Hyperlinks not working in PDF created from Word

I have created a Word document containing hyperlinks but when I print it to a PDF file (using Acrobat 7.0.9 on Windows Server 2003), the hyperlinks look OK in the PDF file but nothing happens when I click on them.
In Acrobat, under Edit > Preferences > Convert to PDF > Microsoft Office > Edit Settings, the "Add bookmarks and links to Adobe PDF file" option is ticked.
How can I get the hyperlinks to work in a PDF file created from a Word document?

The original post did not indicate the method of creating the PDF. The result that was obtained was what happens when you print to the Adobe PDF printer. To get the hyperlinks embedded in the PDF, you have to use the PDF Maker (create PDF in WORD 2007).

• Hyperlinks not working in PDf created from Keynote '08

When I produce a pdf from File > Print in Keynote '08, the hyperlinks do not work in the pdf. I have tried all the various pdf settings (even the ones that export hyperlinks) and no luck, the links are not working in the pdf. If I invoke the File > Export > PDf command in Keynote, the hyperlinks do work, but Export does not provide as much flexibility in PDF creation that File > Print does, thus my need to go to File > Print.
Any suggestion?

• Acrobat 9.5, file corruption when combining .pdfs created from Word or Excel (from Office 2010) into a larger .pdf document

In Acrobat 9, when I combine .pdfs created from Word or Excel (from Office 2010) into a larger .pdf document, there is data corruption. Some of the text appears as blank boxes when the pages are inserted into the larger .pdf, the main document. I have so far solved this by "printing" the files to .pdf, and then inserting them into the larger .pdf main document, but this creates a fatter .pdf file that is much larger than would otherwise be the case. Are there any other solutions within Acrobat 9, please? If this bug has been solved in Acrobat X or XI, please advise. Thanks.

As far as the images are concerned, that may be a result of your choice of job settings. You may want to use the Press or Print option if the image quality is important. I assume you are talking about bit images in this case.
As to the hangup, have you checked to see if AcroTray is active on your system? It may not be running as needed. In the meantime, try checking print to file and then opening that file in Distiller to complete the conversion to PDF.
Before you ever try a reinstall, you need to do a repair first to see if that resolves the problem. There are a lot of unknowns about your exact process for the printing and your job settings that may be part of the problem. The rest of your system setup is useful in some cases, but did not help me see your problem.

• Hyperlinks not working in PDF from ID

Hi folks:
I am currently creating a file in InDesign (CC 2014) and attempting to export it to a pdf. When I do export it, only 6 out of 15 hyperlinks work in PDF. The links that work AND do not work are both URLs and Emails. In ID all links function in the Hyperlinks panel. I have unclicked "Shared Hyperlinks Destination" for all links. It is not that the links are broken, it is that in the PDF version, half of the links are not reading that a hyperlink is attached.
Any troubleshooting ideas are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Jen

When you export with File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print), you need to check Hyperlinks at the bottom (see below). Hyperlinks are not included by default:

• Bookmark hyperlinks not working within PDF

I have added hundreds of bookmarks and created hyperlinks to each one. The hyperlinks function from within iBooks Author but as soon as I export to PDF, the hyperlinks stop working.
From within the PDF the hyperlinks appear as underlined text, and the curser changes to indicate that a hyperlink is present. But clicking on a link does nothing. However, external hyperlinks (to websites: e.g. http://www.site.com) function OK.
I have opened the PDF within Preview, Adobe Reader and also within various iPads. Apple indicate that bookmarks/hyperlinks work when exporting to PDF, so what am I doing wrong?
I've searched the net for solutions and it appears that I'm not the only one with the same issue - but no solution is present.
Any ideas?

• OpenType font won't work in PDF created from PM 7.0.1a file

Per my client's request, I had to purchase a lovely new OpenType font, AJenson Pro, for a book project I'm paging using PageMaker 7.0.1a in Windows XP. First it wouldn't print on my postscript HP laser printer, but downloading an updated printer driver from the HP web site easily fixed that problem. But I have done everything I can think of and I can't get the new font to appear in a .pdf created using Acrobat Distiller 5.0.5, which came bundled with PageMaker.
The font shows up in the finished .pdf as boxes with X marks in them instead of letters! I'm not trying to use anything but standard characters (no glyphs, etc.) in the font. I've been using PageMaker and creating .pdf files in Acrobat Distiller 5.0 for years and have had no problems until I got this new font. Adobe Type Manager shows that it is installed and it looks great on the screen.
I purchased the entire AJenson Pro font family from MyFonts.com, so I have bold, bold ital, etc. Their technical support couldn't suggest anything I hadn't already tried.
I'm planning on upgrading my PageMaker to InDesign soon, but I'll need a new computer to meet the minimum system requirements so I've been putting it off. I'm afraid to even download the free 30-day trial on my older computer. Any suggestions on how to get this OpenType font to work in a .pdf created using PM 7.0.1a and Acrobat Distiller 5.0, or do I have to upgrade to InDesign right away? I need to be able to create a .pdf so I can e-mail proofs to my client and eventually to send the finished book to a commercial printer. Thanks!

I have had this same problem myself with most Open Type fonts. It's very irritating, because it seems like most of the new fonts are being issued exclusively in Open Type.
I have developed a work-around, which you can attempt at your own risk.
Purchase the software FontCreator (I use FontCreator 5.6 Home Edition). It's not very expensive.
Open the problem font in FontCreator, and save it with a different name. In the process of saving it, the font will be converted to a TrueType font. Install the new version of the font. In my experience, you can then successfully use the font in Pagemaker, and convert it to a pdf.
This is not a perfect solution because there will be a *very* slight diminishment in the crispness of the lines of the font -- but this is only visible when the font is magnified to something like 6400% in Acrobat. It is not visible to the naked eye, or at least not to my naked eye.

• Spry drop down menu not working after page created from template

Hi all.
I created a template and the drop down Spry menu is working fine on local testing on my browser as follows:
I then created a New Page from this above Template. I did no alteration to this new page and just saved it as index.html but when previewing it in the browser, the Spry drop down menu is not working and the page displays as follows:
Here is my site map:
Any help to show where I am going wrong would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Dear Nancy
Very grateful for your reply.
On Design View and Preview in browsers the index.dwt page spry works fine.
When I create a child page from this template page, the child page looks fine in design view but does the spry fails to preview in browsers (the spry just shows as words and not drop down menus).

• Bookmarks and Hyperlinks not Working in PDF's

Hi,
I have 2 pdf files, one has extensive bookmarks which do not work. The other pdf has anchor links to refer you to certain areas in the document some work and some do not. How can i fix this in Acrobat Pro 11

Hi,
Thanks, I have found the actions details and can set the pages I want. The
other file has hyperlinks to anchor text I think, not bookmarks, but when
you right click there is no info given only document properties. Any idea
how I can fix those links in the pdf. And again thanks for your help.

Perhaps, you could load the scanned document in photoshop, photoshop elements or even in Corel's Paintshop Pro. All of these programs can be downloaded for trial use for 30 days and you never know you could be tempted to buy them because they are so good that you would want them to do wonderful things with them.
Good luck.

• Hyperlink not work in PDF forms on the iPad

I have created a form using Acrobat XI Pro and have added a hyperlink to a web site, this link works when using the form on a mac or PC but not when using the form on reader on the iPad.
Is this a acrobat limitation? Is there a work round?

I assume you are using the "create a web link" function. One thought: make sure it is a strictly correct URL. For instance, make sure it starts with the seven characters http:// even though certain versions of Acrobat will fix this error when you click.

• How can I correct spacing issues in PDFs created from Word 2010?

I have already changed settings to Press Quality as well as embedded all fonts possible yet I am unable to fix this error.
As an example of what occurs throughout the PDF after conversion please see the image on the left (Original DOCX) and the image on the right (Converted PDF).
The spacing is not uniformly altered and in some cases the spacing is reduced, as in the word "efficiency" and in some cases spacing is increased, as in the space between "energy" and "efficiency".

It looks as if Word (not Acrobat) is doing some advanced typographical adjustment. Certain fonts contain a specially designed ffi single character.

• WhiteSpaceCollapse not working on textFlow created from HTML

Is there a trick to getting whiteSpaceCollapse to work with imported HTML? Here's my current code, where value is HTML text (e.g. "
Blah
.."):
textFlow = TextConverter.importToFlow( value, TextConverter.TEXT_FIELD_HTML_FORMAT);
textFlow.whiteSpaceCollapse = WhiteSpaceCollapse.COLLAPSE;
I've also set whiteSpaceCollapse on the RichEditableText to "collapse" but I'm still noticing vertical space differences if my external HTML has linebreaks between

nodes. Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
-Robert

this is the way to solve this bug and no need for changing any xml settings , simple and it works
exporting the textflow:
var richTextXML:xml = new XML("<"+"richTextXML"+"/>");
richTextXML.appendChild(getCdataXMl());
private function getCdataXMl():xml{
var textFlowStr:String = TextConverter.export(textFlow,TextConverter.TEXT_FIELD_HTML_FORMAT
, ConversionType.STRING_TYPE).toString();
var textFlowXMl:xml = new XMl(""+textFlowStr+"");
return textFlowXMl;
importing TextFlow from XMl :
var htmlTextInStr:String = richTextXMl.text();
var importtedTextFlow:TextFlow = TextConverter.importToFlow(htmlTextInStr,TextConverter.TEXT_FIELD_HTML_FORMAT);
textArea.textFlow = importtedTextFlow;

• Hyperlinks in PDFs made from Word no longer work

PDFs made from Word documents containing hyperlinks used to be no problem. I can still make PDFs from Word (using the 'Save as PDF' in the print driver), and the links show up as underlined blue text, but they no longer work.
It's been several months since I last made a Word doc with links and successfully converted it to PDF in this manner, but I can't imagine what might have changed.
Any ideas?

Hi there,
Just wanted to correct a possible misconception.
There is no PDFMaker ribbon available for the 64-bit version of Office 2010. However Acrobat is compatible with Office 2010 in that you can still create PDF files using Acrobat X by printing to the Adobe PDF printer.
To the original poster, could you upload a sample Word file?
Thanks,
David
