Hyperlinks that I create in InDesign CS3 don't work in the PDF

I've created several hyperlinks in an InDesign CS3 file, using the Hyperlinks panel. But when I export to PDF format, the hyperlinks don't work. Even the ones that start with http:// or www. don't work. Is that just the way it is? Or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Ellen

Is there a button? I don't see anything saying "Hyperlinks" in the Export dialog box. I've attached an image of what I'm seeing.
Thanks

  • Adding video to a .swf file created in InDesign so it will work as a PDF.

I am having trouble inserting a video into my indesign file. I change the format to a .FLV and then export it as a .swf. When I bring it into Acrobat to create a PDF the video does not play. Any suggestions on how to add video to a .swf file that works in a pdf?

That's a circular argument, since video in a PDF file is rendered in the Flash Player runtime.

Things will work better if you change the format of the video to MP4. Then just place the video directly in the InDesign file and make the interactive PDF. Mixing SWF and PDF are bound to be a disappointing experience.
Flash is a format which is on the downhill slope. It's not supported on mobile device (you know, tablets and smartphones), and many people don't like installing Flash for security reasons.

  • Acrobat pdfs created with Indesign CS3 cannot be searched

Our company uses Coldfusion (don't know anything about Coldfusion personally) to search pdfs of our magazine articles that we keep in an online library. Users can do keyword searches to find articles. Our system was created in about 1998.
It worked fine when we were using Quark 6, but pdfs made with Quark 7 documents were not searchable. Since pdfs made from Indesign CS2 documents worked, we switched to Indesign CS2 to solve the problem. Now that we have upgraded to CS3, however, they are no longer searchable. We are designers and don't know much about coldfusion. We just want to create pdfs that can be searched by our system and do not understand what changed from Quark6-Quark7 and from CS2 to CS3.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

These pdfs are all searchable in Acrobat (either version). They just don't work with our web server. I have tried saving them in Acrobat 5.
I have tried several configurations now. Indy CS2 files that are postscripted and distiled in either Acrobat Distiller 8 or Acrobat Distiller 7 work fine.
However, when I pdf directly from CS2, the files don't work. The document information for these files says they were created using "Adobe PDF Library 7.0"
No matter what I do (distill or pdf directly to either 7 or 8 versions of distiller)
Our Coldfusion was installed around 1997 or 98 and is in a different department of our company. We don't really have tech support for it that I know of. I have posted this question on the Coldfusion forum, but got no response.
Anyway, there seems to be something changed from Indesign CS2 to CS3 that makes these files incompatible. The distiller 7 or 8 files work fine that I created with CS2. I also don't understand the difference between created with "Adobe PDF Library 7.0" and creating with Distiller 7.

  • Upgraded to CS5; TOC Links don't work in the created PDF from InDesign

We recently upgraded to CS5. When we convert our InDesign User Guide to PDF, the main TOC links don't work. The TOC does function from each chapter page but not from the main TOC. We have done our normal steps in Acrobat to link them. Same issue with various user guides that we have. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Thanks for your reply. The problem is the whole page is one image and there should be several clickable areas which point to different links.
To solve this we have put a textbox over the clickable area, disabled the background and stroke and then right clicked on the textbox and used the hyperlink option to turn the whole box in to a hyperlink.
We tried several free PDF convertors which couldn’t handle this combination. Then we trailed it with the full desktop version of Adobe Acrobat Pro and it worked a treat. Unfortunately the client didn’t have that software so we signed them up to the online PDF convertor from Adobe and that isn’t handling it.
Here's the sample document: Dropbox - sample-link.docx we have been doing the tests with.

  • Is there a way to save a table in Photoshop (that was created in InDesign) without fuzzy text?

I am trying to save a table in Photoshop that was created in InDesign for web use. When I save it as a png (can't save as pdf or jpeg due to limitations with our company's website), the text appears fuzzy (pixelated?). Is this because the table is getting flattened/rasterized?
Is there a different adobe product that can be used to avoid this happening? The company who has built our website has a style editor that has limited capabilities. We have tried using the website's editor to create the tables; however, the editor lacks the flexibilty and user-friendliness that comes with InDesign. That is why we opted to create the tables in Indesign.
In order to upload the table into the editor, the file must be saved as a png, so that is why we are creating in InDesign and then saving the table in Photoshop.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for the help!
    Tracy

    Thanks for your help!
Just to clarify, are you suggesting going through the export process while in Indesign? I did that and saved the table as an EPS file, then proceeded to open it, trim, and save as png in Photoshop. I noticed it lost it's white background when I reopened it in Photoshop; the table appeared with a transparent background (which isn't a big deal). When I uploaded the png in the website it doesn't appear to be as blurry, so that did help.
    Thank you for the suggestion!

