I accidentally deleted a folder from my dock.

I had created a folder containing various things and had it in my dock. It mainly contained stuff from my old mac. I wanted to drag it to my desktop, for what I cant even remember. But to my horror, it vanished. None of the files that I know were in the folder can be found when searching spotlight. Of course my time machine backup is sent off for a warranty repair and I havent gotten it setup. It blows my mind that it would just delete the entire folder without verifying your action and then not even stick it in the trash can. Its just gone. Please help!!   Thanks

Normally the dock is used for shortcuts. For example, you drag a frequently used application to it from the Applications folder. It's still in the Applications folder, but there's also a shortcut to it on the dock. When you want to get rid of one, you just drag it off the dock, which is what you did when you tried to move it to the desktop.
Anyway... you can try this:

I accidentally deleted a folder of music from iTunes.  I have Match, and now it seems deleted from all my devices.  How can I get it back?

Were you in iTunes or the Finder? If you were in iTunes what exactly did you click? You say "a folder" but the only "folders" in iTunes contain Playlists and deleting a playlist will not delete tracks from the iTunes library.
When you deleted the music were you prompted to delete the tracks from the cloud? If so, did you do so?
Were you prompted to move the files to the Trash. If so did you do so? If you did have you emptied the Trash?

I accidentally removed my Downloads Folder from my Dock.  How do I get it back?  Thank you.

    Charlie,
Thank you.  Much appreciated.  I do have an additional question... when I tried to follow your folloiwng guidance..
"One way to go to your home folder is to select "Got to Folder..." in the Finder Go menu and enter a tilde (~), then press return."
I couldn't make it work no matter how I entered it.  Maybe I don't understand what you mean by the (~).  I'm a novice as you can probably already tell.   - Terry

  • Accidentally deleted an Event from iphoto '08

I accidentally deleted an Event from iphoto....By opening the "Show Package Contents" option in Finder I am able to see the Folder (Event in the Iphoto Library) that I accidentally deleted from the iphoto window. I see also all of the photos in that folder. How do I go about reinstating these originals into the Iphoto Library so that I can recreate the Event that I accidentally deleted?
Also I noticed that when you delete or move to trash any photos or events of photos from Iphoto they do NOT appear IN the Trash and one cannot reinstate them from the Trash unless you are one step away and can "Undo move to trash". Please let me know what happens to the photos or events when one moves them to the trash or "deletes" them.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

That's what I like....succinct, clear, and perfectly accurate. THANK YOU.
If I could ask you a follow up.... On my previous laptop and previous version of iphoto, I and my family had over the years created quite a mess with my iphoto folders, with some photos not even in folders and sitting outside of the typical iphoto folders. My new iphoto functions just fine but I suspect some of the random photos and files which appear outside of the typical iphotos structure within my new iphoto package may not be showing up in my iphoto library (I have not yet gone thru and tried to check). so my questions are:
    1. What is the iphoto 08 Package Contents SUPPOSED to look like?(what are the specific folders that one should not touch)
    2. If there are other folders or files outside of this structure that may not be showing up in iphoto library, what would I do to import these back into the library? (I do not care if the data attached is missing but would like to make sure I have ALL of my past photos, including ones that I may have misfiled previously).
3.After I do the above, how do I clean up the Package Contents to make sure I leave along ONLY the files that Iphoto depends on.
    Thank you.

  • Finder resets itself to default local folder when I delete a folder from a server. How can I stop this?

