Hyperlinks misbehaving in Firefox

Last week, when I was having a similar sort of difficulty, I
applied a RH patch that fixed a number of issues that were
experienced with the TOC in FireFox.
Sample TOC
Chapter 2
Topic 1
Topic 2
Topic 3
In some other topic, outside of Chapter 2, there is a
hyperlink to Topic 2. All hyperlinks were created in the RH
interface, using the default attribute for Display in frame. When
testing in Firefox, clicking on the link to Topic 2 results in a
brief glimpse of Topic 2, followed by a jump to the page for
Chapter 2. This happens with in other chapters as well.
This does not happen with every hyperlink to Topic 2, but it
does happen often enough for users to complain. It also seems to
have something to do with being the first hyperlink clicked in a
help session.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Gale

Known problem. Please report it is a bug as the more people
who do, the quicker it may be fixed.

The easiest solution is to avoid linking books to topics.

  • Hyperlinks work in Firefox not in IE

I am having trouble to get some of my hyperlinks to work in
IE. They work fine in Firefox but not at all in IE. I am using
relative links as the website will be run off of a CD that will be
sent to many people. My current code looks like this for the links
    that are not working correctly.
    <th width="156" scope="col"><div
    align="center"><a
    href="../../../meca.htm"><strong>MECA Training
    Home</strong></a></div></th>
    and the actual source is:
    D:\Work\Web Page\meca
    coming from:
    D:\Work\Web Page\media\meca\meca1\meca1
the links that are working look like this:
    <th width="235" scope="col"><div
    align="right"><a href="../meca2/meca2.html"
    class="style2">Next (Unmanaged)</a></div></th>
The links are set relative to the document. Anyone know if
there's a way to get them to work in IE and Firefox? Thanks.

    Happy New Year -
A correctly formed link will work in both browsers, and a
    broken link be
    broken in both browsers.
Are you clear about how each ../ in front of the path targets
    one folder
higher than the folder containing the page with the link?
Could you please upload and give us a link to a troubled
    page.

  • Some Hyperlinks on Safari, Firefox and chrome not working

after the recent update some hyperlinks on webpages are not working. I have a macbook pro with snow leopard.
After the new update i noticed that on some web pages the hyper links are there but when i click nothing happens. its like it is an object but not a link.
I tried Firefox and Chome and they all have the same issue.
    Any ideas? thanks

  • Odd hyperlink behaviour in Firefox

I wonder if anyone else is experiencing problems with hyperlinks in webhelp running on Firefox?
I have created a new webhelp system - nothing clever such as merging - just 70 or so topics. The help contains hyperlinks to other topics in the webhelp - these are left to page default (the intention being that they should open and replace the current page).
I have published the help to my C drive and am running it from there. When I select a link to another topic, the target topic opens for a second, then the help jumps to the parent folder for that topic. I just tried another webhelp system that I created a week ago (and was fine then) and it shows the same behaviour.
When I do exactly the same in IE, it works as expected.
I'm using Robohelp 7, Firefox 3.6 (it was the same with Firefox 3.5.7 so  I tried upgrading) and Vista (though I tried on a Mac and it's the same, so I've ruled out an operating system quirk).
I'm guessing this is down to a recent Firefox update...or have I just done something daft?

Well, curious indeed! It now seems to be fixed.
The sample file was fine, so that put paid to my Firefox ranting.
I was checking the generate settings for anything that might be relevant, and noticed that it was set to synch TOC automatically. I changed this to synch manually and published again - it worked fine in Firefox. I then set it back to synch automatically and generated again, and it is still fine.
I then repeated the above with an older webhelp system that was OK last week but not today, and it seems to have fixed that too.
Thus my highly technical conclusion is that the TOC got its knickers in a twist.
Many thanks for your help Peter - I now have the sample files in case of future turmoil...

  • In cannot open MS Outlook 2010 email hyperlinks to a Firefox window. Am I missing something?

Whenever I try to click on a hyperlink within a 2010 Outlook email I get this error: General failure. The URL was: "######". An error occurred in sending the command to the application.
Not much to go on I know, but I'm reading that my default web browser HAS to be IE. I don't like anyone telling me I have to use something when I really don't want to. I've been using Firefox for many many years and I want to continue. BTY, my OS is Windows 7.

The major cause of this problem is a corrupted Navigation Pane settings file – profilename.xml, where “profilename” is the name of your Outlook profile. A good sign that the
file is corrupted is when the size of the file is shown 0 KB. No one knows the precise reason why this takes place, but all versions of Outlook from 2003 to 2013 may get affected.
Other causes may be when you run Outlook in the compatibility mode, or if you are using a profile generated in an older Outlook version, or if the Outlook data file (.pst or .ost)
was removed or damaged as the result of faulty uninstallation or reinstallation of MS Outlook.
Follow the steps given below to resolve this problem
    1. Recover Navigation Pane configuration file
    2. Repair your Outlook PST file using Inbox Repair tool
    3. Create a new Outlook profil and import data from the old PST file
    4. Turn off Compatibility Mode
    5. Start Outlook in Safe Mode

  • Why don't my hyperlinks work in firefox?

everything works fine in safari. but not everyone uses safari, so…
was wondering if anyone has any ideas re what to do.
my site is kleinmarc.com. and the links that are the problem are the picture links in the alt section and the web section.
for whatever reason you can see that there are links there as the page is drawing up but once it's done the pictures go to being dumb and no ammount of clicking does anything.
I tried rebuilding the pages but that didn't work.
    help.

