To be honest, I have absolutely no idea!
I just take the route that I believe minimises any risk of something blowing up server side, and whilst it may well automatically disconnect, it only takes a few seconds to disconnect before connecting to the new account, and just eliminates that risk of a load of errors popping up :P

Sorry, but that is not supported at this time. You can stop using one of them by turning it off in the iCloud preferences, but any purchased items tied to the Apple ID will remain as such.

No, you chose to create a new account. You could have just as easily used the existing iTunes account.

Somehow I managed to create two Apple ID's. This started even before I got a Mac but when I opened my iTunes account...
Anyway, how do I merge them or do I have to figure out how to delete one profile? I'm only one person with one iPod and well, two Mac towers.

My apologies if you misunderstood my intent.
I am not mad at all and I am certainly not trying to start an argument.
I was simply just pointing out that this is the same for all tech companies and not just Apple.
Maybe it is simply that your exposure is only with Apple. I work in IT and spend my day managing a Windows network and the same refresh cycles exist. If you stand still, tech passes you by. I still have old machines on the network that serve their purpose and as long a s they do, it is irrelevant to me if they are supported or not.
I love my old G5 but it's now collecting dust because it still runs but it's "outdated".
Being "outdated" certainly does not make it useless. If it does not do what you need it to do then that is a different story. Hardware improves, software takes advantage of it and eventually old technologies become insufficient to run newer software. You certainly have the option to run the older software on the older machine but if you want the new bells & whistles it requires improved hardware. It is a matter of expectation.

If you turn off the sign out of iCloud account then you can save some of the things to the iPhone or iOS device.
When you sign back into the other Apple ID you can then merge the info.
Note this can duplicate contacts.

I'm afraid you can't merge IDs. You can enter more than one iCloud account to a device but only the first one you add will actually sync. You need to have the same account as the primary account on each Mac or device.
