I am attempting to re sync my iPad2 with my macbook pro iTunes and i get all the way to where it tells me to connect to iTunes...which my iTunes on my macbook sees as connected, yet my iPad still tells me to connect to iTunes...AND yet it is connected..HELP

Your iPad is going to show "Connect to iTunes" screen until you either set it up successfully or restore it. If you've already set your iPad up in the past, "Connect to iTunes" typically indicates the iPad is in Recovery Mode and you must restore it.

If these do not resolve the issue or if you are not comfortable with proceeding through these steps then take your Mac to an Apple store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.  An Apple store will perform these initial steps, diagnose the problem, and give an estimate for repairs (if needed).  If the Mac is less than one year old or is covered by AppleCare any repairs would be free.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.
If this doesn't work then you will need to erase the drive and install Snow Leopard from scratch:
    Erase and Install Snow Leopard
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. When completed quit DU and complete the Snow Leopard installation.

If there is no loading bar, it's usually a problem with a third party kext file in OS X itself.
You can press the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, then reboot holding the shift key down on a wired or built in keyboard, this will disable them and you go around and update your third party software.
Gray, Blue or White screen at boot, w/spinner/progress bar
Also take this time to backup your users files off the machine if possible.

Sometime that won't work and you need to do more

Why can't I update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1? Every time I try it gets all the way done downloading it; however when it's processing the file the page tells me "There is a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. Network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. or try again later." and next to the file it has err = -3259. I have tried this 17 times and it won't work. My iTunes is completely up to date. I have made sure that my connection is fine and I have tried turning my firewall off with no avail. This has happened to me before but usually the update will go through after 2-3 tries, never to this extent. I don't know what to do. Help!

Error -3259 is a network timeout error, usually. This article might help:

  • Hi, I have a 3 year old Macbook Pro 13" and I accidentally cracked the outer screen of my mac book, however the LCD panel is fine and works well. Please advise what to do

Hi, I have a 3 year old Macbook Pro 13" and I accidentally cracked the outer screen of my mac book, however the LCD panel is fine and works well. Please advise what to do. I live in India and I have gone to authorised Apple technicians and they infomed me that I will have to replace the LCD panel as well even though it is not cracked, is this really true or can I just change the outer shell? Also they say that they cannot do it in India... can I do it myself at home?

Since it is 3 years old find a local repair shop that can replace the glass Only. you may have to send it out to a Non Local shop for that but there are some that specialize in doiing that on Mac notebooks.
Apple will ony replace the complete screen enclosure with all normal parts included, LCD, Camera, Aluminum housing and glass as one unit. Which is very expensive. Or you could just use it as a desktop system with external monitor and buy a new notebook.

  • My brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way.

Hi my brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way. If I try to restart it or shut it down, it will go like it is starting up, but goes to a gray screen and stays there. I can see the mouse and move it, but it won't turn all the way on. What is wrong with it? It had been working fine since I got it, but today it hasn't been.

You may have to see if troubleshooting this issue can help, though the instructions on a process of elimination by symptoms are tedious in the following support article, and are suggested to be performed ahead of trying the process described in the title.
•Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
For the actual SMC reset, note subsection in above, instructions click-open on blue text:
    >Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
If the computer does not shut down, and just hangs there, try pressing the power button down for 15 seconds. Check the suggestions in the above article to see if any of them can be used, if the computer will power-up.
There is another item that sometimes can help, but the main issue you say could be resolved by the SMC reset; this other thing is involved NVRAM (non-volatile random access memory) so here's an article about it.
    •About NVRAM and PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    >Resetting NVRAM/PRAM opens in above, click-to-see instructions on how to reset.
You may have to call ahead to the nearest Apple Store for an appointment to see a Genius; or at authorized reseller, their service product specialist who should be trained to understand how to proceed, just in case there is a hardware issue behind the symptoms. When you call, be sure to have the serial number and purchase date available, when you call an official store.
Or use the 'Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support' to start the process...

    Hopefully this helps somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Macbook Pro 13 inch (2011) freezes all the time

    Hi all ,
About a week ago, I started to experience difficulties working on my MacBook Pro - the whole system started to "freeze" and glitch all over the place, e.g. finder not responding like it should be, opening folders takes ages (in some cases up to 1 minute), and even as I type this text now. In my case, rebooting did not do the trick, my Mac was still glitching like ****.
So I went on, freed 150GB of data on hard drive, deleted all Autostart Applications, even wiped PVRAM, however, the results were negative - nothing changed, whilst Disc Utility reported, that no mistakes with drive were found. I then continued to struggle, and this time wiped the hard drive, and reinstalled the system completely from disc. However, after the system had been installed (after about 3 hours of wait), I noticed that yet again my Mac is freezing up, just like before.
So here lays my question - is there anything else I can do, before taking it to local Apple Store ?

I've been having the same issues. However, I've replaced the hard drive and memory sticks and clean installed Snow Leopard twice now, but I'm still having issues with freezing. Typically it will freeze one application, followed by inability to use expose, spaces, and the other applications I have open in succession as I try to access them. So far I've reset RVRAM, run disk utility, hardware tests, and just about everything else there is with no luck.
I have a mid-2009 13" so I'm wondering if it's the processor beginning to go but I'll keep trying.
I've been in to the Genius Bar twice in the last week.  Apple will try to run their tests on every part of your system. However, nothing came back wrong the first time and they sent me home. It crashed at least half a dozen times that night. After a week more of trouble shooting, I took it back in and still nothing. I've also gotten the '?' folder upon bootup many times and the 'prohibitory' sign upon bootup as well. I'm guessing its the CPU for me but if yours is new, it should still be under warranty and Apple will fix it (if they can find a problem). I'll keep looking and working on this until I can get mine working again and if I figure it out, I'll let you know.
    Best of luck

  • Please help! I synced my iphone 5 with itunes and it deleted all the current information I had on it and restored all info from my iphone 4.  Can I recover the info I already had on my iphone 5?

I have had my Iphone 5 for a little while now and today I connected it to Itunes to download a movie to my phone.  I thought I had to restore the phone so I restored it back to my iphone 4.  I deleted all the new ringtones I just bought and I lost all photos and notes I had on my iphone 5.  Is there a way to unsync?? Is there a way to recover what I lost.  I downloaded wondershare but I can't recover from an Iphone 5 and I hadn't synced the iphone 5 with itunes until today but again i restored it back to iphone 4 data.

It can not do that all by itself.
When you plugged it in, iTunes said 'Oh goody! You got a new phone! Would you like to make it just like your old phone?'...
    You explicitly said 'Yes'.
    You can't undo that.
No backup of the current state of the new phone was made. It was wiped and the last backup of your old phone was restored to it.
Anything you had on the new phone is gone.
