I accidently set Firefox as my default browser. I want to keep Safari as my default browser. How do I fix this? Thanks.

I made the mistake of making Firefox my default browser. I do not want it as my default. I use Safari for that. How and where do I remove Firefox as the default?
Thanks.
Eileen

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• After updating my browser my "open a new tab" button has become useless, how do I fix this?

I recently updated to Firefox 3.6.17 and now my "Open a new tab" + button has become useless, it is still there, it just doesn't work anymore, how can I fix this, any suggestions?

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

You can toggle caret browsing mode with the F7 key that you may have pressed by accident.

• After installing firefox 17.1 it will ask intermittanly to restart comptuer to complete upgrade. How do I fix this . I have already tried uninstall/reinstall

Question
After installing firefox 17.1 it will ask intermittanly ask to restart comptuer to complete upgrade. How do I fix this . I have already tried uninstall/reinstall . I have deleted the mozilla folder out of C:\. I have made sure plug ins are up to date. Security is not blocking mozilla.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
#Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

• My homepages go back to my old default, no matter what changes I make to them in options - how do I fix this?

I have tried many different combinations; not even the "restore to main default" button works. No matter what I do, the same set of homepages comes up the next time I load Firefox. I know there is a way to fix this - it happened to me once before, years ago - but I can't find the solution I used last time. (It might have been a mozdev page, but I didn't have any luck there, either.) I just installed Firefox 3.6.15 today, and tried again, still no luck. I've been messing with this for months now, trying to come up with a solution - please help?

Thank you so much cor-el, that did the trick. Getting rid of the user.js file was all it took. I knew the answer was a simple one, I just couldn't find it. I think I just wasn't asking the right questions.
Thanks again.

• When i go to download firefox the download says that it was interrupted so it could not be finished how do i fix this

I would like to download Firefox because some webpages do not show properly, but when i go to download the program when it hits 99% it says that the download was interrupted and could not be finished. what is wrong? and how do i fix it?

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

I updated firefox last night and now none of my history will show up in my location bar. Everytime I either close the browser window or start a new tab I have to completely type out new addresses.

• Firefox has always opened with an extra tab that says "server not found." How can I fix this?

Several years ago, I downloaded Firefox for the first time on my Xp machine. The browser opens to the home page, but up in the tab area, there is always, and I mean through EVERY version and upgrade since that first one, including the most recent version 4, there is a second tab just to the right of the home page tab that says, "server not found." Now, since the home page loaded, it is obvious to me that the server WAS indeed "found." what I don't understand is why this second tab is there. Any ideas? I have read through the FAQ about not finding the server, and nothing there is relevant to this, as far as I can see.

How many pages do you have set as your "homepage"? <br />
Firefox allows for multiple homepages in separate tabs, separated by the pipe | symbol.
Try resetting your homepage. <br />
