I am afraid I am going to wipe out my apps on my Ipod Touch.

I have had my Ipod Touch 3rd Gen 64 gig for about a month now and its about the most amazing thing i have ever used, however there is one annoying thing I would love to have fixed. When i connect the touch to my pc to charge it, itunes automatically pops up and of course shows my touch on the left hand side of the screen. If I click on the touch, then click on the APPS tab on top of the screen it shows a list of all my apps and AUTOMATICALLY checks all the apps that i have downloaded since the last time my touch was connected and gets them ready to be synced. I have the settings set to PREVENT IPODS, TOUCHES, IPHONES FROM SYNCING AUTOMATICALLY, and it does NOT sync automatically. HOWEVER, if i do want to swap out apps for new ones or just add new ones i have to go through the whole list and uncheck the new ones i dont want. (thanks to appshopper.com i download ALOT of apps every day so there are ALOT to sift through. I want the option to do ALL ot this myself and not have to worry about the pc taking over and chcking all new apps automatically. Here is where my question lies. When i am on this screen with my app list and my ipod touch, above the pic of the touch there is a box markd SYNC APPS, this is ALWAYS checked, i am assuming this is why it keeps checking all the new apps automatically for m to sync them. When i go th click that little check mark off this comes up"are you sure you do not want to sync applications? all existing applications and thie rdata on your ipod touch will be removed" This is exactly what i DONT want to happen. I have a lot of apps on the touch that have some VERY important info on it like checkbooks apps, contact appps, ect ect and if they were to be deleted, it would be devistating because the touch is pretty much the only place i maintain this info now. So basically my question is, can i stop th darn thing from automatically checking the boxes WITHOUT wiping everything out of my touch. Thank you very much.

No.

My built in FaceTime app on my iPod touch will not proceed from the email verification step of the setup process. I have tried going into settings like app support showed but when I click FaceTime it just shows the sign in screen just like before and does the same thing. Please help me to fix this.

  • My current laptop is about 3 years old. Got a virus and had to wipe it clean. Now my IPod touch 2nd generation won't recognize this computer as the one it was originally assigned to.  what do I need to do to safeguard my tunes on the Ipod touch.

My current laptop is about three years old and got a virus.  Had to wipe it clean.  Now my Ipod Touch-2nd generation is not recognizing it as the primary original computer and says it is registered on another computer.  What can I do to safeguard my library of songs on the Ipodtouch.  Any suggestions?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • IOS updates - fails *EVERY* single time, completely wipes out all apps

Ok, so I'm trying to be calm and collective about this but it will be extremely hard.
I updated the iOS version on my iPad (v1) today to 5.1.1.  Since I have had troubles every time I've updated iOS (regardless of device iPod, iPad, iPhone) I made 2 separate backups of my iPad before continuing... and specifically DID NOT CLICK on the "Hey there's a software update for your device" when it popped up when I plugged in the device as my very first experience with updating iOS on the iPad was done this way... and the backup failed, and thus never worked on the install.
So my device has 98% charge, I do 2 separate device backups (just in case)... hold my breath, and manually request an iOS update.
Progress goes smoothly, the device reboots, all looks good... no apps
Ok, not to worry, the update likely just gives me a clean image... (plus my wallpaper)... I'll just restore from 1 of my backups....
    Restoring.... Rebooting....
Now its asking me to pick or setup an Apple ID... ok, fine... enter my ID/password.... re-state all my settings for wireless, location settings, iCloud (has always been NO)... and Booted....  STILL NO APPS
Repeated the restore backup process several times with each backup file... no luck... including a few clean reboots just to be sure.
ZIP, Nada, Zilch... All apps, all data, all music, all videos, all games, all game progress... you know... the efforts made over the past 6 months on several "resource management games"... all COMPLETELY GONE!!!
Now I used the feedback option in iTunes to send a similar message directly to them... but shy of a rant here I have no idea what I can do.
If all my data is lost forever... this ABSOLUTELY *****... not just because I lost it right now... but I don't ever want to buy/download another app now... if I know that there is a very, very high probability that I will again completely lose everything in the next iOS update.
So now I seem to have 2 options....
1.) Never update iOS on any device ever again due to fears it will fail and erase everything
2.) Simply shelf the device because I have no faith that I'll be able to maintain the data on it long term
Please tell me there is another option... a manual backup or restore option outside of iTunes.... or a way to look inside a backup file and make sure it really does have all the content you think it should have in it... in it.
I censored myself in this post... but for anyone working at Apple that wants to really understand my "mood" when writing this... insert 2-3 4 letter curse words before every CAPS or bold words... to get an idea of how insanely frustrating this whole process is.

1st off, thanks @turingtest2 I do appreciate your efforts it has helped explain some of this mess.
Well... as much as I'm ashamed to admit it... this does seem to be the case.
So, a "Backup" of an iOS device puts the "settings" back on your PC...
An "OS Upgrade" wipes your device of all content and updates the OS cleanly to the next level
A "Restore from Backup" effectively does next to nothing.... because in order to get all your stuff back... that you "Backed up"... you actually need to re-sync all your Apps, all your music, all your videos etc. manually once your "Backup" is complete.
You also need to figure out which apps were actually on this device because it maintains 1 list per account, not a list per device... thus manual hand picking is required.
Likewise you need to manually re-pick through your music and video collection because these settings too were not "really" backed up.
Seems completely messed up to me that the backup step doesn't save a list of the media (songs/videos) you had on the devices and automatically syncs them when performing a restore.  Ditto for apps.
I'm so glad my non-Apple devices don't follow this crazy 1/2 baked backup/restore scheme.
As a software developer myself... there's no way I'd release software this messed up....

