I am getting a new computer: what do I need to backup onto an external hard drive so that I will be able to sync the ipad with the new computer without losing anything?
I am getting a new computer and need to be sure to back things up from the old computer in order to put everything onto the new computer. I know that itunes music I have uploaded from cd's will not sync from ipad to new computer, but what else should I be aware I will lose when I move to sync with the new computer?
IMHO the best solution is to clone your disk. That will give you a copy of everything. You can do that with either SuperDuper or CCC.

I bought a new external hard drive for backups, but time machine won't do a full back up.
I think it is remembering backing up onto previous external hard drives, which I don't own anymore. How do I do a new full backup?
When I bought the new (used) iMac, I also bought an external hard drive for backups. It worked fine, but my husband stole it.
Then I bought a new external hard drive (Seagate) and it worked fine for three weeks, then died.
So I just got a new external hard drive, which was put together from an internal hard drive and a hard drive enclosure.
Time machine did the first backup today, and it should have taken 9 hours like it did on the previous first time full back up. Instead, it took 30 minutes. That can't be right. I want to start over and do a full backup to make sure everything gets onto my new external hard drive, but I can't figure out how to do that. Can you save your itunes and songs onto an external hard drive so that incase your computer crashes you will still have all your music?
The procedures below are for "moving" your library but as long as you don't delete it from your internal drive you are basically backing up.

Simple answer: Copy your whole iTunes folder to the external drive. For subsequent backups you might want to learn about cloning and using a tool that only does incremental backups of recently changed items rather than copying all your files each time. -
What do I need to create a wireless external hard drive?
Here's the situation. Hubs and I have just combined households. Between us we have a Macbook Pro laptop (10.5.8. mine), an HP laptop (his), a westell router from century link and 3 external firewire/usb hardrves, one of which serves as my time capsule. We also have a wireless printer.
One of the external harddrives has my tv shows and movies, downloaded from itunes, stored temporarily since my mac is out of space. We'd like to be able to access our external harddrives wirelessly, so that I can move my itunes library and media files to one and access them wirelessly, have my time capsule hooked up permenantly, and so he could access his moies/shows/music on his external hard drive wirelessly.
What do I need to create a wireless hookup for my external hard drives that is compatible with macs and pcs, and is relatively easy to do (neither of us are particularly tech savvy, but with the right instructions we can do okay)That router you have is really not a router. It is a DSL modem that does have rudimentary router with one port.
What you really need to do is set the westel into Bridged Ethernet mode, that disables the router function in it, and get yourself a good router that has a USB port to connect a USB drive or printer to it. there may be models that have more then one USB port so you could connect multiple devices to the router.
It isn't hard making these changes but i won't go into it here. For that go to DSLReports.com and look up your ISP and then the FAQs for your ISP. More then likely someone has posted detailed instruction on how to do what I described above for your model Westel modem and your ISP.

It depends on the app you want to use to make backups.
If you are going to use Time Machine (recommended because it's the easiest), you just have to set it up and it will back up the whole OS X partition on the external drive, so don't worry. Another option are the cloning apps, like Carbon Copy Cloner. These apps also clone the whole hard drive, but you can manually select the things you want to back up. The advantage of the clones is that you can start up your computer from them -

my hard drive crashed on my MacBook Pro crashed and I need to get my CS5 up and running on the new hard drive. I copied what I could onto an external hard drive but when I drag and drop I get directions to uninstall but the uninstall folder I have does says it is an alias that is no longer present. I get error 6. I would like to get my software up and running on the laptop again please
If you subscribed to iTunes match the songs are kept in icloud. If you didn't but you did save the actual iTunes library folder which should include the music, video, etc. you should be able to just drag this file back to your machine in the same place and when you open iTunes it will give you a chance to identify the iTunes library folder.
You can test this to find out if you saved the media files or not and don't need to attach your nano to do it.
You are correct that once you connect the nano it will clear the existing files from it and sync it with the new iTunes library.
If you don't have the media files i'm not sure if/how to get them back on a windows ipod. I have everything backed up regularly because of the horror stories I have seen & heard. -

1. De-authorize one of your five computers and then authorize your new Pro.
Or, if you don't have five computers and got rid of them before you de-authorized them...
In iTunes, click your iTunes user ID in the upper right corner of the iTunes Store. Select Account and then press the "De-Authorize All" button. All of your computers will be de-authorized. Then it is just a matter of re-authorizing the computers that you want to use with iTunes. -
I have always synced my iPhone with my PC, what will happen if I sync my iPhone with my new Macbook Air?

Transferring photos from your computer has nothing to do with your iTunes account/Apple ID.
Photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring photos from another, all photos on the iPad that were transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPad first - even if the photos were transferred from the old or different computer to the new computer being used for syncing.
When transferring photos from your computer, what is named the iPod Photo Cache is created on your computer for the photos that are transferred and why you see new photos being transferres are optimized before the actual transfer process. The iPod Photo Cache for these photos on the computer the photos were transferred from is not available on your new computer.
Since all photos on your iPad that were transferred from the old or different computer should remain on that computer, transfer the photos from that computer to your new computer. These photos on your iPad will be erased with the first sync but will be re-transferred along with a new iPod Photo Cache for these photos being created on your new computer. -
I just upgraded to iTunes 12 and had all sorts of problems. After several restores I seem to be able to sync my iPad with iTunes BUT I can't delete anything off my iPad from iTunes. Any ideas on what to do?

I got a new computer and backed up my iTunes library to an external hard drive. The external hard drive is not allowing me to access the drive. I no longer have access to the old computer. Is there a way to transfer the songs from my iPod touch to my new computer?
That's a bummer, didn't realize the exHD files were corrupt, esp if you have tried from another PC and not just this new computer.
