Hyperlinks opening files in internet browser

Hi,
I'm going to get straight to the problem I seem to be enountering....
I am running Adobe X 10.1.3.
What we have on our system, is a load of documents, which get created in MS Word 2010. In these documents are hyperlinks, to individual .pdf files which are stored on an always acessible network drive.
I am aiming to print all my documents to .pdf versions (so that people can't accidentally edit them) and this will/should allow easy hyperlink navigation between linked files.
However... If I open the index file in Adobe Reader, and click a hyperlink, it is automatically opened in Internet Explorer?? which really thwarts my whole plan. The same index file opened in MS Word 2010, will (hyper)link to the file itself, opening it in Adobe Reader X.
I have already googles this, and have checked my hyperlink 'type' by hovering in Adobe Reader X, it says "file://xxx/xxx/xx.pdf" so Word is not creating url-type hyperlinks...
I don't understand why then these links are opening in IE...?

ok, would you mind telling me what that is? I dont have acrobat (seems silly that you would need it for hyperlinks seeing as they are already registered in the word pdf exporter
I am going to optimistically try to put them into word and see what happens, not expecting great things though.
I am still a little confused about this, they hyperlinks are to files, I know they are... If I open them from the word .doc they will open the pdf in adobe reader. Also, if I link to a folder (in the explorer/finder window) this link will open that folder in explorer using both the .doc and the .pdf to travel there. This implies to me that it is hyperlinks to other pdfs which are getting corrupted for me, coming from pdfs.
Just disproved myself as I wrote that, hyperlink to picture was opening too in IE when I accessed it from the pdf...
So: MS Word is making nice hyperlinks, the the files, which open the file in it's native program (ie Pictures in win pic*fax viewer, pdfs in adobe reader etc) However, when I export word doc to pdf, these hyperlinks are being changed to url-style hyperlinks...
Any ideas? (and again, thanks for your input Test Screen Name, I have never forked out for Acrobat so don't knw the in's-and-out's of the program...

Problem with 9.3 Reader when opening files from internet

I keep receiving the message 'There is a problem with Adobe/Acrobat Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again' when trying to open come files on the internet. I am able to open files from my hard drive and some files from the internet. I have uninstalled and re-installed Reader, but get same result. Any ideas?

As I posted on Feb. 19 this is what works for me. OS is Windows 7 64-bit, AdoveReader 9.3.1., IE8.
Open Adobe Reader,
            go to edit menu,
            under Preferences
            go to Internet, uncheck "Display pdf in browser"
The pdf files then open, but not in the browser
or if you have Google tool bar installed:
On the Google tool bar
                        click on the options icon (a wrench)
                        go to Tools
                        scroll down to the bottom
                        uncheck Translate
Or uninstall the Google tool bar.
Pdf files open without a problem in Firefox.
All of these solutions are easy.

Will not open anymore, asking is I want to open file in Internet Explorer.

I was upgrading my firefox to 5.0 and after that my comuter told me a had a virus threat. I pressed: to put the treat in the "vault" for further dicition, and it starded to remove the threat instead. When it was done and I tried to start firefox again it didn't work. I tried to download it again but it won't start it. It keeps asking me if I want to open the file in "Internet explorer". even if I go to "all progams" and click on it there it wont open. What can I do to make it work agan??? Do I have to delete it and reinstall everything??? The window I had open is still working but I cannot open another window. I really like firefox so I want to fix it!

Open file in internet expolorer

I have created a jbutton, and from this i want to open a file in internet exploror. ie, c:\test.html
how would i go about doing this

Preview opens files under the browser

(This question was asked in the Printing and Faxing forum first because it dealt with Preview. Someone thought it would be more appropriate here.)
Hi,
When I download a file that Preview opens, Preview will open it and then my browser (Camino) will then appear on top of the opened file (and Preview will be the last app I have to tab to to get to it, even though it is the MOST RECENT app used...). How can I get whatever app opened my downloaded file to stay on top? I think Real files work ok. I am not sure if many other types of files do though.
I don't see a preference in Preview, Camino, OSX or Safari that would control that. I do a pref in Safari that says "Open safe files after downloading" and pdfs are considered safe but that doesn't quite fit the bill here.

I looked at this thread I'd started awhile back and followed Dr Smoke's advice about resetting the Launch Services Database. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=480940&tstart=0)
I was then left with some icons that say they are for Safari but are either Camino docs or Preview docs. (Dr Smoke's advice fixed that last time (but left unsticky prefs for opening apps.))
I finally remembered that I had to go into Safari and tell it that my default browser was Camino (1.5) and after doing that, ALL of my icons are correct. The docs Camino owned have the correct Camino icon AND the Preview stuff has the Preview icon. (What is the connection to Preview, I wonder...)
pdfs continue to open under Camino though. I should say, they actually open for a fraction of a second on top of Camino but quickly go underneath it. Always have.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I can live with this but think it shouldn't happen.

