I accidently put vr files in trash but did not delete, now stuck on grey screen after battery dying! Help

I am not very tech savvy but recently used a program that tells you what programs and files are using up large amounts of space on your computer I think it was called disc utility maybe. I deleted a whole bunch of things but accidently deleted a folder called vr, I realised I made a mistake and went to remove it from the trash when my laptop died, now it won't turn on past the grey screen with the apple logo!
I didn't delete the files they are just sitting in the trash. Is there anything I am able to do? I don't have any install discs or anything or wifi at my house or have any computer knowledge really. Please help!

Also, this is kind of embarrassing, but if my trackpad happened to be broken to where I couldn't click it (broke a while back, but I use an external mouse so it never really bothered me) can I hold down the mouse button on my external mouse at startup to eject the cd or does it have to be the trackpad. If not, is there another way I can eject the cd?

Hi. I down load all of my pictures to iPhoto. I was removing some even folders to make room, but DID NOT delete any of the ones I needed (and there are a lot of photos as I am a photographer just starting out). All of my photos are gone. ALL of them.

I am so sick to my stomach. I was deleting some even files due to the fact that the start up disk was almost full but DID NOT delete everything. I finished what I was doing and then went to dinner. I came home to do more editing and EVERYTHING is gone. EVERYTHING, but the iphoto program was still there. Is there any chance that these pictures could still be somewhere on the hard drive?

Did you use the finder to delete any photos that are in iPhoto?
If so you have trashed your library - you choices are to put it back EXACTLY like it was, restore your backup or start over (right click on the iPhoto library and show package contents, drag the masters folder to the desktop, create a new library and start importing
NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library - ONLY use iPhoto to manage yoru photos

If you've forgotten the passcode then you will need to connect the iPad to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

Cannot connect remotely, setup is correct but did not try port mapping, i don,t know how please help

could someone please point me to the possible areas on my server where i can check why i cannot connect remotely. I have been trying for the past two months without success. i did not tru port mapping cause I don;t know how to do this and I was told that port mapping on my time machine is done automatically. To properly close Firefox on your Mac use "Firefox" button -> Quit Firefox, and not with the "X" in corner of window which simply closes the window and not necessarily Firefox.

Try Find Any File (also available in the Mac App Store). This will find hidden & invisible files as well as those in the various Libraries.

Update downloaded but did not update now thinks app is up to date

I purchased X3 Terran Conflict a couple of weeks ago. There was an update available yesterday which I selected to do. The update was 6.9Gb and took a few hours to download. I paused and resumed the download only once. When downloaded there was a button 'Update', unfortunately it was very late so I just shut the computer down. This morning the AppStore says all apps are up to date! The AppStore says X3 should be version 3.1.1 and the loading screen for X3 says 3.1, so it looks like the update hasn't been applied.
Is the downloaded update somewhere on my machine and I have to run it manually? Or can I get the AppStore to show the X3 update again?

The apps are installed to your Applications folder.

There are some MAS known bugs where an update shows as available but really isn't. One thing you might try is installing the v10.6.7 combo update.
It's ok to do this even if you are already running v10.6.7.

The optimizer can reduce space, but some things can't get smaller. Text for example. Play with the settings, examine the results of Audit Space Usage.
Or give up. Even 5 MB is too large for a bulk mailing, by far. Instead put it on your web site and mail a link - done!

How do i delete files in my trash that will not delete

I am having trouble deleting files in my trash that will not delete. I tried unlocking locked files but it will not let me unlock them while they are in trash. I also can not pull them back out of trash to unlock. They remain stuck in trash. Please help.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
If you have to resort to trying to pull back the library from your iPod see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
Note also that if iTunes has an entry for a song, even if that entry is broken, then it won't offer that track for download since it "thinks" you already have it. If you can't find the original files or recover them from a device, then you may need to delete the broken entries, close iTunes and reopen before you can access the past purchases.
