I added a program but somnehow ended up with "searchqu" as my search engine, how do you get rid of it?

I added a program that somehow put the search engine "searchqu" on my computer. How do you get rid of it? I looked up in the web engines and it is not listed. A blog board I read says it is coming through google chrome that it has to be uninstalled... any ideas?

Searchqu gets installed if you don't opt-out of the installation when you install a 'free' app from bandoo.com which provides free emoticons.
If you have this app on your system now, uninstall it first, otherwise searchqu will reappear again after you complete the following steps. 
To revert to Google as your preferred search engine, please do the following. 
#In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter. 
#In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL''' 
#Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q= 
#In the filter at the top again, copy/paste the following (remove keyword.URL first): '''browser.startup.homepage'''

#Close the tab. 
#Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Extensions and remove these add-ons if they're in there: '''Windows iLivid Toolbar '''and '''SearchquToolbar '''.

The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.

I deleted the 4oD app from my iPad but it still appears in the list in Settings. How do I get rid of that? It is causing problems when they issue updates as it apparently thinks I still have it when I don't.

Can any one help me get rid of a deleted app 4oD that still appears in the Settings list. I deleted it from the home screen and Spotlight search confirms it has gone. It is causing problems because I get notified of updates and I cannot get rid of them either. I have tried re-downloading via my MacBook because there isn't a download option from the iPad (App Store clearly think I still have it when I don't) then deleting again but the listing in Settings remains.
It is really irritating me.

Have you tried deleting the App within the Settings menu (rather than from the Home Screen)?
Settings>General>Usage>
From the Apps list, find the App (press "Show all Apps" if the app is not in the immediately shown list), tap on the app you wish to delete, then tap "Delete App"

How do you get rid of files which you downloaded but they will not show you their location?

I have downloaded a file from the internet and i can find it when i look under "mpg.download" but the finder will not actually show me the location of the file so I can manually remove it. I suspect it is a viral file which will cause some problems. How do you remove these type of files?

Still in the sidebar when starting up the Mac, there is the former owners Home Folder and not one for me. I want to delete her Home Folder and get one in the sidebar for me. I've tried all the things I could think of the delete her folder, but can't seem to do it as there isn't a button or prompt that I can click on to delete her folder and create one for me as the adminstrator. If I have understood you properly, to do that, you have to create a new administrator user with your name and for your uses. Follow these steps:
1. Open System Preferences > Users & Groups, and press the + button to create a new administrator account.
2. When you have finished creating that user, open  > Log Out, and log in your new user.
3. Open System Preferences > Users & Groups, select the old user and press the - button to remove the user. If you want, you can select the option to remove the Home folder of this user, so you will only have the Home folder for your account

As of the current version, I don't believe there is a way to tell the App Store app to ignore updates. You can send Apple feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/, but in short there is nothing you can do. As long as you don't try to update the app (either pressing the update button or update all), the app should continue to work fine with your data remaining intact. It has been a while since I've tried to update an app that isn't supported (last time was under iOS 3 or 4), so I can't comment about what would happen if you did try to update it. (My best guess is it will display an alert saying it is not compatible, and leave the previous version there, but not take away the 'update' in the APp Store app updates page).