  • I know I've heard that iPads/iPhones can't get viruses but is it possible that they can? While using my iPad, it keeps going in and out of apps. On Facebook, status and profiles keep getting clicked and it keeps zooming in and out. Can anyone help

I Have an iPad mini, iOS 8.1. When I'm on my iPad, it keeps going in and out of random apps. Going to settings is the worse. As soon as I click settings and it opens,it starts clicking different things and tries turning on and off settings! In Facebook, profiles and status get clicked. The screen zooms in and out multiple times. It reminds me of when you call the help desk for a computer or a computer at work and they gain access and move around clicking and you're doing nothing. Basically things are being clicked and I'm not doing it.....can anyone help?

At this point, I would go for reset to its factory default condition, using the iTunes program to get a clean system install. That way you'll clean everything out and just have it set up the way it would come from the factory. You'll need to do your backup (on the iTunes program too) and be sure you understand which stuff will be saved and which will not (from the links below). Also turn off any anti-virus program you may have on your desktop. Then when you reset it to the factory default condition, don't restore your backup just yet ... until you check it out without your data put back on it. Verify its operation first, to make sure that you know it's okay. Hopefully everything is okay at that point, otherwise you'll have to take it into Apple to check it out for any hardware failure.

  • 12 year old wipes out playlists on iphone and ipod. any idea how to restore them?

Dont know what he did but we can't find music that was loaded into itunes. What to do?

    "Dont know what he did"
    Why don't you ask him?

  • But when I sync it with my ipod, it says that 'the iPod has been synced with another library' and then asks if iTunes should wipe out the data in my ipod in order to sync with the library.

help! I do not want to lose everything

Sam..  I still got that message too. I went ahead and sync'd anyways.
Make sure you have it all backed up... transfer your purchases to itunes (done in itunes).. then there is not much else you can do but hit the sync button.
For me.. my thoughts were... I could probaby download any magazines again.. recreate any documents if I had to.. I have mostly business related stuff and art work I created from the drawing apps on my I pad.. purhaps not as big an investment as you.. however.. in the end.. I didn't lose anything. it all transfered for me to the new library..
not much else I can say... I found a blog where another person was having the same issue...pretty much they recommended the same steps that I followed..
here is another thread in at a different site you can look at too.. it seems like everyone is using the same process..they mention ipad in here too...

  • When are they going to bring out an update that makes ipod work properly?

Every version of iTunes I've had has caused my PC to crash. It still isn't able to convert more than 4 WMA files to Mp3 without crashing, today it decided that I can't drag and drop whole folders, I have to do individual songs, and that's after reinstalling an old version of iTunes because the latest updates for iPod and iTunes made my PC crash over and over (around 10 times before I could actually use it and uninstall the update). If I'm listening to iTunes and I open a webpage with quicktime, *Blue screen* + multiple reboots. When will Apple stop messing about and bring out an update that makes iPod/iTunes actually work?

  • Computer Crashed New Install of Itunes wants to wipe out iPad

I got an iPad for Christmas. I had iTunes already on a computer and they all played well together - I didn't store any music in my iTunes - just used it to shop and download apps for my iPad. The computer crashed and I lost iTunes. But I had a number of apps and some books on my iPad (which are all in tact and fine).
When I reinstalled iTunes it says something about this iPad doesn't belong to this iTunes installation and gives me a message that says it's going to wipe out everything on my iPad to join it to the new instance of iTunes. I just unplugged my iPad on the spot.
I've tried a number of things and can't figure out how to basically say "No, I want it the other way around. The iPad is mine and I paid for what's on it - make iTunes match my iPad." So I haven't been able to update the iPad software or anything now for months and decided after several attempts to ask for help.
The new computer is running Windows 7 in case it matters.
    Thanks!
    Jim

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPad but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPad with it.

  • Want to wipe out Nano contents prior to giving it as gift

I recently thought I had lost my Nano so I quickly replaced it only to find it a week later. When I hooked up the new one it automatically assumed the 'identity' of the missing IPod. I now want to give it to my daughter but would like to wipe out its contents, including the iPod's name before sending it to her.
Any Ideas how to do this?

    You should restore the iPod.
To restore, connect the iPod, open the iPod updater (Start>All Programs>iPod>iPod Updater), and click restore.
The process takes around five minutes and will take your iPod back to factory settings, removing all songs and settings you put in (including, I believe, the name)
It will not change/remove your songs or information on iTunes.

Is there going to be an iOS update for an iPod touch 2 generation?

Since we are all only end users like yourself, nobody here would know such information, and it's against the Terms of Use of these forums to discuss such things.
However, with that said, it's likely that the 4.2.1 update is the last the 2G iPod Touch will ever see, but again only Apple only knows.
