Hyperlinks in Indesign/PDF

I created a newsletter in Indesign and used the hyperlink function to link some text and photos to certain items. I was able to link web addresses and an e-mail address with no problem. However, I linked a photo to a file on my computer. Bottom line is when you click on the logo the event flyer opens up! I exported it to Acrobat so I could email it as an attachment. Once in a PDF format, I clicked on the logo and received errors and the file wouldnt open up. I then used the PDF link tool and reset the file to the logo.  When I tested it, it worked fine. However, when I emailed it to myself to assure it sent properly.....I'm now not able to open up any of the files attached to the logos (other than web/email addresses). Is there a trick to linking hard drive files (which are PDF files) to where they arent lost once sent by email? Please help!
Thanks,
AW

Yeah the logo is part of the PDF. But I want the viewer to click on it to view a flyer that is not on the web. Would I need to just add the flyer as a page and link it that way? I didnt want to ruin the flow of the newsletter with the flyers not in the same scheme. I guess I could always place them in the same scheme and create another page!

  • Placing PDF with hyperlink in InDesign loses link

    Hi,
I was hoping someone can help me with this. I have a PDF that I've created a hyperlink using the Link tool in Acrobat. I've placed that PDF into InDesign hoping the interactivity will follow through. When I export the InDesign file to PDF, the hyperlink is lost. Is there a way to ensure that the hyperlinks get carried through?
    Thanks!

    Still.
Generally I think the engineering assumption in InDesign is that placed PDFs will mostly be images, not text, and certainly not interactive text. Of course that is less and less true.
You can always file a feature request (adobe.com/go/wish).
Yes, it is possible to export hyperlinks from a PDF...I would ask in the Acrobat scripting forum, I guess. But it's definitely technically possible.

  • Hyperlinks from InDesign to Acrobat

I am using CS3 programs on a PC on Windows XP
I'm trying to create hyperlinks in InDesign. When I export the document to a pdf, I clicked "include interactive elements." However, in Acrobat, it only makes the email addresses or web addresses active. The regular sentences and images that I linked are not active. Any suggestions? Thank you.

ah, I didn't notice the hyperlinks box as I was focusing on "interactive elements." Thanks!

  • How do I avoid the recipient of my Indesign PDF receiving a security warning when clicking on links?

I create PDF's out of Indesign to send to new clients. They contain links to external websites. They do not contain any javascript or videos or hidden links. If the PDF is opened in Adobe Reader, when the recipient clicks on a hyperlink in my PDF they get a security warning asking if they trust the site. How can I avoid the recipient receiving this Security Warning as it would scare people into thinking I had sent them something malicious when I haven't?

You cannot avoid it, that's part of the PDF security system to make the user aware that he is entering non-trusted area, as it is with every web page when it is opened the first time in Reader or Acrobat on this computer. ThatÄs an unchageable fact. You have to live with it.

  • Locate location of hyperlinks in a PDF document

I have a requirement, where I need to be able to location (X,Y coordinates) of hyperlinks in the PDF document. I understand I can convert PDF to text or XML but that does not provide me location of hyperlinks.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, you can create a script in Acrobat that loops through the links and adjusts the link's "rect" property to suit your needs. You'll want to consult the Acrobat JavaScript Reference, and look at the doc.getLinks method in particular: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.479.html
along with the Link object properties: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.802.html
Post again if you get stuck.
I don't know what control you have over this on the InDesign side of things. You may want to ask in one of the InDesign forums if you haven't already.

  • InDesign pdf not linking to web pdf

I've tried everything--so frustrated.  I create a hyperlink to a PDF on a website, but when I export the InDesign file to PDF, the links to the external PDFs do not work.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Open the PDF in Acrobat (full app not Reader). Click Start Form Wizard from the menu bar. Navigate to the link you want to connect to the web site and add a button. Like here

  • I want to bring in text from Word (and the web) that is already hyperlinked into InDesign. How do I do it while keeping the links active?

I want to bring in text from Word (and the web) that is already hyperlinked into InDesign. How do I do it while keeping the links active?
Whenever I copy/paste from web or Word it removes the hyperlinks.  And when I try to do it by "Place"ing a Word document into my InDesign project it keeps the formatting with it, the rectangles around the text.
I have the latest version of InDesign.
    Any help is appreciated.

Copy-and-paste may not include formatting. A regular import using Place is the best way.
The rectangles around the hyperlinks are just to indicate they are links -- they do not print, but they do show up in your PDF.
You can remove them by double-clicking the hyperlink in the Hyperlinks panel and select "Invisible Rectangle" as type.
Typically, Word hyperlinks are formatted -- blue text, underline -- with a Character Style. If you want to remove or change the formatting, all you have to do is change the character style. My experience, though, is you must check all hyperlinks because for no apparent reason sometimes they appear in the document without the character style.

