Hyperlinks to files iWeb 09

I am trying to set up hyperlinks to pdf files on my computer using iWeb09.
When I select the text for the hyperlink and go to the inspector and link to the file "application.pdf" the text on the web page changes to the file name. Is that what is supposed to happen? It's not what I want to happen.
How do I link to 'application.pdf' without changing the text? I'm probably missing something simple here but I've looked at some of the tutorials etc. on the web and can't find what I'm looking for. I did not use iWeb 08 so don't know if this operation worked properly or not.

In line with iWeb's policy of introducing simple drag and drop icons for widgets, most of the links on my latest site to PDFs and applications etc make use of icons.
This avoids the issue of me having to think about the text link and my viewers straining their brains by having to read them!
I wonder what all the empty spaces are for in the widgets section of the media slide out.
Do you think that one day we may get something useful like a contact form?
It didn't take me long to get over the thrill of being able to take photos of my myself grinning foolishly and have them appear instantly on my webpage courtesy of the iSight Photo widget.

I want to open a domain.site2 file outside the default folder (User/Library/Application Support/iWeb) with iWeb11, but iWeb only opens the domain file in the default folder. If I delete the default domain file, iWeb wants to create a new site. Does anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it?

In Lion the Finder folder is now invisible.  To make it permanetely visible enter the following in the Terminal applicaiton window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an applicaiton.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate

  • How do I get iWeb to open another iWeb backup file? (I accidentally saved the file iWeb is pointing to, and don't want it.  I want to use a prior back-up iWeb version.)

How do I get iWeb to open another iWeb backup file? (Made a mistake and don't want current file iWeb is pointing to)

    Thanks Roddy.
FYI- I downloaded the "Domain.sites2" file from your page (because I deleted mine yeterday)  So now the file is sitting on my desktop in my "Download" window.
I see the good back-up file I want to use on my desktop, but when I go to drag the file from my desktop and drop it in "Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb", it does not take.  I am not allowed to drop files on that iWeb page directly.  (I tried to drop the the "Domain.sites2" file from the Download window, but that also does not allow me to drag and drop it directly to the iWeb folder.)

  • Hyperlink to files work ok on my mac but on windows vista open but you cant

Hyperlink to files work ok on my mac but not on windows vista, they open but you can't read them properly. These are both files that have been saved as Word docs. I tried firstly to save as 'pages' but that didn't work so I tried the word docs. Sorry if this has been covered somewhere else, I couldn't find it!
    Thanks for help!

  • When hyperlinking a file, is there a maximum file size?

On my website, I had no problem hyperlinking a 2.7 MB, low res pdf.
But when I tried to hyperlink a 33.6 MB, high res pdf, iWeb wouldn't/couldn't do it.
After hitting publish, it seemed like it was trying to do it, but after a long while a dialog box popped up saying that it "encountered problems".
Is my high res file too big? I use Clearwire for internet access- could my 256k uplink speed be too slow?

    Thinkingman,
iWeb probably timed out while trying to upload the large file. Probably a good thing; you really don't want to host huge files like this for download from a .Mac server--your visitors will chew through bandwidth pretty fast.
Here's my suggestion. Stop trying to host huge files on .Mac. .Mac servers are too slow anyway to properly serve a file of this size. Buy space on 1&1 WebHosting and upload your large files to this space using Transmit. They will upload quickly; they will download quickly; and you can link to them as you would any file. Simple workflow and easy on the bandwidth. Once you establish an upload routine with the remote server you will never go back--trust me!
This will solve your problems, I believe.

  • Keynote hyperlink failure in iweb

I have created a flash file in keynote, then exported it to iweb .... all works fine; except for any hyperlinks that were created with the file. These seem to disappear when it gets exported into iweb. The only solution that I've found is to create an invisible box shape over the subject once it's been exported, and then enable that as a hyperlink. However this doesn't cause the arrow to change to a hand, which is what I want.
    Any help out there?
    Macbook using keynote08 and iweb08.

Duncan, the reason for the Hyperlink not appearing as such is beyond me, but the solution would be easy.
Just make a "click me to continue" notice somewhere on the page.
Many Flash intro's have these so why not yours?

  • When hyperlink to file link changes

Newbie. When using a word on my web page and setting it up as a link in inspector the link changes to the name of the file. Simple I am sure not I can't find the answer. Any help? Thanks.

