Hyperlinks Opening Another Document

I am trying to work with my hyperlinks in CS6. Everytime I try to do anything (update a hyperlink, add one, assign one to text), InDesign wants to open up an older file and reference it. For each time I click on anything in the hyperlink panel, It will go through all the existing hyperlinks, open the old document and briefly says "converting data." It takes about 5 minutes to run through for every click I made. I don't want this document referencing an older document at all. How can I get the hyperlinks to unassociate from the old document?
Thanks.

Thank you for your help.
The hyperlinks are just web URLs. Why do they need to associate to another document at all? The file it's calling on is a CS5 document. The file I'm working on now was originally a CS5 Template, resaved as a CS6 template and used to create the new document that I am in. Is there any way to dump all the links so I can recreate them? In the meantime, when it finally frees up, I will try renaming the file, but that's not a permanent solution as I need to create new files regularly based off the same template.

  • Add a hyperlink to another document? CS4

    Hi,
How would one add a hyperlink to a document that refers to another document?
    The basic is:
    myDoc.hyperlinks.add(myHyperlinkTextSource, myHyperlinkTextDestination);
How do I get "myHyperlinkTextDestination" if it exists in another, unopened InDesign document?
I suppose I could open the document, get the Hyperlink destination, and then close it again, but in the UI this is not necessary (you simply browse to the required file and can then choose from a list of hyperlink destinations in that file). So how is this scripted?
    Thanks,
    Ariel

    Next, I tried this:
I opened the document and got it's HyperlinkTextDestination.
Then I used it when adding the hyperlink to the main document:
app.activeDocument.hyperlinks.add(mySource, myDestination) //myDestination is a hyperlink destination in another document.
And I get the following error message:
Cannot set this property to an object in another document.
So I'm clearly on a wild goose chase here.
But obviously this is possible since it is doable in the UI.
    Any and all help appreciated!

  • Links to open another document not working on PC

I created a pdf index for a bunch of documents (pdfs and Word docs) with links to open each of the files listed in their program. Works great on my Mac and on another Mac in the house. Client cannot get the links to work on his PC with WIndows NT. I dug out an old PC which also has NT and am having the same problem. Upgraded to Reader X but the links still don't work. Any ideas about how to get the links to work on a PC? Would it work on a newer operating system?

    George,
Well I do not know. I just opened the files with whatever came with the iphone.
Do you know if there is an "upgrade", to call it that or a specific viewer? or some where that you know
that I can read about it?
Converting our website to touch devices seems that there is that 1% that does not work.
    Thank you

  • When I click on Pages I get an old document and the spinning wheel, I can't create a new doc, open another doc, or edit the one that does open, what do I do now?

I go to the Pages application and click on it, and instead of getting the normal Pages menu I get an old Pages document and the spinning wheel.  I can't open the menu bar, can't create a new document, can't open another document, can't access the menu.  All that happens is the spinning wheel, it's been thirty minutes now and it's still spinning

    Menu > Apple > Force Quit… > Pages
Try opening Pages with the shift key held down.
To escape what is happening in Pages if you can't get at the menu, click on your Desktop then come at the Apple menu by sliding around from top right.

  • Hyperlink with an action 'Go to a page in another document' in IE browser.

When the PDF Document is opened in IE, Clicking on a Hyperlink with an action 'Go to a page in another document' is not navigating to the proper destination page.
This happens when the destination document is already opened in IE once and cached.

    Hi Vinayaka,
I am unable to replicate this at my end. I am using Acrobat 11.0.10 on Windows 7 and IE11
Below are the steps I followed :
Create a link and select the "Custom link" option, click "Next",  select the "Options" tab, select "Go to page view", click the "Add: button, open the file to the page you want to link to, click the "Set link" button.

  • Adding hyperlink in Infopath custom list which opens pdf document available in document library

    Hi,
I have a custom list(modified in InfoPath 2010) and a document library having 2 pdf documents.
In the Custom list, i have used the attachment option for another field.
How to create a link in the InfoPath list, which when clicked opens the corresponding pdf from the document library?
    How to achieve this?
    Thank you

    Hi Venkatzeus,
From your description, you have a list and attachments for the list are uploaded to a document library. To display the hyperlink in InfoPath form, you can directly use 2 Hyperlink controls. And give the document' URL in this control using formula.
I’m not sure how you upload the list item attachments to another document library. But make sure you have made a connection between the list item and attachments in document library. Here is an example.
    ListTitle         ID
    Item1     1
    Item2     2
Pass the ID to the document library when we create the attachment.
    Document Name             ItemID
    attachment1 for item1    1
    attachment2 for item1    1
    attachment3 for item2    2
    attachment4 for item1    1
    attachment5 for item2    2
So here, we can see attachment1, attachment2, attachment4 are item1’s attachments and attachment3, attachment5 are item2’s attachments, because of ItemID.
    1. Create a new column for document library, named it DocumentURL.
    2. Create a workflow and set to start when new item is created automatically with following action.
    Set DocumentURL = http://server/topsite[%Current Item:URL Path%].
    3. Custom list form.
        1) Add a data connection to receiver data from document library.
        2) Insert document library connection as repeating section.
        3) Add a hyperlink control within the repeating section (Insert > Hyperlink).
        4) Select DocumentURL as the data source for Link To and Display options.
    4. Add a formatting rule to the repeating section control.
If ItemID in document data connection is not equal to ID in Main data connection, then hide this control.
    5. Done.
Let me know if you have any question.

  • Hyperlink a word in one pdf to open another pdf on a mac?

Hi, I have been trying to find a program or app on my mac that will enable me to click on a word in one pdf file from my documents which would then open another pdf file in my documents.  I can't seem to be able to do it on preview via the hyperlink or adobe reader, can anyone help? I assume this would be easy to do on Acrobat X Pro? Any alternative (cheaper/free!) options would be great.
    Thank you!

With Adobe Acrobat you can add links.

You can insert hyper-links in PDFs in Preview by clicking on Tools > Annotate > Add Link. The key is to point the link at the local file. The link should start with "file://" followed by the complete path to the file you want to open (e.g.: /Users/Your_Account/Documents/whatsitsname.pdf). In other words, the complete link will be: "file:///Users/Your_Account/Documents/whatsitsname.pdf".

  • Will not open a document from a website in another tab.

When I am trying to open a document from a website link, a new tab opens in the link but the document is not there, the screen is blank. This happen EVERY time. For example, I just wanted to print a coupon from a department store and I clicked on the link, it opened in another tab and it was blank. The way I solve this is I open up Safari or Google Chrome and open the website and I can then get the coupon to show up. Other people have had this same problem with Firefox. I work at a store that uses printed coupons and people come in and tell me this. This also happens with PDF file links.

  • Not able to copying files/folders from one Document Library to another Document Library using Open with Browser functionality

    Hi All,
We have SharePoint Production server 2013 where users are complaining that they are not able to copy or move files from one document library to another document library using “Open with Explorer” functionality.
We tried to activate publishing features on production server but it did not work. We users reported following errors:
Copying files from one document library to another document library:
Tried to map the document libraries and still not get the error to copy files:
In our UAT environment we are able to copy and move folders from using “Open with Explorer” though.
We have tried to simulate in the UAT environment but could not reproduce the production environment.
Any pointers about this issue would be highly appertained.

    Hi John and all,
One the newly created web applications that we created few days back and navigated to document library, clicked on “Open with Explorer”, we get this error.
We're having a problem opening this location in file explorer. Add this website to your trusted and try again.
We added to the trusted site in Internet Explorer for this web application, cleared the cache and open the site with same document library but still get the same above error.
However, another existing web application (In same the Farm) that we are troubleshooting at the moment, we are able click on “Open with Explorer”,  login in credentials opens and we entered the details we are able to open the document
library and tried to follow these steps:
From Windows Explorer (using with Open with Explorer), tried to copy or move a files to
    source document library.
From Windows Explorer moved this file to another destination document library and we got this error.
What we have to achieve is users should be able to copy files and folders using
Open with Explorer functionality. We don’t know why Open with Explorer
functionality not work working for our environment.
    Are we doing something wrong?
We have referred to following websites.
we hope concepts of copying / Moving files are similar as SharePoint 2010. Our production environment is SharePoint 2013.

  • Another "there was an error opening this document. this file cannot be found"-question

Hello people, as the title suggests, i have another question regarding the "there was an error opening this document. this file cannot be found" error. I have searched on Google and on these forums but i havent found an answer to my particular case (sorry if i overlooked it).
I work at a supportdesk for a company that uses Windows XP with Adobe Reader version 8.1.3.
Users are getting this error when they access a PDF file placed on a (mapped) networkdrive. Contrary to some other cases i have found on this forum, spaces are handled without a problem. But a comma in the name of one of the folders that contain the PDF file are what causes this error.
    i.e.:
Opening the following path results in the error:
    L:\X, Y & Z\adobe.pdf
Removing the comma so the path becomes:
    L:\X Y & Z\adobe.pdf
    works just fine.
So far our workaround has always been to simply remove the comma and move on, but I've been wondering why this comma is such a problem for Adobe Reader. As far as i know Adobe Reader is the only program we use that has this issue, M$ Word works just fine with it to name an example.
    To sum my questions up:
    - Why is comma (,) a problem for Adobe Reader?
    - Have i missed any patches/new versions where this issue has been addressed?
    - What is Adobe's stance on this, and are there any plans to "fix" this?

Ok, nevermind, we just found the problem
It's not Adobe Reader that is causing this, but another program the company uses to manage/distribute/authorise programs that users are allowed to access (Scense). I had never even considered another problem could have caused this for Reader.

  • There was an error opening this document. This file is already open or in use by another application

I cannot open any PDF documents. I receive one of two error messages:
"There was an error opening this document. This file is already open or in use by another application."
"This file is in use. Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program."
I do not know how to open the document in another program, so I am perplexed how it could be open in another program.
I tried Repair the Adobe Installation from within Adobe Reader and from the Control Panel (Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features\Uninstall or change a program) using the Change option. I'm assuming they are the same process, although I'm not sure. Neither method worked. I rebooted after each.
I'm at work at a huge federal agency, so we're of course on a network. It takes several days to receive agency IT help, which is why I'm asking here. I can open Word and text documents. Nothing else seems to be amiss on the 'ol pc.
    Adobe Reader 11.0.05
    Windows 7
As you can tell, I have only limited knowledge of the possible issues.
    Thanks!

    Shared network drive.
I was not able to open the PDF documents via Notepad.
Interestingly, and perhaps supportive of your hypothesis, I subsequently had problems with Outlook wherein I could not save or close an email I was writing because "you do not have permission." I rebooted my computer and now Outlook works fine (and it save my email, thank goodness), and I can open PDF documents.
Hopefully it will stay this way. If not, I'll be back!
Thank you very much for offering to help.
    All the Best,
    Mark

  • How do I create a hyperlink to open a document in a new window?

My operating systems is: Windows 7
    Using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI
I have created a user guide in MS Word 2013 which contains hyperlinks to other documents.
I print to PDF but the hyperlinks are no longer accessible as they are converted to text once the guide is turned into a PDF.
Adobe Tools has a Add or Edit Link tool; I have tried several times to create a link using this tool with no success.
The documents I am trying to open are located on a intranet sharepoint site.
Please help if you know how to add a hyperlink to open a document from a weblink.
    Thank you

    Of course.....
Yes I entered the correct URL however once I click on the link in the PDF nothing happens.
The only change to PDF is a pretty blue box surrounding what should be the hyperlink.
Any other helpful suggest that are not the obivious?

Help, I ca not opening the file, beacause the mac says Error opening the document, Acrobat can not open the while printing another document

Thank you very much for your replies Taggert_77 & swmtgoet_x :D
Taggert77_: I have never used NetBeans. I only installed it in the bundle as I had read on another post that somehow installing the bundle magically helped another user with the same problem (he didn't know why it worked after that either).
Before XP SP3 I was able to execute .jar file through cmd prompt. Now I am not.
This file is executable, grab it and you will see. Here is a screen shot (program in front is FlashFXP, behind is the cmd prompt and what should happen):http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/53273b4ddf.jpg
swmtgoetx_: I only did the other cmd's to try to make it spit out something, anything lol :D
The proper cmd is simply: java -jar soht-client-0.6.2.jar
I did give your cmd a try, and it produced nothing :( (just like the other correct cmds)
    java -client -jar soht-client-0.6.2.jar soht.properties
    Thank you again...the mystery remains
PS. If you do a search for this you'll find an amazing amount of XP SP3 users with the same problem and no solution posted that I could find except one chap that did the unistall install order that I did above).
