I have a game (Neverwinter Nights) that periodically updates itself. Yesterday, I got a dialogue box asking if it was okay for the game to modify my computer (happens every now and then). I meant to click "yes", but instead accidentally closed the box (which I believe defaulted to "no"). Now, I can't open the game. How can I fix this?

hello stmanley1970, those dialog boxes are not originating from firefox, but from your operating system windows 7. therefore please contact the support channels of the publisher of this game in order to receive help for this issue...

Firefox doesn't install new versions of plugins, but Flash may update itself automatically. 
You are still one version behind on Flash, current is Flash 10.1 r85 
If the Flash player didn't update properly then you need to download the full version and run the installer as Administrator (right-click: Run as ...)

There is no fix. It simply means that the software is outdated. Adobe would need to release a newer non-PPC version that supports Lion. They may have done that already, I don't know.

I do not know how it is done, but you MAY be able to buy her a regular subscription and pay with your credit card... just not the Education version that has strict requirements

How do I back up my computer if I can only open the restore disc

When I start my Mac book pro it shows the apple symbol with a losing bar underneath it. When the loading bar finishes the computer shuts back down. I then started my computer by first holding 'option' then pressing the power button. This brings up a screen where I can choose between two discs. One is Macintosh HD and the other is Restore- 10.8. I chose Restore -10.8 because I read that I would be able to repair my Macintosh HD disc with disc utility. So I open Restore - 10.8 then I open disc utility then I selected Macintosh HD and click repair disc. The details of the repair showed numerous issues including 'invalid leaf record count' 'missing thread record' 'Overlapped extent allocation' and then finally it said "the volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired". It said I have to backup as many files on my computer as I can, then reformat the disc. I know how to back up my computer regularly but I have no way of accessing my finder or home screen. So how do I back up my files from the Restore- 10.8 disc? Is it even possible and if not what can I do to not lose the files I haven't backed up?

If you are able to obtain an external hard drive you can format it to Mac OS Extended Journaled with a GUID partition. Then install Mac OS X onto the external hard drive and boot from it.
This will allow you to start up the computer and access your internal hard drive to copy the files manually off of it.

Can we avoid the dialogue box when changing brushes?

I am very new to Photoshop... like three days old and there is so much to learn I wonder if I ever will!
This is probably a laughable question to experienced users but I wonder if it is possible to not have this dialogue box pop up each time I switch brush sets?

One way is to hold down the Alt key at the same time you choose the new brush library.
I don't think anyone ever learns everthing there is to know about photoshop.
I can only speak for myself, but i'm always learning new ways to do stuff in photoshop.

I'm am having difficulty editing text in the iphoto book project. I have a text box that is pre-populated with text. I can edit the text once, then if I need to change something, it won't let me delete anything, only add to it. Anyone else having this problem?

You should be able to double click in the text box and add or delete text. First make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that doesn't help launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos, create a book and check to see if the same problem persists. Post back with the results.

Updated to Firefox 4.0, now I can't open the browser.

I'm running a Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 Just updated to Firefox 4.0 after Yahoo advised that things would run better. Upgraded from Firefox 3.1.16 (I think).......now I cannot open the Firefox browser at all....it won't let me launch the browser. It says: "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this system". How do I go back to the old version?.....at least I was able to launch it and use it? Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, Firefox 4 is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.4. You can download and reinstall the previous version (Firefox 3.6) from here: http://www.firefox.com/all-older.html

Lightroom crashed and now I can't open the catalog - even after deleting the lock file.

Lightrooms crashed, which is a common occurrance. But, this last time was different. After I restarted it my catalog was not linked and all my settings were gone. I tried opening the catalog through the file menu, but absolutely nothing happens. I tried going to the folder and clicking on it but this only opens lightroom with no catalog. After having scanned this forum I found that I need to delete the .lock file, but after doing that the same things happen. Any suggestions on how to open my catalog? Will reinstalling Lightroom help?

The problems mostly happen when I am using X-Y compare in Library mode. It shows black rectancles over the tops of the sections that contain the photos and these flash. They aren't always the same size, but are only on the top of the section - never big enough to completely cover the photos. Then I get anywhere from one to about four or five extra windows stacked on top of the Lightroom Icon at the bottom of my screen (I use Windows 8) opening and closing, though there isn't enough time for me to click on them and read them because my computer gets so slow that my mouse actin is delayed by a few seconds. And, to shut Lightroom down, I need to use Windows task manager because clicking on the little red box with the X in the upper right corner accomplishes nothing. I'm trying to move my Bookmarks from one user to another on rhe same computer, but I can't open the account of the original user as it keeps crashing my machine. How do I do this?

I set up another user account to start over as my original account keeps crashing my machine. I want to export my Bookmarks form my original account but I can open the account.Is there a way to get to the bookmarks from the administrator account and export to another copy of Firefox?

I recently updated my 2010 iMac 21.5 to MAVERICK. Now I have installed new versions of Pages and Keynote. I have been working on a KEYNOTE presentation that I am modifing for a new presentation at month end, and I can not insert new script. The template is blocked.
Also, when opening an existing PAGES, I get the message that a new version must be installed and it directs me to the app store to buy it for $19.95. Even though these new editions were installed free with MAVERICK, do I now have to purchased these updates?

Did you make the Keynotes presentation in the old or the new Keynotes, if you made it with the old version and try to modify it with the new there could be some incomaptibilites. Try opening the presentation with the original version of Keynotes which will probably be located in the Applications folder under iWork.
Does the message state you may or must purchase an upgrade. For most tasks the old Pages will work on many occasions.
I have the latest Pages to allow my devices to share over iCloud but I have not upgraded Numbers or Keynote as I do not require the functions the lastest versions provide.

NOw when I go and try to open the files from the computer it's giving me an error:

The file format is not supported or is invalid
WHat's confusing is that all files copy into my computer are already JPG. I have not changed anything, simply cut photos from my phone and copy them in my computer.

Try using a photo import utility or application for this instead of doing it the archaic manual way. Even Windoze includes a scanner and camera wizard that can be used for this.