My two sites worked fine in firefox until today. Suddenly the navigation bar is no longer showing up. www.reallyreallybig.com works fine in safari but nothing else... ANyone else having this issue? Firefox or Apple just change something in their latest updates?

  • Is there a way to create hyplinks in documents automatically with firefox, as you can with IE?

Is there a way to create hyperlinks "automatically with Firefox, as you can with IE (with, for example, Ctrl + K, then go to the website, then back to the document, and it automatically populates the url)?

If you create the folders as a child within the main pictures folder, then they will show up in the app separately. I have many folders with pictures in.
You will need to move the photos manually - they will automatically go in the Camera folder.
    Hope that helps.

  • Mouse clicks not working: hyperlinks and closing tabs require multiple clicks

When I click on the "x" icon to close a tab the tab will not close. After clicking a second, or sometimes third time, the tab will close. Same thing happens with hyperlinks. Also, Firefox seems slow and lethargic.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • [extra:editors] nvu 1.0 with KDE mimetypes

    Introduction
The Nvu WYSIWYG web editor is available on two flavors:  the standard build which do not require KDE, and another one which use KDE to provide mimetypes icons on the Site Manager. This thread supports only the KDE mimetypes version.  For the non KDE version, look here.
Below is a comparison picture of both Site Managers so you can compare and decide then which version do you want to install.
Note: Both packages share the same directory structure, which means only one of them can be installed at the same time. That's the reason a conflict restriction exists between them.
    Pre Install Notes
    1. If upgrading from 0.80 or earlier, remove the .nvu dir in your home folder.  Already have 0.90 or later?  Can keep your dir and settings.
    2. Look the Change Log at the botton for a summary of the changes.
    Installation
    1. Grab a gziped tar from on AUR site here, or the splited files below:
    a. PKGBUILD
    b. mozconfig
    c. nvu.desktop
    d. mozilla-1.7.3-ft2.patch or get it from /var/abs/network/mozilla-firefox (or mozilla-thunderbird)
    e. nvu-0.70-domainfix.patch
    f. launcher.patch
    g. mozilla-ext
    h. nvu-browser-ext
    i. nvu-1.0PR-kdesitemanager.patch
    j. nvu-nonroot.tar.gz
    2. Create the folder to store the files with the name nvu-kde on your abs/local folder
    $ mkdir /var/abs/local/nvu-kde
    3. Put the files on that directory
    $ cp * /var/abs/local/nvu-kde
    4. Change to /var/abs/local/nvu-kde dir and build the package
    # cd /var/abs/local/nvu-kde && makepkg
    5. Install the package
    # pacman -U nvu-kde-1.0-1.pkg.tar.gz (Upgrading a previous version installed, or)
    # pacman -A nvu-kde-1.0-1.pkg.tar.gz (Adding or installing a new program)
    Post Installation & Enhancements
After installing Nvu and recommended prior to its first execution, but can be done anytime, visit this link which allow the normal user to add themes & extensions to Nvu and in fact, to all mozilla product line installed on your computer.
This step will not be included on the package until the changes explained on that HOWTO became adopted by other Arch mozilla packages.
    Troubleshooting:
Click the icon and doesn't run:  Run it from the console, and if you got a loop message with the phrase "Loading the extensions datasource", then as root type:
    $ nvu -register
and run nvu again as a user, and report your sucess or failure here.
Loading the extensions datasource message on shell:  Look above for the workaround.
    FAQ
    1. Browse button and help hyperlinks open mozilla-firefox and I would like to open another browser. Edit your /opt/mozilla/bin/mozilla-ext, comment the line exec $MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME/firefox $url and uncomment one of the other lines.  Currently you can choose between firefox, mozilla, opera and konqueror.

2005-02-13 (0.81-1) Upgraded to 0.81, nonroot patch replaced by nvu -register, new script to activate browse button and help hyperlinks. Locale dirs of win and mac removed.
    2005-02-05 (0.80-1) Updated to 0.80.
2005-01-19 (0.70-2) Freetype2 fix, file structure matches other mozilla apps. Mozilla-common dependency added.
2005-01-12 (0.70-1) First version with KDE mimetypes support.
    Hope you enjoy it.

New package for the 0.81 version.
In addition to the updated version, I made the following enhancements or changes to the package:
    1. Remove some locale directories bundle with nvu which belongs to mac and windows architectures.
    2. Added a mozilla-ext script which is execute a predefined browser either when the browse button is pressed or a hyperlink from the help menu entries is clicked.  Previous versions do nothing on those actions.  The default browser is firefox, but the file can be edited if your current browser is other.  Just edit /opt/mozilla/bin/mozilla-ext, comment the first browser which is firefox, and uncomment the one you want to use.
    3. The most important in terms of usage and future package maintenance is the replacement of the nonroot.tar.gz file with  the -register option.  That change takes out the most difficult and time consuming patch  of the package.  That means faster releases.
Since many changes were done to the package, please test it and post any success or failure.

  • How to remove browser warning message in HTML 5 Cap 8 projects?

How to remove browser warning message in HTML 5 Cap 8 projects?

My conclusion after a morning struggling with this, is that there's no point in suppressing the message if your html5 content then goes on to misbehave in Firefox (like mine does).  I've chosen to keep the popup, but change the wording to refer Firefox users to a completely separate Flash version.  The wording of the popup is also in CPM.js.
Before you all shout at me, no I can't use the multiscreen.html approach, because my Flash version will have to be non-rescaleable, because web objects don't rescale in Flash.

  • How do you HYPERLINK a web page address to an EXCEL document in Firefox like is possible in Explorer

How do you HYPERLINK a web page address to an EXCEL document in Firefox like is possible in Explorer?

When you follow a hyperlink in Excel, usually it should open in your default browser. You shouldn't have to do anything special in Excel to create the link when Firefox is your default browser compared with IE. However, the Insert Hyperlink dialog might work differently. I think it might be able to automatically pre-populate a URL from IE, while in Firefox, you need to copy the URL from Firefox's address bar and paste it into the Insert Link dialog.

  • Firefox opens when I click on a hyperlink in an e-mail in my Outlook 2003 program, but does not go to the URL in the link. It used to work before I re-installed my MS XP Pro 64 bit OS. Help!

At first, after I re-installed the OS, nothing would happen when I clicked on an e-mail hyperlink. So I went to Folder Options in Control Panel and associated Firefox with the E-mail file type. Firefox then opened when I clicked on a hyperlink in an e-mail, but just opens to the Firefox start page ("Blank page"). Firefox does not open the URL in the hyperlink. I need guidance as to how to restore this function which worked perfectly before I had to re-install the OS due to a corrupted program installer. I have run the MS Office Detect and Repair function twice--both times indicating that everything is fine--but it does not make a difference in fixing the Firefox function.
NEW: An attempt to click on the link in Security Center to go to Microsoft Update brings up an error message that reads: "The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context." I have no idea what this means, but I suspect it is related to the lack of ability to open Firefox to a link URL.
See the uploaded screen print(JPEG) below.

    # Yes, if you go to accounts.firefox.org, sign out, you will now be signed out.
    # Sign back in, and you will be asked to save the password you entered.
    # This will save the password and autocomplete if you have this option turned on.
I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it? But after storing the correct password you can manage any duplicate passwords in the password manager.[[Password manager - Remember, delete and change saved passwords in Firefox]]

  • Is a Windows registry error responsible for Firefox opening two browser windows whenever I use a hyperlink from a Word file?

Whenever I use a hyperlink from an MS Word document, Firefox opens two windows instead of one. The first window is the one I need. The second contains a message that the page could not be found and the address bar contains the URL appended with "Firefoxhtml/shell/open/command".
This problem is similar but NOT identical to one in MozillaZine headed "Windows error opening internet shortcut or local HTML file - Firefox". But none of the solutions in that article work for my problem: I've disabled all extensions but that hasn't helped. I've tried editing file types so that the DDE is removed (I'm not a teccie so have no idea what that means), but after following the instructions to the letter it doesn't seem to remove the DDE. Also I read that removing the DDE is not a good idea for people like me who need to open numerous firefox browser windows at one time. Furthermore, the MozzilaZine article refers only to problems opening a URL link in a MS Outlook email when Firefox is NOT running. My problem concerns the opening of URL links in MS Word when Firefox IS running!
I've run countless different virus programmes, rootkit checkers etc but they all come up blank. However, I did come across guidance on this website: http://antivirus.about.com/od/windowsbasics/a/shellopen.htm which suggests that something may have altered the shell open command for two registry keys used by Firefox.
    # HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile\shell\open\command
    # HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htfile\shell\open\command
The default value for each of these should be "%1" %*. But on my user, the default value reads:
    (for htafile) c:\windows\system32\mshta.exe "%1"%*
    (for htfile) c:\programfiles\windowsNT\hypertrm.exe"%1
What should the value be for these two files?
Can anyone sort this for me please? Bear in mind I'm not a teccie!

  • Hyperlinks from MS Word no longer launch a Firefox Page

I was just upgraded to the new Firefox 6.0 today and I noticed immediately that the hyperlinks that I've got in MS Word documents no longer activate when I hit Ctrl + Click. Previously, the corresponding URL was launched automatically in Firefox.
Is this a glitch with my computer, a problem created by extensions that were disabled with the upgrade, or a bug not yet addressed with Firefox 6.0?

The problem seems to have resolved itself. Possibly all I needed to do was reboot.