What file? What are you linking to, an file, external page or iWeb page? If it's a file then, yes, it changes to the file name to let you know it's linked to that file. You have to go back and reedit the text to what you want after making it a hyperlink. It will still link to that file.

  • Hyperlinks work in iWeb app, but not up on web???

I created navigation titles (just text boxes), and set them up as hyperlinks in iWeb. They are all working fine in iWeb.
When I upload to the website they are all dead as doornails.
Mmm. What could I possibly be doing wrong here? First time I've come across this.
    All ears,
    Ben

Nothing is covering links, good suggestion ... all links clean and up forward.
I've turned off the template menu links and created my own by making text boxes, writing in text, and then making active as hyperlinks.
I've done this on two other sites that run just fine.
I notice that I don't even have to upload to get problem. The problem occurs when I publish to a folder. Suddenly ALL hyperlinks are disactivated in the publishing process.
I've trashed the prefs and started again. No luck. I made a page out of iPhoto and imported it into the file. No luck (someone in another Forum proposed this).
    All ears...

  • Pages 5.0, hyperlinks, PDF file, links don't work

I upgraded to pages 5.0. My documents have many hyperlinks. When I convert them to PDF files the hyperlinks don't work in the pdf files. In pages: file > export > pdf > best image quality then to desktop. The links work on page 1 of the pdf file but not on the remainder of the pages. With the previous version of pages all the hyperlinks worked in the pdf files I created. Something I need to be doing with the new pages 5.0? Help. The links are a key component of my documents.
    Thanks in advance.

    Found a fix!
    1. In the new version of Pages, export your document to a Word doc. Save.
    2. Right-click on that Word doc in the Finder, Choose Open With > Pages (4.1) [Or just open Pages 4.1 yourself, then use File > Open and choose that new Word doc]
    3. The old version of Pages opens your doc. Choose File > Export... Choose PDF. File will save where you choose, links active and working just like old times.
This is my first discussions post and hope it's useful!
Why would you want to export to Word .doc?
Just use Pages '09 4.3 in the first place and avoid the problem.

  • How to add hyperlink to file path of pdf when creating email using the email submit button?

I have a form with an e-mail submit button that opens an outlook email with the .pdf file as an attachmnet, and addressed to the e-mail addresses i put in tthe address field.
What we are trying to abvoid is sending a bunch of attchement to numerous people, clogging up email space/server space.
What we would like is not to have the .pdf attched, but rather in the body of the email have a hyperlink to the path of the document. Can this be done, and if so can anyone give me some guidance.
    Thanks in advance
    Ron

Then you can use something like this:
    app.mailMsg({ bUI: true, cTo: "[email protected]", cSubject: "You can find the file at: " + this.path });
The path that will be inserted is a so-called "device-independent path", though, so they may not be able to use it directly.
It's possible to convert it to a "normal" file path, but that is a more complex scripting task.

  • Firefox does not recognize hyperlinks denoting files and pages in regarding the html written to direct to the file in the same web directory. Ie: a href=myarticle.pdf

The hyperlinks are recognized by other browsers, except Firefox. A simple fix would be for any webmaster to make sure the full hyperlink is written, but that would be inclusion just for Firefox users. Simply put, Firefox should still be able to work like a DOS batch file linking files on the same directory viewed in this manner, but fails to.

That is an MS Office document and everything on that page is a image as you can see in Tools > Page Info > Media and Firefox/Tools > Web Developer > Page Source
If you used MS software then make sure that you disable VML if you save that page because only IE can display pages with VML
You can look at KompoZer for an HTML editor that generates W3C compliant code.

  • Hyperlinks opening files in internet browser

    Hi,
I'm going to get straight to the problem I seem to be enountering....
    I am running Adobe X 10.1.3.
What we have on our system, is a load of documents, which get created in MS Word 2010.  In these documents are hyperlinks, to individual .pdf files which are stored on an always acessible network drive.
I am aiming to print all my documents to .pdf versions (so that people can't accidentally edit them) and this will/should allow easy hyperlink navigation between linked files.
However... If I open the index file in Adobe Reader, and click a hyperlink, it is automatically opened in Internet Explorer?? which really thwarts my whole plan.  The same index file opened in MS Word 2010, will (hyper)link to the file itself, opening it in Adobe Reader X.
I have already googles this, and have checked my hyperlink 'type' by hovering in Adobe Reader X, it says "file://xxx/xxx/xx.pdf" so Word is not creating url-type hyperlinks...
I don't understand why then these links are opening in IE...?
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Will