  • URL Hyperlink that wraps from line to line won't work in PDF

What's going on with the hyperlink feature that I can't make my links work in the PDF (or in InDesign). I searched for this topic on here and found a couple things that I tried, but with no success.
I am using a PC, InDesign CS2 and Acrobat 8.
A couple of my hyperlinks have lengthy addresses that wrap to the next line. Even when I change the Name to a shortened name and try to link them they won't work. All the addresses are correct and work on their own.
Do you have to use http:\\ or the www.? That would resolve one of my links, but the others all have the www included in the title, but still don't work.
    Thanks!

It sounds as if you are not actually making your hyperlinks in InDesign, but relying on Acrobat to interpret them. This
is a shortcoming in Acrobat that it will interpret a www.~~~ type format as a hyperlink, but stops at the end of the line.
Your best option to guarantee hyperlinks working in the PDF is to form them properly in InDesign using the Hyperlinks panel.

  • Indesign cs6 don't work !!!!

indesign cs6 don't work !!!! it crash on starting up service registry
    Help me

Did it ever work? Is your default printer network or local, and is it turned on?
If you create a new user, does it work when you log in using the new account?
Unfortunately windows doesn't provide useful crash logging for ID, so we need to guess. My memory is that this used to be caused by SING ( see SING Removal) but SING was removed from CS6, supposedly though maybe the plugins are stil there for use with legacy files. It can also be casued by bad prefs ( see Replace Your Preferences) or a bad font (Troubleshoot font problems | Windows) in addition to the account and printer problems mentioned above.
You'll find a lot of threads about this if you google  site:forums.adobe.com "starting up service registry" InDesign

  • Dear Apple's people, please note that "Lightning to 30 pin Adapter" don't work with iPhone5 and iPhone5s "Base Dock"  !!!!

Dear Apple's people, please note that "Lightning to 30 pin Adapter" don't work with iPhone5 and iPhone5s "Base Dock"  !!!!

  • Editting PDF documents that were created by a MAC doesn't work because of font incompatability.  How can we get MAC fonts and load in our Adobe Acrobat Pro 9?

If it's a Mac font and you're on Windows, you can't. If you are also on a Mac, you'll need to purchase the fonts (fonts are generally non-transferable, like software. One of the reasons pdf exists), install them and try your edits.
But it's best to edit the original document and create a new pdf when finished.

I have a client that uses Windows that has recently told me she can no longer open the PDFs I send her. I can't find this elusive "Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments" setting that I have read may solve my problem. Can someone get me there?

    Dear Dan,
It was from InDesign that I was creating the shared pdfs. I was one of two Mac drivers in a corporate sea of Win users and had to make the change I mentioned in order for the Win users to see my pdfs for review. The difference from what you appear to be doing was that were all on an MS Exchange Server so the files were shared over the company's Exchange Server e-mail system. However, some of these files occasionally went to outside users via regular e-mail and those people had no issues either.
So what I did was tested and worked for years.
You might look at the Adobe forums or Knowledge Base to see if that is a reported issue with newer version of CS. I was on CS2 when I was doing this, and the other Mac driver was on CS3 but had no problems either.
Some Win users I've talked to find a problem opening some pdfs (not mine) in general and found they had to open Reader first and them open the file from Reader's File menu. That most often happened if the client was using an outdated version of Reader.

Yes, I know that, but I ever work with the right mouse button,

  • Characters are cut off when they don't fit in the pdf report output.

    Hi All,
I understand that Forms 6i and Oracle 9 iAS have been de-supported for years. Meanwhile we do still run a small application in the 9 iAS environment.
We have forms and reports running on Windows 2000 server, I am able to successfully clone the same 9 iAS from Windows 2000 to a Virtual Server Windows 2003 x32 and all runs fine, the only problem is that the fonts in the pdf reports are larger in the new Windows 2003 environment as compared to the original Windows 2000 and characters are cut off when they don't fit in the pdf report output in 2003 env.
    Any advice is most appreciated.
    Thanks.

You may want to check on the printer driver and paper size selected
