to continue to edit? I have not published anything, just previewed on my ipad but the file seems to be deleted from my imac which is what I was using ibooks author on. Any help is welcome!

It's not a 'process' at all.
If it was easy/straightforward, people would be turning store versions into iBA versions left/right and all **** would break loose. It's not and that's a good thing, sorry
Work up from whatever version you have.
Any work you value should be backed up....period. That backup should be used and tested regularly. Consider this a lesson learned, perhaps. Good luck in the future.
