I am a new Macbook Pro user (just the 13" baby). I have an external DVD drive and would like to load onto my Mac and then onto my iPad - how do I do this?

I am a new MacBook Pro user - actually totally new to the Mac goodies and am having a bit of trouble sorting out how to get a DVD from my external DVD player onto the Mac and then onto my iPad (I travel a lot!). I have been a windows user for many years and am still trying to learn all the bits and pieces. I have VLC on this - don't have any trouble playing a DvD, just don't know how to do the rest i.e. rip it, change to an MP4 and get it onto my other device. Please help! You are more than likely to see many more "how do I do this" on here!

If you want to stop sending reports to Apple and developers when apps crash, then go to System Preferences, click on Security & Privacy and click on Privacy. You will then see on the left side of the window an section for Diagnostics & Usage with the option to turn off sending crash data to app developers. Set up iTunes on a new MacBook Pro to access an existing music library on an external hard drive?

We just replaced an old MacBook with a new MacBook Pro. We had to keep our iTunes library on an external hard drive because we didn't have space on the old computer. Since our library is large, I'd prefer to keep it that way with the new computer. I want to set it up to see the library on the external hard drive but as I've had issues with iTunes in the past so I wanted to know how to do this from the beginning instead of guessing. Help!

You have to click on the external drive, you will be able to play your tunes, plg in your external dive then double click on your exdrive, all your music should be there. just click on the song/playlist off the exdrive and they should play.

It sounds to me like you have some file corruption somewhere. Either in the transfer of your library to the external or the external itself is flaky if it keeps ejecting.

All of your content should be transferred to the new Mac when you sync. However, if you want to be safe, you can select the transfer purchases options, then sync the iPad.
Read this article about syncing. There is a section in the article that states that all of your purchased content may not transfer over to new Mac when you sync. I have NEVER had that problem when syncing but the article does talk about transferring purchases just in case. Not a bad idea really ... better to be safe than sorry!

My son just bought and started using a MacBook Pro straight of the box. We have him on our home network that we have secured.
Does he has a false sense of security?? Should he have some programs--security wise--install on his Pro??
I have been a PC user for years and always keep everyone's computers up and running, so I just want to pass any words of wisdom from the Mac World on to him...besides I am so jealous and I am thinking my next notebook will be just like his, and security is something this mom is always thinking about. Unfortunately there are lots of security threats, some of which may apply to Macs.
You should turn on the firewall if it isn't on by default.
You should make sure to do software updates as they are issued.
But these days the biggest threat it not with things that a firewall can stop, because it's things that you get yourself, via mail or web. OS X is pretty good. They fix most security problems quickly. But there are still risks. I don't know any security software that can protect you against installing software that has spyware built in, or against a web site that has exploits of a bug that hasn't been fixed yet.
Your risk depends a lot upon what you do. Marginal software such as that used to do illegal file sharing has significant risks even for the Mac.

if you jump to 07:50 the dude clearly shows that it IS supported in PPRo CC (which I have), but when I go to the project settings on my new MBP 15" with identical specs, the area where I can select gpu support is greyed out with no options to change from software only. Did the expert guy in the video accidentally show the settings from his old NVIDIA MBP? Very confusing!! Also, there's a lot of publicity around the Intel Iris Pro's great ability to render Open CL with Adobe PPRo. And even a video about it here:

Is this only for PC?? If so I imagine Adobe can get this going on Mac pretty damn fast, no?

you can reset the input source to Spanish by selecting the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, selecting the Input Sources tab, and pressing the “+” button in the lower-left corner to select one of the Spanish input sources. The “Spanish – ISO” input source is most similar to the physical Spanish keyboard layout.
