Hyphenation not working

Hi guys,
I have hyphernation ON, but is not working. I see an strange sign from the original text, maybe is a non breaking word character imported from the original text in Word Office.
Here is the picture
http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1JKMDJnFsZmC56Jl93feGKN6qIJEhW1
By the way, here is a close up of this new symbol (i haven't seen it before)
http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1mnOd3tpi7T2zZndqXXJzOLzzfNJG
Is there any GREP command that will remove all forced non breaking text signs at once?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers,

Hi Peter, thanks for the fast reply.
I think the problem is a different one that i imagine. It seems when i put a rectange of quotation marks with Wrap Text action for some reason it with recognize or break the text properly.
Here is the sample.
http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=11WPxSO7kp5IB7jiWK3Q35ybkOGVV1
If i remove the wrap text hyphernation is working again
http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=17iDSVCcngJIcWDtngt5tociP50S
How can i have this quotation rectangle with white space around and hyphernation workign right at the same time?
Best,

  • Hyphenation not working for Russian language

    Hello All,
    We really shocked to see that hyphenation not working for Russian language, anyone faced this issue? Please let us know how to rectify this issue since we need to complete one of the project with Russian language.
    Thanks in advance.
    Praveen

    @Kasyan: Thanks for the response, I'm using 5.5 and facing this issue while select the language 'Russian' no where found the hyphens and in most of the places looks loose line due to missing of hyphens.
    Could please confirm again?
    Thanks,

  • Discretionary hyphen not working

    Any ideas, anyone?
    CS3. I tried to put a discretionary hyphen in the word "viðskiptamanna-stólum".
    It's there (you can see it) but it isn't working.
    What's the trick or is this a bug in CS3? Is there a keyboard shortcut?

    Thanks Mike.
    I think it must be the Hyphen Limit that does it.
    At least when I enter a figure there (it was set at zero) an ordinary hyphen breaks the word.
    But is there a special character on the keyboard or in Glyphs for a discretionary hyphen? There used to be a keystroke in the old days but I can't find it any more.
    I can't find Insert Special Character either, except via Find & Replace.
    Changing languages is no good for Icelandic – the hyphenation is quite different from English and Scandiwegian and we also have special characters that other languages don't.

  • Hyphenation not working! have highlighted the text and have made sure language is set to english. any ideas?

    I also cant force it to hyphenate. when I highlight the next and "check" hyphenation nothing happens. Please help! Thank you!

  • Web address with hyphen will not work in PDF

    CS 4; ID 6.0.6
    OSX 10.5.8
    In ID, I create web links by selecting a url and then selecting New Hyperlink From URL. The new link is a Shared Destination by default with the web address as was selected. These links work fine when exported to PDF.
    When I use the same process on a url with a hyphen (part of the address and not a line break), the resulting Shared link will not work when exported to PDF. The newly created link in this case always begins with file:///Users/.
    What is it about the hypen that messes up the process? I work in a bilingual government so we have a lot of urls with hyphens in them. For example: www.cga-nb.org.
    Thanks.

    so your saying that if it's fake...that specific function is a common flaw ?
    Exactly!
    Unfortunately the full thread recounting this saga got lost in the forum changeover, but the fake copies come in authentic looking shrink-wrapped boxes with printed documentation; and everything works except the nudge.
    Or sometimes other keyboard combinations.

  • Keyboard shortcut not working - nonbreaking hyphen - help

    Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    I can't get the keyboard shortcut for nonbreaking hyphen to work. I can get the nonbreaking hyphen to insert if I insert it via the type menu but menus are such time wasters. I have even tried to make a new and different keyboard shortcut for nonbreaking hyphen and it will still not work. Any ideas of what needs to be corrected/purged/smashed with a hammer to get this to work?
    Thanks in advance for any help
    Running InDesign CS3 5.0.2 on a PowerMac 2x2.66Ghz dual Core Intel Xenon, OS X 10.5.2, 2gigs ram 667 Mhz, and it sits on a crumby looking desk but I don't think the desk is the problem. ;)

    Sigh. I figured out the problem. But thank you M Blackburn. Your response got me thinking about other shortcuts. Sure enough it was Universal Access that was causing the conflict. I must have hit command-option-8 at some point to turn on Zoom in Universal Access which then uses command-option-dash for the zoom out feature. Since I am already zoomed out nothing happened when I tried that key combination. Once I turned off that Zoom feature my keyboard shortcut in InDesign worked again.
    Phew.
    Thank you