  • How to hyperlink from a pdf file to a specific page in a second pdf file

I would like to setup a set of pdf documents, on the hard disk of a PC or Mac, that can be open in acrobat pro and have hyperlinks that jump to, and open in a new window, in acrobat pro, to a given page of a second document in the set.
It seems to me to be something that everyone would want to do and should be simple enough.
But I seem to be missing something.
I had partial success a few years ago using what I recall are the following general points:
    Create files in word,
    Use absolute address
    Use / not \,
Converting the spaces in the address to %20
Set the hyperlink base to “file:///T:/PdfDocumentsFolder/”
Add location with  #page=3 to end of file name,
Convert to pdf with acrobat pdfmaker
Open pdf with web browser into reader.(could not get it to work on mac with OS 9) by Checking Edit-Preferences-Internet-Web Browser Options-Display PDF in browser
This will allow the pdf to open to a given page, but only in the acrobat reader under MS IE, Not in Acrobat pro and not on a mac even in the reader.
Now I have a large (500) PDF documents with a very large number of comments and a key user switched to a Mac and can not automatically go to the page and would lose or have to transfer comments that have been made on the pdfs.
I have looked at and tried a number of things that have not worked:
Change all the links by hand:
    Tools-Advanced Editing-Link
    Action-Open file
I can not see where when Inserting a link by hand one can place the page number
    Action-Open weblink
Close, This can open a file,
If Edit-Preferences-Internet-Web Browser Options-Display PDF is checked it will jump to a page
But if it is not checked it will open in acrobat pro and not to the page
Does not seem to work on a mac
    Looked at acrobat javascript
Don’t seem to see any method that would allow a page number
    Under open document
    Open under a URL
    app.launchURL("Document.pdf", true);
seems to error if a #page=2 is add to file name
    Looked at security
Don’t seem to see that there is anything in the preferences that can be set to enable the jump to page action
Looked at privileged and non-privileged and did not see how that would help
    Looked at adding disclosed=true;
    function Disclose()
    this.disclosed = true;
Looked at Portfolios to see if some kind of group of documents would allow the jumps but could not find a solution.
I have not looked at bookmarks to see if I bookmarked every page “Pagexxx” and then jump to the bookmark would get around the problem.
So I am not getting the right combination and could use some help
    Thanks
    John
    Current Systems in use:
    Windows XP
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.4.4
    Or
Mac OS 10 Lion version 10.7.4
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.5.1
(note I have limited understanding of Mac’s)
    P.S.
In a similar vain within the word source documents I was able to get a hyperlinks to make the same kind of jump to a page using a VBA macro with the following call:
    Shell "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe  /A page=" & iPageNum & "&Zoom=125=OpenActions """ & sHyperlinkBase & sHyperlinkAddress & """", vbNormalFocus
After parsing the hyperlink and to get file name and  the page number
So I know acrobat pro can be called as an application to jump to a page

    Thanks for that information.
I did not see that the “go to view link” could change documents. I thought it was only within a document.
I manually added two “go to view links” and that seems to work on both mac and pc computers.
    That brings up two questions.
For old files can a acrobat java script batch file be setup to read the hyperlinks in a pdf document  and replace them with a “go to view link” style?
Can one place a “go to view link” style in a word document and then have the adobe convert to acrobat process it into the pdf format with the rest of the document? (or set up the converter to make word hyperlinks change to pdf “go to view links”?

  • How can I disable hyperlinks in a pdf

Sorry if i'm not posting this question in the most
    appropriate category.
I'm trialing Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional and I'm looking for
a way to disable the hyperlinks within a pdf.
Basically in my workplace we provide an information directory
using a touch screen monitor for members of the public to use to
research health conditions. I want the members of the public to be
able to access certain pdf files but not to be able to escape from
that pdf file. Currently if they click on a hyperlink (whether it
be an email address or even a linked picture) then they are able to
escape from what they are supposed to be reading.
From the 'preferences' - 'general' menu I have unchecked
'create links from URLs' which now brings up a security message
asking whether to allow or block the URL but this isn't the
    solution I was looking for.
I have read about putting a space part way through the URL to
fool Adobe so that it doesn't recognise the link as a URL but that
solution just isnt feasible in this case as there are potetially
hundreds of hyperlinks i would have to find and then edit (also
this wouldn't work if there are any pictures which are
    hyperlinked).
I'd be extremely grateful for any help with this problem.
Perhaps this isn't a feature available in Adobe 9 Professional and
someone might know which version I should be using.
    Thanks in advance
    Charlotte

  • Hyperlink in a PDF

Hi How do you program a hyperlink in a PDF doc to open into a new browers window?  When I am converting Word docs to PDF. If an exisiting browser window is open when you click on a hyperlink in the PDF doc it opens in the exisiting browser window instead of opening a new window.  How can I make it so the hyperlink opens a new browser window?

I am not sure if this can be changed for a PDF document, but you can change your personal Internet Explorer settings to always open up in a new window:  Tools > Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > Browsing (section) > Reuse windows for launching shortcuts (checkbox).  This is assuming that you are using Internet Explorer too, for other web browsers I am sure there are similar options.

  • Creating hyperlink to online pdf to a specific page

Is it possible to create a hyperlink to a pdf that's online to go directly to a specific page?

  • Why does it take 2 or 3 minutes to access a url from a hyperlink in a pdf document?

With either Adobe Reader locally or the plug-in on a website, it takes a huge amount of time for a url called by a hyperlink in a pdf document to appear in a browser window. Can anyone explain why this happens and, hopefully, how to fix it?

Yes, sorry about that. I am using Win XP Pro and Adobe Reader 11.0.08 and plug-in 11.0.07.79. The browser is Firefox 35.0.01. The problem goes away if I disable the Adobe plug-in and use the native Firefox pdf handler. The same problem also occurs in Safari for Windows.
During the delay between clicking the hyperlink and the target url's being displayed, the "not responding" error appears for the browser in question.
This happens on both my desktop machine and my portable (also running WinXP; the Adobe plug-in is 11.0.8.4)

Flash should be able to publish an html page which will provide the web page code needed for embedding the swf.  The page it publishes should be sufficient for planting on a server unless you plan to dress it up with other content as well.
As far as incorporating Flash content into a PDF using InDesign goes, you are best to ask questions about using InDesign in the InDesign forum.  Here is a link to the Overview page whee you can pick which forum applies best to your situation:
