i am getting a flashing ad on my scrabble app offering an upgrade to increase battery life. Is that from Apple and is it safe to download and will it truly increase the battery life. I play scrabble and words with friends, i do not watch videos or anything and the battery life *****
The iPhone 3G can not be updated anymore so don't click ads like the they don't work. Also the iPhone 3G is old enough that it needs a battery change. You can go to apple or an authorized service provider.

the apple engineers have to send it to you (if your talking about the logging app to find the issue with battery drain)...
i suspect they have enough of them out there to find the issue at this point but they will contact you at the email you have associated with the Marc Mac ID to contact you if they need you to install it as well... but it doesn't let you know if you have a bad battery it logs all the phones actions to find the cause of the drain.
for what its worth if you restore the phone as "new phone" your battery drain problem will be solved... however you will loose your app data and message and call logs etc.... -
On a macbook I purchased secondhand hard drive got corrupted and I started to get the flashing folder with the question mark, I purchased a new hard drive and snow lion install DVD I installed the hard drive and tried disc but kept getting blinking folder

Power on the computer and insert the DVD immediately.
Hold down the 'C' key to boot from the Snow Leopard DVD.

After selecting the appropriate language, if necessary, select Utilities, and Disk Utility.
You'll likely need to partition and format the new drive before it's recognized.

I just got my MacBook Pro a month ago. However I am realizing I need more hard drive space due to aps and programs. I use am external but am concerned about the space. Is there a way to upgrade my hard drive from apple and keep my warranty valid?
That would depend on whether your model actually has a hard drive. If you have the new 2013 Retina model, then you have a fixed storage device built-in that cannot be modified after purchase.

I want to buy an unlocked 4s from apple and use it permanently on a foreign CDMA cell service (IUSA Cell in Mexico). I am getting conflicting information on whether this is possible. Apple website says the phones are unlocked for GSM use only.
I called apple when i bought an Ipad to help decide on a GSM vs CDMA version and was told that if I went to Mexico with a CDMA version of the Ipad (2) that i would call the carrier give them some numbers and they would activate it. When i returned I was to call Verizon and reactivate it in the US. I ultimately got the GSM version so i never tested the theory.
I am now thinking of getting the 4S to use in Mexico permanently but want to use it on a CDMA carrier because it is half the cost per month. But will this work? Thoughts?There is no such thing as an unlocked CDMA iPhone. All CDMA iPhones are carrier locked and the carriers do not allow unlocking. All legitimatly unlocked iPhones are GSM only The CDMA side is completely disabled in them.
You can only use a CDMA iPhone if the carrier you want to use offers one. -
i did some thing wrong that makes my mac just showing a black screen and amessage says you need to restart your mac .... etc and i wanted to talk to any one from apple and i couldnt get my mac serial number and i could do nothing i turned to some one who formatted the hard desk and i tried to talk to any one from apple but it seems no one care i spent 4 years to be able to buy this mac and i dont know what to do > i will never buy mac again please some one tell me what to do dvd is not working i press on options and nothing happen what showld i do ? through it ? some body tell me what to do or where to go
Just to make certain, you inserted the original installation disk and started the MBP holding down the C key? Did the Optical drive reject the disk or did it just spin? If the former, the lens in the drive may be dirty and needs to be cleaned. If the latter, you will have to take it to an Apple repair facility.

Generally buying on contract or buying outright from apple with a separate sim from a provider is little difference in cost.
Work out the total cost over 24 months for the phone+monthly tarrif and you will see.
Also the contracts where the phone is cheapest but have a higher monthly cost tend to be the ones that cost you move over a 24 month period.
For example;
Using O2 UK as an example (other carriers are very similar). For the iPhone 5 64GB;
From Apple £699, plus O2 On & On £20 per month is £1179
From O2, Phone £249, per month, £41. Total over 24 months is £1,233
From O2, Phone £169, per month, £46. Total over 24 months is £1,273
From O2, Phone £69.99, per month, £63. Total over 24 months is £1,581 <Cheapest phone, most expensive
*These all use the same tarrif of unlimited talk,texts and 1GB data. The only difference is how much you want to pay upfront for the phone*
Also worth noting is buying the phone from apple and the O2 tarrif is only a 12 month tarrif so you're not locked in for 24 months.
As you can see, the cheaper the phone, the more the overall amount you pay. -