  • Hyphenation and spell check not working

    Hi there
    I'm having some issues going from CS4 - CS6, namely some functions that I struggling to get my head around.
    My main issue however, is that I cannot get hyphenation or spell check to work. I have my language set to English: UK, however every word is underlined in red. Placeholder text defaults to Hebrew, I can solve that by holding down the cmd key but I wonder if this is part of the problem?
    Hypenation is also not working at all.
    I have tried my settings on Hunspell, Proximity and User Dictionary, but I can't seem to get it to work.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Language is a character-level attribute and is not related, at least not directly, to the choice of dictionary in the prefs. The dictionary choice simply tells ID which of the installed dictionaries it should use for checking spelling and hyphenation when it encounters that particular language, but does nothing to set a language anywhere.
    Clearly your default language is set to Hebrew. To fix that you need to change the language with nothing selected. If you do this in an existing file, it will affect all new text in that file, but not existing text or other files. If you change the default language with no files open it will be set for all new files, but will not affect anything already existing. To change the language, just pick the correct one from the dropdown in the Character panel or Control panel.
    To fix existing text it's probably easiest to use Find/Change and search for the incorrect language in the find formatting and change to the correct language in the change formatting. You'll find the language dropdowns under Advanced Character Formatting in those dialogs. You can use either a GREP or plain text query, and you can leave the find and change fields themselves blank as long as you've included something in both of the formatting areas.

  • Hyphen search in Adobe XI (11) not working as it used to in Adobe 10

    Yet to see a reply to this or googled a search outside Adobe
    a search for geo‐political in AR11 does not work if you use a keyboard dash - this has happened with several pdf documents - it always worked with AR10
    It WILL work if you copy and paste `geo-political' into a search box
    Pasting geo-political into Wordpad gives `geo ‐ political' and I paste into another program I use I get `geo
    Obviously there is some strange coding that AR11 is using - IS there a solution to searching for terms with dashes (other than pasting in the dash each time from the pdf
    Thanks

    Also, what is your Reader XI version?

  • Filter does not work with *.jsp URL pattern???

    Hi All,
    I am, by no means, very good at JSF or Java. I have looked at various forum posts on here for ways to implement a security filter to intercept requests to pages that first require one to be logged in, and if not, redirect them to the login page. Yes, I know a lot of you have heard this many times before, and I'm sorry to bring it up again.
    BUT, from the guidance of other posts, I have got a filter that works fine when the url pattern is set to "/faces/*" or "/<anything>/*", however it won't work for "*.jsp" or "*.<anything>"
    My filter is as follows:
    package test.security;
    import javax.faces.context.FacesContext;
    import javax.servlet.Filter;
    import javax.servlet.FilterChain;
    import javax.servlet.FilterConfig;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpSession;
    import javax.servlet.ServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.ServletResponse;
    import javax.servlet.ServletException;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
    public class SecurityFilter implements Filter{
        /** Creates a new instance of SecurityFilter */
        private final static String FILTER_APPLIED = "_security_filter_applied";
        public SecurityFilter() {
        public void init(FilterConfig filterConfig) {
        public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response, FilterChain chain) throws java.io.IOException, ServletException{
            HttpServletRequest req = (HttpServletRequest)request;
            HttpServletResponse res = (HttpServletResponse)response;
            HttpSession session = req.getSession();
            String requestedPage = req.getPathTranslated();
            String user=null;
            if(request.getAttribute(FILTER_APPLIED) == null) {
                //check if the page requested is the login page or register page
                if((!requestedPage.endsWith("Page1.jsp")) /* This is the login page */
                    //set the FILTER_APPLIED attribute to true
                    request.setAttribute(FILTER_APPLIED, Boolean.TRUE);
                    //Check that the session bean is not null and get the session bean property username.
                    if(((test.SessionBean1)session.getAttribute("SessionBean1"))!=null) {
                        user = ((test.SessionBean1)session.getAttribute("SessionBean1")).getUsername();
                    if((user==null)||(user.equals(""))) {
                       // try {
                     //       FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().redirect("Page1.jsp");
                      //  } catch (ServletException ex) {
                      //      log("Error Description", ex);
                        res.sendRedirect("../Page1.jsp");
                        return;
            //deliver request to next filter
            chain.doFilter(request, response);
        public void destroy(){
    }My web.xml declaration for the filter is:
    <filter>
      <description>Filter to check whether user is logged in.</description>
      <filter-name>SecurityFilter</filter-name>
      <filter-class>test.security</filter-class>
    </filter>
    <filter-mapping>
      <filter-name>SecurityFilter</filter-name>
      <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    </filter-mapping>
    Note: I have also tried this with <url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern> for the filter mapping in place of the Faces Servlet
    My web.xml declaration for the url pattern is:
    <servlet-mapping>
      <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
      <url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>Which JSC/NetbeansVWP automatically creates a "JSCreator_index.jsp" which has:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <jsp:root  version="1.2" xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page">
      <jsp:forward page="Page1.jsp"/>
    </jsp:root>When run, this causes an Error 500 in the browser and a NullPointerException in SecurityFilter.java on the line:
    if((!requestedPage.endsWith("Page1.jsp")) /* This is the login page */I think I'm missing something that would be obvious to anyone who knows better than me. Any ideas?

    Dear Ginger and Boris,
    thanks for the information - the problem seems to ocur in EP7 as well, Boris told me it is fixed in SP15. We are on SP14 now, so there is hope !
    actually the information in the oss note stated above is also true, as we have an Oracle DB. On a similar demo system (only difference is SQL DB) the hyphen search works !
    best regards, thank you !

