I already owned and used OS X Yosemite, but had to wipe my hard drive yesterday, and had only one disk that I could find: Snow Leopard.  How do I download Yosemite without paying for it again?

I'd like to download Yosemite.  I am using Snow Leopard.  Do I have to download the next OS X in order, or can I go straight to Yosemite, and if so, how do I go about it?

If the computer has a recovery partition, press the Command and R keys at startup and use it to download Yosemite. If not, open the Mac App Store, log in with your Apple ID, click on the Purchases tab, and redownload Yosemite from there.
Both of these are free.