Quicken Essentials will work with Lion. Most people that have used Quicken for a while (i.e. Quicken 2007) have found that Quicken Essentials isn't much better than a basic spreadsheet. It is a significant step down from previous versions and does not offer many of the features previously offered. Right now, it seems like the two most common options are iBank and MoneyDance.
Frankly... this is a major opportunity for these companies. The largest commercial distributor of this type of product has been Intuit (Quicken). That makes it hard for any other company to get any of that market as so many people were already using Quicken and may have had years of data stored in it. Now, with Quicken effectively out of the picture, it's a great chance for another company. Just imagine if iPhones were suddenly off the market. That would give other manufacturers a tremendous opportunity since they wouldn't have to fight an up hill battle against a market giant. -
Can't get Adobe Flash Player to upgrade on Safari, Firefox, etc.
I've went through the troubleshooting numerous times and still cannot get it to upgrade. I've uninstalled it, restarted my computer and reinstalled it, but the version is still not up to date. The version is 9.0.28.0 , if that matters.
edit: I tried uninstalling and apparently it didn't uninstall. I went to this page (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/) and it still showed the box on the right telling me my current version. Apparently it's not supposed to show if you don't have Adobe Flash Player. I made sure no applications were running (no IM's, browsers, games, anything) and it didn't uninstall for some reason.Try to use the uninstaller from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
If FP is still not uninstalled, please list the files you have in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash

my ipod was upgrading and my computer turned off in the middle. its stuck on a scrren showing an apple and a loading bar beneath it. i cant get it to turn off and the bar that usually shows up in itunes isnt there. how do i get it off this screen so i can use it?

Do I have to pay the upgrade fee if I buy my phone from apple?
I can't find anywhere where the upgrade fee is explained fully. I know if I buy my phone from apple, it is a "verizon" phone -- will they charge me the upgrade fee, will verizon charge it when I activate the phone, or does it not apply if I buy it via the apple store?
If you are buying the phone at full price (or Verizon EDGE), there won't be any upgrade fee. If you are getting a subsidized phone (2-year contract) there will be an upgrade fee.

I just got my macbook air back from apple because my hard drive failed,

This is going to affect a large number of disabled UK students as patches and upgrades for the specialist software are not due for release until late 2011/early 2012.
Only options they have is to revert to Snow leopard, defficult as Apple have even recall resellers stock and upgraded it to Lion.

I seem to have ruffled a couple of feathers. I do not remember saying I was responsible for computer systems/networks/school systems. Or accusing Apple of incompetence.
All I did was state that Apple seems to have forgotten or is not aware about the potential impact of Lion on disabled students in the UK and both apple and the assistive software suppliers failed to act together over this omission.
During our research prior to the launch of Lion we as a specialist group had identified 22 of the 40 applications used in assistive software that had 'Problems' this was communicated to all interested parties. Still waiting for the 'FIX'
FYI ALL parties have had similar notices on their BB's NOT just Apple.

My husband has an iPad and I just got one for me. We both have the same e-mail address. The message I get when I try to initiate setup is that the Apple ID is already in use. Any ideas on how to complete the setup of the new iPad since we both share the e-mail account?
If you selected open a new Apple ID account, go back a step and enter use existing Apple ID.
You will have to set up a separate iCloud account or your iPads will mirror each other. -
What about upgrading apps on your IPhone? I can't do that from where I live w/o connecting directly to my laptop. With Apple's new Itunes page, I don't see how I can navigate successfully now to acheive the same result as before. Hmmm. I would appreciate some quick guidance. Thanks.
With iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar that used to show on previous versions of iTunes via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC. You can then select the Apps part of your iTunes library on that sidebar and on the right-hand side of iTunes click the Check For Updates button at the bottom to see if any of your apps have updates available. Then connect your phone and select it on the sidebar, and on the Apps tab on the right-hand side click the Sync button at the bottom of it to copy the updates over
