I am about to update to OS Lion. Will this affect a previously partitioned Hard Drive atall?

I have a partitioned hard drive and am about to install an operating system upgrade of LIon. With an already partitioned harddrive are there any issues that I need to be aware of such as loss of data on the windows portion etc?
Thanks for any help or experience you have .

No, an OS X installation does not alter the partition map.
Back it up anyway, as a precaution against the unexpected.

  • If I upgrade to lion will it affect my previous applications?

It's my greatest fear in upgrading to Lion, will it affect my previous installed applications? Hey guys, pls do enlighten me on this matter.

Well, there are many reports of keynote being sluggish and unresponsive in this discussion. But nothing on pages that I've seen. Uninstalling / re-installing keynote has not helped those having problems, so I doubt you would need your installer there. iWork was recently updated to work with Lion, and it works fantastic here. Ur best bet would be to clone your SL setup to an external drive and then update to Lion on that for testing. Then if you are happy, you can clone the external onto your internal.

  • Mountain lion will not install - messages says the hard drive is for time machine

basically i have gone thru the install process
I get to screen that asks which drive to install
I have 3 drives that show up
    Mac-ssd
    bootcamp
    mac storage drive
it will not let me pick any drive(have not tried bootcamp)
it says that this drive is being used by time machine

Your Mac has a directory named Backups.backupdb located on it.  If you have good time machine backups somewhere else, you can delete the directory and ML will allow you to select the drive.

Can't say anything about Lightroom, but Adobe officially supports CS6 all the way through Mountain Lion.

  • I have a mac and am thinking about upgrading from snowlepard to lion , is it a good idea and hard to adapt to

i have a mac and am thinking about upgrading from snowlepard to lion , is it a good idea and hard to adapt to

This is my "About This Mac" ... it shows I have Intel i7 CPU.  If you are running SL, you at least have Intel, but would need at least Core2Duo an 2 GB (most people suggest 4 GB) RAM.
If you want to run Lion, remember that the discussions in this forum from last summer when Lion first came out (and since) were highly charged at times.  Certain features that vanished or were added caused great heartache for some.  Others love Lion, though.  And some live with the changes waiting for any fixes they would desire.
Any PPC (PowerPC) applications you depend upon will not work under Lion.  Use this page to see what applications will not run:  http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
    AND
Recall that you can clone your SL to an external disk to keep it safe.  Then you can "experiment with" the new OSX (Lion or ML) until you know it works for you while still having your old SL safe in case you need it.
    Good luck.

When I update to Mountain Lion later this month, will I still be able to run iWeb?

Here is some info on MobileMe and the role it plays re. iCloud and iWeb - it appears you can keep using iWeb with another web hosting service (scroll down):

my macbook pro running lion will not boot . it stays on the grey page with the cog spinning. I have tried all methods of booting to no avail. I have removed the bottom and taken out the battery and the ram . will this affect my applecare warranty. I had to try myself as I'm overseas for two months and nowhere near any sort of help .

there was a recent software update that seemed to screw HDV up.  Do some searching here over the last month or 2 and you'll find a bunch of posts and some possible solutions.
Worst case scenario, do as Shane suggests.  But might I suggest you take a look at the user tips section of the forum.  there are some great tips on how to prevent these sorts of problems by cloning your startup drive, etc.

  • Before Mac OS X lion install I had over 50% free hard drive space on new MBP, but now my hard drive is full without me doing anything! How do I fix this??? Or should I just revert to Snow Leopard???

Sounds like the Time Machine Local Backup.  Try turning Time Machine Off in System Preferences to verify.
See: OS X Lion: About Time Machine's "local snapshots" on portable Macs
    But, your real problem is
I forgot to mention that I tried to use Disk Utility to Verify Disk, but it cannot. I get red errors that say the MacHD is corrupt and needs to be repaired. It says that in order to do this I need to use the Disk Utility on the install disk, but Lion doesn't have one!
Boot into Lion's Recovery (Hold ⌘R on Boot), select Disk Utility and then select Macintosh HD and click [Repair Disk]

  • Bought OSX Lion on Family pack have purchased new hard drive where can I get OSX lion now

Had a family Pack under Aplle where we shared all updates on OS X one computer has installed new hard drive but no copy available now for OSX lion How do we solve this problem?

Not sure what you purchased as a "family pack", but Lion does not have that option available. However, if you purchase it from the app store, then the license authorizes you to download it as often as needed on any computer YOU own and control. Since it is tied to your Apple ID (the ID used to purchase it), no one else can download it. Even if you gave other family members your Apple ID to use, it would be violating the licensing requirements and be considered software piracy.
If you installed a new hard drive on your computer or another computer you own, it should be available. Since this is a new blank hard drive, you may need to reinstall the original system (Snow Leopard?) and then go back to the app store as you need to have SL installed to download Lion. If you made a bootable clone of the old drive, you could simply clone that back.

  • With Mountain Lion being released within a few months, how will this affect Lion certifications?

What options will Apple provide for those with Lion certifications in regard to Mountain Lion?  Will there be a whole new certification for ML or will Apple provide a free traing option that will update my Lion certification for ML?

With Mountain Lion being released within a few months, how will this affect Lion certifications?
I doubt that it will be in a few months. Best guess would be August, since they want to have an annual upgrade path.

  • I want to know if I can backup my Ipad to an external harddrive. I have a pc with xp pro media edition and a partitioned hard drive with very little space on C and lots on D. I am trying to update my Ipad to 5.1.1 and it says it needs 12  gb to backup.

I have a Sony Vaio desktop PC with a partitioned hard drive, running Windows XP Pro. There is 13 gb on C drive with the OS, and 140 gb left on D drive. I am  trying to update my Original Ipad from 4.3.4 to 5.1.1 and because C drive is full ( I have moved everything that can be moved to D drive) mostly from Microsoft updates over the years, I am unable to do  the backup Itunes is telling me I have to do to update or lose all media on this iPad. 12.67 gb is required to do the backup and I have a whopping 965.2 MB.  I can not get the cloud to use as backup as it requires 5.0 or better. Does anyone know if I can back up to D drive,  and if so how? Also, I have a 1 terrabyte WD mini external hard drive I just got as a gift...could I do the backup to it and, again, if so, how? Please explain from start to finish, as my brain is now fried from, first from finally getting Itunes updated to 10.6 ,and now trying to do this update. Thanks to anyone for their help!!

iOS device backups are stored in your iTunes library.
Move your iTunes library to an external drive.

Do you get this window when you hold down the Command+Option keys and launch iPhoto?
If not then you're not holding down both keys long enough.

  • How can the number of used computers used for itunes be updated? I had to reinstall itunes on a new hard drive

How can the number of computers used for an iTunes account be updated? I had to reinstall itunes on a new hard  drive it and counted as an additional computer, against my 5 total computers.

wait until you reach the limit of five authorized machines. then, once a year, you will be able to deauthorize all machines, following which you can reauthorize those computers you currently use/have access to.

Do noy buy yourself a world of trouble.  This forum will refuse to answer "Why is my JB phone not connecting to internet?????"  And his "help" post was removed.  The facts about Apple's official position are clear, for those who want Apple's continued support.  John does not like it, but not liking it never made something untrue.
