Safe Search extension is not compatible with Firefox 6.0
Mozilla has released their new Firefox 6.0 browser for public. Unfortunately, the AVG Safe Search extension is not compatible with this browser version yet (example screenshot). We found some glitches during our internal testing and developers are working on rectifying them. A new AVG program update will be released as soon the support is fully implemented. You may also notice some other Firefox extensions are not compatible as the Firefox development cycle is quite rapid.
'''Please rest assured you are still protected by AVG even if you have already upgraded to Firefox 6.0. The AVG Active Surf Shield component is still checking all data and will prevent you from accessing malicious content even though search results verdict icons are not available temporarily.'''

  • What modification is needed to AVG virus protection system after updating Firefox?

When I try to update Firefox on my computer I receive a message that the process will disable my AVG virus protection. I am currently using the latest version of AVG updated earlier this year.
I would appreciate further information on what modification is required to maintain my virus protection.

The extension has nothing to do with it. The "Search.avg.com" was already disabled and I did remove the AVG Toolbar, and any others mentioned Firefox not compatible with I disabled or deleted, I restarted Firefox and the same problem exists. No extension is connected to my antivirus program.

  • Can¡t install a google toolbar because it says it's incompatible

I can not install the google bar because it says it is incompatible with the version I have of Firefox: 8.01

Google decided that they will no longer produce the Google Toolbar for Firefox 5 and newer versions. It is best to move on to other alternatives than to try any "hacks" to the toolbar that may or may not perform in the future. Future versions of Google toolbar will only work with IE7-9. Google Toolbar is not available on any other browser, even Google's own browser.

  • My laptop that had my iTunes on it has exploded (in a sense). I now have a new laptop, but I'm afraid to plug my iPod in because I know it will wipe out all 300 songs. Is there a way to put my old music on my new laptop?

I now have a new laptop, but I'm afraid to plug my iPod in because I know it will wipe out all 300 songs. Is there a way to put my old music on my new laptop?
(After my old laptop blew, it won't turn on anymore). I've invested quite a bit of money into my music, and it'd be a bummer if it's all gone to waste.
    Thanks in advance!

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

It's certainly possible that Youtube has changed something...
Since most volunteers here probably aren't using this extension, I suggest contacting its author using the contact information on this page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/smartvideo-for-youtube-mytube/

  • Down loaded Mavericks, will not install on my computer because it says "this hard drive is used for time machine back up".

Down loaded mavericks, it will not install on my computer because it says" this hard drive is used for time machine back up". So I used my old computer  hard drive for back up and reloaded the program but it still says the first hard drive is being used.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Make sure you have selected your MacBook Pro's hard drive as the destination to install Mavericks. If so, you have the "Backups.backupdb" folder in the root level of your hard drive.
That's the folder used by Time Machine to store backups of your files, and the Mavericks installer understands that your internal hard disk is the Time Machine drive.
To fix this, open a Finder window, select the Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type:
Then, delete "Backups.backupdb", empty the Trash and run the Mavericks installer. Finally, install OS X Mavericks

My install of OS X Mountain Lion says it will take about 29 hours, what should I do?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Probably, OS X Mountain Lion is being downloaded now. Normally, that time decreases quickly when the download progresses, so just wait until the OS X Mountain Lion download finishes and the Mountain Lion installation will start

  • I purchased AVG virus protection; it is blocked by Firefox; now what?

I purchased AVG virus protection 2-3 months ago. Today,I get a message from Firefox indicating it has been blocked because it is incompatible. Now What? Is Firefox offering adequate protection? Or are you suggesting an alternate protection at no cost to me considering I have already paid.

See AVG for an updated version of their extensions.

  • I get a message when trying to install firefox 3.6.10 that says "your computer must be restarted to complete a previous uninstall of Firefox." I have rebooted repeatedly, but still get this message. How can I get past this?

I attempted to do the update on Firefox 3.6.9 and it said that it could not update because Firefox was still running even though it did not appear in the list of processes in the task manager. I decided to reinstall Firefox and the above message now is displayed each time I restart my computer and attempt to install Firefox 3.6.10.

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xuab2q88.default is the location of the cache folder for your default profile. If the updates folder isn't there then it looks that Firefox hasn't downloaded an update.
You can download the full version from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
Delete the Firefox program folder: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
That will remove all Firefox program files in case some are locked or protected by security software.<br />
That should allow you to install a full version of Firefox 3.6.10
Your Firefox profile data is stored elsewhere and won't be affected.

I downloaded FF4, clicked on the download and a window came up saying drag the FF icon to applications. When I do, a warning windo pops up saying "there is already a newer item called firefox. Do you want to replace it with this older one?"

Try to drag the old Firefox version to the trash to see if that allows to install the new version.
