I am filming a musical tomorrow so need a reply ASAP! Should i shoot in 24p or 60i?
Obviously i know the difference between progressive and interlaced, the thing is i am using my cam which is the Sony HXR-NX5U and my secondary camera, the Sony CX580V only has the option to record in 24p, 60i, or 60p. My HXR cam can do 60i, 30p, and 24p. I know for the most part you want progressive, but given that it is a musical, i'm not sure if the higher frame rate would be more appropriate or not? Any advice would be appreciated! I know it isn't technically adobe premiere pro related (even though thats the software i use, but you guys know stuff!! Help!)

That's not necessarily true. For Blu-ray or DVD delivery, 30i would be the better option over 30p or 60p, as 30i can go onto disk "as-is", without any frame rate conversions.
I think the choice on this is purely aesthetic. Do you want the look of film (24p) or the look of video (30i)?
Personally, I shoot everything at 24 fps these days.

You don't say what your version of Windows you have. Assuming XP, go to Start | Run, type DXDIAG and click OK. Click the Sound tab and run the tests to eliminate a hardware problem first of all. If you don't hear anything, check your cables first of all. Also make sure "Mute" isn't checkmarked in your sound setup. You'll find that in Windows Control Panel.
Which browser do you use? If you have Firefox 4, sign up to the HTML5 trial @ http://www.youtube.com/html5
HTML5 is the latest video standard and doesn't require Flash player. Google is in the process of converting all its files to work with the new format. It may solve you problem. If you don't have Firefox 4, you can get it from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/
IE8 doesn't support HTML5.
To clean out your temp files, go to Start | Run, type: CLEANMGR and click OK. Click OK again to start the utility. Tick all the boxes except "Compress old files" because the latter takes too long, and then click OK. You can run this utility any time you wish by the way.
The above steps will hopefully fix your problem. If not, post here again please. -
Help! I have bought music directly onto my ipod, i have also bought films and music directly onto my computer from itunes, how can i put them all onto the computer? My ipod is acting a little odd and i think its going to break at some point, so i really want to save everything i've bought. Last year i tried to sync them thinking that my music would go onto the computer, but it actually just deleted everything off my ipod, i haven't been game to try anything again.

How can I change the media info from Concert Film to Music Video in ITunes 11.01.12
I purchased a concert film a while back from the ITunes store, and in previous versions of ITunes, I had been able to change the media info from concert film to music video so I could watch it in my library (and any devices) without losing any of my library when I synced my devices (could only have either music, movies or tv shows on device - stupid I know), now with the new version, that option is greyed out, so I can't change anything, is there any way around it?
Thanks so much!When you say "remove his account", do you mean remove his Apple ID as well as all his stuff (music, movies, and whatever else is housed in iTunes)? If so, delete all his stuff (music, etc.), have him deauthorize the computer (Store > Deauthorize This Computer), and sign out of his account (Store > Sign Out) and then sign in to yours.
If all you want to do is remove his Apple ID and not fuss with his stuff, then things get more complicated, because you do not own his stuff. -

My wishlist is not working in the app store on my ipad it is woking fine in itunes store so i can add films and music but the icon "add to wish list" is not available on the app store so does anyone know how to fix this
The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.

Streaming Films and music from iTunes to apple tv stops after a while
I have two apple TVs second gen and when I have been streaming music or movies to one of them I find that the films or music play for about 10 minutes or so but then stop. After that nothing can connect to my wireless network including phones, laptop, iPad or apple tv.
I have tried streaming a movie from my iPad using file browser app but suffer the same problem. I have only been able to rectify this by resetting the apple tv. I have also had many conversations with my servic provider but the problem seems to be only when using apple tv as I can stream to my laptop or phone perfectly fine. Can anyone please help me as I have spent lots of time converting my DVD collection to mp4v only to not be able to watch a full film!!
I have been told there is an issue between apple tv and iTunes. Thanks in any advance.As an update, I can confirm I watched a film last night on my apple tv2 and it played all the way through without a hick up. I changed a couple of things so can't be sure what worked but what I did was:
1 changed the channel by broadband comes in on to improve signal (that said I dont know if the one I'm using is right).
2 reset my external WD my book live to re-sync with the router
3 turned off the option allowing my mac book pro to go to sleep and turn the internal HDD to sleep when possible in the power saving menu.
4 shouted at it and made degrading remarks about the efficiency of apple products compared to the floor less performance (although less glamourous look) of my WD tv live box which works without hick up btw. Although cannot play iTunes downloaded files...who to blame.
And it seemed to work. For now I am happier than I was but still not convinced it will serve me as well as I would like but here's to the here and now...watch this space. -

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
For full iCloud you need 10.7 But the question really is, do you need all the things it does? I mean really? Oh, you don't mention if this question is in conjunction with some device you own. To whom and how are you transferring files? -

I always had a general question about film making...
How professional Hollywood films can shoot their footages with such a smoth motion (without any jitters, strobing, blury e.t.c. artifacts) although they are shooting in 24p. 24p is not good especially when we have to deal with panning shots. Interlaced footage is much better in terms of smooth motion. Yet the films are perfect!! So the question is how they can achieve better and smoother motion although they shoot in progressive than in interlaced.

To answer your question directly, there are a couple of things that Hollywood does that you don't normally see when shooting on a smaller crew, smaller budget, etc...
For one, you need to achieve the much discussed shallow depth of field (DOF) over/above what a typical 24p video camera can do. This is a balance of lens focal distance and image sensor size. An old fashioned 35mm film camera has a "sensor" that is many times larger than an HD video sensor. The focal distance of the lenses is also generally a good big larger. Therefore, shallow DOF.
You also need to frame the shot and move the frame just like in Hollywood. Even when you're looking at a large panoramic vista shot, you'll notice that the image pans only very slightly, and many times the subject/foreground remains relatively stationary. This reduces stuttering substantially, to the point it's almost unnoticable (though you WILL notice it if you are actively looking for it). For tighter shots in motion (say, a full-body profile shot of the subject walking across a room), you're going to be panning or trucking at a speed that will cause strobing in the shot more than likely, and this only mitigated by keeping the subject spatially stationary in the frame throughout the move.
Another technique has to do with lighting, combined with the two previous techniques. If the relative luminosity of the foreground/subject is substantially greater than the background or other elements in the frame, the strobing is less noticeable on those secondary elements. Your eye becomes more focused on the foreground brighter objects - similar to the way DOF affects your perception - and so you just don't really notice that dark, strobing background so much.
The 24p strobing effect has very little to do with processing at all. However, converting between frame rates and formats CAN sometimes exacerbate all manner of video artifacts, including strobing in the shot. It's not the usual culprit though.
So hopefully you learned a new word today - TECHNIQUE - and you better understand that it's not as much Hollywood's technology that aids the quality of their product, as it is the TECHNIQUE involved in the production. That should be good news of course....technique can be learned, whereas much everything else about Hollywood's production aesthetic comes with an enormous price tag that most independent producers cannot afford. -
Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's" after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera's DSC files?
DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now?
