I am getting Insufficent disc space for burning icon

I HAVE LOTS OF STORAGE SPACE ON COMUTER ABOUT 200 FREE GB
BUT ITS IS TELLING ME INSUFFICIENT DISC SPACE AVAILABLE FOR BURNING...WHY?

Charles King
I was looking for your reply in your other thread that I just answered.
how to make video go backwards
But, I just saw this new thread.
Insufficient Disc Space Available For Burning.....
That message typically points to not enough space for the burn to temporary encoding files.
When you go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Discs, what is
a. the path shown to the place where these encoding files are going to be stored
and
b. to the right of the path information there should be an estimate of the free hard drive space at that location - what is it?
In the burn dialog Quality area, what does it show for Space Required and Bitrate.
Do you have any other place on the computer that has more than 200 GB? We may have to change the save location
for the Encoded Files to be generated or free up more space at the location to where those encoding files are currently directed.
Let us see where the details lead us.
All of the above information should lead us to answer for the why.
Thanks.

  • Insufficient Disc Space for Burning

My setup: Premiere Elements 12 running on an Apple iMac running OSx Yosemite. Samsung external blu-ray writer.
I have a recording of a play from my local amateur dramatic society. I have successfully burnt to a DVD-RW complete with menus and photograph gallery. When I insert a DVD-R it tells me there is insufficient disc space. The project is 4.38 Gb and Disc Utility tells me that the DVD has 4.7 Gb free. My hard disc has 826.96 Gb free. I have successfully written to other discs from this spindle in the past. I've tried two discs with the same result.
I tried burning to a folder then burning a disc using Toast, but the disc auto-played instead of displaying the menu (despite auto-play being unticked).
    Advice would be welcome.

Thanks for the reply and additional information.
Please consider disc capacity, file size, and bitrate....
If your Premiere Elements burn dialog Quality area was showing 4.38 GB with "Fit Content to Available Space" enabled, what was it showing for Bitrate.
Unless the program had to lower the bitrate to 1.69 Mbps or where it could not lower the bitrate any further to make the fit, you should have been able to get a burn to disc in Premiere Elements. The quality would have been worse case at the extremely lowered bitrate, but a burn to nonetheless.
If you want to pursue this, we could compare the Space Required and Bitrate with and without "Fit Content to Available Space" to get at
what triggered the Insufficient Disc Space message. We could also look at the Scratch Disk "Disc Encoding" to find to where it is
directed and how much free space is at that location.
If you have the time and want to follow up on this, please let us know.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements 9 - blu-ray insufficient disc space for burning

    Hi
I have just upgraded to PE 9 with the hope that it would have less problems than 7 - it appears I am wrong
Having got over the "chapter overflow" problem I am now faced with a new one that i cannot find a thread for.
I have a video that is 2 hours 45 min long.
I want to burn it to blu-ray.
I select "fit contents to available space" the program reduces the size to 23.3Gb BUT does not remove the warning so i cannot do the burn.
I have successfully burnt 2 Blu-ray discs where the content did not need to be made smaller.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Michael

The file is to big for the disc, but that is why the fit content to available space tick box is there.
It does show that the size will be reduced and what the new reduced bit rate will be.
The problem is that the error message does not remove it's self so the burn button does not activate.

  • HT1583 I'm trying to burn a Magic DVD in iDVD and I get a message stating "not enough free disc space for encoding the remaining assets. How do I resolve this?

I'm trying to burn a Magic DVD in iDVD and I keep getting a message stating that there is not enough free disc space for encoding the remaining assets. How do I resolve this?

It means your hard drive is too full to accomodate the project and its many swap files etc.
You need to move some files (not applications) to your external hard drive, and keep at least 25-30GB free.

I get this message when I try to print my DVD   "not enough free disc space for encoding remaining assets"
Does this mean I have too much videos and material on the computer.  I have tried to delete several but it does not seem to be making any difference.  Please help/explain...  Thank you!

IDVD is limited by the duration of your movie and nothing else.
A single layer DVD is good for about two hours.  A dual layer DVD is good for about three hours and 45 minutes.
You do need a certain amount of free space to create DVDs.
To burn your iDVD project to a single-layer DVD disc, you should have 8 to 10 gigabytes (GB) of free disk space on your hard disk, depending on the size of your project. For double-layer discs, you need 15 to 20 GB of free disk space. To check how much disk space you have, Control-click the hard disk icon on your desktop and choose Get Info. Then look next to Available to see how much space you have.
The encoded DVD files remain on your hard disk inside your project’s folder. If you do not want to save the encoded files after you burn your project to a disc, you can delete them.

