Hyperlinks with Numbers

Having purchased a Macbook Pro on the advice of my son, I can only express my bitter disappointment with my experience to date. Help screens are helpless and only work online. It may come as a surprise that there are many occasions when you cannot get online and so help is not available.
Virtually every programme I have used to date is at best awkward and not easy to use. Wether this is because it is more intuitive than I is possibly the cause, but i doubt this. The programmes are just not very well written.
Take for example Numbers. I have spent over an hour trying to find out how to create a hyperlink from a cell to another spreadsheet - I frequently use this technique as it saves a huge amount of time looking up information. I have tried and failed. It would seem from the various chat rooms and forums that this simple script has not been added. Likewise the Formulas are so limited as to be almost worthless. Do Apple seriously expect users to write all their own scripts so that they can use Formulae?
I am on the point of going back to Microsoft, which despite all the problems, you can invariably find a workaround, but this does not seem to be the case with Apple.
Nice build quality, but a seriously disappointed new user.
Regards.
Nigel

  • Callto:// hyperlink in Numbers (and Excel)

    I have a spreadsheet table that includes phone numbers.
    I would like to create an extra column with hyperlinks that when clicking on them will automatically use my prefered VOIP application.
    Issue 1:
    When I use the callto:// hyperlink in Numbers '09 (2009 when was that again) it doesnt do anything. After that I can't create any hyperlink at all anymore (even after closing and restarting numbers) what is the prober way to get to do this?
    1a. In Excel 2011 it automatically adds file:// in front of the callto:// which of course does not work
    Any suggestions on how to add other then http://, file:// or mailto:// hyperlinks in excel 2011
    Issue 2:
    when typing callto:// directly in the browser, to goes to Skype. How to change the default program used for the callto:// statement?
    Thanks in advance for you help.

    Hyperlinks are limited to http and mailto. Excel has the additional ability to link to files. You will not be able to create callto hyperlinks.
    Your question about how to select your default callto app might not get answered here in the Numbers forum. You might want to ask that in a different forum that has a wider audience. Or maybe an Internet search on callto to see what parameters can be specified.

    Hello
    The following formula:
    =HYPERLINK("mailto:email@hidden?subject=LIST : TITLE&body=Hello, I'd like to borrow 'TITLE'.","per Mail bestellen")
    will open email such that
    recipient = email@hidden
    subject   = LIST : TITLE
    body      = Hello, I'd like to borrow 'TITLE'.
    anchor    = per Mail bestellen
    You can use cell references for the variables such as:
    M10    =HYPERLINK("mailto:email@hidden?subject="&$A$1&" : "&D10&"&body=Hello, I'd like to borrow '"&D10&"'.","per Mail bestellen")
    list      = $A$1
    title     = D10
    If you want to use quote (") in lieu of apostrophe (') around title, use CHAR(34) such as:
    M10    =HYPERLINK("mailto:email@hidden?subject="&$A$1&" : "&D10&"&body=Hello, I'd like to borrow "&CHAR(34)&D10&CHAR(34)&".","per Mail bestellen")
    Tested with Numbers v2.0.5 under 10.6.8.

  • IPod 4,1 will not update to iOS 7. I updated my iMac to 10.9.1 (maverick). Latest Numbers version on iMac is not compatible with Numbers on iPod. Ideas? Can I go back a version with Numbers?

    iPod 4,1 will not update to iOS 7. I updated my iMac to 10.9.1 (maverick). Latest Numbers version on iMac is not compatible with Numbers on iPod. Ideas? Can I go back a version with Numbers? I downloaded old version of Numbers 2.0.1 from DVD but with both versions the 2.0.1 will not open.  So both versions are present but only the new version functions. I tried to drag the new version to the trash but the old version still runs error message and will not open. I did not try to restart with the new version in the trash.

    Maybe. See:

  • Automatically open excel spreadsheets with numbers

    can anyone tell me is it possible to set numbers as the default application to ALWAYS open excel spreadsheets? each time i try to open an excel spreadsheet the computer starts up the trial office software. I then have to cancel and choose "open with" and then set "always open with" numbers.
    Having just converted from Windows, I was able to set certain programs to always handle specific file formats, e.g. .jpg, mpeg, avi so I did not have to choose the program every single time i wanted to open a file.
    thx., same goes for pages ,in lieu of word?

    Select an Excel file and option-select (Right Mouse Button) and select Get "Info". See attachment below to set "Open With."

  • How can I set up a database program for inputing baseball team statistics that is compatible with numbers?

    I have been asked to be a statistician bar and athletic team. We are playing Dartball, a game of darts that is based on baseball.  The previous status station used Apple works which included a database manager that was compatible with numbers. I have checked with the Apple geniuses online for my MacBook Pro and they did not have an answer to my problem. Is there a program that can be used on my MacBook Pro that will keep up with statistics for eight baseball team?

