I am getting an error which says something tried to trick firefox into updating

I've been getting this error for some time I have switched to manual update from time to time I download Firefox Nightly and install it again. I live in Iran since my government is known for invading its citizen privacy I was worried if it is something related to them or other sources trying to modify my firefox or it is a known issue. what should I do? continue my manual download install routine or there is a fix?

Which Firefox version do you use?
Such an error has been mentioned in the past as being caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder.
*(32 bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
*(64 bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
You can try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 16.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
You can also try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

I'm getting an error message from Firefox that says, "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help." Do you know what is going on here--what this problem could be? (I do have the latest Firefox version already installed. I have previously received Firefox error messages that say "Firefox Update Failed." However, I already had the latest Firefox version installed when I received those error messages.)

Apparently this occurs when Firefox has problems with security certificates. There have been a few questions about this. I will try to get advice about this.
Apparently you are using Internet Explorer 9 (From your system details). Do you have Google Updater plugin installed on Firefox ?
(That been implicated in this sort of problem by one poster, and some users with the problem do have Google Updater, but some do not)

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • TS3230 I keep getting the error message saying something about sonic foundry plug-in... I can't seem to find this on my computer --- has anyone gotten this message?

I am having problems with Safari --- running slowly at times but shutting down unexpectedly at other times and displaying the error message saying something about the sonic foundry plug-in.  I cannot find this anywhere on my computer.  It seems to happen when I visit the Cooking Light website.  Strange.
    Anyone have any ideas?
Also, when the box pops up asking if I would like to submit a report to Apple, and I choose submit, it tells me that I cannot submit the report.  Frustrating.
    Help!

You're infected with the Flashback malware. It takes advantage of a defect in the Java web plugin to install itself when you visit a contaminated website. No fix is available from Apple for your obsolete version of the Mac OS. You may be able to clear the infection by running the removal tool developed by a third party:
    Flashback Removal Tool - F-Secure
Back up all data before you take this step. If it works, change every Internet password you have, starting with banking passwords, and check all financial accounts for unauthorized transactions.
Disable Java (not JavaScript) in the settings of all your web browsers, and leave it disabled as long as you're running Mac OS 10.5.x. To disable Java in Safari, select Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Security and uncheck the box labeled Enable Java.

  • I think I have the latest Firefox version, but keep getting messages about updating it. 1 says something is preventing Firefox from updating securely; another says something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update. What's going on?

The 1st message goes on to say, "Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox from http://www.firefox.com." Assuming 4.0.1 is the latest version, it seems this is a bogus message and I haven't clicked on the link.
The 2nd message goes on to say something like, "if this continues [the attempt to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update], contact your network administrator."
I started getting the messages on all 4 of our PC's (2 desktops running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 1 running XP 32-bit, & a laptop running Vista Home Basic 64-bit) after updating to Firefox 4.0 on them. I manually updated to 4.0.1 on all thinking that would stop the messages, but it hasn't.
I loaded & ran free versions of McAfee Stinger, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Super Anti-Spyware programs on all our PCs; each program found & repaired some infected files on each computer, but the messages continue on all.
Thanks for any help you can give.

  • I got a pop up telling something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting a false update says to contact you?

It has happened more then a few times Its pops up and says Something is trying to trick FF into accepting a fake update.

This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.
Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder to remove the file(s) that cause the problem.

  • What does it mean when I get a message which says: To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier?

This error message comes up when I am trying to get a log in box to come up on a particular secure website. Sometimes the log in box does come up, but when I go to log in nothing happens.

You get an alert about resending POST data if you go back to a page or refresh a page that was previously requested from the server by submitting form data via a (hidden) POST form.<br />
Firefox can only make sure to get the same page by resending that POST form.<br />
Firefox doesn't know what that form data means, so Firefox asks for confirmation before resending that form data as such an action can cause you to repeat an action and buy another item or post a message another time.<br />
A way to prevent that pop-up is not to use the Back button, but to open links from a page that was requested from a server by sending a POST form in a new tab (window) with a middle-click or a Ctrl + left-click.<br />
Then you can close that tab or window to go back.<br />