  • Just recently I'm showing that I've lost a very large amount of disc space for no apparent reason?

I have 750GB MacBook Pro and up until the other day I showed 250GB used and 500GB unused.  I discovered this because the past two days my computer would just freeze and I couldn't do anything.  So I ran the Disc Utility and it found some errors and fixed them.  So I'm wondering if the 400GB of lost disc space now has something to do with the computer locking up? I've searched all the folders and added up their size and still come back to 250GB that I can see.  So I'm assuming there's something hidden somewhere that's eating up over half my hard disc space?  HELP!

    BNK12 wrote:
So somewhere I have between 450 - 500 GB's taking up my disk space?
Yes, exactly. The total used, per the sidebar, is 735 GB, but the total at the top is 269 GB, leaving 466 GB unaccounted-for.  As mentioned in the Other large files section of the Where did my Disk Space go? article, the similar free apps don't show things the logged-on user isn't permitted to see. Unfortunately, the version of WhatSize on the AppStore doesn't, either. A few of those are detailed in the green box.
First, have you Verified your internal HD, per the link in the yellow box at the top of the article?  If not, do so.  If that doesn't say your disk "appears to be ok," follow the instructions there to start from your Recovery HD and Repair it, then have WhatSize re-measure your drive.
If that doesn't help, do you have more than one user account (besides the 230 GB bkundinger)?  If so, log on to the other(s), use WhatSize to see how large those home folders are, and add them to the 269 GB total.
If not, or if that doesn't explain the difference, you need to be able to see everything.  Probably the best way to do that is with the version of WhatSize that you get directly from the vendor -- just click the link in the green box or go to http://whatsizemac.com.  That version has the "As Admin" icon in the toolbar, per the sample in the green box.  Click it and enter your Admin password, then have it re-measure your internal HD.
That will take a few moments, of course, but the resulting display should show everything, including the missing 466 GBs.  As noted, don't delete anything you don't understand; if in doubt, post the new screenshot here.

  • How to get available disk space for a disk in the system ?

    hi all,
I need to figure out the available disk space for a particular disk before I can write my file to a directory in the disk. I do this to avoid unsufficient disk space problem in my program. May I know how can I do this in Java ? I look at the API function for java.io.File class but there isn't any function to check disk space. I would appreciate any help from fellow Java developers. Thanks a million.
    regards,
    tuck meng

You cannot do this in purely platform independent way.
You can use System.exec to run native OS utilities like df and parse the output, but then you have to knwo which platform your program is running on, or build in some automatic detection of OS and have corresponding native calls for each likely one.
BTW. even if you get a number of free bytes on disk that's larger than the size of the file you want to write this is no guarantee that there will be enough diskspace for your file, because another process might write to the disk in the meantime. So you will have to do proper error handling and recover gracefully from the disk full sitution no matter what.

  • Why am I losing disc space for no apparent reason?

The past few days, I have been losing disc space and haven't been adding anything.
I was at about 10 GB free, and suddenly my computer was telling me that I had 0. I freed up 2 more GB, and a few minutes later it was down to 371 MB, then 100 MB, then 0 (within the span about 15 minutes). I repeated this process, and about the same thing happened.
I've deleted about half of my iPhoto library, a large portion of iTunes, deleted Safari caches, and most documents. I even did scans with Grand Perspective, and it only shows about 40 GB taken up. I should have at least 34 GB open, and yet somehow that is not the case.
Even in the past hour, I deleted 500 songs, and my space has gone down. HELP ME!

First thing I suggest is be sure you emptied your trash after all the deleting.
I use WhatSize to check space on my drive.
Disk Inventory X is also good for this.
The X Lab: Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk has some good information on what to look for when cleaning your drive.

  • How to get photos in order for burning to disc !

Hi, I am new to LR 3 , after downloading photo's from 3 CF cards from a wedding then editing I put chosen
best shots into a smart collection and all seemed in order numbers wise etc, when I burnt to a disc they are now not in order of the days event, how can I make sure they are of the following : -
1  - All the same size photo's ready to be printed or put in an album.
2 - How can I make sure the order in which I see them in the library smart collection is burnt in the
same order onto a disc, as I have burnt from library and they are all out of order of the wedding event
when looked at on the disc !!
Any help would be appreciated ,thanks westyboy1

You indicated that the images "seemed" to be in the right order.  It might be a good idea to rename the images on export using a custom name/sequence.  If you have done that and the images are still not in order, it's possible that your operating system browsing window is using a different sort order.  I sometimes change windows explorer to sort by file type, and then files are sometimes in what seems be a strange order.