    Im all for the dumb questions, because its probably a dumb mistake I did.
    I have checked that both sus ped and exp. ped are fully plugged in.
    Neither pedals show up in the Midi meter in the transport.
    I dont know how to set a patch for the keyboard, but if both pedals work in other programs (i.e. Reason), wouldn't it not be an issue with a Logic configuration and not in the keyboard's setting? (Unless I have a separate Logic setting that loads automatically when it detects Logic is booted. I dont know how that would work though.)
    Thank you for your prompt help, though. Any other ideas?

  • Hyperlink in Numbers on iPad??

    How do I create a hyperlink in Numbers on the iPad?

    Ivan,  Yes that helped.
    What I did not know is that links may NOT appear in tables.
                  "Only text within a text box or shape can be made into a hyperlink, not text within a table cell."
    I created a link inside a text box, and then positioned the text box over a cell.
    But when I deleted the row above that cell, the text box did not shift up to maintain a position over the cell.
    So it seems text boxes cannot be "anchored" onto a table.
    I guess there is no workaround for this is there?

    How to Insert a hyperlink in numbers for iPad

    Here you are in a forum dedicated to Numbers for OSX.
    Your question is about Numbers for iOS which is a different application.
    Would be more efficient to ask in the forum dedicated to iWork for iOS.

  • Hyperlink with an action 'Go to a page in another document' in IE browser.

    When the PDF Document is opened in IE, Clicking on a Hyperlink with an action 'Go to a page in another document' is not navigating to the proper destination page.
    This happens when the destination document is already opened in IE once and cached.

    Hi Vinayaka,
    I am unable to replicate this at my end. I am using Acrobat 11.0.10 on Windows 7 and IE11
    Below are the steps I followed :
    Create a link and select the "Custom link" option, click "Next",  select the "Options" tab, select "Go to page view", click the "Add: button, open the file to the page you want to link to, click the "Set link" button.

  • Hyperlinks with "#" don't work in PDF from PowerPoint

    I'm creating a PDF from a PowerPoint 2010 file and hyperlinks with a "#" in them aren't working. The "#" character is being removed from the link. For example a link to http://mysite.com/home.htm#anchor becomes http://mysite.com/home/htmanchor. I have Creative Cloud and installed Acrobat Pro XI today. I used the Create PDF button on the Acrobat ribbon.
    Does anyone have a solution?

    Ahhh, the slippery slope of perception.
    Yes, "#" has a specific use when with HTML .
    And "#" has a specific use when with MS Office applications.
    And "#" has a specific use with PDF using Acrobat / Adobe Reader.
    The specifics of each?
    For HTML see what W3C and the related RFCs speak to.
    For MS Office see what Microsoft's dev space  & Office info speaks to.
    For Acrobat / Reader see "Parameters for Opening PDF Files".
    http://wwwimages.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters_v9 .pdf
    In each environment "#" means something different, does something different.
    In each environment, when used correctly, "#" performs as designed.
    The point is the "design" is In Fact different in the different environments.
    So the "SOF" -- Nothing is broken.
    Be well...

  • With my new macbook I attempted to open an older spreadsheet and get the following error message:  "This spreadsheet cannot be opened because ti is too old.  To open it, save it with numbers '09 first"  So how does one do this when I only have ver3.1?

    With my new macbook I attempted to open an older spreadsheet and get the following error message:  "This spreadsheet cannot be opened because ti is too old.  To open it, save it with numbers '09 first"  So how does one do this when I only have ver3.1?

    Numbers 3.x can only open Numbers '09 and later.  You will need Numbers '09 to open Numbers '08 files.
    If it is a single file (or only a few) you can email me and I will open and convert then email back.  My email address is in the "Biography" of my profile.
    You may have Numbers '09 installed.  Look in the folder "/Applications/iWork '09"  if Numbers is in that folder launch it, open the file you tried to open, and save.  Then you should be able to open in Numbers 3.x

    HS,
    If you recently purchased a new computer, call AppleCare and describe your problem. Others who have done this have received an iWork '09 disk in the mail with which to do the conversion.

  • Hyperlink with tracking applied does not work in PDF

    We use lots of web addresses in our advertising and generally the web addresses automatically convert to hyperlinks when we distill the files and make PDFs. Recently we've had two instances where someone applied tracking or justification to the line of text containing the url to make it spread across the page. When we make our PDF the url is not clickable. Is there anyway around this? We tried actually creating a hyperlink manually in InDesign by using the Hyperlinks panel and entering the address, but that didn't work either.

    Peter,
    We'll look into that. We already do two separate PDFs for print and web, but
    we are distilling both right now. Wouldn't be too much of a problem to
    change to exporting the web version I don't think.
    I did a test, just curious, is there a way to keep it from putting a black
    box around the link on the PDF?
    Thanks for your help! We appreciate it!

    Subject: Hyperlink with tracking applied does not work in PDF
    Distilled PDF uses Postscript which does not support hyperlinks and
    interactivity. To make your hyperlinks in ID you'll need to export and check
    the Include Hyperlinks and Include Interactiviity boxes.
    Your printer doesn't need hyperlinks because they don't work on a printed
    page. The requirements for print and interactive PDF are quite different, and
    you may find you need to make two versions.
