I am a new user, how do I get started?

Hi guys! I am a new Mac owner and am new to iChat.. How do I get started and what are the differences between this and skype, and what are the benefits over skype?

Differences.
You can use an AIM valid name from AIM or Apple and a Jabber ID (Many Public Jabber servers or a GoogleMail ID enabled for Talk).
This will give you access to Buddies on two of the major IM services.
The Video Quality is generally better in iChat.
On an Intel Mac iChat 5 uses 30 Frames a sec even down to the first MacBook Pros that are 3 and 1/2 years old.
The Pic size can vary depending how fast the processor is but the general size is 640 X 480 pixels (0.3 megapixels)
The Internal iSights of later Macs can produce a higher resolution but iChat sticks (where it can) to this size
It is backwards compatible with iChat 2 through 4 and AIM (On an PC) from AIM 5.5 through to the current AIM 7.2.x.x (Although success and quality can vary depending on how the Buddy is also set up).
iChat always uses a set of dedicated ports to Video or Audio Chat and does not resort to using common Mail App ports or the web browsing port to get around any firewall.
Video and Audio Only Chat are Peer-to-Peer connections.
These last two make iChat more secure.
iChat to iChat you can Video up to 3 other people at once or 9 others in a Audio Only chat.
You get iChat Screen Sharing (with an Audio chat from iChat 4 onwards
You get iChat Theatre for displaying Pics or other File's documents as the "video"
Other than that they apps that can text or do Video or Audio Chats

An iPad does not have a user model. There is no 'log on' page, nowhere to enter a username and password. An iPad is just an iPad and doesn't know who is using it.

New User: Needs Help with getting started with the Z

Hi, my son got a creative Zen for xmas, only getting round to getting it together now, and having some problems with the manual. All this is new to us -technology etc. We have managed to rip a CD but cant get any further! Downloading from internet sounds like such a good idea, but 'know-how-to do' seems light years away in this house! Is there an easy start manual or step by step directions that I've missed out on somewhere? the quick start manual is fine for learning how to use the player but doesn't give any info on ripping CDs and whatever comes after. Can any of you 'experts' bring yourselves back to the begining and explain what to do in simple english?

I moved and edited your message as your are more likely to get help out here. As far as suggestions go for downloading from the internet goes, there is not a lot of difference between getting it from CDs. The main difference is the process of actually getting the music.
First off there are several music stores out there and some that are free. Here are a few suggestions (this is all personal knowledge, this is not an official endorsement of any of these):
Napster - Integrates into Windows Media Player if you desire and can transfer directly to most Zens. Also allows a user to subscribe to an account that allows for streaming and computer only downloads of music (must purchase song to transfer to the player...usually around .99 a song)
Buymusic.com - Website interface that sells individual tracks and albums.
Wallmart music store - Website interface that sells individual tracks and albums.
There are others but these three are the mains ones (outside of itunes, which is designed for the Ipod).
Basically once you download them, you go into MediaSource or Windows Media Player and add the files to the music library. Then you just transfer like you do with CDs.

We got the Ipad2 for Christmas. I followed instructions to download itunes latest version and it says it did so successfully. Connected Ipad to computer using USB and then it says to follow onscreen instruction to set up ipad. There are no on screen instrucions. Please help.

You have to purchase it. Major ugrades from Apple are not free. Leopard is no longer sold so copies are getting difficult to find and prices are pretty high. Apple may have copies still for sale:

Did you delete the library ?
If no, press the Option/alt key when you open iTunes and you should see a message and be able to choose a library.

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match , Apple does not keep a backup of your iTunes library. Even then it is not the library as it exists on your computer, but some version of the media, and only media files, not playlists. Even then not all media are definitely available since anything removed from the iTunes Store since you purchased it is not available for re-download.

In your case it sounds like you will have to obtain non iTunes purchases from their original source or a backup you may have made at some time in the past.

Did you choose the wrong back up? There should be a drop box when you go to "Restore from Back up" in iTunes and your iPhone is plugged in, on the Summary page. Choose the correct back up. If you can't find one, and you still have your device, back up your iPhone 4 again and then choose that back up. Or check for an old iCloud back up if you have one.
