I already have a MacBook Pro, is getting a MacBook air overkill?

I am Pre-Med student and bought a 13in MacBook Pro when I started college in 2011 and I got an iPad 2 as a graduation present. I find that I don't use my iPad all that much because I find it difficult to type on in class and my MBP is so heavy that I hate lugging it around. Another reason that I hate carrying it is because I spent so much on it that I hate for something to happen to it in the abyss of my booksack, I've already had to replace the screen on it once, I don't want anything worse happening to it. So, I thought the solution to my problem would be an 11in MacBook Air. I know they're not as heavy and definitely not as expensive.I feel like it would be easier to carry around and use when I'm at school and it would be easy to move my notes from my the MBA to my MBP.
I  guess my main question here is: Am I being silly? Will I really enjoy having the MBA and have an easier time using it while I am at school? Or do I need to just suck it up and carry this big heavy thing with me?
I would really appreciate some feedback!

I am tired of the glare. What can I do???
You can't do anything but file a huge complaint with Apple and join the chorus.
https://macmatte.wordpress.com/
I've already contacted Steve jobs about this issue long ago and we got the anti-glare MacBook Pro's back and the new iMac's have 75% reduced glare, but that's the last I've heard about it and it's not enough really.
There is about 1% glare glass, but the technology can't be exported to China where Apple makes it's stuff as it's a trade/military secret.
Last I heard Apple is going to start making Mac's in Texas, which would allow anti-glare touchscreen glass to be a possibility in future Mac's.
So keep sending those emails to Cupertino is all I can say.

    Hi Cereskit
Thanks again for the message. I've done the updates and have the App Store on my desktop. I went into it and searched for imovie but couldn't find the basic imovie, which I presume is what I'd need for editing?, rather than imovie 11 for £10.49, which is for making trailers, it seems. Also, were you saying that imovie would be free?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

What about the incredable lag time from clicking on a program to the time it opens (or the time till the loading screen starts)? I wish I could record it and play it so I could see if thats normal from other members... the icon just sitting there for over 35 second (I just counted 36 till the loading screen popped up) at first I thought it was me not clicking hard enought cuz the mouse button I have is real stiff (any ideas on that?) but no it takes that long just to get to the app loading screen... this happens every time same amount of time with the 3 programs I use the most, prolly more but I know for a fact world of warcraft, uTorrent, and Google Chrome. I would just chalk it up to slow hardware but they load real quick in windows 7 and once this bad spot is loaded the program runs so fast and nice afterword. Maybe some tweeks? I wonder if this would happen in Snow?
The coment "few outdated programs" Ive seen alot its not just a few its a lot and since games are not Apple's strong point I would think they would want to keep as many as they could...
An example of the rants you will see from a lot here. Don't be put off as these problems are generally user specific, and these same old comments come out after the release of every OSX I can remember. When Lion is upgraded  to the next OSX you can gaurentee these forums will be full of people screaming about how great Lion was. Happened with Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.
So come to think of it you may be better off Googling sites that give you unbiased views on Lion, rather than expect any positive comments here. For every one complaint there are probably 100,000 people with no issues.

  • I have a MacBook Air 13 , mid 2009 & am trying to get it to show power point on a projector, I have the correct plug. Do I have to pst some keys to fire up the projector ? Kevin

I have a MacBook Air 13 , mid 2009 & am trying to get it to show power point on a projector, I have the correct plug. Do I have to push some keys to fire up the projector ? Kevin

The short answer is no. You will, however need to fire up the projector manually, and then change the input for the projector (if it hasn't already) to that of the computer. Once the projector is fired up and displaying an image of the screen of your computer, simply start the powerpoint as you normally would, since the projector will mirror your screen. If you will be talking for long periods of time without pressing any keys, or advancing the presentation, you might want to change the energy saver preferences to stop the computer from going to sleep as fast as it would. Does all this help?
    Best of luck!

I already have a quicktime pro key, had to reload quicktime how do i insert the key i have without having to buy the program again

QuickTime Player -> Edit menu -> Preferences -> Register
Enter in the user name and key as sent to you by Apple.
For any future questions about QuickTime, those will usually get the quickest response if posted in the QuickTime forum.

I already have a acrobat pro subscription but instead of giving my the download button it gives me the subscribe now button

    Hi paulp,
I've checked your account. It looks as though you purchased Acrobat outright (versus getting a subscription). Is that not what you thought you purchased?
That order is currently processing, but once it goes through, you should get a confirmation email from Adobe with instructions for downloading your software. If you're logged on to http://cloud.acrobat.com/acrobat, then that page would be prompting you to subscribe (since you don't have a subscription).

  • I have a macbook air bought in 2010 wit liquid damage that might has affected the SSD card. I need to get my data but apple won't help. Authorized dealers never seem to have the same model to try whether the SSD card works. How can I get my data quickly?

    Hi
I have a macbook air bought in 2010. It has liquid damage that might or might not affected the SSD card. I need the data on my SSD card for work and I need it urgently. Apparently Apple won't get the data out, even if I have apple care... Licensed apple dealers need to have the same macbook air model so they can insert the SSD card and check whether the data is there, and they never seem to have one...
I'm really disappointed with apple. It's been two weeks and I haven't been able to find out whether the SSD card is holding my data. It can't take that long to do it in store... How can they sell a product and then wash their hands on the matter?
Anyway, enough with the apple rant. I need to get this data urgently so I need to find out how I can get it out of the card. The SSD card and data might be fine so I don't want to take it to a data recovery centre and get charged loads.
    Thanks for your help.

See this link for a 4870 card, best instructs for flashing for a noob like me. (last lowest price was $150 for a 1GB vRAM 4870 from TigerDirect).

However, not every 4870 card will work with the ROM currently floating around out there. BEWARE!

  • I have a Macbook Air.  What is the advantage of getting an Ipad?

I would like to know if there is any advantage to getting an Ipad.  I have the Macbook Air....does this do everything that the Ipad would do?

It does much more than the iPad can do. If you have the money to spend - and you need even more portability - or if you just have to have the latest tech thing - buy an iPad. You certainly do not need one if you have the MBA.
But you were a "I just have to have the latest thing" type of person, I assume that you would have bought an iPad by now. If you get the urge, go to an Apple Store or anywhere that sells iPads and check one out for yourself and see what you think about it.

  • I have a macbook air and have been deleting icons, like safari, how do I retreive lost shortcuts?                        do I get them back?

Hi, I have a Macbook Air, and I have been deleting icons, from the bottom of the screen like safari, how do I get them back?

You can reset your dock to the defaults by copying this text, pasting it into the Terminal app, and hitting Return. You can find the Terminal App in the Applications/Utilities folder.
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.db
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    killall Dock

  • HT5639 Do I need to uninstall boot camp 4 before I install and update to boot camp 5. I already have windows 8 pro with boot camp 4 installed. Do I need to unistall boot camp 4 or not necessary?

I already have windows 8 pro with boot camp 4 installed on my macair book 11". I have searched the entire articles on how to upgrade boot camp 4 to boot camp 5 but have found no answer as to my question: Do you have to uninstall boot camp 4 drivers before you install boot camp 5? I am not sure if it is ok to install boot camp 5 directly without uninstalling boot camp 4 because there might be driver version conflict. So I have not installed boot camp 5. Is it ok to install boot camp 5 withoust uninstalling boot camp 4? Your answers will be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You don't have to uninstall Boot Camp 4 drivers before installing Boot Camp 5 drivers. Boot Camp 5 drivers will simply overwrite Boot Camp 4 drivers, so you don't have to uninstall old drivers before installing new ones and making that process easier