ok, would you mind telling me what that is? I dont have acrobat (seems silly that you would need it for hyperlinks seeing as they are already registered in the word pdf exporter
I am going to optimistically try to put them into word and see what happens, not expecting great things though.
I am still a little confused about this, they hyperlinks are to files, I know they are... If I open them from the word .doc they will open the pdf in adobe reader.  Also, if I link to a folder (in the explorer/finder window) this link will open that folder in explorer using both the .doc and the .pdf to travel there.  This implies to me that it is hyperlinks to other pdfs which are getting corrupted for me, coming from pdfs.
Just disproved myself as I wrote that, hyperlink to picture was opening too in IE when I accessed it from the pdf...
So: MS Word is making nice hyperlinks, the the files, which open the file in it's native program (ie Pictures in win pic*fax viewer, pdfs in adobe reader etc)  However, when I export word doc to pdf, these hyperlinks are being changed to url-style hyperlinks...
Any ideas? (and again, thanks for your input Test Screen Name, I have never forked out for Acrobat so don't knw the in's-and-out's of the program...

  • Hyperlinks to files in Interactive PDF's

    Good morning
I am a new user to indesign CS4 running on a MAC.  I am trying to make an interactive pdf document that will link to other files, for example other pdf documents, power point presentations and excel files.  I am hoping to burn this information to a CD for distribution or be able to zip the package and email the files.  So far I have been able to link to another pdf document but the file location is listed as my computer.
    "/Users/rbell/Documents/Nursing Portfolio Iris Bell/IB_1page_resume_2010.pdf"
I would like this to only read the /IB_1page_resume_2010.pdf part as I don't want to be referring people back to my computer.  The other issue that I had when trialing this was that the document opened in safari not acrobat.
Any ideas on how to fix these issues.
    Thanks Iris.

ID hyperlinks must be absolute paths.
If the final PDF is being sent around, say to the outside world, the source documents need to be hosted to an accessible server.
If the source documents are saved to your hard drive, and you create a PDF with hyperlinks, then the final PDF is looking for your hard drive to launch those files.
As for Safari opening on launch rather than Acrobat, that would be a browser setting.
If you are creating links to internal server documents, again, the PDF would need to be able to refer back to the server for those documents.

  • Hyperlink to file in JSP not working

I have a JSP page where I am providing a hyperlink to a file on the C: drive as follows
    Try this
Nothing happens when I click this hyperlink.
When I scroll over the hyperlink I see the correct path "file:///C:/ReqImport/data.txt" in the status bar and when paste this path in my address bar, it does open up the file.
Any ideas why this file hyperlink does not work on this JSP page.
    Thanks

Hmm, you're right, I just tried it and it doesn't appear to work. It looks like a security thing: If the original page is on my hard drive, links to other files on my hard drive work. But when the original page is on a web server, links to files on my hard drive don't appear to work.
Do you realize that such a link is referring to a file on the C: drive of the client, the user, not the C: drive of the server? I'm not sure what you're up to, but for most applications such a link is pretty much useless, as you normally have no way of knowing what files the user has on his C: drive.

  • Insert the hyperlink URL file name underneath all images?

Hi, I was wondering if I have an image with hyperlink
attached, if I can use some sort of formatting code or something to
not only show the picture, but also the name of the URL file
associated with the picture. For example, my site is
    www.drcelly.com and I have a folder I named “lgtest”
and within that folder I have all my images in, and also the HTML
pages that are linked to the images. The page (screen shot below)
showing all the pictures is titled “lg” so the
directory to the following page is:
    http://www.drcelly.com/lgtest/lg.html
    screen shot-
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/mds33200/11.jpg
As you can see, the selected picture (circled in red) is
named “tp 1010.gif” and it has a hyperlink attached,
named “c297.html”. (so if someone was to click that
image, it would direct you to
    http://www.drcelly.com/lgtest/c297.html)
Now the thing I need to do is to get the image to shop up
just as it is now, however underneath the image I need a text
    description titled “c297.html” or even
“c297”. I have several pages with several hundred
images on it, and I would prefer to have the computer fill these in
rather then manually entering each one separate. Does anyone know
    if its possible?
Here is a sample of how I would like it to look (I manually
typed the red data in by using a photo editor just to show how I
would like it to look, my goal is to make it so I dont have to type
    the red data in):
    screen shot-

Any help / info would be appreciated! thanks.

You would need custom javascript or server scripting to do
    this. HTML has
    no such facility.