  • Wireless not working on boot

    I have an older PC (so it's not moving much...), and I'm trying to set up wireless connection trough a USB wireless adapter (Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501USB Wireless Adapter).
    I have the correct drivers installed, and everything set up (doulbe checked of course).
    The wireless setup during boot-time does not works, and prints the error message
    Could not associate $1 - try increasing WIRELESS_TIMEOUT and check network is WEP or has no security
    If I run iwgetid immeadiateley after login, I get the following output:
    $ iwgetid wlan0 -ra
    00:00:00:00:00:00
    On the other hand, if I try a
    sudo /etc/rc.d/network start
    after I log in, it works flawlessley.
    I've tried the following:
    --> setting WIRELESS_TIMEOUT to 10 seconds, does not works (only after boot)
    --> double checking the setup lines
    --> reading the /etc/rc.d/network script, and executing the commands manually, it works
    $ sudo /etc/rc.d/network stop

    $ sudo iwgetid wlan0 -ra
    [the MAC-ADDRESS of wlan0, differring from 00:00:00:00:00:00]
    --> stopping and starting the /etc/rc.d/network script, it works
    --> editing /etc/rc.d/network to print out the used varialbes and more verbose error messages (I've restored it since then, so I cannot post the results, all seemed to be ok.)

    Activating the usb hooks in the ramdisk did not done the job, as the network demon only runs late in boottime (maybe I'm just being imprecise, i'm meaning the part, where it already entered the final runlevel).
    On the other hand, I did tracked down the problem, and I beliveve it's some kind of desing-flaw in the wireless USB utility. (Or I'm just not aware of a certain feature in it.)
    I modified /etc/rc.d/network to resend the iwconfig to the device after the 2 second sleep, and it seems to work sometimes.

  • System update 4.0 not working from day one

    Can anyone help me with "An error occurred while gathering user information".
    TVSU was not working with factory installed version and it is not working with the newest version, always with the same error. I had a random shutdown & melted speaker problem with my T400s so resolving this issue was not my priority, now it is
    I have Windows 7 and TVSU 4.0.0024
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Check the following registry keys (or similar)
    HKLM\HARDWARE\ACPI\DSDT\LENOVO\
    HKLM\HARDWARE\ACPI\FADT\LENOVO\
    HKLM\HARDWARE\ACPI\RSDT\LENOVO\
    They should be in the form of your model number without the hyphen and not TP-xx___
    An example would be: 8919Y16
    Also check following registy key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\System Update\Preferences\UCSettings\RunTime\MTM
    if it's showing your correct MTM number and under it also the NLSOS and the rest.
    Let me know if these reg keys are fine on your system
    <maybe a short reg export would be fine>
    Cheers

  • [solved] LibreOffice spellchecker does not work, version 3.4.2

    It's kind of a stupid question, but I do not know how I can debug this. The spell checker exits immediately after "Tools/Spelling and Grammar…" though there are incorrect words, "AutoSpellCheck" also underlines nothing. I set language in the status bar to "English", "Russian", "Ukrainian" — none worked. I have "Russian Dictionaries 0.6" and "Ukrainian spelling dictionary and thesaurus 1.6.0" in "Tools/Extension Manager…" (no English dictionary, strange). I have these packages installed:
    $ pacman -Q | grep -E "libreoffice|hunspell|mythes|hyphen"
    hunspell 1.2.15-1
    hunspell-en 7.1-1
    hunspell-ru 0.99g5-4
    hunspell-uk 1.6.1-1
    hyphen 2.7.1-2
    hyphen-en 2.7.1-2
    hyphen-ru 0.1-2
    hyphen-uk 0.1-1

    libreoffice-gnome 3.4.2-2

    mythes-en 20060306-1
    mythes-ru 0.1-2
    mythes-uk 0.1-2
    I thought that I missed some package due to splitting, then I installed "libreoffice-extensions". I also tried to downgrade to "libreoffice-3.4.1-1" (non-split) (I have no older packages).

    Thanks for your reply, but this does not work either.
    I noticed that "Tools/Options/Language Settings/Writing Aids/Available Language Modules" is empty, i.e. libreoffice does not see hunspell.

    I deleted ~/.config/.libreoffice .

  • Page Number does not work in @section

    Hi -
    Can someone please help me?
    I have an rtf template and I want to show the number of pages. I used the syntax - <?fo:page-number?> but it's not working because my page number is always 1 even if my pages is more than 1. Could it be because I'm using the @section on my for-each?
    Thank you,

    Entering shift+hyphen to get the underscore character in the dot leader definition works in all versions from 6.0 on upward (tested).

    Pierre,
    Are you using os 10.7.2?  The reason I ask is that my code does not have the word unicode in it and it still does not work.  Works fine when I select apply rules from the menu.  Does not work when mail processes rules as the email is first received.