How to open file using hyperlinks?
I have a file in D drive (d:\test1.sql) and i want to open file in ssrs report using hyperlinks.
Note: File Paths are stored in database table.

Per my understanding that you have some file in the D drive and you want to open this files when you click the hyperlinks in the SSRS report, right?
Did you mean that the file paths (hyperlink) is stored in the DB and will display as an field in the report, when you click on the hyperlink, it will link to the report in the D Driver?
As Harsh mentioned that you need to upload your file to the report manager which is a UNC path like "http://<serverName>/Reports", you cannot put it on
a D:\ drive, it has to be a share since you want other people to get to it.
So, In your scenario, I suggest you to upload the file to the report manager and update these file path to the new one then add the "Go to URL" action on the field which you want to have the hyperlink that link to the path of the
file. In "Select URL" of the "Go to URL" action, click the drop-down arrow and click the name of a field that contains a URL.

Yes there is, with the hyperlink selected click the blue "hyperlinks" aat the top then select "open the link in a new window or tab"

Can not open file in web browser

in 8.49 tools FSCM90 on Win
I run a AE_MINITEST and it succeed but when click on log file I have the message Internet Explorer can not display this page.
That logfile exists physically (size 1kb) on reports node. I can open it with notepad.
What might be the problem ?

If the file has been moved to the report repository (ReportRepositoryPath variable defined in configuration.properties of webserver), check if you have rights enough on OS level (maybe different users are in used ?). Check also the stderr/stdout on process scheduler side as well as DSTAGNT files.
Ultimately, shutdown the prcs, purge the cache and restart. Do the same on webserver if possible.

Open file in new browser window

Hello,
The contents of file is stored as a blob object in database. The filename(.pdf, .csv, .txt) is displayed as a commandlink in a page. On click of the commandlink I would like to display the contents of the file in a new browser window. How do i do it.

Thanks for the reply. I tried opening a pdf file from the local drive and it works fine.
My requirement is the outputlink displays a list of files in a datatable. On click of the link I need to read the file from the database. The file resides in the database as a blob.
Now issue is on click of the outputlink i am not able to get the name of the file. Is there any way to get the name of the file.

Opening file in internet explorer

i have a html file which is in the same directory as the class file
from which i have to call the file. i am using
Runtime r=Runtime.getRuntime();

but i want that the file to be executed without giving the absolute path
i.e the class file and html file may reside in any drive and get executed.how to do that without giving absolute paths?

In order to not affect other things, just open AR9 before you start IE8. You will likely get comments about AR and AA not being compatible and that is an issue you have to be careful with. Also, note that if you delete either, you will have to repair the other. They will work together, but issues like you are having will continue to be an issue.

To add to varkgirls' reply, you can replace the nav bar links with a text link with the following format:
Page
Since all of the page html files for a give site are in the same folder the path is very simple. Just put in a text box place holder for each page directly under the navigation bar. Then turn off the nav bar in the Inspector pane and the text links will slide up to the top of the page.
After publishing, each of the page html files and replace the text place holder with the code above. Each page will open in a new window.

ERROR MESSAGE Can't open file in DW8

After downloading Dreamweaver 8 trial version.
Download was sucessful. Installation was successful. I opened the
program to proceed to build a webpage. I was able to open a HTML
file. and I was UNABLE to open any image file... I attempt to open
jpg file... I get error message saying Dreamweaver can't open jpg
file Please open HTML, XML or other compatible files. When I
attempted to open a gif file ... another error message same but for
gif in place of jpg. I checked the other programs and other
programs did not have the same problem. I was able to open file
from Internet Explorer or WS FTP. but NOT in Dreamweaver. IT is the
only program that I am not able to open ANY of the image files. I
am not able to continue to evaluate this version before deciding
whether it is what I would like to order. I have heard many good
things about it so I wanted to give it a try but no... I did not
get a good start. I need advise what to do about it. Thank you. A
quick reply will be greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to open a .jpg file directly in Dreamweaver?
Or are you
trying to insert an image into your page?
Dreamweaver is not an image editor so the former would not
work.

i am building a application for which when a user logs in he will we redirected to page where he will have one link ,with this link a file is associated.
when user press that link he should be able to see that particular file in internet browser....