    Hello there,
At work I use a Mac Pro (like this one: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/specs/mac-pro-quad-core-2.8-2008-s pecs.html)... and I have a very weird problem that is really annoying.
I don't have the information (but I can get it tomorrow) on the operating system or any information of the server I am having the issues with. But I was hoping maybe some one else with the same issue might have the answer without all of that information.
We use the server to access, open, edit, save, delete, move, etc... all of the files we are currently working on.  No files are ever transfered to our local computer's hardrive and then copied back to the server (don't ask me why, and don't tell me to do that, this is how it's done in the office, and this is what I have to do)...
The issue is this.  When I have to delete a folder from the server, which is usually a folder within a folder, and maybe within another folder, and another, and another (meaning it takes me time to look for this), the Finder deltes the folder (and asks if I am sure I  want to delete it, because it will be deleted forever since I am deleting it from the server)... and when I say yes, the Finder window that I am currently on (the folder which contains the folder that I am deleting) reverts back to the initial "device-folder" for my local mac pro... meaning the folder which is the main folder of that mac pro, where I can see the mac pro's hard drive, any external hardrives, any usb pen drives, any cds, etc...
So EVERY TIME I delete a folder on the server, which is more than 30 times a day, I get "kicked out" of the foler which contains the folder to be deleted, and gows back to tha "main" folder of my computer, so I have to go back to the server, back to the folder, and sometimes it is a folder, within a folder, within a folder, etc, etc, etc, ... and don't tell me the solution is to create a shortcut on my sidebar for that folder, because the folders are the jobs that I may be working on that day, so I could work on as many as 30 different folders per day, and I do have those in my sidebar, but it is still pretty annoying to have to go back to that folder.
One thing I noticed... SOMETIMES, not all the times... IF I delete two folders instead of one, it won't do it... or IF I drag the folder to the trash, instead of clicking on my "delete" icon on my finder's toolbar, it won't do it... but this is only SOMETIMES. So these are not the solutions either.
I can try to get a screen cap tomorrow of the issue, but if anyone has this same issue and knows how to fix it, plese let me know.
I will also try to get more info on my computers OS and the server.
    Thank you,
    MW

Hi PCM1, if i understand well the problem you have is when you click on a URL in a pdf file, the link opens in IE ? Have you checked in the default programs panel to see if all was well set ?

  • How to delete the Folder from sql server 2008

    Hi all,
I was trying to delete the folder from sql server 2008 with the below script
DECLARE @path VARCHAR(256) -- path for backup files
    DECLARE @cmd VARCHAR(8000)
    DECLARE @folderName VARCHAR(256) -- filename for backup
    SET @folderName = + (CONVERT(varchar(10), GETDATE()-7, 112))  -- 7 days back date folder name
    SET @path = 'I:\Backup_Test\' + @folderName -- Folder path
    SET @cmd = 'del ' + @path -- Delete
    EXEC master..xp_cmdshell @cmd
    --Print @cmd
This is not working it was asking the Confirmation (I:\Backup_Test\20100629\*, Are you sure (Y/N)? ) what will i do to the delete the folder.
    Thanks,
    Prasad R.

I would notice   you that T-SQL does not play well to do things like that. Do not you want using .net language to delete folders?
    Old method is
    declare @HR int, @CFOLDER varchar(255),@FSO int
        set @CFOLDER='D:\folder\'
        EXEC @HR = sp_OACreate 'Scripting.FileSystemObject', @FSO OUT
        EXEC @HR = sp_OAMethod @FSO, null, 'DeleteFolder', @CFOLDER
Now regarding to your second question please examine xp_fileexist  system stored procedure
    CREATE FUNCTION dbo.fn_file_exists(@filename VARCHAR(300))
      RETURNS INT
    AS
    BEGIN
      DECLARE @file_exists AS INT
      EXEC master..xp_fileexist @filename, @file_exists OUTPUT
      RETURN @file_exists
    END
    GO
    -- test
    SELECT dbo.fn_file_exists('c:\a.txt')

In preferences turn on iTunes sharing in iTunes preferences and keep iTunes turned on in both accounts. Or better yet put the iTunes library on the main HD rather than in an account and set the location of the library to that location in iTunes preferences.

I accidentally deleted an album from my itunes library and i want to buy it again but itunes is saying that i have already purchased it but i don't have it in my library. How do i buy the album again?

Sorry, but audiobooks cannot be downloaded more than once without charge, so if you don't have a viable backup, you may be out of luck. You can, however, contact the iTunes Store, explain the situation, and see if they can make an exception for you.

Log into the app store using the Apple ID you used to set your computer up. Look under purchases. If it is not there you may need to accept it or to unhide it

  • Is it possible to delete a folder from my Time Machine backups?

Hi. I have Time Machine running on my office computer. It has backed up all my data since September. Problem is that I need to delete a folder from the backups that contains personal work. Is it possible to delete 1 folder from all the backups? If not, where are the instructions for erasing the Time Machine hard drive (in my case, it's Time Capsule) and starting from scratch?
    Thanks!

Yes, but never do it directly with Finder or any tool other than TM itself.
    Here's how:
Run TM and access the folder you are interested in with the Finder that pops up when you run TM
When you find the folder you wish to remove select it and then click the small gear in the TM Finder menu and have TM remove that folder and all corresponding folders.
Again, never to into the TM backup directly or you can corrupt the database and make it useless.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