  • HT204053 I have multiple apple devices, 2x phones ipad etc, but all are through the same email and I only get the storage space for one device, what should I do?

I have multiple devices all under the same id and email but I don't get multiple icloud storage space and it's running out!
Can anyone help as I've just bought an iphone for my daughter and would like to link it as well.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

One icloud account gets a 5 GB of storage, regardless of the number of devices connecting to it.  But you're in luck, you can buy more storage for the account if you are running low.
As for your daughter, be sure to get her own icloud account, otherwise she'll end up getting all your email, contacts, etc.  And if she deletes any of this data, it will be deleted on your devices as well.  Note:  you can all keep using the same ID for the itunes store for sharing purchased items.

  • Archive and Install problem (not enough disc space for another install)

Alright, so I've got the blue screen. I tried getting rid of the APE stuff, and they were all successfully deleted, but it's still the blue screen. So I'm going to do the Archive/Install thing. My problem is that if I try to do an Archive and Install, I won't have enough space to do it. I have around 3.5 GB right now, but that's probably not enough to do another install.
My only option I think is to go into single-user mode and manually remove my larger files. I have a back-up drive, and I tried removing all the stuff that's on the back-up drive from my computer, but all of them are listed as read-only.
So is there a way to override permissions in the UNIX thing? Or is there another option for me with?
Also I don't know if this matters, but I'm installing it from an external DVD drive and I'm doing it from PANTHER and not Tiger.

  • Allocation of disc space for CS5 on custom 6-core PC

I have upgraded to a 6 core PC with Windows 7 Professional as follows:
    ASUS P9X78 Deluxe Motherboard
    Intel i7 3930 CPU
    DDR3 1600 32G RAM
    1 Samsung MZ-7PD256BW R 256G SSD (C drive)
    2 1TB 7200rpm SATA HD RAID (E drive)
    2 1TB 7200rpm SATA HD RAID (F drive)
    Nvidia GTX660 2G Video
The D drive was allocated to the LG Super Multi DISC drive but, apart from the C drive, the others can be realloacted.
I understand that that read/writes to SSD drives should be minimized if possible for a longer life span.  My Documents can be reallocated from the SSD drive to one of the other 2 drives.  I have started a project to find that the Scratch Discs are subject to allocation to My Documents under what appears to be a Private restriction.
I do not have experience on the better allocation of resources for speed on the 6-core PC as shown.  I have spent a number of years allowing the default allocation of files while attempting to distribute concurrent reads and writes to 4 1TB drives on a 4-core PC without much experience.
Perhaps some allocations are fixed by Premier Pro.  How should I allocate the following on the E and F drives?
    - Source files for Video and Audio
    - Project Files
    - Scratch Discs
    - Preview Files
    - Encoded Files
    - Rendered Files

I prefer to do that outside of Premiere and use http://www.scootersoftware.com/moreinfo.php?zz=moreinfo_compare
It allows me to compare the contents of different directories on different drives or computers, even over a network or VPN and copy left to right, right to left or synchronize left and right. For me that is far easier.
Example, I have CS5.5 installed with various plug-ins. Now I install CS6 and want to continue using the same plug-ins. I then use BeyondCompare to find the missing plug-ins in the fresh CS6 installation and copy from CS5.5 to CS6 those missing plug-ins. That makes all those plug-ins available in CS6 as well, instead of reinstalling them again for CS6 only and entering my license keys for all of them. Much faster and easier.
Another example. I have a lot of audio tracks on my old system and I don't want them on the server, but do want them on my new system, so I use synchronize to keep them in sync. We are talking about more than 100 GB of material. In just a few clicks both machines are synchronized and it has the side effect of being a nice backup.  Now I add a new album to machine A and synchronize with machine B, job done. Material is available on both machines.

  • I've run out of disc space for iPhoto

    What are my options?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You don't specify if you are referring to the iPhoto app or to the iPhoto library. If you are referring to the iPhoto library, you can delete files you don't need, or you can move the iPhoto library to an external drive, so you will be able to use iPhoto without space problems.
If you are referring to the iPhoto app, you have to delete files that you don't need from the hard drive, or move files that you need to an external drive in order to make free space
